But if a bunch of aether elementals show up and start throwing them at one another, they many not be able to carry out those readied actions. Hell, I could even hand the bead to one of them and have it carry it around the corner and throw it down in the middle of the room...

I still have three magic weapon oils we can use. Just for extra prep.

So you want to burn through wand charges summoning a fistful of small aether elementals and, since they are invisible, have them stealth in, throw all the bad guys as close together as possible, and then drop the bead of force on the center of the pile? I mean...

pardon my French:
Damn!
that's cold hearted! It's also tactically undeniable. Should we even bother with the final fight, or just hand-wave that too. I mean with that plan, nothing in that room stands a chance really.

Heads up friends. I will be embroiled in family Christmas celebrations for the entirety of the weekend and will, with a 99% certainty, not be able to post until Monday morning.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I have friendmas Wednesday after three finals.

Okay, for setting up this upcoming battle, I've placed an icon to be used as the aether elemental(s), copy paste as needed, where needed. Since there is no way anyone in the throne room is going to overcome a +31 to stealth (+11 skill bonus and a +20 for invisibility) you can just place as many elementals as you want to summon, wherever you'd like them to be set up in the throne room. Of important note, though, is that if any of the heavily armed members of the group are going to make their way down the corridor to the throne room, we're going to need to do a little stealth vs. perception check, because some of the readied actions of those in the throne room are dependent only on the perception of a threat coming down the hallway. Take that knowledge and figure it in to your plans accordingly. Let me know when you guys are all ready, and we'll get this final battle underway. I doubt it will last long. :)

It's been great gaming with you all. Oh! I was made aware by one of Dolok's RL friends, in his other campaign, that his internet is not working. We might not hear from him for awhile, and if I need to bot him, I will. So I wouldn't count on him to offer any advice/counsel on battle preparations.

I think 4 of them makes the most sense. By passing the wand, we can summon that many in one round. They will just hover above the kobolds, so we might want to leave their icons off the board for simplicity. They are invisible and using telekinetic attacks anyway, so it probably doesn't matter much where they are. They don't even have to reveal what direction they're attacking from unless they try to use their slam attacks, and I think they'll probably stick to telekinetic throw...

I have internet back currently, and is supposed to be fixed, but it already went out for about 40 minutes again tonight, so I'll do the best I can. Sounds like Illiam has the plan figured out already as usual.

Ha ha! Yeah, probably more than a bit distracting to have your second in command being whipped around like a ragdoll inside a force sphere by aether elementals while you try and sound smug and superior to the man in front of you. :P Good call.

If Illiam is invisible, could he move into Merlokrep's square so that he can shift to the diagonally-adjacent square and get past the bubble (would it be reasonable to assume that his invisibility is already active from his scouting mission, or did we decide to skip that?)?

My secondary plan involves using that create pit spell to allow someone to bypass the blockage, but that one won't work without Merlokrep seeing it and trying to interfere.

Hoping Kairon's plan works, but if he's only successful in delaying matters, I want to be able to make use of that time.

There's also one more charge left on the summoning wand. Eagles have already proven effective against bombardiers, and wouldn't have trouble bypassing the sphere.

Btw, I decided to target a square instead of a creature because of what happens if the attack roll misses, which is described in the telekineticist "foe throw" ability, which seems to be intended to be the same ability that the elementals have (which explains the fort save part).

My assumption was that Illiam scouted invisibly in order to be able to relay to everyone the exact situation in the throne room, and to be able to give the aether elementals specific direction as to what to do.
So, is he still invisible? Sure, I'd say so. None of those things drops invisibility by my reckoning. None of that changes the fact that if Illiam wants to get past Merlokrep, presently, he's walking across a greased cave floor, and that Merlokrep himself blocks vision and access to the throne room beyond. You can try the 5+CMD Acrobatics check to get through Merlokrep's square if you want, but I'm giving him a considerable bonus to his perception check to notice that something is literally squeezing, sliding, or jumping past him...

Illiam, it may be of little enough use, but I'd just suggest advancing and picking one trick or another of yours to ready. We've hit him with the "stick" already, as it were, but I think more "carrot" at this point may get us through this with somewhat less risk. And your dialogue certainly proves persuasive, given some time . . . . :)

But, having an ace-in-the-hole play would not go amiss, 'cause if we get a call for another skill check from Kairon of a social nature, it'll likely go the wrong way. lol

Yeah, my thinking is that Illiam is probably the ONLY one in the party with any way of getting past the sphere, so he really needs to try to do that. If it becomes necessary, it will be VERY necessary.

Btw, if I can beat "Tikan" to the boy, I can cast vanish on him. It will only last 3 rounds, but I figure that should be enough for Tikan to see that he's not there and leave to report that to the king.

Another idea, I don't know if Chillel has an touch spells prepared, but Athena could get past the sphere to deliver one pretty easily...

Question Mended Wall:-

Is there room for Athena to fly over or around that sphere? If the boy is tied up she will be able to break the ropes, well eventually, I would think.

Yes, 30' ceilings and the sphere is only 10' diameter. So, yes, plenty of room to fly over. :D About breaking the ropes... that assumes he's tied with ropes... O.o

At least. If the bottom of the sphere is at ground level, there should be room for Illiam to go under the edge of it. More likely, the bottom of the sphere is 5ft into the ground, making the top 15ft off the ground.

Okay, folks, I've got an update for ya:

I have just started on a new employment opportunity today, and I'm *beat*. We're talking 16+ hour days, 6-7 days a week. Gonna be a major adjustment from my several recent years of "desk-driving". I don't think this will be a problem for our game here, but I *will* be posting with less frequency. If you don't hear from me as you've come to expect lately, don't panic! :)

Okay everybody, My RL Mom and Sister arrive in my town tomorrow evening (Friday 12/15), and they will be here for 2 weeks. Ass some of you may know my Dad just passed away on 12/3 in Argentina and so my Mom had to come to the States to take care of some legal issues and she of course want to spend some time with me. I have not seen her in about 1& 1/2 years or so, and it's been 3 years since I have seen my Sister. This means my posting may become somewhat ... erratic? or very occasional? slim to non-existent? I'm sorry. I will do what I can and of course you Game Masters feel free to do whatever you feel necessary with my character.

I'll have a post in gameplay tonight, around 8 - 10 Central.

My best to your family, Stormstrider. Again -- my condolences and sympathies. I hope you all enjoy the holiday the together!!

I moved the elementals off the map because their summons would have run out by now. We're assuming that everything caught in the bubble with them is dead by now, right? The bubble itself lasts 10 minutes, so unless Goruck digs out a tunnel, even if we come to an agreement, the rest of you won't be able to get to Hollin until then, and I don't think I'm going to be able to sneak him out (My shift ability is self-only).

As for Illiam, I still have a vanish spell that I can use to sneak him back out or to hide his presence when the rest of you come down the tunnel (since finding one of us already in there might make an already unstable truce fall apart).

If you DON'T reach an agreement, and the bombardier comes to kill Hollin, I can use the vanish spell to hide him. With the wands and spells I have left, I shouldn't have much trouble fighting him. I don't know Vreggma's stats, but since she wasn't waiting in the throne room to help attack us, I doubt she's much of a threat. I suspect you guys will have more trouble fighting the king than I will with the two of them.

I thought it was funny Goruck!

Oh, it's funny. Don't misunderstand.

But it's funny like (a bad, bad thing here):
. . . dead baby jokes.

Maybe a step above those.

Dolok, Kairon, Chillel is waiting for you both to opine about whether to kill kobold babies, or make the exchange of their lives for that of Hollin Jabbs. I'm waiting until you give such opinions, and for someone to answer Merlokrep, before I post anything further.

More precisely, Chillel is very firmly against murdering all the kobold kids. If Illiam can extract Hollin, Chillel has at least hinted Merlokrep is a prime candidate for the chop. I mean, the next time he kidnaps a bunch of kids for sacrifice we may not be around to stop him, or not do it in time...infanticide bad, regicide good.
