Durgan can do a lot of things decently well.

Acrobatics is not one of them.

Let's see... his Acrobatics checks to jump would start at +1, then take a -5 ACP. At least he doesn't have the -4 for 20' speed (his base speed is 30' thanks to Travel Domain). But that is a net -4 anyway, which means that to make a standing high jump of 1' (DC 8) he needs to roll a 12+.

Now if he were to dip Order of the Hammer cavalier he could add his Str bonus to jump checks. But really Order of the Hammer is about getting Inspiring Flex (the most hilariously awesome power ever) at level 15, which is not a dip.

Yeah, but you just need a combined total of 10 feet.
And rolling below the needed 12+ would have no ill effect.
Say you roll good enough for 1 feet, and Illthir manages another 2 - with her base height and your base height stacked on top -
Dwarves are usually almost 4 feet and Half-Elves a bit over 5 feet.

So your combined towering height would already be almost 9 feet(she doesn't stand on your head, but the shoulders, I'd suspect)
Adding one more from your jump puts you at the height of the maze, and if Illthir manages another 2, she might get a small glance, at least on the layout.

But all that pales in comparison to Inspiring Flex, which I agree is hilarious and did not even know before. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I will SO build an NPC doing that into any campaign of high enough level.

Yeah, I think Fergus was being facetious. I can't imagine anybody actually enjoys games with Efreeti binding at L9 (or simulacrum sno-cone wish machines). Sounds terrible.

So much of the optimization stuff I see on the forums I take to be people just pointing out the flaws in the system, rather than actually intending to play that way. But I could be wrong. Maybe some people do that.

I have found there to be a certain segment of gamers who play 'competitively'. Some of this has to do with video games and thoughts of DPS (damage per second) and such. I suspect though that this sort of thing is a 'phase'.

Ah well. With low HP and no spells I'm a bit short of options. I considered just stepping up and stabbing up, but it would likely down me in one hit. (can't miss with +16 versus my 17 AC currently, and 2d8+5 takes 14 HP on an average roll.) - and it would be worse if not and he decides to strike me again while at 1 or 2 HP...

I also realized I won't find the wand of enlarge person, as scarlet took it with her. I believed there was a scroll, but the only one i found on me was shield, which I suspect is better than nothing.

While he is out cold, I would definitely have borrowed Zonkies "Darkwood Composite Longbow +1 (+3 Str) " which is a clear upgrade over my own nonmagical composite(+2 STR) one. :P

I dunno about how the others status is, but from my perspective, we'll have to hunker down and rest soon, and hope whoever we are opting to rescue is smart enough to hide and/or hunker down somewhere as well, because, otherwise this is turning into a TPK by attrition and escalation.

But maybe you guys still got plenty of juice, in which case don't mind me, I'll take the back position and try to pew-pew to help out because there's precious little I can reasonably do right now.

I'm with you. I was ready to hunker down and rest a while ago. This day has been an eternity.

Durgan is out of Channels and very low on spells. He probably can't do much damage to this thing. Will wait to see what everyone else does but it's not looking good.

We will probably have to take a nap after this one one way or another, hopefully not in the dirt.

Will crack open the emergency song rations for Illthirs next turn and hope we win in 3 turns. Also move to flank if possible, so we have some bonuses. And then we hope the critter is brittle :)

@GM - why would Durgan not have gotten a surprise round action? He made the Perception check. I only didn't post because he wasn't bolded. His Init was lower than the golem, but it's not like the surprise round ends when the golem acts. You jumped right to Round 1 before posting a Surprise Round tracker with Durgan bolded.

@All - Durgan might be able to fight this if other PCs keep healing him and cast buffing spells (not sure what Fergus has left). Durgan has a Wand of CLW others can use. Or we can retreat. The NPCs (who are higher level than us) are using Total Defense.

@GM - why would Durgan not have gotten a surprise round action? He made the Perception check. I only didn't post because he wasn't bolded. His Init was lower than the golem, but it's not like the surprise round ends when the golem acts. You jumped right to Round 1 before posting a Surprise Round tracker with Durgan bolded.

Lemme go back and double check when I get home and can do it on a bigger screen.

How many Channels and Lay on Hands does Serena have left?

If Dool has Haste, we might have a shot at this.
Also, Illthir's Glitterdust can affect golems, presuming she has any spell slots left.

Non-magical energy attacks (e.g. Alechemist's Fire) work well on golems.

Perhaps someone could shout for Mother Vorst...

No spell slots left I'm afraid. Just a bunch of utility scrolls on that front. Who wants Darkvision :p?

What is happening to me: I am asking for a pass for the next few days. On Tuesday, my father-in-law collapsed and went into heart failure. They revived him and took him to the ICU where he has been since. Yesterday evening, he was talking and sitting up and asking for water when we left visiting hours. We no sooner got home when they called to tell us that he had coded again (this is the fourth time in as many days). He is currently in cascading organ failure. We have him on dialysis to try to clear his kidneys and jump-start his metabolism, but right now, the only thing keeping him alive is the ventilator and the pacemaker they put in. I don't know how long this will go on, but I ask if I fall behind, you be understanding.
