Bentuk nods. Unfamiliar with the city, he is content to let the others lead the way to the Horned Helm.

![]() |

Thallin walks over to the thug leader. We intend to let you and your men go, assuming we can come to an understanding. After pausing for effect, Thallin continues. If you or your men attack us, or any other pathfinders, there will be no quarter. If you try and warn Runa or Hjort, then we will have no choice but to end your days.
Thallin looks around, making sure that he has the support of the rest of the group, then looks back at the thug leader. Do we have an understanding?

![]() |

Tal nods, giving the thugs a stern bird-like look. Of course, birds' eyes aren't very expression-ful, so the thugs just see that he's staring at them.
Hahaha! That is awesome
Kyrin glares at the men, his halo lighting up as he speaks.

None of the men are evil, that you are able to detect.
"Uh...understood... sir! We will go on our way, if you will allow us."
The Horned Helm is a low-slung, two-story building of questionable construction leaning heavily over a shoddy corner of mud and brick in the dankest, filthiest parcel of land in all of the market. It has no windows, as they’ve all been broken and boarded over; its only door looks like a simple plank of wood covered in scratches, burns, and probably blood stains. Noise, heat, and smoke pour out from under that door and rise to a staggering crescendo of laughter as the door swings lazily open and two bodies are unceremoniously dumped into the rutted, frozen mud streets outside. A battered sign hangs above the door, swinging on two chains, one shorter than the other. It bears the faded image of an Ulfen helm with two ridiculously large horns.

Thallin turns to the group before approaching the tavern. Do we want to just pop in, or do we want to peek in first.
Thallin keeps an eye on the tavern during the conversation.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
If we barge in, we could catch them off guard. If we peek in, we could wait till they try to leave, then hit them out here. Thallin takes a hard look at the group. I don’t think blending in and waiting for them will work.

![]() |

"Peeking in first." Bentuk would rather avoid getting wrapped up in a tavern brawl.

![]() |

It looks like all the windows are boarded up, so looking through a window isn’t going to be possible. This means going inside is probably the only option. If we don’t want to draw attention, I’m going to recommend we go in two at a time.
Kyrin and I should go in first, seeing we appear to be from this area. If we haven’t exited in two minutes, then Bentuk and Cascabelle should come in and make themselves comfortable. Because Ing and Taalaako look obviously not from this area, they should hang back just outside the door. This will give us a guarded retreat if we need it.
During this process everyone should be listening for any signs of combat, or someone leaving the tavern that fits Runa’s or Hjort’s discerption. Thallin looks to see if everyone agrees with his recommendation.

![]() |

If I were a nasty GM, I'd ask if anyone thought to get a description of the pair, but I'll assume that you did. :)

![]() |

Thallin nods in agreeance to Casabelle, as he heads off with Kyrin.
On the way to the tavern, Thallin mumbles to Kyrin. This should be interesting

![]() |

Thallin looks around the tavern, looking for anyone who meets Runa’s or Hjorts description. He then looks for a comfortable spot to sit.

No sooner do Thallin and Kyrin set foot in the ramshackle building than they are beset upon by a variety of comments, cat calls, and drunken insults, several of which come from the bartender. This enormous, bearded man wearing leather armor and conspicuously missing his right arm is the loudest and most vile—-every insult he slings is met with raucous laughter from the crowd, who in turn insult the bartender’s insults and then hurl more at you.
The temperature inside the Horned Helm is stiflingly hot—-nearly 100° F. This is because of two enormous iron furnaces crammed full of coal, wood, and anything else flammable that radiate the scorching fires of Hell themselves. Most of the crowd are sweating excessively, which only adds to the room’s dank stench.
Kyrin spots a man seated opposite from the entrance, with only the profile of his left side visible, who matches the description of Hjort.

![]() |

Tal looks very uncomfortable, as birds can't sweat to cool themselves, but sure as hell can smell the disgusting body odor of human sweat. He pulls out a scroll, handing it to Cascabelle. "Any chance you'd be willing to toss that spell onto me, friend? It's horrible in here."
It's a scroll of endure elements.

![]() |

Sorry, thought only Kyrin and Thallin were first in. Taalaako also spots Hjort.

![]() |

Ack! You're totally right, I flubbed the plan! Since Cascabelle is outside as well, can we say that I handed it to her when I felt the rush of hot air from the door and smelled the stink of sweat, and didn't actually enter yet?

![]() |

After glancing around the tavern, Thallin looks for a table that is close to the wall. After making sure the table is in a desirable spot, he points it out to Kyrin. I think we should sit over there, and see if they show up. Thallin sits at the table, orders an ale, and keeps his eyes open.

![]() |

Sorry, I'm having internet problems here (and a technician should be here tonight.). Typing from a phone right now, so I'll be terse. I'll cast the endure elements on Thallin as requested.

On Taalaako :-P

![]() |

That's going to depend heavily on Kyrin. He spotted someone that resembles Hjort. I on the other hand, have no idea he is there. I intend to hang tight till the rest of the group is in place either way.

![]() |

Sorry, my mistake. I took his Sense Motive as the Perception score. Thallin spots Hjort, whereas Kyrin does not. Kyrin senses a lot of hostility from the patrons.

![]() |

After observing the area, Thallin spots a patron that fits the description of Hjort. Acting normally, he then selects a table close to the wall. After making sure the table is in a location where he can observe the man, he pulls up a chair, then signals for Kyrin to make himself comfortable
Thallin pulls back his fur lined hood, and quietly turns to Kyrin. That man over there looks to fit the description of Hjort. Thallin points in Hjort’s direction, keeping his hand low on the table, so it can’t be seen.
Thallin orders some ale, and then waits for the rest of his group to get into position.

![]() |

"Ah, I see him now," replies Kyrin. [b]"There is a lot of hostility here, we would do well not to stir things up without our companions."
Kyrin will use detect evil, focusing on Hjort.

![]() |

The next pair of Pathfinders file quietly into the crowded room. A DC 15 Perception check spots Hjort.

![]() |

Once his companions are all in the room, Kyrin will go and sit at the table in front of Hjort.
"We have questions for you, Hjort," he says calmly, trying to show that he does not wish to fight the man. "Perhaps we should go somewhere a little more quiet to talk?" he offers.

I was originally thinking that I would be covert in the bar, but then remembered that I am literally carrying a banner with the Pathfinder symbol on it! So much for a low profile.
Cascabelle will hang by the door along with Tal, and try to stand in front of the banner.

![]() |

On seeing the brightly-colored banner, the catcalls and taunts intensify. As Kyrin approaches Hjort, the man suddenly screams, "Please! Don't kill me! I'm not Hjort! He paid me to wear these clothes and to pretend to be him! Please don't kill me!"
At that, a man at the bar stands and calls out, "Pathfinders!" Suddenly, seemingly from everywhere, chairs begin to fly, mugs are smashed, punches are thrown, and the room devolves into sweaty, blood-drenched chaos.

"You!" Bentuk stands to his full height, pointing where he last saw the bartender. "Have you no bouncers?"
He draws his spear, menacing the thug nearest Thallin (north one) (just realized it's 30' only) the brawler at the bar. "Let us leave in peace."

Let me know (before WhtKnt posts) if any of you would like the spots we are in, and I'll adjust our movement. Also, WhtKnt, do the tables and chairs grant cover? Are they counted as difficult terrain if part of them is in a square?

![]() |

Yes, the table and chairs can be used for cover and any square they are in counts as difficult terrain.

![]() |

Alright. Ing threatens the two brawlers closest to it with its bite, then. It chooses to deal nonlethal damage if any of them provoke. (And won't attack if they're just running away, of course.)

![]() |

Cascabelle casts Mage Armor on herself. She'll also lengthen her teeth to their full serpentine form, to make good and sure people don't mistake her for someone helpless.
Is it night or day?

Thallin watches the chaos erupt around the room. He watches closely, looking for any fool heading his way. He observes the mayhem and intends to defend himself with nonlethal force if possible.
Calmly he draws one of his blunt tip arrows. With a word of warning he shouts to the crowd. Stand down gentlemen, or this is going to get ugly.
Thallin waits to see if any of the riff raff tries to engage him. If they do, he intends to take a five foot step back, out of harm’s way, and then launch a nonlethal, blunt tip arrow into the man’s face.

Bentuk makes his pronouncement and the brawler at which he points blanches, but stays in the fight. Similarly, the brawler nearest Ing turns away from the eidolon, but does not back down.
Brawler #1 steps up to Thallin and throws a punch at the rogue, but the blow goes wide, resulting in a clean miss. Brawler #2 picks up the chair he had been sitting in and hurls it at Kyrin. The chair misses the aasimar, smashing against the back wall behind the bar. Brawler #3 moves to the bar and throws a punch at Kyrin, but the paladin's armor turns the blow. Brawler #4 moves into position to also launch a punch at Kyrin and misses badly.
Across the room, Brawler #5 moves to flank Ing and attempts to rabbit punch the eidolon, but his attack also fails. Brawler #6 swings at Bentuk and connects, knocking one of the Pathfinder's teeth loose (Bentuk takes 3 points of lethal damage (they have Improved Unarmed Strike)). Brawler #7 swings at Ing, but his blow also falls short. Brawler #8 raises his chair and hurls it at Cascabelle, smashing it into splinters against her frame (Cascabelle takes 4 points of damage).
