Game Master RPGGGM

With the heart of the Stolen Lands explored and the bandits who ruled there scattered, the long-contested realm finally lies open for pioneers and settlers to stake their claims.:
Amid the rush of opportunistic travelers, the PCs find themselves stewards over a new domain, tasked with the responsibility of guiding and guarding a fledgling nation struggling to grow upon a treacherous borderland. Yet the threats to this new nation quickly prove themselves greater than mere bandits and wild beasts, as the monstrous natives of the hills and forests rampage forth to slaughter all who have trespassed upon their territory. Can the PCs hold the land they’ve fought so hard to explore and tame? Or will their legend be just one more lost to the fangs of the Stolen Lands?

I feel like my backstory was lacking a little, so I'm adding bits and pieces I forgot about and correcting some mistakes. Also, there are a few crunch alterations I'd like to make if possible.

Fluff Additions:
Cormyn was raised a part of House Agrevel in Taldor, born with a silver spoon in his mouth. In fact, there was only one thing his parents did not give him: The freedom to make choices. He was taught swordplay, history, performing arts, and even magic by many renowned teachers. He didn't care that he liked what he learned, he simply yearned to be independent. So what he wanted most was to be able to use the skills he was being taught for something useful, not to sit in stuffy libraries all day like his parents. Seeing his rash tendencies, his parents closeted him ever more while trying to prune him for a noble life. He prayed to his personal patron Saranrae for some freedom, but his wish was granted in a way the Dawnflower would never think of doing. A few weeks before he came of age, his parents were brutally executed by zealous Iomadaens for allegedly consorting with demons. Cormyn left the next day, grieving but still with the world as his oyster. Amid his travels, he strove to uncover the truth of his parents' crimes, and it turned out that they were innocent. His search, however, was otherwise pointless, a sheer lack of any other information telling him only that something was being covered up. He wandered for many years after, honing his multitude of talents, spending most of his time in Absalom. Much like his dangerous business ventures in Qadira or his narrow escape from the Eye of Abendego, he took a job in Brevoy because it offered him something new and exciting to do, with a bit of gold on the side.

Altered Crunch:
I'd like to replace Arcane Duelist with Sound Striker (though I've had GM's ban Sound Striker, so I think an all-clear is in order here), replace Weapon Finesse with Flagbearer, and put my floating bonus into Charisma instead of Dexterity. Tell me if any of that is not okay.

Personality:
Cormyn is a gentle person, preferring to resort to violence only when necessary. That said, he can be free-spirited at times and goads people into fights on occasion. He masks his emotions when dealing with unfamiliar people and shows a modicum of respect to everyone until/unless he decides they do not deserve it.

Updated Theodric with his brief backstory and changed his last name to Daeric.

Theodric's Story:
Theodric was born in the great halls of the Daevin noble family. Sworn to House Medvyed, they were a family deeply rooted in the old ways, their castle sitting at the edge of the Gronzi fortress. Despite always having been fair rulers, they became enraveled in political maneuvers which led to uprisings in the village they oversee, the family falling victim to false accusations which coincided with other unfortunate events. The unruly mob eventually somehow became armed and organized. They layed siege to the castle and while defending themselves most of the Daevin family were slaughtered and the fortress was put to the torch.

Theodric was but a boy when his father called for the defense to the last man, but he instructed three to escape through secret tunnels that ran into the forest, Theodric, his mother and grandfather fled persecution taking refuge in the forest. Within the first month his mother had fallen ill, her will to live crushed by her grief and she passed away not long after. Theodric's grandfather ruled before his father and passed on lordship immediately when his son was old enough to take rule, giving him the freedom to spend extended periods of time in the wild where he felt most comfortable. He would spend the next decade teaching Theodric about living in the wild and the proper respect for nature, while still instructing himself how to conduct himself like nobility. Eventually he passed away of old age, Theodric intered him and took up his grandfather's blade and shield and moved west, leaving Brevoy behind altogether and heading towards the River Kingdoms.

The journey was dangerous and in a battle Theodric's blade broke, leaving him to fight with just a shield which would remain his primary weapon.

Question: DM how do you feel about multiclassing? I have a cleric in mind, but I want him to eventually develop sorcerer powers. Any issues?

Generally speaking, I don't have an issue with multi-classing. I just want the player to RP through the changes and have it evolve in the story. I don't like for a character to just one day start throwing around magic missiles and such with no mind or reason as to why this is happening now.

Flaws have to approved beforehand...

Hmmm will you be allowing the retraining rules? If not I'd start off having Azoth dual wielding.

havoc xiii wrote:

Initial answer - yes. But with the caveat that not all re-training will be allowed and anyone wanting to will have to rp the changes and how they go about them. We will need to work together on that.

Also, initially the group won't have much downtime because you will have some pressing objectives and then you will be out exploring, so it won't come into play until the campaign progresses a bit.

Hope that helps.

Yep I wouldn't try to retrain till something like level 7 dropping power attack for two weapon fighting and taking improved at 7. If we are chosen that is.

Happily submitting my Skinwalker Slayer - woodsman, guide, bounty hunter and occasionally thief. I am an experienced player, can easily post daily and am consistent. I'm looking for a long term game. Enjoy putting flavor and personality in my toons. Feel free to ask any questions :)

Fluff:

Riya was born to Baron Acteon Vlahos and Baroness Kassia Vlahos as the sixth child. She was often overlooked by her mother, and very little was invested in her. Her father doted on her and would always tell her she was "the most beautiful girl". Being the only girl born to a family of all males, she became competition to her mother. As she began to mature her mother became exceedingly jealous of her beauty and grew cold towards her. Kassia would try to isolate her as much as possible, making rumors of how unruly she was.

Riya was lonely most of the time until her father gave her a dog as a gift for her 12th birthday. The dog was an ordinary hound with droopy eyes and a limp. Riya named her Gyssa and saw her as the most beautiful creature she had ever beheld. Gyssa became her best friend and family. Kassia detested Gyssa and called her "an ugly mutt" just to make her daughter upset. Riya would always try to ignore her mother's words and tried to keep her happiness with Gyssa bright. But Kassia had other plans and happiness was not part of them. One day Kassia grew impatient with Riya for running late and struck her in the face repetitively with a wooden spoon. Gyssa jumped in front of Riya protectively and bore her teeth. Kassia grew enraged and killed Gyssa before Riya's eyes. She lied to Acteon claiming the dog tried to attack both of them. Riya buried her best friend that night. Although the rain poured, a fire sparked in her; a spark that soon became an engulfing flame. Feeling the grasp of control on her daughter slip, she started plotting ways to rid herself of the nuisance. Her mother found the perfect solution to restore her matriarchal power and began to manipulated her father by proposing the idea of marrying her off. Her mother began to take a special interest in the daily activities of her daughter, micromanaging as much as she could. Riya's name meant River and her mother often would say to her that "a river must be damed up or it will roll out of control". These words echoed in her mind.

She was seen as an opportunity for political advancement, and was groomed to be the perfect bride. In between her many tiring lessons of sewing, music, and cooking she would secretly take off with a cousin that she considered more of a brother than her own, and learned fencing from his instructor. As she matured into a woman Riya developed a rebellious nature fighting for her freedom in anyway she could. When she turned 18 she snuck out with her cousin to Restov dressed more like a commoner to blend in. One of her typical adventures was to go to a tavern in the lower quarter where there was always a colorful crowd. This time was a bit different. Upon reaching the tavern she was greeted by a young man she later learned was named Azoth, challenging her to a duel. She accepted in good fun, hoping he would be a challenge. She defeated him with ease but saw the great potential he had and struck a deal with him. She saw his hunger to learn the skills of sword fighting matched her own in freedom. If he showed her the city, she would teach him to fight properly.

Riya was instantly drawn to him the moment she laid eyes on him. He was constantly in her thoughts. The way he moved so freely haunted her through the day and she longed to see him again. She continued meeting him at the tavern and going on small adventures with him around town until one night her mother caught her sneaking out. By that point her relationship with Azoth ran deep and the two were deeply in love. As punishment, Riya was told to never see Azoth again. Baroness Kassia knew that Riya would try to see him again and timed her return just right so that her father would see what she had done. Acteon never fully believed Kassia but this event convinced him of his daughter's dishonor and disrespect towards her mother. For the first time in Riya's life, her father turned his back on her wounding her deeply. A marriage was arranged between Riya and the son of a wealthy merchant. An arranged marriage with a man rumored to have killed his two late wives. Kassia's plans seemed to be in motion... Or so she thought.

The night before the wedding, Riya escaped with her beloved cousin Tadin to the tavern with a bag full of her belongings, gold and the Gyssa's collar. She explained to Azoth the situation at hand and he proposed an even crazier idea. Her proposed to her and they were wed that night by a drunken priest of Cayden Cailen with Tadin as the whiteness along with other tavern goers that they knew. Before parting from Tadin, Riya scratched one last message with quill on parchment for her dear mother. "Mother, you could not dam me up. I have overflowed and now flood your lands. I am no longer a river of water but one of fire. You lit me ablaze so now you burn." Armed with her sword, her few worldly belongings and the last words to her mother, she began her journey with her new husband. Riya never imagined that by binding herself to Azoth that she would find great freedom and joy. Together the two travel towards the Stolen Lands carter in hand hoping to start their own lives in a land forged with their own hands.

Sovereign Court

Is there still time to submit characters?
Are Gnomes allowed?

If so, may I present Numalar Auritonius, the last of the House of Auritonius and scion of Lost Valdralee.

I originally generated this character for another online Kingmaker game which foundered pretty fast when the GM up and disappeared before the first encounter, and a replacement GM made it to the start of the second encounter.

I'll have to tweak things a bit as this was made for 25-point buy. I will probably also have to tweak some things for this campaign. He has 3 traits and a flaw (if you don't approve of the flaw it can be removed). Spell selection was based on using enlarge person as a buff for allied martials and that may need to change depending on the makeup of the party. Also could add some gear as he was built on 70 gp starting gold instead of max (120 gp).

Numalar is a Sorcerer with the Draconic (gold) bloodline and the False Priest (or Razmiran Priest) archetype. He is a gnome of the lava gnome subtype, and is middle-aged. His family history as was taught to him is probably pure fiction and his adherence to it would have got him in a lot of trouble if it weren't for the fact that he is a relatively entertaining guy. He believes (or acts like he believes) that he is descended from an ancient royal line originating in the First World, before the gnomes left the first world for Golarion. His "false" religion is a form of ancestor worship venerating the "Princes of Valdralee" (from whom he claims descent) and the city and culture of Valdralee itself.

He comes across as a pompous buffoon at times but has a good heart and a surprisingly strong will. He is determined to make up for what he considers a wasted life, by striving to achieve greatness.

For the record during the week I can easily post once or twice per day. I am in EST but my posts will usually be late at night as I work the graveyard shift and have internet access at work.

Also for the record: I have the PDFs of the Kingmaker AP and have read much of the earlier stuff. I had planned to run the game at some point but prefer the idea of playing it first. I have been playing RPGs for 35 years on and off so I have no problem "playing dumb" and avoiding meta knowledge when necessary.

EDIT: reconfigured stats and skills for 30 point buy.

Lots of good apps though so it might take me a little longer to really sort through them all. Plus it depends on work schedule those days.

@KingmakerDM: here is my submission, with back story, for Skrenglooet, the Half-Elf skald. Hope I got the numbers right in the crunch bit:

----------------------------------------

Skrenglloet (Half-Elf Skald)
Skrenglloet ("SKENG-thloit") is an oft-sullen exiled Half-Elf from the town of Jovvox in the River Kingdoms. He is on his own now and hoping to seek his fortune in the fractious kingdom of Brevoy.

Early Life of Character:

Skrenglloet is an exile from the town of Jovvox in the River Kingdom of of Mivon. He and his elder brother, Iwain, were raised in poverty by their mother, the widow Betrys.

Skrenglloet and Iwain both served in the local militia. Skrenglloet proved to be better than most with a longsword. Although he had no interest in Aldori swordlords. Mostly because he had more talent for rousing poetry that inspired his comrades. His poetry also caught the attention of Hyledd, a local merchant's comely daughter.

Hyledd and Skrenglloet soon fell in love and planned to marry, greatly displeasing Hyledd's brother, Cadell, who looked down on Skrenglloet as a lowly half-breed. Cadell tormented Skrenglloet beyond all endurance. Both privately and in public. Skrenglloet lashed out at Cadell in the Jovvox market one day. Cadell, an inept warrior, would have surely died at Skrenglloet's hand were it not for the intervention of both Hyledd and Iwain.

Much to his dismay, Skrenglloet was denounced by both Hyledd and Iwain for his violent outburst. He was soon publicly flogged for humiliating one of his betters, and then sent into exile. With neither ties nor future to the River Kingdoms, Skrenglloet wandered into the frontier town of Restov in Brevoy to seek his fortune there.

Personality:

Sullen to people he does not know well, Skrenglloet is slow to make friends after the events leading to his exile from Jovvox. Although slow to make friends, he is fiercely loyal to his friends.

Motivation:

Skrenglloet is hoping to make a name for himself in Brevoy, now that he has no future in the River Kingdoms. He wants to put his both talents for poetry and the sword to good use to make his fortune.

A lot of good competition here!

However, I am going to go ahead and withdraw from consideration. I like my character, but I think he could be better. Best of luck to everyone else!

Got slammed with Jury Duty! Civic responsibility.

Anticipation. . Arg

Tell me about it! I SO hope to get picked for this! Can't wait for announcement day!...

What time do applications close today. Trying to think of something good to toss in as I really like this AP, but so far all that I have been in have died before the second AP.

In that case i'd take something with healing spells, lots of con and a reason to be at the back.. ;o)

Archer Cleric or Paladin?

Character Submission
Bella of the Everlight
LG Warpriest of Sarenrae

Brief Story and Intention:

"I was born and raised in a temple of Iomedae, among the forests and rivers. We were a hard working community, set on helping one another. Although I have no large qualms about Iomedae and her followers, my heart has been given to another. It is the love a Sarenrae, given to me by a traveling priest, that I treasure above all. Her willingness to love all people regardless of race, given that they redeem their wicked ways, is true beauty. The followers of Iomedae do not understand.
I am Kellid, known for savagery and demon worship, and I have had a rough time within the church. It is Sarenrae who looks not at my skin, but at my heart. I will bring her love to anyone who wishes for redemption, and convert the misguided souls who follow Rovagug and the other evil deities."

Bella (originally named Belka), is a trustworthy woman with two prominent sides both filled with passion. One side is the merciful healer who will aid her allies and anyone who seeks redemption. The other side is a powerful warrior with the intention of slaying those who do not wish to be redeemed. She wants them to feel as little pain as possible.
Bella prefers diplomacy rather than combat, and would rather disarm an enemy than slay it. Still, she will not hesitate if her mercy is abused.
Bella is likely to multiclass into either paladin or cleric, but she will adapt and evolve as the adventure progresses.

The 11 Commandments:

1. You shall not lie.
2. You shall not harm the innocent.
3. You shall not murder.

Hope I am not too late. Planned on having this done earlier tonight, but discovered that the town meeting was tonight. Spent 3 hours listening to people debate whether to issue a bond for a new police/fire station.

Anyway, here is Pjiana Orlovsky - Human Druid(goliath druid)

The background on the character sheet is mostly complete, although it probably needs some editing. I did not have the time to get all the crunch done and will finish that up in the morning, unless it is considered too late, which I will understand.

Here is the background spoilered for easier reading.

Background:

Pjiana reached out and scratched behind Eragker’s large ear as she looked at the walls of the city before her. She had been in cities before, but it had been several years. Having grown up in the far eastern portion of Brevoy, in the shadows of the Icerime Mountains, Pjiana did not often travel to the more civilized portions of the land. As she thought back, she realized that she had not been in a community larger than a small village in nearly two years.

Two years ago, that was when she last saw her cousins at a gathering along the coast. She had sought to make friends with her cousins, but most looked at her as an outcast. The runt of the litter so to speak. Pjiana understood this, to an extent. Yes, she had been small at the time, but she knew there was more to a person than size alone. It was not so much the fact that Pjiana’s more “civilized” and socially in-the-know cousins looked down at her as an outcast. But, it was how her male cousins had treated her. First, they were friendly, inviting her to drink with them. That night though, Trignor Orlovsky, the second son of Damek and third in line to the patriarch of the family, sought to have his way with her. She fought him off and fled, but, not before he had torn her clothes. She told her mother what had happened that night, but, her mother told her that because of Trignor’s elite status, there was little or nothing that telling his parents would accomplish. So, Pjiana spent the rest of the gathering by herself or with her mother, likely further distancing her from her cousins. Pjiana also vowed to some day prove to the world what a lecherous drunk her cousin was, although Pjiana knew that this might not be something she could accomplish for many years.

Pjiana Orlovsky’s family, although of noble blood, was not been the most well off, particularly since the rightful King had disappeared a decade earlier. With the disappearance, the town of Skywatch had mysteriously closed its doors, and, thus, extinguished the trade that had formerly passed through Gialenwald, her village, on the way to Skywatch. With this her family, her mother, Kyian Orlovsky, third daughter of Baron Hienrek Orlovsky, and her father, a former hunter and trapper, had seen the Inn they owned slowly decline and eventually have to be closed. The family was never hungry as her father, Garen Vieker, despite being well on in years, still was skilled with the bow and at setting traps, but losing the Inn meant that what few luxuries Pjiana had formerly had were now almost nonexistent.

To catch food, and earn a meager living, Garen used traps. It was in one of these traps that Pjiana had found Eragker shortly after returning from the family gathering. The trap was designed to catch bears, for food and for the value of their pelts, but the strange elephant like creature had accidentally stepped in one, and when she found it, the creature was injured and exhausted from struggling. Undoubtedly if it were full sized, she at the time did not realize that the Deinotherium was not much more than a baby, as it was nearly as large as her, the creature would have easily ripped out of the trap. However, as it was still young, the creature was stuck fast. Unsure of what to do, Pjiana had run home, but her parents were not there, so, she had headed into the forest to speak with one of her father’s old traveling companions, a grizzly old man named Hareneth. She was never quite sure what to make of the man, but when it came to nature and animals, he seemed to know more than anyone else, even her father.

When Harenth heard what she had caught, he gathered his belongings and gave a shrill whistle. A few moments later, a huge brown bear came lumbering into the grove where Harenth made his home. Pjiana was sure she was about to be eaten, but instead, the bear came up to her and sniffed her as a hound would. After checking Pjiana out, the bear walked over to Harenth who scratched its ears. I see you have not met Grrnarg have you. Sorry about the lack of introduction, he is friendly, unless you get on his bad side.

Pjiana and Harenth then quickly made their way to the trap where Harenth calmed the strange creature and freed it from the trap. The creature quickly tried to run away, but with a broken leg, it only made it one or two steps before falling. It got up only to fall again, and again. Finally, Harenth once more calmed the beast and examined its leg. He then spoke some strange words, which sounded more like chirping birds than a human sound, and a strange greenish glow surrounded the creatures leg.
I have healed its wound and relieved some of its pain, but it will take many weeks for this creature to recover. Would you like to help bring it back to my cottage, I will not tell your dad you freed it from his trap.

Pjiana assisted Harenth with bringing the creature back. During the long walk, Harenth explained that he was a druid and that he and her dad had travelled together for several years before Garen had been smitten by a young lady, Pjiana’s mother, and had retired from the adventuring ways. Harenth had continued for a time before he too retired to the woods where he and Garen could meet to discuss nature, animals and their old ways. Pjiana found helping animals as Harenth did to be fascinating and asked if she could help to care for the strange elephant like creature that had been rescued. Harenth agreed, and so began Pjiana’s relationship with, and love of, Eragker.

Even after Eragker was healed, Pjiana began to spend more and more time with the old druid, learning about plants and animals. Over then next year, she spent more and more time away from home and wandering in the forests, and eventually up into the hills of the Icerime mountains. It was on one of these wanderings that she first saw the giants. She did not know what they were, but, they were huge. The first one she saw was twice the size of a human, and looked brutal and, likely, insane. She later learned it was an ogre, amongst the least of giants.

When Pjiana returned to her home, she told her father about the giant, and her father was outraged. He could not believe that she had wandered so far from the village, and ordered her to never again go there because of how dangerous the creatures were. Well, as one might expect, Pjiana immediately did the exact opposite of what her father ordered and a few days later, she was climbing the side of a small mountain. She had just found a small cave to hide in, when a huge boulder came rolling down the hill, just missing her. Looking up, she saw three towering humanoids, two, despite standing in a hunched position, well over nine feet tall, and the other, with pale bluish white skin, standing nearly fifteen feet. But, what most amazed her was how these giants fought, hefting boulders and tossing them at each other, some nearly the size of Pjiana herself. Pjiana stayed hidden in the crag watching the battle which took nearly an hour before the two smaller giants finally had enough and turn and ran, after which the pale giant made some type of a crude gesture which undoubtedly would have been inappropriate before lady giants.

Over then next year, Pjiana continued to spend time with Harenth and Eragker, learning about the druidic ways, but always her interest kept reverting back to the giants. Thus, while she became quite skilled in the ways of the wood, her methods were quite different than those of Harenth.

Finally, about a month ago, Harenth met with Pjiana’s parents. After a long discussion it was decided that the rather rebellious girl was simply going to get herself into trouble if she continued to wander to the mountains where creatures capable of eating her in one or two bites were not just a rarity. So, the three decided that Pjiana had trained and learned enough to follow in Harenth and Garen’s footsteps. It was at this time that news came of the Swordlords to the south recruiting to send adventurers into the Stolen Lands. Knowing that she had noble blood, if weak, the group decided that this wild and untamed land might be a perfect opportunity for Pjiana to learn more about nature and to get away from the dangers of the giants in the Icerime Mountains.

Thus, now Pjiana stood, with her faithful Eragker at her side, looking at the walls of Restov. A big city, but a city into which she must travel if she is to succeed for her parents, and, hopefully, bring honor to her mother after so many years of being slighted by her relatives.

FYI - I usually do not post with a new avatar until accepted into a campaign so that I can change it/delete it if not accepted.

Just realized neither of us gave you a personality.

Azoth:
Has a sarcastic and dry sense of humor that has more of an edge to those he is unfamiliar with. His wife Riya is able to reign in his sarcasm making her impervious to it. Riya is his world and he would do anything for her. Has a strong sense of justice and hates to see people taken advantage of.

Riya:
is kind and always acts like a lady except when threatened or a loved one is harmed. When that happens, the company of a feral dog with rabies would seem more favorable. She is an animal lover. Always tries to spoil her husband and thinks the world of him, he is the only one she trusts with all her heart. She has distanced herself from her parents and sees them as strangers she just happens to be related to. When she finds the body of a dead dog on the streets, she will always give it a proper burial out of respect and as atonement for not being able to protect Gyssa.

Updated crunch in profile. Everything should be finalized.

Sovereign Court

Just added a trope.
Should be all fine now

** spoiler omitted **...

I don't see the Goliath Druid working for this campaign. Feel free to change the archetype if you want though.

Hmmm - let me thing about it. Will find something.

The Dogs of War couldn't make it. All you get are the Kittens of Extreme Annoyance.

We also couldn't get the Prince of Darkness, but at 4 o'clock we can book Phil, the Prince of Insufficient Light! =)

Hmmm, not sure about this "Havoc", "Dogs of War" and "Prince of Darkness" that you all are attempting to summon to the Stolen Lands. My understanding was that we are to "settle" the land, not destroy it. Of course, I believe that making the land LE or CE are options, just not sure how that would work in the long run.

Wait, we could use Geb as our template for a fine nation. A nation farmed by zombies with their ghoul overlords, it could work.

The dogs of war better be well treated.

Well if we decide on an Asian theme we could eat the dogs... And the kittens.

Hot dogs?

For some odd reason, I don't think PETA would approve.
