Oops! Sorry, I thought Elliander's post was Francis' for some reason. Francis, you only need to make that Will save I mentioned if you choose to engage that mummy with a ranged attack. If you stay back out of sight, no need for a Will save.

Francis stows the healing wand for the moment and pulls out his own flask of alchemist's fire. Moving over to the pit he holds it.... "How much longer will the pit last? Maybe we could just dump oil on it to keep it burning?"

Does anyone have oil?

Oathday, the 29th day of Gozran, 4714 AR
Weather is mostly clear and very warm, with gusty winds coming from the north.
One hour after midday

----------------------------------------------

Hasina stands ready to step forward and attack the mummy when the spell expires and the monster rises back up to the floor level (Ready action). Soumral runs around the pit to join Rediz, so she can get the creature into her line of sight – the elven wizard shakes off the fearsome aura the undead monster radiates – as Elliander shakes free of his paralysis and joins them. The mummy continues its ineffectual scrambling, unaware that the spell is nearly about to end anyway. The trio on the far side of the pit unleash their attacks, one with a javelin and two with flasks of alchemist’s fire. Elliander’s javelin seems ineffective against the mummy, but the fire splashes on the very flammable wraps of the undead monster, and it groans in pain and terrible anger!

In that moment, Soumral’s spell comes to an end and the mummy rises up in front of Hasina and Francis, who just at that moment managed to wrest an alchemist’s fire from his belt pouch. Hasina attacks instantly, in the moment before Rediz’ alchemist’s fire explodes on the mummy’s exposed back. Though slightly singed by the fire, Hasina swings her heavy flail and shouts a warcry, but the creature ducks under the blow and reaches forth to choke the life from her, its strong hands nearly breaking her neck (28 damage + Hasina, give me a Fort Save)!

--------------------------------------------

I forgot you can’t stand right up against the edge of the pit, as it has a sloped edge that could drop you down in the pit unless you passed a Reflex Save at +2 to the roll. I figured nobody wanted to risk that, so I’m going to retro a bit and rule that you needed to get to the far side of the pit in order to have any kind of line of sight (it had cover, but to no avail against your rolls.) So Rediz, your ‘first’ throw actually takes place in Round 5 (or beginning of Round 6, before the mummy) instead of Round 4 (which was spent moving 40’ around the pit to your current position). Elliander and Soumral spent their Round 5 moving around the pit as well, to join Rediz on the far side. Your posted attacks then took place in Round 6 (Rediz on Round 7, prior to the mummy) as the pit spell effect ends on Soumral’s action in that same round. Sheesh… Hope that all makes sense! Everyone can post your actions for Round 7 (Round 8 for Rediz) – and don’t forget to roll 1d6 for your alchemist’s fire, Soumral and Rediz. It’s still buring for this round. Hasina, I also need a Fort Save from you.

If the Mummy was already at the top again I would definitely used precise bombs to spare any adjacent allies from splash damage. I would also like have used my powerful bomb to avoid another attack on Hasina. But thats probably too muh of a retcon.

No worries Rediz, I can retcon a bit (it's only fair!) You want this bomb to be your 'previous' attack? Or did you have something that'd do more damage?

Yes that bomb would have been my previous attack as it would hopefully kill the Mummy.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

Good news is that Hasina gets 1 HP back, but the bomb doesn't quite kill the mummy - though it's in bad shape. I'm going to take your previous attack with the alchemist's fire and figure that's your attack this round - if it's even needed, the others might kill the mummy before your action comes back around.

Male Human (Aren't we all? Folks need to remember that!) Epic Level GM (35+ years!)

So by my count, Soumral has used 1 (of 2) flasks of alchemist's fire. She can use her wand again in Round 7 and let Rediz get into the pocket of her Handy Haversack as a move action to grab her last flask and chuck it in Round 8, just prior to the mummy's attack. Or she can use the last flask herself in Round 7, in which case Rediz would need to use another bomb - if the mummy is still alive on his action.

Rediz has used 7 (of 9) bombs this day, according to my tracking.

Elliander rounds the pit and throws one of his javelins. It only seems to nick the mummy in the side without really stopping it. When the pit spell ends and the monster is elevated back up, the duskblade is a bit away from it, but he can at least approach it now.
Elliander squeezes past two sarcophagi and draws his sword again. He goes straight for the mummy’s back as it is fighting Hasina.

----------------------------------------------

Elliander wastes no time, moving in swiftly behind the mummy as he uses his arcane magic to charge Biter with an electric jolt that he hopes will put the monster down quickly. The blade strikes true, and the undead creature arches backward as the magical electricity arcs through its desiccated body, setting its wrappings on fire as it falls to the floor unmoving.

With the danger now past, the adventurers are able to take a closer look around. The duskblade recalls sensing a magical aura somewhere in the campsite that appears to have been hastily abandoned in the southeast corner of the large chamber. The item turns out to be a simple-looking ring concealed within the folds of a bedroll. There are a few scraps of random clothing, and some basic bits of equipment that were left behind as well. (Give me a Survival check to learn a bit more about this campsite.)

The sarcophagi turn out to be empty of bodies (save for the two that held the mummies), though five of them hold masterwork falchions – apparently the weapons of the warriors that were entombed within.

There is nothing else of value to be found (save perhaps of intellectual value to those with an interest in science and math), but Soumral adds the rare treatises and manuscripts she found scattered in the broad hallway leading into the place.

There is an archway leading north, and a door is glimpsed where the corridor beyond bends to the west. In the southern section of the large room, a stairway leading up can be seen at the western-most edge of the chamber.

Hasina is badly wounded, but still standing – though she feels a terrible, rotting sensation trying to take hold within her…

--------------------------------------------

Nicely done, folks! Was a bit worried about that combat for a round or two! Hasina, I still need a Fort Save from you. I’ll update the map this evening sometime, as I can’t do it while I’m at work, but you can see the archway and the corridor to the north, and the stairway leading up is directly west of where Soumral and Rediz are standing.

Rediz uses his own wand to heal the wounds of the injured Hasina, and she has only a few deep bruises remaining around her neck when the wand is put away. Elliander looks over the campsite, but spots nothing unusual, and he senses no more magic in the area. Examining the ring, he identifies it as a Ring of Feather Falling, based on the magic aura, and a few distinctive markings carved into its surface.

There is a staircase directly to the west leading further up into the large structure, and a corridor to the north, exiting the room.

The map is updated. Any further healing? Elliander still has a few wounds, while Francis and Hasina are within a few HP of their maximum. Let me know what direction you’re headed and if anyone else is searching the campsite (Survival check.) Anyone claiming the ring?

Elliander cannot tell who camped here before or for what purpose they did it. Satisfied he at least identified the ring they found, he puts it on his left ring finger until someone else claims to have better need for it.
When they have gathered up all the other items worth taking, the group seems to hesitate. Elliander wants to go find the compass right away, but understand Rediz’s cautions.
“Well, if we’re to go looking for more troubles first, maybe heal me up some too, if you have charges left in that wand?” he asks Francis.

The duskblade keeps concentrating on a Detect Magic spell (renewing it regularly) as a way to warn him of lurking monsters, magical traps or more items worth looking at. If the falchions are too bulky or heavy to bring along, he suggests they leave them there at the workbench and then possibly pick them up as they exit. If they can’t come back this way out again, they have bigger problems to handle than carrying too much loot.

Elliander seems to be in the middle of the group, but he will let his search for magical auras scan into rooms they pass to get a glimpse of anything worth looking at. He holds his sword and shield ready.

The door at the far end opens into a slightly larger chamber, this one with two sleeping rooms adjoining. This one, however, is not entirely uninhabited…

Shadowy forms can be seen hovering over the sleeping mats, and the adventurers hear soft, babbling voices that send ripples of gooseflesh along their skin. The insane mutterings cannot be entirely understood, but they seem to beg the listener to pay closer attention – to fathom their meaning, perhaps. The closest one doesn’t react to the party’s presence, but the one glimpsed in the adjoining chamber turns to face the door, its gibbering rising in volume as though in response to these intruders. Perhaps it just wants to be heard…

Soumral doesn't know what she's looking at, but she sees a really serious potential problem. She gets out of the passage while telling the others "Back back back! Get out of this hallway! Bad terrain! I don't think they're solid! Get back to the bigger room!"

As she goes she draws her wand of magic missiles.

Soumral calls out for the others to retreat and puts words to action as she beats feet down the hallway. Francis also backs up, and recognizes the undead creatures as allips. They are indeed incorporeal as the elvish wizard shouted, and further he knows that their mutterings can be mesmerizing to hear. His concerns are realized in the next moment as the allip in the room in the room beyond the door begins to gibber loudly, and those that hear cannot help but listen – fighting the urge to stand there and take no other actions (everyone please roll a Will save!), for surely the spirit is saying something very important… The other drifts forward and reaches for Hasina

Healed up, but still high on adrenaline from the previous fight, Elliander keeps alert. He’s still not sure what the campsite in the other room meant. Undead don’t need to camp. Has this building already been searched and looted, or the ones who set up camp chased away or killed?

Torn between hopes of finding no more resistance at all and Biter’s “encouragement” to go seek new opponents, Elliander moves along in the corridor, sword ready. Then Rediz spots some kind of beings in the next room. The duskblade more hears their presence than see them, but the eerie sound is enough to be cautious before a new threat. Soumral calls out and retreats past him. He tries to look over Hasina’s shoulder not really knowing what to do. They are at a disadvantage to fight as a group in the narrow corridor and avoiding strong enemies if possible, is wise. Yet, Elliander is reluctant to just flee, but he can’t stand in the way of his allies either. He casts a quick spell and then retreats back towards the larger room.

Feeling the strange language tugging on his mind Francis focuses on the teachings of Pharasma. These creatures were dangerous undead that needed to be destroyed. Incorporeal they would be hard to harm with physical weapons.... "Try to avoid their touch. They will drain your power to resist their chittering and kill you. They are like ghosts though. Only magic can harm them. Force attacks can't be resisted!"

He quickly chants a spell a creates a dagger of force beside the one attacking Hasina. The dagger immediately attacks.

Soumral is frustrated nobody seems to be listening to her very sound advice. She tries again.

"Get out of the hallway and back down here! There's no reason to stand there toe-to-toe as the drain you to husks! I can hit them from a distance first to weaken them, then we hold them at the hallway entrance where we have some room to move! Finishing them will be quicker then!"

Elliander shakes his head, clearing his mind of the babbling and casts a simple cantrip at the allip, though as Francis warned it seems to shrug off some of the damage (1/2 damage). Hasina hears the call for retreat and withdraws from the combat, though she stands protectively in front of her friend Francis rather than leave him guarding the rear. Rediz barely overcomes the babbling voice (for the alchemist just knows there’s some fascinating tidbits of forbidden knowledge in those words somewhere), but then he too comes to his senses and hurls his bomb, and though his aim is perfect the thing doesn’t seem as affected as it should have been (1/2 damage) Soumral continues to call out for a retreat so as to take advantage of a larger room where they can better see around them, frustration evident in her tone. Francis casts a spell, and a spectral dagger appears in the air beside the undead, slashing true, though the damage done is minimal. Still, the cleric is glad to see that it doesn’t seem resistant to the spiritual weapon. The allip that attacked Hasina drifts closer to the warrior, babbling crazily as the other closes in just behind, and again its words tug at the mind, almost forcing one to listen intently…

Francis hesitates, then stares at the undead apparition – certain that it’s saying something important, perhaps even the secrets beyond death itself… Elliander sends another blast of acid, which appears to have minimal effect (1 damage). Hasina moves to retreat, but sees Francis is seemingly entranced and forcibly pushes him away before her, guarding the rear. Doing so opens her up to attack, but the brave warrior is willing to put herself in danger for her good friend – even if he’s acting like a drooling idiot at the moment. Thankfully, she ducks away and manages to get Francis all the way down the hallway to the bend, where she can see Soumral watching urgently. The two allips continue to pursue down the hallway, though only the one in front is attacking – as the one behind is just sort of drifting along behind it, babbling incoherently and seeming to look around in mild confusion. It seems that they are still hidden from that one’s sight – at least for the moment. Unfortunately, the aggressor seems to be getting stronger each time its cold touch brushes against Hasina…

Everyone can post your actions (except for Francis – at least for the next few rounds.) Hasina, hopefully this action is good with you. It seemed to be in keeping with the intent of your post. You took an AoO as you double moved at half-speed, basically grabbing Francis and pushing him along in front of you to get him clear. You’ve got your flail in hand, but it's certainly not at the ready, as one hand is occupied as you forcibly move him along in front of you, guarding the rear.

Soumral sees she isn't going to get the kind of clearance she wants. By the time Hasina and Francis clear the hallway the ghosts will likely be doing the same. She backs well away from the entrance, deciding she'll take the shot when it's possible regardless of who else might be affected.

She calls out her intention and warns everyone it's going to get really bright really fast.

"Everyone needs to get clear of them, 20 feet or so, otherwise the flash could temporarily blind you! Run if you must but make room around the ghosts!"

Soumral makes ready to cast Burst of Radiance using her bonded ring.

I'd hoped to be able to place the spell within the hallway so most of the radius would be contained by the walls. I might still be able to do it, but only if they don't clear the hallway before Soumral can cast. If they moved out into the room first the spell will have an AoE of 20'. It will only harm evil creatures, but the blinding / dazzled effect works on anyone in the radius. Haul ass people! Sorry, her only other real option is Web and that's useless in this case.

Elliander makes some more space for Somral, unable to see a way to assist further at the moment. Hasina continues to forcibly move Francis out of harm’s way, again opening herself up to attack as it swipes at her again with its bone-chilling touch, though it barely misses. Rediz prepares himself to chuck his last bomb when (and if) the thing clears the corridor. Soumral calls out one more warning, then unleashes a powerful blast of magical light that seems to blind the one pursuing Hasina. Unfortunately, the other seems to see its foes now, but as it closes in on Hasina, Rediz’ last bomb of the day wounds that one as well as the other that now drifts blindly behind it. The allip that can now see (though it seems dazzled by the bright magical light) attacks the red-haired warrior, and again she ducks away from the undead creature! The other undead seems to do a fair job of trying to strike at her as well considering it can’t see at all, but it misses badly.

Everyone please post your actions! Francis, my apologies you can continue to make attacks with the Spiritual Weapon, as you don’t need to concentrate for it to pursue the ‘green’ allip. Make one roll for last round and one roll for the current round – then it blinks out. Soumral, go ahead and roll 4d4 for the damage and I’ll fix their ‘damage taken’ totals accordingly in the Combat Notes below. Not sure why you’re using your Arcane Bond to cast the spell though… I’m seeing it memorized? Red Allip is blind, but from what I’m reading it looks the DC to ‘pinpoint’ a square with an enemy combatant who is actively engaged in melee (or talking) is DC 20 (it’d be 30 if they were just moving at regular speed without the benefit of Stealth.) That seems about right to me, so I’ll be going with that.[/b]
