The party heads to the area marked as "R5" on the map. (The leftmost R5.) The ivy and grass have been cleared along the edge where the foundation meets the ground, and along this edge a series of sinuous runes has been etched and then smeared with blood. The runes look like they might go around the entire building's foundation.
Knowledge Arcana or Religion to know more about the runes.

"So do your see anything out of the ordinary Blackheath" Gravleon ask as they walk around the field
GM Engleaktig |
Blackheath shares what he has discovered with the rest of the party.
You continue your clockwise circumnavigation of the prison building. You come across area R5 on the map: A large, rectangular block of stone rests on this weather-beaten stone balcony, while ruined wooden benches line the eastern wall under a row of tiny, barred windows above. A stout wooden door sits in the wall near the northern end of the balcony.
From your chat with Deputy Riff, you know: Even before the fire, the west balcony had a reputation of being haunted.
Blackheath |
"Vandel, would you like to check the door? We will cover you."
Blackheath scans the area...

oh and were is the map?

oh and were is the map?
Harrowstone Grounds. I drew red arrows to indicate the path of your walk around the grounds. I've also added a link that will show atop each page of the play by post.
The door in the wall is quite stout and locked. Looks like the door would lead to the second floor of the prison. There are stairs that lead up to the balcony.
Blackheath |
Blackheath draws the shortbow and slowly ascends the stairs...
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
Gravleon draws his sword and shield and also ascends the stairs

Sounds good to me.

well there goes our heads lol dont know if you wat our rolls but here you go just in case perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Blackheath follows Gravleon.
GM Engleaktig |
OK. We're in initiative.
Enemy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Blackheath: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Dolgarth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Monty: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Sangre: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Vandel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
When he reaches the top of the stairs, Vandel sees a ghostly set of skeletal arms wielding a rusty scythe. Knowledge Arcana to know more about the enemy once you are able to see it. Right now, only Vandel can see it.
Monty is up first! Unfortunately, he stuck behind on the stairs. Though he could cast a spell, if he wished, he cannot see the enemy.
Vandel is up next!
Vandel Kur'resh |
"Do you guys have any idea how to deal with this thang?!" The human hopefully asks. Vandel attempts to roll behind the creature to let his casters to get a better idea of it, and stabs at the scythe.
Acrobatics to move behind it:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Spear stab:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

"It's a wayward soul that needs to be put to rest, mind your kneck lads"
Blackheath |
Blackheath casts Cure Light Wounds and advances to try and touch the ghostly scythe...
Positive energy touch attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
If that works I have one of those left to cast. Gravleon, we may want to switch to positive energy attacks if it has some kind of resistance to normal attacks. Vandel, maybe you want to use one of the magic arrows or holy water flasks. If we survive this fight, we can head back to the village and recharge.
Blackheath |
knowledge: arcana: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
GM Engleaktig |
Blackheath recognizes two things: (1) Yes, this scythe is "haunted" by spirits. (2) The way that the spirits have manifested within the scythe it is an animated object, not undead. Therefore, positive energy will not harm it.
You may retcon your previous action, if you wish, Blackheath. The party just discovered, thanks to Gravleon's strike and your knowledge check, that this construct has a hardness of 10.
Blackheath |
Okay, we are dead meat then, lol. Hardness of 10, I don't think I can scratch that. I'll try this move, and if no one else has a good suggestion, I think we need to run lol.
Blackheath attempts to grapple the scythe.
If I can keep the previous attack roll, my CMB result would also be a 19.
Blackheath |
We've got two choices that I can see, as I don't think we can kill it with our weapons even if it is immobilized...
Smart: I hold it while you run and then I follow.
Crazy: We get out a lot of rope and tie it to me while leaving my legs free, and then we drag it miles back to town and bash it to pieces on the blacksmith's anvil while Father Grimburrow blesses the hammer.
I'm hoping someone has a better set of ideas.
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
wow nice that's awesome lol i would not have thought of that...nice ^_^ ok well, i dont have any rope so that's going to be a lot of grapple checks...can i help you keep a hand on it lol, well i have burning hands so if the shaft is wood i can touch it and it will catch on fire so theirs that

If we don't have rope it won't work, and it doesn't look like any of the three of us does have any (though Monty seems to have 50' of silk rope) so that might be out. I think burning hands comes out in a cone area so it would hit me as well. Even if we held it and pounded it at a 10 hardness we could do it maybe a point or two with a max damage attack, right? Unless we can think of something quick, we might need to retreat and come back with different gear -- and this is the first monster lol!
If we still have Monty's gear with us, then maybe we could try it -- but I'm not 100% sure it would work anyway.
GM Engleaktig |
Well, it's your second combat in Harrowstone. The rats were the first. ;-P
Eventually, the construct would "roll" high enough to break free--especially if you tied it and left it. However, if you wanted to deal with it now, here's what I'm willing to do:
Everyone in the party grabs a hold of the scythe (effectively, several Aid Another actions). You then use Monty's rope to tie it up as you haul it down the stairs and off the Harrowstone grounds. All the while, at least two party members are wrasslin' it--to maintain the Aid Another on the rope/tie up.
When you near the gate, you yell for Deputy Riff. He runs to Grimburrow who can then deal with the scythe--and, solely for RP flavor, the old Pharasmin will admonish you for being unable to deal with one thing on your own. Though, he will remove the unquiet spirit for you.
What do you guys think?
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
wow Hardness 10 i think none of us can damage it at all now that i think about it, since we talked a big game we can't ask Grimborrow to help us. I don't think this thing has a strength bonus then it could not brake the rope if we tie it to something no?
Yah since the dc to brake the hemp rope is a 23, I don't think that it can ^_^
Blackheath |
I'll hold it while you all retreat. Then I will run too. We can go back to town and outfit ourselves or wait until we are tougher to tackle it. Luckily it seems to be in an avoidable spot.
Tying it to a thing may be tough, because it can also cut itself free.
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
hold on it can move like its living i thought it was just possessed as is it was moving but if it can bend like a snake then..yah will need to take off lol, or i still have 5 more uses if fire bolt...but i would have to deal at lest 4 damage each time ti kill it...so ya we should take off and come back to this, man this makes me fell sad...
Gravleon takes a look at the currant situation at hand and shakes his head "this demon is took much for us to handle as we are now you to run ill keep it distracted and follow after" he said bravely ^_^ and i die...
edit
and since the others are having a hard time posting i feel the choice is left to us...@GM if thats ok?
Blackheath |
I think I have a better Acrobatics to avoid AoOs so you guys take off and I'll follow. I promise to avoid dying. Lol-
"No, please, after you!"
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
Gravleon looks at the resolve in Blackheath's face and nods "ill see you at the bottom of the stairs" and with that he turns and runs quickly down the stairs once there Gravleon looks at the top hoping to see Blackheath coming up fast
Blackheath |
When his friends are clear, Blackheath releases the killer scythe and tries to make a run for it.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
Gravleon looks and sees that the haunted weapon dose not follow them
"Well...that was embarrassing, lets continue searching the grounds before we try to explore the inside. I won't let this cult have their way, by dawns light they will face judgement."
Gravleon shakes his head"Come on then, i don't see that cursed weapon following us so we should press on"
going to R9
PFS CORE-G Sangre |
"well the way I see it we should at least look within and if it's more of what we got on the balcony well go and recheck our gear...so we don't have another travesti like that" so gravleon turns and leads to group to the entrance of the prison

After he hears Gravleon's suggestion, Blackheath nods and follows.
