Yay! Double digit roll

Dark Archive

That was the dice roll you were looking for :)

Tenibri begins to tell your identity and Dewdrop tries to help him. However, only the peaceful manners of Forgrim seems to soothe the woman's feeling about your group. You're lucky she doesn't even try to understand what Agirran said. Although I almost spat my coffee at my computer screen, laughing.

The woman grins and says a few words in a language none of you understand (ancient azlanti) and the faces of the men and women before you begins to lighten up.

Forgrim indeed emits a powerful wave of positive energy to heal the people gathered in here.

After that, the leader comes towards you and speaks to Dewdrop and Tenibri, hoping you'll translate for the others.

"Thank you. My name is Uszanriar and I am temporarily in charge of these ones. Our group’s commander, general Krahnaliara Lac Suhn, was dragged away by the priests of the serpent-god only an hour earlier. I believe that he is now somewhere within their temple. I shall now dedicate myself to fighting off the serpentfolk."

As she speaks of the serpentfolk and their god, she spits on the ground to show her disdain and disgust.

Forgrim: You can use a channel to heal all of them a little bit. No need to roll it. I thought it was the faster way to deal with this encounter, since you offered to provide healing.

Aaaand that's one more victory point! Where to, now? You can still ask some question to Uszanriar before she leads the freed azlanti to the fight against the serpentfolk.

Tenibri actually has Azlanti among his languages he's studied. Are they speaking an older version of that language than what he knows?

Dark Archive

Oh, indeed! I didn't see that. That must've been why you succeeded so well ;)
They are indeed speaking an older version but you can understand about 90% of they say. You actually know that lots of Taldan words (i.e. what is today called "Common" in Golarion) have Azlanti roots.

Tenibri gets visibly excited when he realizes that he understands the words the woman speaks to her companions—at least most of them! He responds in kind, though in a somewhat stilted fashion, as he has to search for vocabulary and sentence structure, and mispronounces many of the the words in this language that he's previously only known in its written form.

Azlanti:

"This is incredible, you speak Azlanti! This language is dead in my time; I've never had the opportunity to actually speak it. Now, we only use it for research and ancient documents. Wait, say that last thing again?"

He listens as the woman repeats a phrase she'd just spoken. He digs in his gear to find an inkpen and ink. Finding nothing to write on, he pulls out his scroll case and starts taking notes on the back of what looks to be an arcane scroll!

Azlanti:

"Unbelievable. We've actually been conjugating that all wrong; I see now that you have to use the alternate form when there's a participle. Oh my, this changes everything."

He continues to scribble frantically, taking notes as the woman speaks, now completely ignoring any need to progress further into the temple or achieve any particular goals.

Dark Archive

The leader raises an eyebrow and uncrosses her arms on her chest. She looks pretty surprised that you speak her language.

"I... I just asked them to calm down and that you were allies. What do you mean by saying "dead in your time" and that you use it only for "research"?"

As a hint of curiosity appears on Uszanriar's face, although it is soon replaced by a frown as a loud *BOOOM* is heard somewhere behind her in the corridor. She turns and shouts:

"Well that was interesting meeting you and all but we have serpent blood to spill!"

Tenibri looks thrown off at the woman's question about his off-hand remarks, and begins stumbling for an answer that hopefully doesn't reveal the jumbled timeline in a way that would be alarming. Before he can get any kind of answer out, though, the sound of an explosion reverberates through the passageways, and Tenibri uses the distraction to avoid the topic.

Azlanti:

"You're right, we should proceed and deal with the problems at hand. After you, please, you'll know better where we're headed."

He turns to the rest of the group. "We're going to go help them rescue their commander; I think she knows the way, so we should follow. Gather up your things!" Saying this last, he realizes that he's the only one not ready to get moving immediately, and hustles to get his notes and writing materials packed away.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Are you asking if you could carry weapons openly in the temple during a rebellion?

Having no other questions to asks to the azlant leader, you choose to head towards the temple where their own real leader is being hold prisoner, certainly waiting to be sacrificed to the serpent god. You run towards the surface and arrive at the Temple Plaza. You see there that fellow pathfinders, aided by azlant rebels, fight some animated statues. Since your target is further, you enter the temple.

Within the twilit stone temple, Ydersius’s faithful and their guardians await whatever treachery human invaders have instigated on their holy day. They recognize the hand of magic in the sudden change in the skies and fully expect an attack at any moment.

After running though corridors with corpses lying on the ground, you eventually arrive, panting, in a big room.
Glowing coals warm this shrine and cast an eerie under-lighting on the towering, snake-headed statue behind the altar. The reek of ammonia and rotting flesh fills the air and burns the eyes. The sound of flapping wings and an angry hiss accompany the appearance of a flying snake that attacks you!

Azlanti:
"On your guard now! Heads up!"

Tenibri shakes his head as he realizes he's still speaking a forgotten tongue. "Sorry, flying snake, watch out!" He holds his hands out to draw in pure arcane energy from the space around him and forms it into a ball. He throws the ball towards the flying serpent; 20' out and 20' in the air (I think this is correctly calculated for the 30' range of a summon monster I spell), the swirling energy bursts open into a portal, out of which flies an eagle, surrounded by its own sparkling energy!

Spending 1 arcane reservoir point to use Conjurer's Focus (standard action)

Conjurer's Focus:

Conjurer's Focus: An occultist can spend 1 point from her arcane reservoir to cast summon monster I. She can cast this spell as a standard action, and the summoned creatures remain for 1 minute per level (instead of 1 round per level). An occultist cannot have more than one summon monster spell active in this way at one time. If this ability is used again, any existing summon monster effect immediately ends.

D'oh! Since this is the case, let's use its full movement and position it on the far side of the flying serpent. It has 80' of flight, so plenty of movement to end on the opposite side of the flying serpent, at 35' high (i.e. slightly above), without provoking any AoO. "%^!# &^@&%@ *#$& $@%& BIRD! GET OUT OF THE &*$@#!% WAY!" Agirran steps back and growls out the words of magic just as stridently as he had cursed.

spellcraft DC 16:
Agirran casts obscuring mist on himself

Cold ocean mist spills out from around his fists. 20' radius in all available directions.

Hmmm, the eagle does make it harder to attack the serpent; I'm going to have to think about that next time.

Giant ant (soldier)

The eagle swoops in again, keeping pace with the flying serpent, and delivers another attack with beak and talons.

Sorry I forgot to move him last time.

Dark Archive

The combined fury of the pathfinder group is no match for the flying snake's strengths and resilience. He falls to the ground with a loud *thud* as he's being clawed and pierced by crossbows and gusting winds.
For a small moment, the place where Agirran used to stand is surrounded by mist but after a minute, everything comes back to normal as the fog dissipates.

Since the battle is over and the room cleared of any threats, you can try to take notes for your reports.

You can attempt a single skill check using one of the following skills: Appraise, Craft (armor, clothing, or jewelry), Disguise, Knowledge (nobility or religion), Perception, Profession (clerk, merchant, or scribe).

Dewdrop:

I'll check this later today, when I'll have more time. I must confess I'm not completely convinced for now.
