Tristain waits to see if Starflit can save Kyffin or if he must risk his life to have the half-orcs.

Starflit |

Starflit flies toward the spot where Kyffin fights the bhole single-handedly. When she gets within 30 feet of the beleaguered half-orc, she activates Freedom's Call.

Round 6
With Starflit hopefully taking care of Kyffin's immediate freedoms (even as the b-hole tries to free Kyffin from the burden of life), Tristain tries to melt the very existence of the b-hole from reality itself.

The worm is large enough that Tristain could have closed his eyes and pretended he was Lothan on the half-elf's worst day (which was pretty much every day since he'd met the human loon) and still hit the worm, which is enough to kill it along with two of Al and Lothan's arrows! It was down to 18 hp, fortunately for you.
He's able to resume the ritual in time before the magic is disrupted!

Pumping his fist in the air as the beast falls, "YEAH!!!!!! I TOLD YOU!!! I TOLD YOU THAT YOU DON'T JACK WITH US!!! HECK YEAH!!! WHOOOO!!!"
Lothan then makes his way down from the sky until he's back upon solid ground. "Man, that was too close, Big guy. For a tiny second there, I thought that thing might just have you for lunch. Fortunately, we are just too freaking amazing for that to happen," he says proudly, bobbing his head confidently while grinning wryly.

Jack with us? What does that even mean? Is he saying that only he can jack himself? I dunno...this is very confusing. Oh...focus, Tris! Focus on the ritual!
"I got it! I got it! Don't you worry...I can finish this!" Tristain tries to get things done.

Al airwalks back to the ritual site with a sigh of relief and stays vigilant while Tristain completes the ritual. "That thing was terrifying, I hope we don't see one of those again. What do you think it swallowed over the years, could anything still be inside of it?" Al ponders the question and isn't sure he wants to find out or spend the time cutting through the massive worm.

Starflit |

"I was wondering that myself," Starflit tells Al. "But we've got a more important task at hand than mere looting...."
The servant of the Black Butterfly does what she can to aid Tristain in completing the ritual.

After you complete the ritual and deactivate the Paris nexus’s Star Stela, Queen Cassilda again appears at your side.
"Friends, you have deactivated the Star Stelae that bind your world to Carcosa, but I fear I bring awful tidings. The spawn of Carcosa, Xhamen-Dor, has completely subsumed a man from your world and so has returned to life, as only the Great Old Ones can! The Inmost Blot has not recovered its full power, but the connection to the man from your world lets it reach across time and space and maintain a hold on your home. Soon your home is to be pulled into Carcosa’s maw. You must regain your strength, and I will transport us to where this terrible new Thrushmoor is to be born.”
Cassilda strongly encourages your to rest and prepare yourselves for the battle ahead, but warns you have no more than 12 hours in which to tarry. She volunteers to stand watch so you can all fully rest.

Tristain the Chalker |

"Oh! Thrushmoor!!? That's the place with the starting corner! If we go back there, then we'll know exactly where we are again! That would be great...except for the hideous god-abomination about to be born there," Tristain notes, very smartly.
Tristain busts out his lucky pillow and prepares to rest. He wonders if there is a shiny new level in this pillowcase.

Albert Hazred |

Al is happy to rest, he did miss his nap today and hasn't had a chance to eat prunes for a week. He isn't sure what the starting corner business is all about, but it sounds like a superior head bonking location.

Kyffin Rhees |

Plenty of CLW wands to go around. Help yourself, I’ll note the usage.
Kyffin too is happy to have a break before the next onslaught. He too was getting very low on spells. He shudders slightly at the starting corner, but it was where it all began. Still, he’d hoped not to return there. ”It’s an insane insane asylum. It’s where we started… as experiments.”

Lothan Robgard |

Looking very confused, "Wait... What?! What's this 'spawn' thing that's happening?! What is a Thrushmoor?! What is Carcosa and this binding business?! Xhamen-Dor?! Inmost blot?! Okay, I've no idea what the heck is going on. Did we not just win by killing the grubworm from Hell? You mean to tell me, there's something WORSE we're gonna have to deal with?! Because that's what it sounds like."
Lothan then cuts his attention sharply to Kyffin and asks, "An insane asylum? You all started in an insane asylum? As experiments?"
He then cuts his eyes to Tristain, and a look of revelation comes over him. "Huh. Wow. Yeah, I can see that. That definitely answers a lot of questions and explains a lot. That does make things make a ton of sense, for sure. An insane asylum. Huh. I should've thought of that."

Tristain the Chalker |

"An insane asylum? You all started in an insane asylum? As experiments?"
"Uh, technically, I think we were sacrifices, not experiments. I'm not sure we were experimented upon, but more like ritually abused as a price to pay for a madness that would not end. But also, it wasn't so bad once I found the starting corner and we got through the door that cried," Tristain corrects everyone with correctness, maybe.
"So yeah, we're totally normal now. We'll all totally normal humanoids, we are."
Tristain looks for a nice place to bonk as he get ready to return to the starting corner so he will know where he is again.

Sorry, I thought we'd done the last level up, but I was wrong! You get a level, and you get a level! Everyone gets a level! (This is now the last level up.) In the meantime, I'll keep us moving forward.
Once you've rested, Cassilda teleports you all to the Thrushmoor nexus, near the shore of Avalon Bay. The queen immediately cries out in a startled and tortured scream and flickers out of existence.
The skies above this alternate Thrushmoor are dark and stormy, but also hazy in a manner that appears to have little to do with the weather. The clouds roil and race across the two muted black suns. The wharf, nearby warehouses, and fishing boats are all indistinct, like an animated watercolor painting done with faded pigments. Despite the appearance of strong winds that lash at nearby trees and a driving rain, no wind or rain can be felt and the town is eerily quiet.
Standing just where Cassilda was before she vanished, the translucent image of the Pallid Mask flickers into existence in her place. “Hello,” he says smugly, [/]“we meet again.”[/b] You can see and hear him, but cannot otherwise physically interact with him; it’s as if he were an illusion. But you can ask him questions.

That morning, at breakfast, Kyffin prepares a mighty feast! He casts Heroes’ Feast (Temp HP: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11, +1 attack & will saves (morale), +4 saves vs poison & fear (morale)). He applies the benefits to all!
He also casts Magic Vestment after breakfast on his buckler as usual.
Later, when facing the Pallid Mask, he’s angry. ”Ahh, the King’s Emissary. I remember you. Didn’t we send you back to hell once already? Or wherever it is you're from? What do you want from us now?”
He tries to take out his Dreamland vorpal scimitar to attack the avatar, but he fails…

Lothan Robgard |

Lothan dives in and eats his fill for breakfast. He possesses no shame in eating and eating and eating. He does drink some of the strange beverage, more than he thought due to how tasty it was, but that was mainly just to wash the food down. "Man, that's good eating right there. I don't care who you are."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Raising a hand, "Question: Who is this guy? If we have dealt with this guy in the past, and I was with you at the time, obviously he wasn't important enough for me to remember, so, I'm gonna revert back to my first question." He looks around at the others, awaiting any info about the weirdo.

Tristain the Chalker |

Once you've rested, Cassilda teleports you all to the Thrushmoor nexus, near the shore of Avalon Bay. The queen immediately cries out in a startled and tortured scream and flickers out of existence.
"Woah! What was that all about?" Tristain cries as the queens melts away like a witch being hit by water or Lothan meeting a strong female.
Why did she gurgle away? What am I forgetting? Or is there a check that I should be making?
* * *
”Ahh, the King’s Emissary. I remember you. Didn’t we send you back to hell once already? Or wherever it is you're from? What do you want from us now?”
"Oh yeah, that guy. He wasn't actually there, I don't think. It was just an image. This is a different image. Not sure it's the same or different," Tristain explains. "But I don't think it's it either way. Just an image. The real question is why someone would want to keep an image of this jerk around? Isn't that more correct?"

You don't know what happened to Cassilda. At least not yet.
“Hell? Hell is empty, and all the devils are here,"[/b] he responds to Kyffin's first question, but then pauses to think. "Something bothered me during our last encounter. You were supposed to be dead, couldn’t quite reconcile how you were here. You see, I have since learned that you died in the Dreamlands. You were the victims of the one who calls himself Lowls, urged on in his actions by the Mad Poet. Yet, here you were in Carcosa and you were the death of me -- a distressing paradox, one that the King has now acted to correct. Carcosa, you see, haunts the dreams of mortals throughout the universe, and the Dimension of Dreams transcends time.
"Simply put, everything you are and everything you have done has been naught but the dreams of dying minds, an alternate timeline where you woke up from your amnesia to fight a cosmic battle against the inevitable.
“Even now, the Briarstone Witch sends her minion, the Tatterman, through the dreams of Ulver Zandalus to put an end to you and this alternate continuity.” The Pallid Mask laughs dryly. [/b]“Ironically you were also phantoms of truth, but now those phantoms are laid to rest.”[/b]
The Pallid Mask turns and beings to walks away.

Tristain the Chalker |

"What? Why would they care about our alternate reality if it's so insignificant? Why don't they just leave us alone if we're so inevitably doomed!? HUH!?!" Tristain yells his questions at the retreating figure, hoping for answers.

Starflit |

Starflit watches the strange figure depart. "But...I never had any amnesia...," she offers in a confused tone. With a smirk she adds, "Or if I did...I don't remember it."
Still paying attention, but I haven't leveled up just yet. Hopefully by tonight or tomorrow.

Kyffin Rhees |

”You’re wrong. Our reality is the better reality, and we won’t let the Tatterman change it back! Fool!” he cries out after the departing Pallid Mask, though he doesn't expect a response.
When he’s cleared off, Kyffin suggests, ”Let’s get geared up and ready to go. This could be tough.”
If they’re right by the door, he’ll cast Air Walk Communal (40 min each for Albert, Kyffin, Lothan, and Starflit) and Magic Circle against Evil on himself (160m). Then he’ll use his rod to cast an extended Bull's Strength (32m).
Then he heads in, opening the door as needed, scimitar in hand.

As the Pallid Mask fades away, you receive a telepathic message from Cassilda: “He tells only the truth he wants to believe. I still sense you and something strange on the isle near you. Go there. Nowhere else, because you’re running out of time! Make your own truth!”
As you survey your surroundings, you observe a strange corona of light shimmering over Briarstone Isle and feel a strong, intuitive urge to go there. Once you arrive, Kyffin, Tristain and Al feel an even stronger instinctive pull to enter the asylum and the first two feel a need to return to the very basement location where their adventures began.
The asylum is hazy and indistinct like the rest of the nexus, but a chilling sense of familiarity grows with each room and corridor that is passed by. Objects have moved, doors that were left open are closed, and most of the remains of battle have vanished. There is an eerie sense that this is not the asylum as you left it, but as it was before you woke up.

With a look of ABSOLUTE confusion, "What?! I am COMPLETELY effing lost! Okay. Breathe, Lothan, just breathe. Okay. Okay." Extending his hand out as if to say Hold a moment, Lothan works to hopefully understand what was just said. "Okay. So... so... so... what this freak is telling me is that I'm... like... FAKE, or something?! Like, none of this is real?! I mean... WHAT?! I don't get it! I don't. And I'm with the Butterfly. I don't remember having any amnesia."
His eyes then lose themselves in thought a moment before, "Unless, that's the point. I guess I wouldn't remember if I had amnesia. Oh, by the gods, this sucks! This is jacked! Alternate realities?! Dying minds?! What in the Nine hells is next?!" he asks before something else hits him square in the thought process.
"OH! I know!" He raises a finger, then says with great sarcasm, and with a look that says he has this ALL figured out, "This WHOLE thing we're in," he looks up and all around, "is nothing more than a BIG. FREAKING. GAME!!!" He dies laughing, the insanity rolling in quickly upon the half-elf.
When he manages to somewhat calm down, "That's gotta be it! We are just players in a big freaking game, controlled by gods. NO WAIT! Not gods, we're controlled by 'bigger' humanoids than us. They're probably just like us, only ginormous, and we're, like, really, really small, and they're sitting around some dumb, stupid table, saying stupid stuff like:" Lothan switches to a dorky voice for, "My player Lothan is going to shoot an arrow at the big b-hole," before switching back to normal for, "in his stupid voice, thinking it's MINE, but which it is NOT!"
"And let's not forget the guy controlling Tristian." Lothan switches to another dumb voice, "Okay, I'm going to bonk my head on the wall now." HA! Just think if they were having to write all this stuff. He'd probably have to write the word "Bonk" a bunch of times, one right after the other. But it would actually be one right below the other, you see? Not in a row, but in a column! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY HE WOULD DO IT THAT WAY BUT I FREAKING HOPE HE GETS A MASSIVE CRAMP IN HIS HAND BECAUSE THAT WOULD JUST BE FUNNY!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" Nearing complete and utter insanity, Lothan really just doesn't care anymore.
Again, having to wipe the laugh tears from his eyes and managing to calm down a little bit, "And let's not forget the gal - I hope she's cute - that controls Butterfly!" Switching to a horrible, higher octave, 'Hello, I am Starflit and I'm quite cute and I think Lothan is a total hottie but I'm too shy to tell him,' he waggles his eyebrows, laughing again...
...before continuing with, "And the old man controlling Al!" Switching to a gruff, old man voice, 'If you're hurt, rub some dirt on it! I like prunes! And I am a totally normal human, ya git!'
"And the big dude that controls Kyffin!" Lothan starts, pauses, and then thinks twice. "He probably says something like, 'Shutup and pull yourself together, Lothan, or I'm gonna feed you this scimitar in a way that you REALLY don't want to eat it.' is probably, ummmm, probably what he'd say." He says that in his normal voice, not laughing at all.
Letting out a heavy sigh, "Oh man, I really hate this freaking place," he says with a smile.
"Anyways, back to the loser that thinks I'm his player. Well, let's get one thing straight, folks, no one," he looks up into the sky, "AND I MEAN NO ONE IS AS COOL AS ME! YOU HEAR ME, YOU STUPID, DORKY, LOSER HUMANOID WHO THINKS I'M YOUR PLAYER! YEAH, I'M TALKING TO YOU! YOU SUUUUUUCK!" He gives an emphatic nod as if he won that war of words.
Shaking his head, another insane thought then crosses his mind. "Of course, that begs the question, if we're just 'players' in this so-called 'game', who controls all the monsters? Some other loser? Some type of... I don't know... 'Game Monster Master' or something? Maybe just 'Game Master' for short? HAHAHA!!! How stupid is that?!?! Oh my gosh, that is so dumb and I'm losing my freaking mind."
"We gotta get outta here soon or they'll commit me to this place. Let's go kill something to make me feel better."

Eventually, you arrive at the basement torture chamber and behold a handful of dead bodies, slain doppelgangers, and several unconscious figures in the cells -- including what appears to be another Kyffin and another Tristain! The other three are a gnome, a hulking human of a man, and a smaller, pudgy man with an impressive moustache. All five in the cell are wearing only plain linen pants and tunic, a dull, indeterminate gray that may once have been another color before it underwent too many careless washings
You see a tall, thin figure in the garb of a doctor who drags and pulls an unfamiliar man onto the table and strap him down. You are helpless to intervene as this occurs on the Material Plane, but you can overhear the doctor speak. “The Tatterman says you all must die. No survivors. All must die! The witch, she commands it!” The victim on the table wakes up and screams as the horrific creature begins its ghastly vivisection. The doctor mutters softly to its victim, “They didn’t tell me which ones were the important ones, though. So we start with you.”
At this moment, a blinding flash occurs in the center of the chamber, superimposed over the events that are unfolding. Space seems to stretch out, and the room widens. A shimmering, colorless mass appeals in the center of the room, then congeals to form a four-armed humanoid shape with an eye-like pattern in its torso. You immediately note it is in sync with their current state of existence, which means it can see and interact with you normally and all spells and effects function normally between both parties.
It's a bythos aeon, guardians of time and planar travel. They scour the multiverse, hunting for creatures that have the ability to time-travel and may have abused this ability. Far more often, though, bythos seek out abuses of planar travel, such as tears in reality, regions where planes overlap, or creatures that abuse the use of planar travel. In some cases, such distortions are ignored, but in others, a bythos or even a full tribunal comes to assess and repair the damage. In most cases, "repair" is analogous to the death of the creature responsible for the distortions, but placing such creatures in temporal stasis can also solve the problem.
A flash of imagery and sounds fill your minds as the creature communicates with you. It gives you the impression that time has gone askew and the creature must destroy you in order to set things right again.

Perhaps appropriately, the dice determine that Kyffin and Tristain act first.

Tristain the Chalker |

Tristain spends a moment staring at himself with a look of abject shock and horror.
No one told me I look like that! What...what...is my hair...does my hair look like that!? Ooohh...this explains soooo much...
He turns his attention to the newly formed foe.

Round 1/2
Almost seeming to mock the bythos' desire to punish those who manipulate time, Tristain does just that, and then retreats around the corner as Kyffin races around the other side of this latest foe. Tristain realizes the outsider has no special resistance to weapons, though can't be hit critically. Its gaze, however, causes confusion and its touch can either displace you briefly from the timeline, or age you -- possibly to death!
It reaches out to touch Kyffin who suddenly seems to blink away momentarily who must make a DC 26 Fort save or you disappear from the present moment (for an unknown amount of time)!
Everyone is up. Everyone must attempt a DC 26 Will save at the start of their turn or be confused for 1d4 rounds
