Zinny pushes back against the wall at Silas's gesture, and offers Tomid a mute thumbs-up for his keen eyes.

Silas presses the catch, and the secret door silently swings open. The light from the arrow and your torches fill a small cave. As soon as the door opens, a kobold voice calls out in the common tongue "Stop! Why you's attack us? We's surrenders. Its the demon you's wants - not us. It down in the bottom caves. We leave and never come back..."

As the sounds of conversation drift down to Grizelda, she lets out a huff of frustration and glares at the rope before her as if trying to threaten it into behaving for her. She grips the rope firmly and screws up her face in determination and puts her boot against the wall, heaving her rotund behind into the air with near herculean effort. Steadily, hand over hand and boot over boot, she arrives up top, surprising everyone, including Gregor and herself.

She plucks the light infused arrow from the floor and sticks it into a crack in the wall, and then pulls out her journal and a pen and addresses the kobolds in their native language.

Translation:
"Did you say demon? What can you tell me about this creature?"

Her mind races, trying to remember a sickness causing demon from her readings.

You the boss? Kobold we captured said boss would not let you leave. You tell us all about the demon and the sickness and any traps, secret doors, and treasures, and we let you and other kobolds leave. Deal?

(Zinny offers Miz Blau a hand up the last few feet. She's a helper!)

Then she listens with furrowed brows to the negotiatin'.

This concealed alcove serves as the main encampment for the kobold warband. Used primarily as a storage area and sleeping quarters, this small cave houses the remnants of a cooking fire, a few scavenged blankets, several sacks, the kobold leader, four other adult kobolds, and two young kobolds.

The kobold leader answers your queries in common. "Powerful creature in lower caves, but never see it. Make us sick. Take our dead. You kill him and take him treasure and let poor us go, yes? Give Gar back too?" he adds, looking at the poor kobold tied to Hugo's belt. Then, turning to Tomid, he says, "You find pit trap? No more traps we set..."

The presence of the young ones might explain his sudden change of heart and negotiating where before the kobolds just attacked you. Plus you have bested his others and he knows he is outnumbered.

Was hoping for a little more detail of what is below. Not even sure if the guy who spoke common was the boss. Did he even respond to Tomid?

Yes, the kobold leader responded to you, Tomid. Perhaps he doesn't know any more about what waits below. Perhaps he does and he's witholding it. That's the problem with not having ESP or clairvoyance...people (and critters) are usually not very observant, distort the facts, and will say things to protect their own interests...

"A demon..." Abigail says quietly to herself. Arms crossed, she considers what she already knows. "Sounds dangerous. Is it bad I wish that Mr. Keel were here? And maybe ten or twelve more armed guards..."

Any way I can try a Knowledge (planes) to try to think of any kind of demon that might cause this sort of thing?

Grizelda and Abigail wrack their brains trying to determine what could be behind this, but there are too many possibilities based on the minimal facts you have. And the kobold leader has never actually seen the thing, so you're not sure it's really a demon...

Hugo should have been worried at the potential prospect of a Demon waiting for them somewhere below, but instead he was filled with excitement "Demons, dats like da fing real 'eros fite!"

Abis concern blunted the excitement somewhat and brought him back down to earth "Ya, 'avin' Keel 'ere would be nice. But we can 'andle it I is sure." His mind wandering to the consequences of what would happen if they couldn't, he put on a serious face "An' if we cant, I ain't gunna let it get ya...Any of ya." He conjured up a small smile, then to distract himself from the thoughts of failure, he looked back into the hole "Well den, wats it gunna be?"

Faith in his companions, yes :)

The kobolds cautiously come out and walk past you on their way out. They do not have any weapons you can see - looking into the area you see their crossbows and half spears on the ground. They are carrying the sacks you saw - they look pretty heavy. The two younger kobolds have a cloak wrapped around them.

Everyone roll another Fort save.

Moving on then?

Abigail?

The party rests for a bit after Gar leaves with the kobolds' weapons, barely able to walk under the load (and the likely concussion from Hugo...) After 30 minutes of rest, a trail ration, and some water, it's time to continue. Doc tells you that it couldn't hurt to wear wet rags over your nose and mouth, but he wasn't sure how the disease was spread and so can not assure it would prevent infection.

The tunnel from the large cavern winds about 70 feet down into the mountain before opening into a round chamber, with a 40 foot diameter. The tunnel to the east leads farther down into the mountain. As you approach, you begin to feel an uncomfortable heat emanating from the room ahead. Although initially mild when you first begins feeling its effects, it reaches sweltering intensity by the time you reach the entryway.

Waves of heat wash through the cave, thickening the air and making breathing difficult. This small, bowl-shaped cavern’s floor is littered with humanoid corpses. Rats skitter through the sea of bodies within the sunken floor, pausing occasionally to nibble at a choice morsel. A host of their brethren lie nearby on their backs, some of them still twitching with a few remnants of life. A tunnel’s opening is visible in the eastern wall of this chamber and, in the distance, the sound of rushing water can be heard.

Hugo had not been paying attention to the room ahead, busy as he was contemplating how it could be hotter than the forge at home, so deep beneath the mountain. He managed to walk several steps forward after his companions had come to a halt at the sight, coming to a stop when his foot hit something on the floor. Looking down, he saw a corpse. Momentarily shocked, he tried to look away to get a hold of himself. Instead he simply saw more bodies. He turned his vision again and again, but every time there was just more death. The thick hot air and the smell of decay enveloped his head and threatened to spill down his throat. Gagging loudly, he stumbled back to the entrance, spilling his recent meal onto the stone floor.

Embarrassed by his lack of fortitude, he said nothing, simply steadying himself against the wall.

Zinny takes Doc's advice, fervently hoping not to become infected. Her handkerchief is dampened by her waterskin, wrapped around her head. By the time they get into the heated room, she has dumped the rest of her waterskin on her head and the back of her neck as well, trying to take the edge off the exhausting heat.

The sight of the corpses makes her eyes squeeze shut. The smell is vile--- so much worse than the dead bodies back at Cromm's. Decay hadn't had a chance to set in, there.

She manages to hold back the nausea, breathing through the wet rag. She sees Hugo retching, and mutters to him-- "Try-- try not t'take deep breaths, it helps a little...."

The rats... she'd love to womp them all, but under the circumstances she doesn't want to spend any more time in this room than she has to. "Let's get through this... this... abbey-twah."

Hugo wouldn't mind the Enlarge, though whether to save it for later is up to you...Abis got channel after all.

Also, you have a critical threat, so roll again, you might get 1d3 more damage :P

Were it not for the dire circumstances of the situation, Hugo might have been almost grateful for the distraction, his nausea all but forgotten in the face of danger. He thought briefly about his shield, but realized there was no time. He had to get in amongst them before they did the same to his friends.

Charging one of the larger zombies, he waved the torch wildly, hoping to get their attention, before dropping it and gripping his hammer with both hands. With an echoing roar he drove the hammer into the dead mans skull.

Or rather, that had been his intention. Instead he almost slipped on the squishy remains of a long dead Kobold, the effort to keep on his feet removing all power from his attack. The hammer hit the zombie with practically no force, uselessly slapping against its skin.

Tomid is startled when a zombie stands up right at his feet. It least it was a little one - one of the kobolds. Tomid - no sneak attack on zombies. How does that change your attack and damage scores?

Male Human Rogue (Charlatan) 3 AC 15 T 12 FF 13 | HP 24/24/d8 | F +1 R +5 W +1 | Init +2 | Perc +6

Actually, there should be sneak attack on zombies. In Pathfinder, you actually can sneak attack and critical hit the undead. Unless that specific undead has some special rules otherwise. Oozes, plants, and elementals, I think, are the only uncrittables/unsneakattackables.

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

Silas is right. I know its strange but you can sneak attack undead in Pathfinder. Designers decided rogues were too weak otherwise. You can even sneak constructs, but maybe not pure golems. But, to answer your question, it does not change the to hit. I was letting you consider that fact that the zombies were flat footed before Tomid acted to establish their AC. The sneak attack die was a 3. You can see that in the numbers if you know where to look. The first roll was a d4 and was a 2 shown in parens. The second roll was a d6, the sneak attack die, and was a 3, also shown in parens.

OK - I don't agree with it but I can't find it in the Pathfinder rules, so your extra damage stands. What is the extra +2 on your attack and damage? I see Inspire Courage from Battle Dance but it should only be +1 attack and damage at 1st level...

Zinny - batter up!

Male Halfling Ninja 2 HP:19/19 AC:18 Fort:1, Reflex:7/8 traps, Will:-1, +2 vs Fear, Init: +4, Per: +6, Stealth +12

Nope. Dance is +2 to hit and to damage at first level. The catcher is that is is not shared with the party. It does take a move action to start, and of course, like any bard's performance, I have limited rounds per day that I can use it.

Zinny stares around slack-jawed as the dead rise. For an instant she wants to just turn and bolt and run home, fast as she can.. but everyone else is running TOWARDS the dead critters, so she will too.

Map currently isn't loading for me. I think it's an issue on my end and I'll muck with it when I have more time, but for now....

Zinny will charge the nearest zombie to her, if terrain allows, and hit it as hard as she can with her big stick!

AC = 12

Yep, undead can now be SA'd, as well as critted, and a whole host of other things that didn't used to be vulnerable to such. Given that I personally think rogues are still somewhat underpowered in Pathfinder as a class, they need whatever they can get.... (I love rogues! I've played three different ones in Pathfinder. But they do kinda seem left out in the rain. :( )

Round 1

Tomid and Hugo effectively splatter the heads of their targeted zombies. Zinny charges the zombie next to her a moment after Doc's bomb hits the wall behind it, clubbing it as hard as she can. On any living creature she would have broken its arm and most of its ribs, but zombies don't feel pain and it doesn't fall.

Zombie kobold (I8) - shuffles to I7 to attack Doc
Zombie kobold (M6) - shuffles to L7 to attack Hugo
Zombie kobold (N4) - shuffles to L4 to attack Tomid
Zombie miner (G6) - attacks Silas: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 : Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

When the dead stand up in front of the party, Silas watches from the back, a scream held in his throat. His grip tightens around the short sword in his hand and he starts to back away from the zombies they are facing...

...and backs right into a dead miner, snarling at him. Well, it looks like he is snarling, but really most of his upper lip has decayed, exposing just enough yellowed teeth to make his expression more menacing than he might have been while alive.

The scream escapes Silas' throat just as the zombie lunges for it, cuffing him good on the shoulder. "Abi, look out!" Silas shouts, not even knowing why, and in a sudden moment of stupidity (or courage) lunges at the zombie, stabbing it square in the abdomen and making to tear across its midsection.
