Mizunoken draws his sword with frightening speed and strikes at the shuttering knife.

Shan looks at the knife, and he reflects on his life. His fallen comrades. The injustice he has seen. He starts to believe that perhaps it's all truly not worth it. Perhaps Wei had it right. Perhaps peace can truly be found in self-sacrifice.
A final self-sacrifice.
He grabs the knife and starts to glare at it...deep in thought. To the rest of you, it looks like he may be thinking dark thoughts.
You see him slowly draw the knife to his throat. What do you do?
Next up is Tamerius. After that, Hawk. Lily has a held action. The knife will now act on Shan's turn.

Ah, that's right. You Asmodeus worshiper you.
Since Tamerius can't channel energy will you allow me to change my action and attempt to use the more powerful cure light wounds (at least more powerful on average - 6.5 vs 3.5) to damage this haunt

Mizunoken has seen this look in a man before.
He's gonna do himself in and there's not a damn thing I can do about subduing him. Have to get that knife out of his hand...
Assuming Hawk moves in to Shan's eastern flank, Mizunoken will take the long way around the table, flanking Shan from the west, and attempt to disarm Shan. Mizunoken considers his adamantine katana for a split-second, dropping it on the floor and drawing his nine-section whip.

Tamerius: Sorry, when you said channel, I thought you meant you would like to channel.
Hawk: I'll let you change your action. You deal 10 damage to the haunt.
Shan's hand starts to quiver and he lowers the knife, then drops it to the floor. It seems that he is no longer under the effects of the haunt.
We are out of initiative rounds now. There is still a dead body in the room.

How could have this happend so fast ? asked Tamerius seeing the hanging Wei. And How could a haunt be here, in a blessed temple of Korada ? Hawk, an idea ?
Bypassing the knife, he examined the body.

Easy there friend Hawk says to Shan You were about to take your own life
Did Hawk's knowledge roll give him any idea on why the haunt was around?
Does anyone know of anything, some rumor perhaps, that might explain why this haunt was here? It might be key to putting this to rest.
With that Hawk will take his time and start a very thorough search of the room, looking for the 'skeleton in the cabinet' if you will, looking for any clues that might suggest why a haunt was here.
Take 20 on Preception to search the room: 20 + 5 = 25

Shan's muscles begin to strain as he holds the knife to his throat. He stares out blankly, into the void.
"Seeing into Darkness is Clarity.
Knowing how to yield is Strength."
After the burst of positive energy, Shan slowly begins to fight against the possession and lower the knife.
"Use your own light and return to the source of the Light."
The dwarven monk finally let's his arms fall to his side, allowing the knife to drop.
"This is called practicing Eternity."
As his senses return to him, Shan looks around at his fellow Pathfinders. "Thank you friends. I have been preparing to return to the Tao for many years, but I did not want to travel there by my own hand."

Tamerius want to know for how long he's dead. A few second, a few hours, a few days ? Could his Heal check gave him a response ?
Is there a connection between the missing fingers and the death of this Wei ?
asked out loud Tamerius
May be must we warn the others people of this community to the death of one of their, don't you think ?

Mizunoken relaxes his stance.
"Welcome back, friend."
Mizunoken walks around the table to collect his katana and joins in the examination of the hanging halfling.
"Missin' all the fingers. Under normal happenstance, I'd say punishment for filchin'. From what I understood at supper, the whole finger thing is a test o' faith, and it's likely this one's failed it once too many."
Mizunoken considers their own run-in with attempted suicide.
"Then again, Shan here tried do him hisself in, too. Could be the room, in which case I'd recommend examinin' what needs examinin' and gettin' out."
This is a right mess... and looks dreadfully suspicious toward us.
"So, is honesty our best shield in this case? Tell 'em we're snoopin' around and found a dead guy in the kitchen they don't use? Do we keep our beaks shut?"

![]() |

Mizunoken instinctively enters a guarded stance, right hand crossing his hip to his recently-sheathed sword, upon the entry of the guards.
The scene strikes Mizunoken as rather strange.
They don't move to apprehend us. They remove his body and disregard the suspects as though suicide is routine. Or we're being observed.
Mizunoken will make no attempt to obstruct the aasimars from removing the body.

Missing all his fingers? He was only missing one at dinner right? Aikio looks around the room for the other digits. perc: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Is the haunt's 'immune to fire' common knowledge?

![]() |

Hawk confronts the guards.
The haunt made the halfling do this. Unless the haunt was caused by the death of the halfling?
Any idea as to why he would have done this? And what happened to his fingers? How could they all be missing.

![]() |

Aikio: I said that all of the adults were missing at least one finger, not that they were all missing exactly one finger. As for the haunt, if you know what a haunt is, then you would know that it can only be damaged through the use of positive energy.
The male aasimar says to Hawk, "Calm down, calm down. There's no reason to get worked up. Wei lost his fingers in the service of Korada. Korada has now eased his suffering. It is our way."

"Tis a shame, considerin' the family he left behind. When can we expect services in remembrance of his legacy and dedication to the faith? I imagine several of us'd like to be there for it."
I'll be blown away if they actually do.

Hawk exasperated "You don't seem to understand. This room is Haunted. Hawk tries to emphasize the H to make it clear he's not talking about something that is run of the mill spooky. Has anyone else ever died in here?

![]() |

Aikio has never encountered a haunt, but she shakes her head trying to loosen memories of class in the Grand Lodge. She also tries to remember whose hands were missing which digits, but the featherless fingers all look the same to tengu and she gives up.Thanks for clarifying on the fingers as well :) "I'll wait outside with Lilly," the fire wizard says.

As the room starts to clear out, Di says, "I'm sure a few words will be said in today's sermon. Otherwise, why mourn? He is in a happier place. It would be selfish of us to expect him to stay here when he is unhappy...As for whether or not anybody else has died in this room, I wouldn't know. I can't recall anyone else having died here."

![]() |

Lily shakes her head sadly, "How horrible. I am glad that you are alright, Shan. Should someone speak with his wife? She'll be devastated when she finds out!"
After a moment's hesitation, she smiles a little and leans down to Daisy, "No, sweety, I don't think it happened because the kitchen is jealous of the dining room table. Though... I suppose it's a possibility. Nothing else is making much sense here."

If it's realy Korada's way, I understand now why they are so secretive ! If could believed it's an evil temple !
Tamerius whispered to Hawk I'm not familiar with Good's faith, is it a courant behavior to test their follower so hard with self-mutilation or pain ?
than add for everyone
I think it could be interesting to attend the ceremony

'Interesting' is putting it mildly.
"Tamerius, I'm likely to agree to that notion."
Mizunoken remembers the grieving widow in the room.
"Bardzo mi przykro z powodu twojej straty. Daj nam znać, czy jest coś, co możemy zrobić dla Ciebie i Twoich dzieci."

![]() |

To Tamerius Well I know - or at least I thought - that Korada was of foresight, forgiveness, and peace. He is a force of good, dedicated to peace and contemplation. Korada spends his time meditating in the Dream Lotus on the plane of Nirvana, balancing the spheres of existence in his mind and conversing with other enlightened beings.

Lily moves in to comfort the widow, "I am so sorry for your loss, Liso. This must be so dreadful, and I cannot even fathom what you're going through!"
"Please, let us know if there is anything we can do to help. The Society is here to aid those who need it," she adds in her naivety.

Your sense motive reveals that she isn't taking it as badly as an average person would.
Liso regains her composure. "It's...it's alright. I know that he is in a better place. He was so distraught over being unable to complete the Kiss of Korada...But then again, he doesn't have to worry about that now. He's in Vantian, with Korada himself. Who could want more?"

![]() |

Why bother with the Kiss of Korada if you'll be seeing him regardless? More curious by the minute.
"Might'n I recommend we convene elsewhere. Somethin' about this room is a bit... inappropriate for this type o' talk."
