PFS 1.01 -The Devil We Know - Part I - Group Red (Inactive)

Game Master Chad Newman

Roll20.net Maps

For my first shot at PbP on these boards I will be running a group of eager and ready Pathfinders through the first scenario of season 1, The Devil We Know - Part I. I will be running this as a tier 1-2 scenario, so new players/characters are encouraged to apply.

Please review the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play for build rules if you are unfamiliar with setting up a character for PFS.

The intention of this scenario is to start a longer running series of scenarios that will go through season one in its entirety. After the first scenario I will post recruitment for the second. Preference will be given to members to completed the first scenario and if all players wish to carry on to the next scenario then I will skip recruitment entirely. Ideally this may evolve into an actual PbP campaign, running through season one.

I will be accepting applicants until Monday, May 20th, at which time I will select the group and start the scenario.

Participants are expected to adhere to the following:

- You must be a daily poster. Preference will be made for those who show higher activity on the boards and a history of PbP activity. I fully expect to complete the scenario as quickly as the players set the pace for. I am online for 8 straight hours during the day (7am-4pm EST) and can move things along rather quickly during that time. On the weekends there may be less activity, but I will likely make at least 1-2 posts, sometimes more. It is summer after all. Get some sun!

- You must have a PFS legal character. If you are not starting a character at the ground I may ask for your chronicle sheets to prove you have earned anything beyond your starting allotment. This also goes for any feats, traits, or other abilities that aren't considered core. You may be required to show proof of ownership of the material that allows for these to be used, per the rules set forth in Additional Resources for Players.

- You must be willing to ROLE play, not just ROLL play. The GM feeds off of the players, so a good group of roleplayers helps the game take on a life of its own.

Your Application should include the following:

- A complete character stat block, hidden in the main post using the Spoiler tag. If you do not know how to use this tag click on the button below "Submit Post" of your reply that says How to format your text. For a PbP game you should be familiar with all of these tags anyway.

- (Optional) A character background. This will allow me to RP with your character a little better, understand their motives, and even tailor hints or dialogue to them specifically. While not required, I will look upon those characters with a background a bit more favorably.

- A brief note of your posting habits or schedule. If you are more available or likely to post on specific days or at specific times, let me know.

About Me:

I've been gaming for over 30 years, having started as a much younger man with the original D&D Basic set. Yes, back when Elf was a class. Crazy isn't it? Since those times I've played and GM'ed in more games and campaigns than I could ever count. I've ran AD&D, 2nd Ed AD&D, 3.5 and 4e, Pathfinder, Gurps, Palladium, Mutants and Masterminds, Star Wars, etc. and so on. I'm a regular at Gen Con and am currently gaming through online methods due to a dry spell in this area for good local gaming. So far it has been almost as rewarding as an actual tabletop game.

The Exchange

Good but rather tough module. good luck to the DM and all the Pathfinders going trough it.

May the Strength and Honor of the Lantern lodge Guide you all

Sovereign Court

Roary Flamebearer reporting for duty.. All info is in his profile.

Grand Lodge

I would love to join you. The demand for Pathfinder Society is pretty low at the moment in my area. I currently play in a weekly game at my local store which is a GM written campaign and I'd like to get submerged more in the official Pathfinder Society lore.

I will post multiple times a day as I teach and am already on summer break and my kids are still in school(suckers). Full disclosure, like you my activity dips to 1-5 times a day on the weekend as I do have a family and they do need me every now and then.

I have a Cleric that has gone through 2 sessions and is still level 1 that I really enjoy playing. Here he is:

Gryne Skystone

Background:
The allure of Air has called to Gryne Skystone since he was a child. He always had a unique connection to finding forced air fractures in stone and the origin of drafts within the mines. It wasn't until he began to mature that he felt the calling to the surface world. His willingness to volunteer for caravans making trips to the surface were used as research into the Air above the surface. He felt free out there and began to show subtle manipulations of the wind and other elements around him. His brother teased that his lanky build was punishment for this connection to the air(Cha-8).

During a routine trip, his caravan was attacked by Orc bandits. Gryne still learning where his abilities were coming from let loose with an elemental storm of wind and lightning killing the Orc's and saving all but one of his fellow Dwarves. Upon return to his home, he was greeted with skepticism and hesitation. It was decided that his abilities were better served above the Dwarven sanctuary, living in exile for following the ways of the Air rather than the Earth.
Gryne vowed to return to his family a hero to be proud of.

Sovereign Court

Here is my submission, new to PFS but not to PBP. Can usually post multiple times per day and check in on my lunch break (I work retail as a cashier so usually hour long lunches). Crunch behind alias, should be up to PFS code, 20 point buy with 150gp total. Still need 2 traits, but otherwise should be good to go.

I'm submitting Twigg! gnomish fey sorcerer. I just finished up my first PFS adventure.

Going to add to this as I go along, so I know at a glance who we have that is interested, and the order of posting:

Arcane Classes:
The Twigg - Gnomish Sorcerer, Tattoos and Weasels, Fey Bloodline

Melee/Ranged Classes:
Roary Flamebearer - Ulfen Invulnerability Rager (Zerker 2), Big Nasty Sword
"Bash" - Ulfen Unbreakable Fighter, Hammer to the nose

Skill Classes:

Divine Classes:
Gryne Skystone - Dwarven Inquisitor, Bow and Longhammer, Air Domain

Hey Gryne, I might be missing something on your character, but you realize that putting your armored kilt with scale makes you function as if wearing heavy armor correct? Since you don't have the proficiency with it you'd be taking a -4 on all attack rolls and skill rolls.

Did I miss something somewhere?

Yup, my bad. I put it there as a "note to self" and never removed it. I will do so now.

Everything else look kosher to you?

Thanks.

Yep, looks fine. That just jumped out at me because it came up recently in a previous game with another player. Was still fresh in my head!

Submitting Seika the ranger for consideration. I'm on summer break so can post fairly often. Once school starts backup I'll probably drop to 1/day. I'm new to Society play so please go easy! :)

Lantern Lodge

I thought I would throw my hat in the ring (not like I liked that hat anyway).

This Half Elf Arcane Duelist Bard is my first PFS character because I don't want to drive 2 hours to go to the nearest place where Society play happens. Astarton has been through 4 scenarios on PBP and isn't formatted the way you like, but that can be changed if you like. I have all of the Chronicle sheets, but I didn't know if I was too high exp for consideration or not.

Edit: I've been playing Table Top RPG's since '96, and have done some DMing but I don't think I'm very good at it. Our group switched to pathfinder during the Serpent Skull Campaign, and I'm pretty regular on the boards, and have been since then.

Melee/Ranged Classes:
Roary Flamebearer - Ulfen Invulnerability Rager (Zerker 2), Big Nasty Sword
"Bash" - Ulfen Unbreakable Fighter, Hammer to the nose
Seika of the Plains - Human Ranger, Woman of the Plains, Slayer of Undead, Deadly at range

Skill Classes:
Astarton Columbridge - Half Elf Bard (2), Comedic Genius and duelist extraordinaire (I realize you are more melee than skill class, but bards always get lumped into the "skill" category) :)

Divine Classes:
Gryne Skystone - Dwarven Inquisitor, Bow and Longhammer, Air Domain

Sovereign Court

Submitting Birgit, daughter of the nobles of the white throne, attorney at law in the city at the center of the world and all together delicious morsel,

Winter witch

PS good to see you Astarton this is DaWay.

Personally I am a husband and father so I get my gaming outlet mainly through pbp. Decided to do pfs because so many games die before they get started. I have been gaming since 88. In my life I have been a student, martial artist, musician, surveyor, firefighter, and personal trainer.

Grand Lodge

I'd like to apply for a position, good sir.

As a player, I am responsible, post regularly, have something that passes for a sense of humour, have good hygiene and communicate. I work from home and am in the Eastern time zone (US).

This would be my very first PFS character.

"Comedic Genius" might be a bit of a stretch too. :P

Delicious morsel? Vanilla, right?

Good to see you too! Now I don't have to point far if I want someone else to blame for my chronicle sheets.

I will have to say, this would be the first time I've seen "good hygiene" listed as a qualification in a PbP game :) Bonus points!

Also, about your character. Is your disable device skill really at a +3? Since its a trained only skill, you'd have a +4 for having 1 rank, +4 for your dex, and then adding any other tidbits. I'd think your minimum would be +8 if it was a trained skill. Of course, I could be missing something.

Grand Lodge

With all my gear I'm heavily encumbered. At light encumbrance, I'm at 9. I'll change the profile to fit this and review the stuff I have. Rogues probably do not need all that stuff!

It's all those toiletries you carry to keep up your good hygiene.

Grand Lodge

Soap is an important part of every player's gear. ;)

Miri Grandflower wrote:

Agreed!

My general rule of thumb for PFS is that since most of the story lines happen in a city, I don't carry around dungeon exploring gear unless it has multiple uses. Its ok to note on your sheet that certain items only go with you under certain circumstances. For instance, you don't need trail rations in the city.

Also, you usually have time to gear up if you are setting out for points unknown outside the city, so keeping the cash on hand lets you buy the specific gear you think you would need based on the circumstances.

For any of my games, always assume you will have the chance to buy gear prior to setting out. That may help lighten you while in town.

Then again, there aren't many options to use soap in a dungeon either :)

Sovereign Court

Or you could always hire yourself a good porter ... I call them fighters.

Silver Crusade

I'd be interested in running in this with my secondary PFS character. He's a Cavalier who has dedicated his life to bringing about change through peaceful resolution where possible.

Mechanically, he's a well armoured individual who has (fairly) expert knowledge of wielding his longsword.

Grand Lodge

Birgit Birgirssdottir wrote:

I like the way you think...

Arcane Classes:
The Twigg - Gnomish Sorcerer, Tattoos and Weasels, Fey Bloodline
Birgit Birgissdottir - Human Oracle, Ice Ice Baby, aka No Heals for You...yet!

Jeffery the Pious - Human Cavalier, Knight of the Blue Rose, Comes with a horse!

Skill Classes:
Astarton Columbridge - Half Elf Bard (2), Comedic Genius and duelist extraordinaire (I realize you are more melee than skill class, but bards always get lumped into the "skill" category) :)
Miri Grandflower - Half Elf Rogue, Pack Mule, Soap and a Rope (And yes, another melee that gets tossed into the "skill" category!)

Divine Classes:
Gryne Skystone - Dwarven Inquisitor, Bow and Longhammer, Air Domain

Looking really heavy on the melee/ranged types. VERY light on healing. The only characters with any healing that have applied so far are a bard and an inquisitor. This module is pretty deadly without a cleric hanging about, but still might be doable. Then again, if you have enough swords in someone's face it can end a battle pretty quickly!

Because of the difficulty, I am inclined to run this as a 5-6 person scenario.

Sovereign Court

Actually Birgit is a winter witch currently when she levels she will be an oracle.

Birgit Birgirssdottir wrote:

Corrected! I apologize for that. I saw Oracle of Winter and got completely confused. My old eyes skipped right past the winter witch part :)

Donkeys are cheaper, and easier to get along with.

I've met some stubborn donkeys. They are usually of the ulfen variety.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4

I'm cooking up a female Mwangi bard (dervish dancer). Haven't played PFS, but I'm really interested in trying it out. I'll try to post the character as soon as I can.

Going to be at the lake for the weekend. I may get a chance to update while I am there, but can't be for certain. Otherwise I will post any additional followups on Sunday when I return.

If we can get another divine applicant (preferably a cleric), I will split the applicants into two groups and run both groups through the scenario. I'd hate to waste such good applications.

Sovereign Court

GM with your permission I would like to spend my 2 prestige points gained from doing the Master of the Fallen Fortress scenario on a band aid (Wand of CLW) that way I can at least heal outside of combat.

EDIT: nvm, I only got 1 PP for that scenario

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 4

This is my first PFS character, just finished creation. I'm planning on taking the second level as Fighter to get the Dervish Dance feat as quickly as possible, and then goin dervish dancer all the way. I would like this character to really be a Jack-of-all trades, working filling in as skill monkey (including opening locks and disarming traps), melee fighter, healer and arcane caster. Let's see how that works out. ;)

Without further ado, I present Makena Nyambose, female Mwangi bard (dervish dancer).

Sovereign Court

Did you look at the Dawnflower Dervish archetype, they get they Dervish Dance feat for free.

If you want another healer I'd be willing to make a cleric in the group opposite of Twigg

I did, but I didn't like the religious requirements. Doesn't fit the character I have in mind. I'd rather suffer a little in the 1st level to end up with the build I want. :)

Liberty's Edge

Cleric of Sarenrae for consideration (this is opposite from Twigg)

That would actually work great.
