Hugo Smith
Whether due to bravado or sensing Zinny timidness, or possibly both, Hugo stepped to stand next to her. Grasping her rope and pulling it from her grasp slowly but firmly, he started tying it around his waist "Yer a big girl Zinny but ya dun weigh as much as I do. I is gunna be da bait, and yer gonna 'elp me get dat ugly fing down 'ere so we can smack it." He looked at the others "Ya'll 'elp 'er."
Handing Zinny his lifeline and hanging his weapon on his belt, he started moving towards the center of the room, arms held at the ready to grasp the sticky strand and pull with all his might once it attacked.
GM &rew
OK...here we Go!! =)
Goin' fishin!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
The cave fisher shoots a thin filament at Hugo, but it fires a bit early and misses him. And that's when the second one comes out on the ledge and tries to snag him, too...
Wing man attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Perhaps they missed on purpose. Perhaps Hugo's body oil prevented the strands from sticking. Maybe he couldn't help but dodge out of the way. But miss they do!
Unless you choose to let the strands hit you?
Brother Silas Benedictine
That's an awful lot of gold...
"That's an awful lot of danger," Silas cautions, while helping secure the rope around Hugo's waist, pulling the rope taut to ensure it is tight. "I'll help Zinnia with the rope. Tomid, why don't you be ready to cut the thing to pieces when it falls down..."
Silas takes hold of the rope and, if Hugo allows it to catch him, yanks quickly to use Hugo's gravitational momentum as an extra "tug" on the Cave Fisher, trying to aid Zinny in her strength check.
Strength: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
He doesn't appear to be much use to Zinny!
Hugo Smith
Hugo wasnt prepared for the first one attacking so soon, the filament shooting past him. As the second one appeared and fired however, he reached out and grabbed the missing length of silk, quickly tugging at it with a roar.
Rage activated, +4 STr, 9/11 rounds left
Strength: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Zinny Holbern
"Oh gods, there's two of 'em!" Zinny squeaks when the second makes its appearance. Oh no, if she's misjudged and Hugo gets hisself kilt because of her plan....
Readied action to strength check Yoink when/if Hugo gets grabbed, since her pulling on the rope before they grapple Hugo wouldn't do much good?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Le sigh!
Hugo Smith
While Hugo may not be interested in being pulled up, I myself am sitting here doing a Heath Ledger Joker impression, going "Cmon, I want you to yoink me, cmon, yoink me, YOINK ME!!"
GM &rew
Letting the second one hit...the tug-o-war begin!
CMB Pull: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 vs Hugo's 19 CMD with Rage
Where did that second beast come from?!? The swiftness of the events startles everyone, with the second cave fisher hitting Hugo and starting to drag him after everyone thought the attack was over...Hugo is quickly being reeled in like a giant carp. He was pulled 10 feet into the cave and is just at the wall beneath the crab-like beasts. (30 feet vertical to go...)
Everyone who was holding the rope make a DC(10) Reflex save to keep a grip on the rope and not take any damage. If you fail, you take 1d2 ⇒ 1 points damage to your hands from rope burn and are no longer holding it.
whatcha gonna do when they come for you? =)
Hugo Smith
Reaching the base of the wall, Hugo managed to leverage himself against it, jamming his feet into a small pocket in the surface and heaving with all he had. "Dun worry, I gots it!" he yelled back at the others as the creature struggled to remain on its perch.
CMB Pull: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Guessing that succeeds. Not sure how you wanna play it, so left out and description on what happens. Rage 8/11 left
Brother Silas Benedictine
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Silas just barely maintains his grip, and fearing for Hugo's safety - and by extension, his own - he wraps the rope twice around his right wrist while lifting the rope with his left to hand back to give back to Zinny.
"Take hold, Zinnia!"
GM &rew
Well the problem is 'Pull' is not a normal combat maneuver...it is a special attack the monster has. So you can't 'pull' back. You can rip the filament free with a DC 20 Strength check, or you can attempt to escape the filament by making a DC 25 Escape Artist check, or you can attack the filament and hope to break it. The rope around your waist is a nice touch, so I'm allowing a +1 to your CMD for each DC 13 Str check your friends make. How do you want to play it for your action this round?
Grizelda Blau
Pull isn't, but drag is. Could we consider it a drag to pull the creature off it's ledge? I guess it would come down to whether the cave fisher is also attached to it's filament or if it can release it freely.
Grizelda manages to hold onto the rope, but just barely as her boots slide along the cavern floor. "Oh dear! I think we are losing this tug of war!"
Ref save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Tomid
Those filament attacks are touch attacks so I am betting a 15 would hit our large friend Hugo. but likely the same net result.
Tomid, not happy his advise is ignored is never the less resigned to help his friends and readies his bow to attack at first sign of the creature, hopefully surprising the creature (but they are too far up to allow sneak attack I think.)
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 181d6 ⇒ 2
Hugo Smith
Pull isn't, but drag is. Could we consider it a drag to pull the creature off it's ledge? I guess it would come down to whether the cave fisher is also attached to it's filament or if it can release it freely.
Yup, I was thinking about Drag when I rolled that. Basically since I beat its CMD (I'm assuming?) I pull it 5 feet towards me. I wasn't sure if it qualified as Large, in which case 5 feet isn't enough to take it over the edge just yet. Hugos action for his turn was to perform the Drag Maneuver.
GM &rew
So an interesting conundrum...how far can Hugo pull two 400 pound crabs, each with six legs? That cling to the cave walls? That are pulling back at 10' per round if its CMB succeeds? I think we'll play it out like this: There was 40 feet separating you. I'll count each of your combat maneuvers as a distance each round.
Tomid - good point on the touch attack - both filaments would have stuck to Hugo. So here's the other monster's Pull: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 vs Hugo's 19 CMD with Rage.
So they both successfully pull Hugo 10' each. Hugo succeeded in dragging himself back 10' (you exceeded their CMD by 5!) I will now apply Zinny's CMB as a separate drag maneuver against the fisher's CMD (which failed). To keep it simple for me, no other help from other party members will be counted. (It was good for the story, but not for the mechanics) :P
Round 1 summary

CF 1: -10'
CF 2: -10'
Hugo: +10' (5' + 5')

Tomid
Didn't they have to show themselves to attack Hugo? Tomid was readied.
Now that the fishers had Hugo Tomid had no target. He drops his bow and leaps for the rope around Hugo's waist, beginning to climb towards his shoulders.
Climb: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
Hugo Smith
Drag: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Oh joy...
Feeling the battle somewhat stacked against him with the appearance of the second monster, Hugo called out "Uurgh, dis ain't wut I 'ad in mind!" Unable to pull back against them as he had done previously, he reached for his Heavy Mace, readying himself to start squashing once they inevitably pulled him over the edge.
Standard Action, Drag Maneuver. Move Action, retrieve Heavy Mace from belt. 7/11 rounds of Rage left
Next round Hugo will stop resisting, using his Move Action to assist his ascent. He will ready an attack for when they pull him over the edge.
Heavy Mace Two-handed Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 1 = 11
So do I collect my "I played in Ordinary Heroes, and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" T-shirt now, or do I wait till after they kill me?
Tomid
Tomid. who is a lousy climber, is riding you up Hugo. So you will not die alone. lolNot sure how far up the rope he made it and likely is clinging to your boots, but I hope he made it all the way to your backpack.
Zinny Holbern
Zinny's eyes widen as Hugo starts getting draaaaaaagged forward. She runs forward and throws her arms around Hugo's muscular legs to start pulling back.
"Nuh-uh! No way!"
CMB: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Saaaaadlly, she's awful at it.

Since their CMB has to overcome your CMD, I'll still roll it. Your choice if you want to fight back or not. Zinny is trying to help you, though =)

Still just waiting. Hugo draws his shield and drops his Rage, removing the Fatigue with Heart of the Fields. 6/11 rage left
Once they reel him over the edge he will be at 21 AC assuming they are both adjacent for Crowd Control.
GM &rew
Tomid, you're not on a knotted rope next to a wall =) You're "pulling yourself up when dangling by your hands" on a moving surface (Hugo). This is more like a DC 15, but I'm giving you a slight advantage 'cause it makes a more interesting picture in my mind =). So I will stick with my original call on DC - but will revise the outcome of a failed roll. You manage to hang on.
Grizelda Blau
But... But... Acid! *brandishes her forefinger dangerously*
Ok, I'm confused what Griz was allowed to do to help. Can't see the critters, can't hit the ligament. I thought you said only Zinny could affect Hugo's progress. Rounds are rolling by without an action. Is she munching popcorn? =P
Tomid
If the rope was knotted it would be a DC to climb. And is is beside the wall that Hugo is up against, or I am really confused, but I agree that its likely swing wildly, increasing the DC. Tomid is -2 at climb. His best chance it to hang on and let Hugo climb. I think our best chance is to get up there asap. Others could climb since both creatures are busy...
GM &rew
Silas - sure; it is a natural cavern, so you can find some sort of stalagmite to tie the rope to.
Zinny - are you going to keep pulling to get Hugo back, or let him get up there and knock them around a bit? Or something else?
For all, understand that climbing the rope after Hugo is at the top means he would be supporting your weight; likely reduce his ability to effectively fight the creatures...
GM &rew
OK - so silence is consent. The purple lines indicate the edges of the ledge Hugo, Tomid and the crabs are on. It is 30' to the ground!
Red fisher: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) + 9 = 21
Blue fisher: 3d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 8, 5) + 9 = 23
Initiative:
Hugo: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Tomid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Red fisher: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
Blue fisher: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Hugo and Tomid are pulled over the edge of the rock ledge and now face 2 cave fishers. Hugo was waiting for this moment (Heavy Mace Two-handed Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 1 = 11), but wasn't counting on the rough landing as he is yanked over the edge and misses. The cave fishers release their filaments, click their huge claws, and open their little mouths in anticipation of a tasty treat! Hugo's AC is 21, Tomid's is 19, and the fishers' are 15. Let the whacking commence!

Tomid starts dancing and calls out Focus on the one in front of you. He then swings, but is off balance from the tricky terrain and whiffs at the creature.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 2 = 101d4 + 4 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + (1) = 11
I am now paying for all those nat 20s…
Grizelda Blau
Desperate to do something to help them, Grizelda shouted, "Try to move them to the edge so we can fire on them!"
Ready Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Brother Silas Benedictine
Silas, meanwhile, finds something to tie the other end of the rope to so that it is more taut and easier for Tomid to climb. He starts first by running a tight circle around the object and then pulling it hard before knotting it off.
Zinny Holbern
sorry!
Zinny stares up helplessly as Hugo is yoinked free and into the blackness, with his passenger.
"Hugo!!! --an' Tomid too! Hang on! We're comin'!"
Her rope is currently dangling from Hugo's body. She runs for the rock face to try and climb it barehanded, wishing with all her heart she had wings like Gossamer does.
Zinny attempts to climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Zinny attempts to climb, #2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 I assume neither of those are any progress on a bare wall.
"Gossamer! Please, please go help them, it was all my plan an' if Hugo or Tomid gets et it's all my fault!" she pleads with the little dragon.
With a whistling chirp, the little creature beats its wings to soar up into the darkness and join the overhead battle.
If there's a place where she can get the cave fishers, but not Hugo and Tomid, Gossamer will cast Grease: Reflex save DC 14 on them.
Hugo Smith
Finally able to do something productive, and more than a little angered by his terrible miss, Hugo brought the Mace down once more, determined to land a telling blow.
Rage for +4 Str
Heavy Mace Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 1 - 1 = 22
Heavy Mace Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 = 10
"'Ey Zinny, wes ain't ded yet ya know, 'ave a little faith!" he called out, the loud crunch of the Maces impact making his point.
GM &rew
OK...let's clear this up for Zinny and Silas...there is only one rope. It is tied around Hugo's waist. Zinny was pulling on it. Silas tied the other end to a rock, pulling it tight. Now Hugo will not be able to freely move or advance further on the ledge, thus removing any Dex bonuses to his AC and keeping him on the square he occupies. Tomid was clinging to Hugo and made it up at the same time. Sooo...Silas inadvertently immobilized Hugo, and now Zinny is trying to pull him off the ledge by climbing the rope tied to his waist. Do either of you wish to recall your stated actions?
Round 1
Tomid: Swing and a miss!
Hugo: Bang! Bang! Hugo's silver hammer, Came down upon its head...
Red: Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Blue: Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 Claw attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
The cave fishers snap their pincers at you, but none of them manage to connect!

Oh snaps, reading fail :)
Heavy Mace Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 9 + 1 - 1 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 = 14
Noticing a crack left by his previous blow, Hugo quickly brought the mace down again, aiming for the weakened spot. It connected solidly once more, threatening to cave in the carapace.
Brother Silas Benedictine
Whoops! I thought others were going to have to climb the rope! So if you're allowing me to change that action, I will!
Instead, Silas lets go of the rope and moves to stand next to Grizelda, watching, his breathing coming in short rasps seeing them up there and knowing there's nothing he can do to help them!
Tomid
Tomid, still dancing, strikes out at the crab thing that Hugo just hit. Take that! he says as he slices into its carapace.
Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 = 161d4 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
