"What is that noise?" Douena calls across to the group among the skeletons. "Shut the doors! We can't deal with whatever else may be out there until we're done with Ieana!" She darts out of her alcove and is momentarily annoyed to see that Mahjik is between her and the double-snake-woman; then she dashes up behind him and touches him with Desna's luck. "Just like the cannibal witch," she tells him. "Take her down!" It would put her in the area of effect, but it's not an ongoing aura effect (although there's a duration for people, like Pezock, who are affected by it). If it does it again, however, Douena will be in range.

Douena scurries out of the alcove and around the dry fountain to instil some luck in Mahjik. As she reaches that point, Yarzoth's chanting crescendos and 1d3 ⇒ 1 shape begins to material behind Mahjik. In an instant, a massive snake is there and it snaps at Mahjik.

Snake bite at Mahjik, flanking, smite: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 2 = 21 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) - 1 + 2 = 4
Mahjik Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 -- pass

It sinks its teeth into the back of Mahjik's shoulder, but it does not get enough venom into the wound to affect him too adversely.

Yarzoth bite at Mahjik, flanking: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 2 = 32 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Mahjik Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 -- fail
Poison damage: 1d2 ⇒ 2 Str

However, while Mahjik is distracted by the snake, Yarzoth herself whips her head forward and bites his arm. Her teeth sink in more deeply, and he can feel the venom course through his arm and spread throughout the rest of his body, weakening him. She then backs up a bit (5-ft step to A 17).

Next Up: Lorenz, Makoa, Skeletons, Urza, Pezock, Gibbering Mouther, Mahjik, Douena, Yarzoth and Snake.

Skeleton #4 broken scimitar AoO at Lorenz: 1d20 ⇒ 1 -- miss

As Lorenz bends over to grab his flail, the remaining skeleton attacks him, but it swings too high and the blade passes well above his bent back. Lorenz swings as he rises, and his flail smashes through the skeleton's ribcage, sending splinters of bone flying. Although it has no ribs left, the skeleton manages to stay standing.

Makoa moves up closer to Yarzoth and her image and swings at them. Both of them duck, but one is still in the axe's path. The axe passes straight through it, and the image vanishes. The attack was a miss, but missed by less than 5, so automatically takes out an image.

It's a move action to close each door, plus you also have to move to the other door, so you can't get both closed in one turn.

Urza moves into the antechamber and hurriedly closes the south doors, blocking off the strange mouthy creature from entering.

Pezock looks around, making little babbling noises, and spinning in place.

Urza hears something slap up against the other side of the doors just as Pezock seems to regain his senses. Suddenly, that massive screeching/babbling/singing noise starts up again.

Those who have already passed their saves against it are now immune for 24 hours. Douena and Pezock, however,...

Navior:
Going to go ahead and roll this 1d100 ⇒ 98 -- and here's why:
1)Assuming Mahjik doesn't move, is it a roll-off between her attacking the snake or him, or does the snake count as closer since it's not on a diagonal?
2)The only thing in Douena's hands right now is an unloaded sling. Does she try to hit the closest creature with it as an improvised weapon (as I presume she'd do to herself had she rolled 51-75), would she load it and then attack with it as a ranged weapon, or would she drop the sling and draw her staff to attack in melee?

[ooc]EDIT: Okay, Mahjik just posted, so that question's avoided. Just the question of how rational one can be while confused. I know "do damage to self" doesn't allow any thought, but I don't know whether "attack nearest creature" allows her to realize she'll avoid AoO and have a chance to actually hit by changing weapons.

Thanks Douena! Bit of Luck for the win! :D

Round 4, Initiative 24
AC 21; HP 24/32

Mahjik shakes himself free of the snake's bite, smarting as the two sets of puncture wounds drizzle a steady bit of blood. He follows after Yazoth, intent on stopping her right now. He follows up with a similar thrust with the left, but there's not nearly enough impact on the thrust to connect properly.

The way I see it, she still has some control of her actions. After all, she is still able to defend herself if attacked. What it does do is cloud her ability to determine who is the enemy and who isn't (and possibly makes her hit herself in that confusion). As such, I think she can decide how she attacks.

Douena cringes under the cacophony coming from behind the doors; it seems much louder than last time to her, and the babble of voices and sounds confuses her. Lorenz swings at the last skeleton, but unfortunately is unable to connect with it.

Makoa tries to leap over the blood and follow Yarzoth. Unfortunately, he doesn't quite reach the edge of the dais and lands in the blood. It's warm, has if it has just flowed from a living creature. It's not very deep, however, so Makoa remains standing as it splashes around him. The depth does not reach his knees. Apart from its unpleasantness, it does not seem to have any immediate effect on him, and does not prevent him from attacking Yarzoth. Her raised position over him means that he cannot reach her throat, but he does bite into her leg, tearing out a chunk from just above the ankle. She screams in rage.

Mahjik needs to get to Yarzoth first, which requires getting over the blood. Wading through it would slow him down, so he'll need to jump it. He can make get over the thin portion (DC 10) automatically, but the wider portion (DC 20), he needs to make a check for.

It seems the snake can indeed swim. As Douena takes off across the room, the snake slithers after her and into the blood. However, at a call from Yarzoth, it turns and swims through the blood to the dais and towards Mahjik (double move to D 15).

Ah! Looking at my last post, Makoa's bite damage is one damage die to high! It should have been a d4... :(

Urza steps up to the skeleton. His first attack misses, but with the second, his claw scrapes across the skeleton's head and over its empty eye sockets. Unfortunately, it barely scratches it.

Pezock shakes his head and snarls. He moves across the room towards the dais, pulling out his dagger along the way. He stops just short of the blood (D 18) and throws the dagger at the snake.

"The river of blood is safe right?" Urza goes to D17 and casts Acid Splash against the summoned snake.
Acid Splash: RTouch, fire into melee

It doesn't make an effective difference to the numbers against Mahjik, but he should be flanking Yarzoth with Makao

Round 7, Initiative 24
AC 21; HP 14/32
Str 12(13)

Mahjik keeps his rhythm going - punching left then using the momentum to follow-up with a spinning elbow that leaves a painful bloody trickle on Yarzoth's jaw.

Attack, flurry 1, power attack 1d20 + 4 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 1 + 2 = 14 damage 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 2 = 6
Attack, flurry 2, power attack 1d20 + 4 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 1 + 2 = 21 damage 1d6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 2 = 5

Pezock shrugs in response to Urza's question and grimaces a bit when Urza moves into the blood. Urza fires off a glob of acid, but the shot doesn't go high enough and impacts with the altar.

Pezock Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Pezock steels himself and leaps past Urza, landing just beside the snake.

Pezock sawtooth sabre at snake: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 -- hit
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

The tengu swings his sword and cuts deep into the snake. It hisses in annoyance.

It seems I did miss your saying that previously. However, it wouldn't have been possible because of the massive statue. Just like round a corner, you can't take a 5-ft step diagonally if there's an obstruction. Basically, it forces him to pass through Yarzoth's square.

Mahjik tries again to get Yarzoth, but she ducks away from both attacks.

Next Up: Douena, Yarzoth and snake, Lorenz, Makoa, Urza, Pezock, Mahjik.

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 3

The skeleton threat dealt with, Douena looks up at the suddenly-crowded platform around the altar. "I can't do anything with everyone in the way up there," she complains loudly. She glances back at the double doors, considering opening them and finding out what that thing was out there making all the noise. "Might as well get my light first," she decides. "Get a clearer look." She hops over the river of blood and goes to pick up her glowing bone chip. Acrobatics vs. DC 10 for standing long jump 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22; Move to -C 22; Pick up bone chip

Mahjik Fortitude vs poison DC 19: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 -- fail
Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Str.

Yarzoth concentration to cast defensively: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26 -- success

As Douena darts across the room into the northeastern alcove, the snake suddenly vanishes. Mahjik continues to feel weakened as the poison spreads through his body. Yarzoth's eyes narrow and she incants a few words and motions with her hand. Suddenly a massive booming sound erupts from the southeast corner of the altar.

10-ft-radius spread centred on southeast corner of C 15, affecting Mahjik, Makoa, Urza, and Pezock.
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3 sonic.
Mahjik Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 -- fail
Makoa Fortitude: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 -- pass
Urza Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 -- pass
Pezock Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 -- fail
All four take the full damage, Mahjik and Pezock are also stunned for 1 round.

The sound is so loud it physically hurts, and for Mahjik and Pezock, who are right by the source, it's disorientating. Pezock's sword drops to the ground and Mahjik loses hold of his lantern. Yarzoth steps back into the corner (5-ft step to B 13).

Next Up: Lorenz, Makoa, Urza, Pezock (stunned), Mahjik (stunned), Douena, Yarzoth.

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

Lorenz's face pale with disgust, he steps to the side into the blood and carefully pulls one of the new arrows he'd found, nocks it and fires at Yarzoth.

Fire magical arrow (1 of 7) at Yarzoth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Couple of comments: Lorenz isn't going to risk jumping across the blood so he'll just step into it with a move action. I don't know if there are moving penalties or not so while he'd prefer to move to B21, if he can't take more than one step, he'll stop in C21 instead.
Also, I don't know if Urza identified the magical arrows he found or not, but there are 7 arrows of a kind that Lorenz marked with a circle. He's going to use one of them. So whichever of the arrows that were found in the Devil's stash that had a quantity of seven, he'll be using one of them. I don't know if it'll make a difference or not.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

Cornered prey is the most dangerous, but Makoa knows his pack is close and the ringing in his ears infuriates him even more.

5ft step to B-14 and attack.
Raging Power Bite:1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 - 1 = 25
Damage:1d4 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 3 = 11

Moving through the blood counts as difficult terrain, so it costs Lorenz an extra 5 ft of movement to reach B 21, which he can easily do.

Lorenz wades across the river of blood and emerges on the other side. Fresh blood drips from the bottom of his legs. He fires off one of the magical arrows, but unfortunately, even its magic is not enough to help the arrow hit (due to soft cover from Makoa). It lodges in the back wall above Yarzoth's head.

Next Up: Makoa, Urzas, Pezock (stunned), Mahjik (stunned), Douena, Yarzoth, Lorenz.

Ninja'd by Makoa!

Makoa steps forward and sinks his teeth in the neck he's been trying to reach for some time now. Yarzoth screams in agony as he rips away a chunk of flesh. Yarzoth is starting to look quite badly injured.

Next Up: Urza, Pezock (stunned), Mahjik (stunned), Douena, Yarzoth, Lorenz, Makoa.
