Hey this thread doesn't have a recruitment page so I am posting here - If you want another PC here I like the straightforward nature of this campaign as well. I would be happy to play a nano to round out the group and I have some game mechanics stuff I am interested in checking out as well. No big deal if you three are keeping it small, but looks like fun and I want in! Obviously, happy to wait until after you deal with the dino haha
No, not a secret game. As you've read, this is a very 'slimmed down' game with mostly mechanics with some context to help make better strategic decisions. We are trying out the different rules. Right now, I'm trying out the long chases rule and Rel is my guinea pig. :)
We started this to get a better handle on the mechanics of the game and for me to get a better idea what a challenging, hard, etc. encounter looks like.
The two current players had discussed quitting the game after this combat but I believe it was mainly because players kept quitting on us. :(
I haven't asked 'Kellog' (from the main game), which is something I will do if we decide to continue the game.
As I've also said before, this game doesn't take up too much of my time so I'm happy to continue if there's interest.
You all three decide and let me know. No hard feeling either way.

Yeah it was mostly because there was only the two of us, but if more people are interested, I won't shy away.
Bedivere lowered his crossbow and armed his sword as he charged at the Dino to give a mighty swing.

Hey, where is this rule?
I looked in the past and did not find a ruling that would allow someone to move a short distance and attack.
If there isn't one, we should make one.

Glaive's "The Fleet of Foot" Fighting Move allows this - otherwise you can only attack in immediate range. I am not sure how I feel about this though, it makes combat feel pretty choppy.

Yeah, I think we need some sort of 'charge' so we'll do the following:
- the attacker adds a 2 step penalty to his attack; and- the attacker receives a 1-step penalty on his speed defense for the next round.
I need to start writing these house rules down.

Game on!
Bedivere charge (2 step penalty, +6), trained (+3), D 4 (12)= modified target # 15 and rolled 14, fail
Bedivere speed defense vs scout 1, trained D 3 (9): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5, fail
Rel speed defense vs scout 2, D 3 (9): 1d20 ⇒ 6, fail
Rel speed defense vs dino D 5 (15): 1d20 ⇒ 3, fail
Rel The Third
Struggling to get free of dino
Might: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Level 5, right? So not quite good enough. I guess the chase is over.
Despite his dire position in the beast's jaws, Rel attempted to make the best of the situation, using some rather impressive flexibility to reach around with his swordstaff to stab at the beast's eyes.
Speed attack with sword-staff. Base damage is 5. Attack flourish activated.
Speed: 1d20 ⇒ 3
His efforts, sadly, ended up looking more comical than heroic.

er... Rel is still running and the dino is getting closer but it actually caught Bedivere, not Rel.
Was that not clear enough?
Fabian Benavente
[dice=might]1d20
Bedivere winced as the dino clamped down on him and threw his body around like a rag doll, but he was able to get his hands into the beast's mouth and wrench it's jaw open, sending him flying like a thrown stone.
Bedivere, that was a free reflexive action and since you did break free, go ahead and do another action on this turn, although you probably dropped your blade...

Was that not clear enough?
Whoops! No, that was a serious reading comprehension failure on my part. In that case Rel will keep running to lead the dino further away, should we keep the roll of 14? If not, feel free to roll for him.
Rel heard a terrible screeching as Bedivere grappled with the dino, but the dino had hardly slowed so Rel didn't dare either. Heart and lungs pounding in time, he forged ahead.

Rel speed defense vs scout 2, D 3 (9): 1d20 ⇒ 1, fail GM intrusion (extra damage and 2 step penalty on next physical move)
Rel The Third
Embarrassed about his arrow induce fall, Rel struggled to a standing position and thanked Bedivere, "Much obliged for the help with the monster, friend!". Snapping off the arrow shaft, he began a lopsided jog back towards the entrance and the scouts that guarded it.
Speed roll to move a short distance towards the entrance. Usually an automatic action over even terrain, rendered difficult by GM intrusion. Trained in running.
Speed: 1d20 + 3 - 6 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 6 = 15
He set a decent pace and had soon found his stride again, though primitive arrows continued to whiz by.
Bedivere Longclaw
Hopefully the dino is down for a bit. Though him being flattened could be an asset to the hit-die...
"He won't be down for long! What do we do? Keep fighting or get into the Cave?" He yelled to his companion, as he grabbed up his sword and moved towards the grounded beast.
If possible to attack the same turn I pick up the sword, I would like to do that
+2 damage on hit, -1 step for weapons training

Rel speed defense vs scout 2, D 3 (9): 1d20 ⇒ 12, pass
Rel The Third
Dancing back and forth as he parried blows from the scout, Rel called to Bedivere over his shoulder,"Let's get inside, we can at least dispatch its guardians and catch our breath before we have to deal with the monster."
Turning back to the wild man just in time to duck out of the way of a heavy blow, he prepared for a leap. "Excuse me, noble sir, but I have a dinner appointment with your beast I would rather not keep."
Speed roll to do a flip over the scout and step just within the entrance. Since the scout will be resisting it I assume it's an action, even if it is just an immediate distance. If it isn't an action, assume I perform the flip as part of a showy attack.
speed: 1d20 ⇒ 12
Rel The Third
Rel was confused by the scout's odd behaviour, but he wasn't about to let them just gang up on his friends. "Hey, where you going? Come fight me! He did his well rehearsed "sword-staff intimidation dance #3", jumped forward, and leveled a heavy blow at the nearest small man.
Might attack on Scout 2, attack flourish is activated again.
Might: 1d20 ⇒ 16
The man never saw the blow coming, his attention focused entirely elsewhere once Rel had crossed the threshold of the entrance. As his foe fell Rel was more annoyed than anything, "I hate being ignored!"

BTW, you'll soon be joined by another PC to continue exploring inside the cave. Since we're not paying too much attention to RPing and consistency, he'll just be inside waiting for you guys.
Bedivere speed defense vs vs scout 1, D 3 (9), trained: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13, pass
Rel The Third
Seeing the giant beast rapidly approaching the entrance, Rel quickly dove back inside. He prepared his sword-staff to protect the entrance once Bedivere came through.
Prepared action to attack anyone trying to come through the entrance other than Bedivere. If the scout turns around Rel will attack, and if not he'll give the dino a bop on the nose if it tries to get at the tasty morsels inside.
Fabian Benavente
Not that we need much in the way of fluff but maybe I can be in a stasis pod or something around the corner.
I was thinking that you used up some sort of cypher that allowed you to go through the camp (scouts and dino) undetected.
You're all looking for this 'artifact'.
Let's do this: notice Rel and the fight and decide to help out so you can get 'rolling some dice' for this turn.
Center
That works for me! If you don't mind, roll cyphers for me please - feel free to assume I used 1/3 to get in here and just roll 2 if you want.
Center hears the commotion from the mouth of the cave and looks to investigate. He arrives in time to see Rel re-enter the cave mouth and Bedivere making a desperate charge, barely leading the T-Rex monster. As the scout's spear struck Bedivere's leg, Center witnessed the Glaive begin to falter. Center shouted "Taste fear, scout!" and struck out with a physical blast of Onslaught.
Onslaught: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Feeling the clarity of mind that comes when an Esotery connects, Center reaches deeper to force a bit of extra mental energy through the burst.
Use effort for extra damage, bringing physical damage to 7 and my intellect pool to 19
Center grimaces.
Just to clarify did scout 2 die, & scout 1 is at full health behind Bedivere? I just see scout 2 having 2hp on your sheet but don't see him on the map.

Just a note. Whenever 'effort' is involved in your rolls, whether it is for extra damage or providing an asset to hit, I will roll the dice since it is very 'tempting' for you guys to cheat by previewing the dice rolls and then decide to apply or not apply effort to the roll.
I realize this is accusing you guys of cheating but I see it more of preserving the uncertainty a bit longer and making the choice of whether to use effort or not a little bit more tactical (just like on tabletop). :)
I'll roll for cyphers and oddities later today.

Works for me, I was actually wondering about that just now. I knew you needed to activate effort to hit before rolling but I wasn't sure about how it would work for extra damage.
Rel The Third
Confused, Rel hopped in and out of the entrance a few times. Did it make him invisible? Was it forbidden or something? He spent a long moment pondering the mystery of why he was being ignored.
His deep thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of Bedivere struggling with the dino. "Oh yeah! It's the middle of a fight and all that. They'll be time for mysteries later."
Center shouted "Taste fear, scout!"
Rel jumped back as the bolt of energy flew by. "More mysteries," he thought, "but if he's not aiming at us I'll count him as a friend."
Shaking his head at how stupid he was leave to be leaving the shelter of the entrance, Rel charged forward to help his friend. He stepped towards the dino, twirling his sword-staff in elaborate, eye catching patterns. "Hey! HEY! Hey big guy! Look over here! A much nicer meal, don't you think? Don't you wish you didn't have my pal in your mouth so you could chase me?"
Attempt to Distract the dino to make it harder for the dino to attack Bedivere.
intellect: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Ooh, natural 20. If bedivere doesn't manage to escape on his down, a good Major Effect would be to have the dino drop him (having the targeted character drop an item it's holding is a suggested major effect from the corebook, after all ; ) ), if Bedivere is loose, then I'd suggest just having Rel be quick enough to get back inside before the dino takes a snap at him.

cypher: 1d100 ⇒ 49
Eye in the Sky
Level: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Usable: Handheld device
Effect: When activated, part of this device shoots 800 feet (244 m) into the air, projecting everything it sees onto a screen on the other portion of the device. The eye in the sky floats for an hour, all the while projecting what it sees.
table: 1d20 ⇒ 2, List A
cypher: 1d100 ⇒ 29
Blood Magnet
Level: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Wearable: Glove, wristband
Usable: Syringe
Effect: The user injects the biological magnet into his own blood or that of another living creature within close range. The hemoglobin of the injected creature gains strong ferromagnetic properties for one hour. Roll d100:
01–50 Attracts metallic objects to the creature (can move an object up to the weight of the creature within long range)
table: 1d20 ⇒ 19, List E
cypher: 1d100 ⇒ 48
Sweeping Glove
Level: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Wearable: Synth glove
Effect: With a gesture (an action), the wearer can make any creatures or objects within immediate range fly backward up to 20 feet (6 m), essentially putting them in short range.
Creatures affected suffer 2 points of ambient damage and are prone. The wearer can select which targets to affect. This glove functions for three rounds, during which time the wearer can perform this action each round.
Customize and add them to your PC sheet.

For some reason this game isn't showing up on my home screen - my "campaign" tab. I dot & deleted and it was on my tab for a few days but then it disappeared. I am in the Player & Character tabs for the campaign still. I added the feed to my RSS reader so that I won't miss any posts but let me know if you have advice for how to get this campaign back onto my home screen.

I just checked and you are indeed included both as player and character so I don't know what's going on.
Peruse the 'website feedback' board and, if you don't see a solution there, post a message asking for help. I have had the moderators post back or reach out to me about a problem.

He called to Rel "I fear I can't join you, but think of the feast we could have after the beast is slain!" and swung his sword down with both hands onto the Dino.
+2 damage, -1 step
[dice=Thrust]1d20
So Bedivere is being thrashed around by the dino so unless he gets away, there's an automatic attack and also a 2-step penalty on his attack. See the OOC of the turn recap.
I intend to recap later today.

Thanks for telling me which forum to check - I hadn't seen "website feedback" and was looking unproductively at other boards. It seems to be an open bug, once you hide a page you can't unhide it. I think it came up because I joined with both balanders and Center and I wanted to clear it from Balanders log. I guess you can't hide it from one without hiding it from both and now I can't unhide it.

I didn't find a solution that either of us could do. I'll keep my eye on the thread though. Like I said, I am following the RSS for this page - so I will see whenever you post that way. Also I can look at the "Messageboards" page and click My Campaigns - this comes up there. Thanks for offering though.

Game on!
Center onslaught, effort for damage, D 3 (9): 1d20 ⇒ 9, pass
Bedivere might defense vs dino, D 5 (15): 1d20 ⇒ 2, fail
Bedivere takes 2-step penalty and fails to connect
scout attack Bedivere or Rel: 1d2 ⇒ 2, Rel
Rel speed defense vs scout D 3 (9): 1d20 ⇒ 4, fail
dino attack Bedivere or Rel: 1d2 ⇒ 2, Rel
Rel speed defense vs dino D 5 (15): 1d20 ⇒ 11, fail
Bedivere Longclaw
My bad! Missed that part.
Feeling the full weight of battle, Bedivere crawled away from the Dinosaur and steadied himself to his feet, Gladdened that another has arrived to help.
Sword still in hand, he bolstered himself the best he could for an attack.
I think it's a step down for Defense roll if you're in a defensive stance? Maybe that's a specific rule...
Center
Center grins smugly as his first blast tears into the scout, "I'll be your end... Make your peace!"
Onslaught vs Scout: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Center focuses his attention on the heartbeat of the scout, he tunes out all other distractions until the heartbeat fills his senses.
The power of another onslaught builds up in him, almost unbidden. With barely a whisper, he releases the blast directly into the man's heart.
I did the math wrong the other day - total intellect would be (Onslaught 1 + Effort 3 - Edge 1 = 3) so I have 18 pool remaining not 19.
Rel The Third
Might defense versus dino.
Might: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Rel hadn't been quick enough with his ruse, and now he was food. He didn't have to be cooperative food, however. Whipping his sword-staff over his head, he brought it down hard on the monster's head.
Might attack versus dino. Activating Attack Flourish.
Might: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Again and again he whacked the giant head as he was shaken through the air, but the fearsome beast seem unaware of his struggles.
Center
Center felt the satisfaction that comes with a job completed. It had taken him a lifetime to hone the skills needed to fell a man using only his thoughts.
The roar of the Mechano-saur brought his focus back to the task at hand. It is going to take a bit more effort to bring down the big one.
Center glanced over to the two glaives and saw that they had taken quite the beating from this foe, he steeled himself and set about to the task of bringing this monster down.
Onslaught with Effort to Hit (what is the difficulty of the task to hit the dino? 3 or 4? If it is 2, then I use Effort for damage instead)- subtract three from Int pool bringing total to 15
Center realizes that bringing down this beast will require a number of hits, he gets into a martial position that allows him to focus all of his energy into the palm of his hand, as soon as he feels the presence of that force, he sends it towards the dino and prepares to create another.
