"Yes. I'll walk with her." Elemenar takes Mireille gently by the elbow then speaks quietly to her. "I think we should go around these buildings and put some distance between us and the guards." He starts to guide her behind the building to the south.

Ischell hears the commotion from outside, a muffled yell for somewhere around front, and the sudden halt to the knocking. He jumps up from his position on the floor and moves to the front door. We were supposed to have more time....

He turns the corner around the front door and calls out to the guards "Just take it easy man. Lets talk"

"Just keep walking." Elemenar whispers to Mireille and the two of them keep moving. Elemenar glances up at the roofs of the nearby buildings wondering if they are close enough that he could help Mireille climb up on one to hide.

We moved behind #2. Are the roofs angled or flat? That is, if Mireille got on a roof, could she lie down and not be seen?

Vexin keeps an eye back at the group but moves up to the next intersection to look for more guards or head the others off with another conversation to slow them.

Its possible to get up to the roof and not be seen.

"Talk? Why would I want to talk? Our criminal may be escaping and you are delaying me." While the GREEN guard talks to Ischell about being delayed, he doesn't actually turn and assist his other guard.

Elemenar spots a low hanging eave. "Here, let me help you climb up there. Then you can hide on the roof. But hurry. You need to get up there before the guards see you." Elemenar interleaves his fingers together to make a step for Mireille. She tries to use the step to get to his shoulders and from there onto the roof.

I imagine a climb or acrobatics check is needed by Mireille?

Ischell continues to engage in conversation. He is loud, charismatic and friendly, but again- something less than quick with his sentences and his responses.

”Dude-You are a guard?! You never said you were a law officer, man! You sounded like a jaded lover, the way you were pounding and carrying on!”

Ischell uses this moment to slow down a bit.

”Who is it you are looking for again? I am from out of town, but I might be able to help”

Note: Ischell is very careful not to lie- everything included above is simply an observation.

While talking with the guard, Ischell will do everything he can to keep the guard looking in his direction. That might include asking a random question, making hand gestures, or otherwise using conversation to distract the guard

He continues to look around, attempting to see the locations of other guards or anything else of note, or anything that seems out of place.

Ischell steps back, clearly NOT reaching for a weapon.

"What the HELL, man! That's bloody assault, dude- and totally. Not. Cool."

Ischell takes a moment, and rubs his jaw where the guard's blow fell. His tone, but not his posture, escalate with the moment.

This is as good of a distraction as any I guess...

"You just assaulted an unarmed, and unthreatening civilian- unprovoked. I don't know much about Corentyn law, but that is against EVERYTHING a lawful and orderly society stands for. DUDE. And it's not, like, acceptable or anything."

Ischell takes a deep breath.

"If you heard an angry man pounding on the door of an Inn, yelling for some dame to open up... what would you think was happening, man? At NO POINT did you ever say that you were a guard or declare your presence in anyway. How am I supposed to know you are a guard if you don't tell me..."

His voice gets even louder- at nearly a full yell, hoping to draw the attention of EVERYONE on the street and in the square.

"I am a guest here in Corentyn, under the direct invite of the QUEEN HERSELF. And instead I am ASSAULTED by a guard in plain daylight- directly against the LAWS and Customs of Cheliax. You have offered no CHARGE and I have offered you NO threat. MAN!"

"You wish discipline? That I can do, and am glad to do so." The RED guard walks over to the GREEN one.

"This civilian giving you trouble?" he asks, looking at Ischell.

The GREEN guard nods.

"By the laws of Corentyn, you are hereby detained for the unlawful interference of the peacekeeper guards. Put your hands behind your back" RED states, looking at Ischell.

Realizing that his distraction has not only run to its proper conclusion, but by having both guards on him will allow the remainder of the group to get Mireille to safety, Ischell complies, and is handcuffed and taken to the local jail, flanked by both guards.

In the meantime, Mireille and everyone else made it to the safehouse without incident, and assures everyone that she will lay low for the time being, but can't guarantee that she will keep on the straight and narrow. The good news that she said was that even though Ischell was arrested, bail will be made in a day or so, so the best course of action is to return to Zefiro and let him know that she is safe.

I am running three concurrent groups with this scenario. Your solution proved the most fun. One group is still stalling, the other went right for a fight. And, lets be honest, Ischell being arrested is funny, and a good bruise to his ego! LOL!

Hearing the commotion out in front of the building, Elemenar realizes that if he and Mireille hurry they can probably get past the guards. Instead of getting on the roof, he guides her to the safe house.

"Master Zefiro, we are pleased to announce that Mireille made it to safety. It was a bit close for a second but we handled it."

Ischell continues with his tirade on the street. Refusing to draw arms, but continuing to draw attention to the front of the "Fox Den".

"...This aggression will not stand, man"

As the second guard approaches, he appeals to the newcomer: "You, Sir. Please explain to this dude here what the definition is of assault is...", but trails off as the head guard is clearly not listening

The head guard converses briefly with the tool and pronounces the notice of arrest.

Well. I guess I saw that coming... Over the shoulder of the guards, he sees the flitting image of Elemenar and Mireille slipping across the bridge and on to safety. A smile crosses his face, for a brief moment, before returning back to the situation at hand.

"Yea, well, that's just like, your opinion, man"

He doesn't fight while the shackles are getting put on- and he shoots Malora a quick, knowing glance, before continuing on with his mostly unintelligible barrage of complains and observations as they drag him away from the Fox Den.

"... ... ...Careful! There is a beverage here!... ... ..."

Lawmaster Malora nods at Sir Ischell in turn. Once he's being led away, and Malora's certain Mirielle is safe she turns to the others.

"I'll see Sir Ischell rejoins us soon. You ensure Mirielle stays safe and Master Zefiro is informed."

Then Malora heads back out into the city, intent on using every law and legal course of action necessary to get Sir ischell freed.

Malora will get a lawyer, file paperwork, and do everything in her power to see Ischell legally freed as soon as possible. She'll rejoin the others when he's free, trusting them to run point with Zefiro.

I am loving the groups I am in right now with the way things are handled. Poor Ischell tho.

Vexin makes sure the path is clear the rest of the way as Elemenar guides Mirielle. After she is safe he checks back with Malora.

"Luckily as a human...he will be fine if he cooperates. Especially with you hounding them." he lets a smirk appear on his face for a moment before returning to Zefiro with the others.

Another poor soul dragged away by the LAWS of this hell. We will get him out one way or another. The Society sure puts a lot of faith in their agents.

Mindartis eyes the lawmaster before he turns toward Mirielle and his other comrades trying to escape. "Come on now. We should head to safety with haste. We will help out Ischell later on, but for now, your safety is our priority."

Ischell takes his time in the jail as an opportunity to set himself and refocus. He works his way through his training forms, meditations, and exercises.

When not sitting alone in silence, Ischell continues to discuss with his jailers the nature of his "crimes". He remains incredulous and vocal regarding the detainment and arrest of a civilian assaulted by guards- especially in a society such as Cheliax where law and order are held in high esteem.

With no real help from Lawmaster Malora (other than her contacting Marcos Farabellus), after spending three days in jail, Ischell is finally released. When leaving the prison one of the jailors hands Ischell a note from Marcos. It goes on at length about all the diplomatic hoops he had to go through, and next time he might want to hold his tongue to prevent a diplomatic incident. The note goes on to say that the group might want to make it to Emberhold without further embarrassment.

When Ischell finally makes it back to the museum, his first logical place to look for his fellow companions, everyone is overjoyed to see him. While prison wasn't bad, it could have been much worse. Three days of neglect is often as bad as three days of insults and beatings.

Given how well you handled Zefiro and Mireille I am not going to require you to roll a Diplomacy/Intimidate/bluff roll here to get the best information from Zefiro, he is thankful for all you have done, and not gotten Mireille in to much trouble.

Zefiro, once everyone has gathered back, tells you all of a major piece of evidence that he has found. Slide 10, Handout #2 While the remainder of the group not in jail assisted Zefiro in researching Emberhold the information gathered shined little light about it, except that the Thrunes set fire to the keep after starving the Davians out, and during the siege, residents demolished Emberhold piece by piece to reinforce other structures.

Zefiro informs you that are welcomed to spend your last night night at the West Drenches’ Wicked Fork. It’s a weatherworn building marked by a trident with the central tine broken off and run by a talkative proprietor, Neld Havasavu. When you awake the following day, you find Cassian already downstairs, drinking at the bar. His disheveled clothes, damp hair, and grimy brow suggest he’s had an industrious morning—or perhaps just a sleepless night. After he downs another shot, he informs you that he’s through sneaking around for Zarta. He tells you that he met with her contact, the same Tamrin Credence they met at the docks, and delivered Zarta’s message. Neld inches closer as you all speak, working over a glass with a dirty dishrag.

Cassian continues, “Then I come back here and find that rat is an agent for the Aspis Consortium!” Neld leans in and states, “Well, that’s what I heard, anyway. His ties go back— way back. Little remains of the town of Anglemire. Nature is reclaiming the few sturdy stone buildings still visible from the coastline. At the north end of the city, where the Eismont foothills meet with the rocky steps of the Menador Mountains, is a short square tower surrounded by the crumbling walls of Emberhold. Thick curtains of lush, green ivy reach upward from an ocean of waving grass and cling to the cracked stone walls—all that remain of the keep.

If there was any last minute shopping (or planning) to be done before leaving, do it now. We will continue when everyone has checking in by posting, as well as placed their marker on SLIDE 11, at/near the enterance to Emberhold, though players are free to walk around/observe the entire structure if you so wish to do so..

Looking in the front doors you notice lots of greenery. While you didn't get close enough for a more detailed look, when circling the remainder of Emberhold you don't notice as much greenery. You also swear you can hear movement inside, but you aren't especially sure where.

Vexin, if you want to take what Melora reports from this and then plan your movement, go right ahead.

Vexin:

A fire long ago removed the roof and floors of Emberhold’s great hall. Five thick columns still stand amidst a dense gourd patch at the bottom of the large pit that remains. The main doorway on the south side is flanked by two stone staircases that wrap around the interior of the west and east walls, much of which have crumbled to the ground. To the northwest is a square tower that’s only partially standing. Weeds have overgrown a doorway on the east wall, which breaks on the northeast corner for a wide set of stairs descending from the ground level. A rusty iron gate still stands at the center of the pit’s northern wall, rising from the densest portion of the gourd patch and fencing off a descending set of stairs.

However, as you walk in you almost swear that three of the gourds were moving, but stopped as soon as you entered the great hall.

Vexin takes mental notes of the main hall and slips back outside to talk to the others. Also taking note of the gourds he thought moved.

"The courtyard looks clear. Hasn't seen much use...but there is a gate going down that we can check out. Should be safe..." he hesitates because the movement from the gourds keeps bugging him.

Something doesn't feel right.

He decides to bring it up before they head in. "Also, don't call me crazy, but the room has a large patch of gourds...and I think they were moving. Gourds..."

He speaks quietly with the others deciding what they want to do and explaining the layout of the room.
