In a different campaign...

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Ah, Viper. The assassin? He lives out of town, on a piece of empty farmland. 5000 acres, ruined by a battle about 50 years ago. Can't give you any more specifics than that, he moves around a bunch on that area. Coordinates included in this message.

Male Halfling Clerk of Abadar 7 | HP 29/45 | AC 29/24/20 | Fort +6, Ref +8, Will +12 | Init +4 | Perception +7 | Agile feet 8/8 | Inspiring command 8/8

Knowledge (geography)!: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15 and Knowledge (history): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Chimon goes to an apothecary recommended by his aging supervisor. He purchases four bottles of an emerald green antitoxin.

He then regroups at Myrial headquarters. He informs the team that, "'Shadowmaster' believes 'Viper' lives somewhere on a forsaken ranch outside town. I thank Abadar that the priest of Torag does not also have an obtuse sobriquet."

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Chimon doesn't know a whole lot except that it was the site of one of the deciding battles between the Chelaxian Empire's colonial force that founded Myrial, and the last of the indigenous people's that had settled here and were run out when the city was built. It was essentially the culmination of a 25 year genocide, the now extinct barbarian tribe's last stand. By the end of the battle, their forces had been slain to the last man, fields drenched in blood and rendered unusable.

"Well... Let's find him through more conventional means..." says Korak "But first! Let's find a way to deal with poison. Assassins aren't known for playing fair."

I suggest we split 750gp among ourselves to get a wand of delay poison. It's about 188gp each.

Anyway, after that... I take 10 on Survival to try and track the assassin (total 20 + Scent)

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Or you could get the significantly cheaper Antitoxin.

Male Halfling Clerk of Abadar 7 | HP 29/45 | AC 29/24/20 | Fort +6, Ref +8, Will +12 | Init +4 | Perception +7 | Agile feet 8/8 | Inspiring command 8/8

I don't have 188 gp. Actually, I just noticed I only had enough for two bottles of antitoxin.

"Sorry, but I have already procured protection for myself. You three must find your own solutions."

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Bruiser 7 - Wound 12; HP 60[74]; AC 22[23] (tch 20[18]; ff 20[21]) (+2 w/ Mage Armor); CMD 32[32] (+2 vs Grapple; +4 vs Disarm); DR 3/-; Fort +8 [+10], Ref +9; Will +9 [+11]; Darkvision, Scent, Perception +13; Sense Motive +18; Initiative +5

Anti-Toxin is nice... But the wand of Delay Poison makes you basically immune to poison for 1 hours... It costs the same as 1 Anti-Toxins, though. :/

Male Halfling Clerk of Abadar 7 | HP 29/45 | AC 29/24/20 | Fort +6, Ref +8, Will +12 | Init +4 | Perception +7 | Agile feet 8/8 | Inspiring command 8/8

I've always thought delay poison was a pretty s!%!ty spell. But I can prepare it for you three this in-game afternoon if you want.

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Bruiser 7 - Wound 12; HP 60[74]; AC 22[23] (tch 20[18]; ff 20[21]) (+2 w/ Mage Armor); CMD 32[32] (+2 vs Grapple; +4 vs Disarm); DR 3/-; Fort +8 [+10], Ref +9; Will +9 [+11]; Darkvision, Scent, Perception +13; Sense Motive +18; Initiative +5

It's actually pretty good, as it makes you "immune" to poison for 1h per level. However, you probably have better spells to prepare, so don't worry. Thanks for the offer, anyway.

Male Halfling Clerk of Abadar 7 | HP 29/45 | AC 29/24/20 | Fort +6, Ref +8, Will +12 | Init +4 | Perception +7 | Agile feet 8/8 | Inspiring command 8/8

"Immune" until the duration ends, yeah. I guess we could use it to just delay your saves until Chimon can prepare lesser restoration, then have him spam it on you when you guys need to start rolling.

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Bruiser 7 - Wound 12; HP 60[74]; AC 22[23] (tch 20[18]; ff 20[21]) (+2 w/ Mage Armor); CMD 32[32] (+2 vs Grapple; +4 vs Disarm); DR 3/-; Fort +8 [+10], Ref +9; Will +9 [+11]; Darkvision, Scent, Perception +13; Sense Motive +18; Initiative +5

That's the basic idea... Which is why I added the quotation marks on the word "immune". But don't worry. We can make do with the anti-toxins.

Anyway... As much as I like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Skull Girls, I really gotta go to bed now... See you guys later.

It's about 10 miles outside of town. It'd take you about 3 and a half hours to get there walking, or faster if you rent a horse or something. About an hour and a half if you Hustle for an hour, or an hour and 15 if you Hustle on a horse

Casting locate object to find poison (or a vial of poison, if that's too general).

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Chimon doesn't detect anything.

However, given this area is nearly 8 square miles, that's not unexpected.

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

The area is about as expected, overgrown farmland, barren in places, with deep weeds in others, and a few scraggly trees. Further towards the center are the remains of some sort of orchard, a sickly looking pseudo-forest, bearing no fruit.

Run's mechanics aren't based on fatigue as far as I know. But actually, if you guys kept your horses . . .

Chimon frowns. "I detect nothing yet. But Talryn, may I borrow your steed? Korat, follow after me." If the warrior agrees, Chimon climbs onto the horse, making a mental note to give Talryn a copper in recompense when he returns, and gallops off to the north.

A light horse can run for 17 rounds before it needs to make a Constitution check. Then to speed this up, here are the checks for Korak's and "my" horses.

Spoiler:
Chimon's: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Korak's: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Chimon's: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Korak's: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
When Chimon sees Korak's horse lagging behind, he signs, "Dismount," and does so himself.

"Now, this is going to sound weird but . . . would you carry me? Just as long as you can run, and then I will run as far as I can on my own."

Chimon's personal run checks:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
So on the horse, that's 3800 feet. Then add another 2240+(40*Korak's number of successful rolls)ft, then add 1680 ft. from Chimon's run. Accounting for the curved edges at the end of the spell that's . . . about 0.3 square miles! Giving us a 0.4% chance of finding the guy! Really.

Female Human Sorcerer (fey bloodline), level 7; AC: 17; Hp: 41; CMD: 17 ; Fort: +10 Ref : +10 (Evasion) Will: +13 (aura of courage, strong willed) ; Perception +5; Concentration +20, Init +2

To Talryn after seeing Korak carryng Chimon: If somebody ask, I don't know those two

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

1d100 ⇒ 32

The group finds no poison, and loses their dignity.

I was joking about carrying you, you know... -.-'. The spell only lasts 6 minutes, so it wouldn't make much of a difference in a 8 sq. mile area. ><'

"Yeah... No. I'm sure I can carry you, but... No. Just... No."

Besides, I don't think I'd be able to carry the whole party... And splitting the party is never a good idea.

I take 10 in Perception/Survival/Stealth... Total 22, 20 and 26, respectively.

I just wanted to find the guy . . .

Chimon nods and pats the tiefling's knee. "It's okay. We will find another way." He gets out one of his antitoxins and drinks it down.

"I doubt we can lure Viper into the open in daylight, all together like this. I propose that Talryn walks transects through the farmland. He should make copious noise. We three will follow sixty feet behind him, moving quietly and watching for sign of our quarry."

Take 10 in Perception and Stealth as before, for 17 and 17. Or if Talryn would rather Chimon be the bait, he can take off his armor and do a bit better.

Male Oni-Spawn Tiefling Bruiser 7 - Wound 12; HP 60[74]; AC 22[23] (tch 20[18]; ff 20[21]) (+2 w/ Mage Armor); CMD 32[32] (+2 vs Grapple; +4 vs Disarm); DR 3/-; Fort +8 [+10], Ref +9; Will +9 [+11]; Darkvision, Scent, Perception +13; Sense Motive +18; Initiative +5

I know. But a 0.4% chance isn't worth splitting the party. Korak is unlikely to accept carrying a grown man unless absolutely necessary (e.g.: if you fall unconscious or we if need to escape ASAP).

If Korak sees anything unusual, unnatural or otherwise suspicious as well if he detects any sign of intelligent life, he will drink his Anti-toxin.

"I don't feel comfortable doing this..."

In no time at all, Talryn's armor mists into ash and disappears.

"...But any threat to the Mandrigal must be eliminated. I'll leave my weapons with you Korak. I can make do without them for a time."

Before departing, he spends a moment and focuses deeply.

I can rearmor almost instantly and have a weapon ready in case something happens. I'm also a lot tougher even without armor so long as I don't go from 100% to dead. I can also get out of dodge easier without needing to cast a spell. No Chimon, rest easy. Talryn Ironflesh will not die today. Also your stealth is better than mine.

Talryn goes tromping through the farmland.

It quickly becomes apparent that doing so unarmored is not the greatest idea.

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

2d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 7) + 5 = 16

A nasty looking bear trap, larger than usual with wickedly curved teeth closes around Talryn's leg with a *SNAP*.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

It drips a nasty yellow looking poison into the wound when it closes.

1d2 ⇒ 1

Talryn takes 16 damage and 1 Dex damage.

How do you proceed? Your leg is caught in a bear trap. You need a DC 23 Disable Device check, DC 25 Escape Artist check, or DC 29 Strength check to get free.

In reality however, I'm pretty f!!@ed. DC 29? Holy crap. Guess I'll try to escape artist.

Talryn tries to wiggle out.

Escape Artist: 1d20 + 3 + 4 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 4 + 12 = 30

Much appreciated Jo

"Lets just find where this guy lives and sack the place."

Talryn rearmors in a flash, but this time has accompanying spikes in various places.

"I've been poisoned by the way, but it shouldn't be a problem...yet."

Male Human Monk 5 (Qinggong Master of Many Styles from the Sacred Mountain)/Fighter (Brawler) 3

Since 2 rounds have passed, two more rounds of poison.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

2d2 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

2 more Dex damage, for a total of 3 Dex damage.
