Looks like only Tre actually has a bow with him, though everyone except Cassandra can use at least a shortbow. Barret and Arturin are the two who would actually have the best attack bonus with a bow, but someone's likely to have to shell out the cash to pick one up.

There will be time for a visit to the wizard Alendru Ghoroven before it starts to get dark. Who's doing that, and who wants to do anything else now?

I'll deal with whatever you want to do before dinner-time, and then that afterwards, if that's OK. In the meantime, it's LEVEL-UP TIME!!! Congratulations and welcome to Level 2.

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

Tre asks Kendra for a drink of fruit flavoured water to wet his lips. Taking a biscuit from the plate he eats, brushing the crumbs from around his smooth skinned chin and cheeks onto a small white plate. The glass of chilled cloudy yellow drink, is sipped neatly and delicately, it trickles down his throat, quenching his thirst. Once he has dabbed the corners of his mouth with a red bordered 'kerchief, he speaks thoughtfully. Well, I believe Barret is right, we should visit this wizard, for not only might he know some useful information about these times, he may be able to aid my studies as well.

I'm hoping that as part of the leveling up I'll be able to add 2 spells to the spell book either from Kendra or the wizard Alendru Ghoroven.

Kellid Mooncursed 1 (HP 15/15; AC:12, T:12, FF:10; Fort:+4 Ref:+2 Will:+2; Init+2; Perception +5) (Effects: None)

Yay, level 2!

Barret will choose to stay at Kendra's while the others go to see the wizard. Unless there is an outstanding reason he should go, of course.

Still feeling weird about her dream, Merian decides to head out into town, looking for information about anyone whose name begins with a "V."

Visiting the Unfurling Scroll:

Dillan and Tre'duinne (anyone else?) head off to visit the wizard. Kendra's given you directions, but when you get there his building has an 'inn-sign' style board hanging outside with a scroll painted on it. Beside it, there hangs a bell with a long bell-rope. Inside- the door stands open - the front part of the house is divided into two rooms. One has several rows of benches facing a podium with a chalkboard behind it, and is empty. Some sums are scrawled on the chalkboard. The other room has lots of shelves with typical magician-y clutter - scrolls, books, wands, material components, etc. An owl is dozing on a perch in the corner, and an old man with a long grey beard wearing a black gown is seated in a chair balancing a large tome on his knees.

He looks up as you enter. "Afternoon, gentlemen. Can I help you?"

Wandering around town:

Meanwhile Merian goes for a wander. The little girls are still playing jumprope in the square, although they are now singing a song about 'Merlin the Happy Pig' instead of the rather gruesome song they were singing last time you came by.

You ask everyone you see about local residents with names beginning with a V. The first one is actually the fellow you are talking to... who says his name is Vdrodish. He works part-time as a 'deputy' - the local name for a law enforcement officer, and he's on duty at the moment so doesn't have much time to chat... even though his duties seem pretty light, just patrolling the town and answering any requests for assistance. He works on a nearby farm the rest of the time.

Staying home:

Barret, what do you want to do?

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

Dillan will stand quietly next to Tre allowing him to do all the talking here with the mage. Though he does keep his eyes open for anything odd/strange...

Kellid Mooncursed 1 (HP 15/15; AC:12, T:12, FF:10; Fort:+4 Ref:+2 Will:+2; Init+2; Perception +5) (Effects: None)

Barret will spend the time speaking to Kendra. Mostly questions pertaining to her father(what he was like, stuff like that)And assuming he doesn't make her cry by asking about him, he will ask about her. If he does make her cry, he will speak with whoever is left home, which I believe is Cassandra.

female human oracle of battle 4

Merian resists the urge to stuff the militiaman into a sack for his own protection, as her common sense asserts itself ahead of her impulse: The first man I talk to has a name that begins with a V? It must be more common around here than it was in Molthune. Now what? She politely thanks Vdrodish, apologizes for disrupting his rounds and offers him a crusader's blessing as he goes, then stands in the city square, staring at the desecrated monument, pondering. The Splatter Man's ritual involved the victim finding the whole name, not just one letter - if another letter appears, it will give us more to go on. She shakes her head, looking over at Arturin. "This was a fool's errand, I think," she tells him. "We can head back, unless you have something else you want to do."

As she turns, her eye catches the group of girls playing skip rope. "At least they know something less disturbing than that other song. I was afraid that was all they sang around here."

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

Tre spends a happy time walking and talking with Dillan as they make their way to visit Alendru Ghoroven. Arriving at the wizards abode, Tre
knocks and introduces himself at the door as a guest in Ravengro, who is new to the area and has been disturbed by some recent events. He says he understands that Alendru is a most venerable and knowledgeable teacher and would discuss the behavior of some children in the village. Tre recites the words of the rhyme he children sang, asking if it was normal for them to recite such words? And if he knew what the words might mean?

Diplomacy 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

On the walk through town Tre' will notice that Dillan keeps his hood up despite when the clouds clear allowing the sun to shine. He doesn't say much except when asked directly and normally provides short quick answers. He steps quickly and in bursts; his eyes always shifting - watching the surroundings to include the rooftops of buildings. At every corner they approach his arm moves slightly and Tre' would be safe in assuming his hand is finding a weapon just incase hostilities wait around the corner...

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Barret finds that Kendra is somewhat more composed now, and tells of how her father spent the last few years of his life researching things that interested him, almost pottering amongst his books, pursuing one line of enquiry and then another as the fancy took him.

As for herself, she is 25, unattached and a diviner by trade. The spells she prefers are those that will help her find things out - she says she will happily teach you ones like comprehend languages or identify if you wish. She's quite good at alchemy and history, an excellent linguist, and happiest either pottering in the kitchen or curled up with a book!

At the Unfurling Scroll, the old man introduces himself to Tre'duinne and Dillan as 'Master Ghoroven' and invites you both to take a seat. The owl awakens and glares at Dillan throught the interview, fixing him with an unblinking stare in that disconcerting way owls have. Master Ghoroven says that he teaches local youngsters to read and do their sums, a bit of history and - for those who have the aptitude - basic spellcraft. He also trades in minor magical items and creates scrolls for sale. At the moment, he has a couple of wands in stock, and is currently evaluating a tome that has come into his possession, indeed he was reading it when you came in.

As for the children's song, it is something that they have been singing for several decades, a nasty little ditty based on some of the more gruesome stories generated by the history of some of the more notorious convicts incarcerated in Harrowstone. He shudders, and asks if you would like to see his wands, obviously changing the subject.

Merian and Arturin continue their stroll - anything else you two want to do or see?

Kellid Mooncursed 1 (HP 15/15; AC:12, T:12, FF:10; Fort:+4 Ref:+2 Will:+2; Init+2; Perception +5) (Effects: None)

Barret will decline her offer of teaching. Though he will listen intently to her stories about her father as he will tell more stories from his homeland, even a few that are not as heroic as he'd like. He asks about what she knows of his new companions. He will offer to teach her a few words in Hallit if she is not already fluent as well. It is clear he does not entirely trust magic in and of itself and is not a big reader.Shocking! After speaking with Kendra, he will offer to help around the house to keep busy and to keep his word.

Male Human Fighter 2

I don't know about you Merian with your religious inklings and such but I have always found some of the best and most reliable information can be obtained by visiting a tavern and chatting up the relaxed locals. Besides that, I could really use a good strong ale at this point." Arturin waits for a reaction, partly to see how strict her religious codes are and partly because he really just wants a drink and hopes she is not opposed.

female human oracle of battle 4

"My... 'religious inklings'?" Merian repeats, with an amused expression. "Cayden Cailean's hand is on me as much as Iomedae's or Torag's - why would I mind a drink? If there's something you're looking for, we can start our, ah, questioning in the tavern if you'd like. A decent ale sounds like a fine idea to me."

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

Tre smiles at Master Ghoroven, knowing when a conversation is at an end and at the mention of magical items he has for sale. He adjusts his cloak, pushing out his chest, the impressive a mage he will look, such trite things often work on those of a short life. "Well Master Ghoroven, you are more than just a simple teacher, you talents are indeed impressive. Pray tell me more of these wands, what is that they can do? Can I see their magiks as one master to his pupil, that I may learn?"

Tre taking his pipe out, plays a sweet tune at the items, allowing the musical notes interact with the magic contained within. Tre watches as the two magical energies twist and turn in a colorful dance and display their magical auras.

"And the tome, is that for sale? For if you are evaluating it, it might contain some most useful knowledge, for I have many contacts in Caliphas, who may pay a pretty penny for knowledge. Pray, what is the title of the book, may I see? For I myself am a seeker of knowledge, as no doubt you have, a thirst for the arcane ways."

Assuming that he let's Tre study the wands, Tre will use Detect magic and Spellcraft to identify magic items 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Master Ghoroven is happy to let you examine the wands. One is made of a light grey wood carved with a pattern of cats, and is a wand of cat's grace while the other is of very dark wood, a thick cylinder with an almost slimy feel that is a wand of slow.

When you are done looking at them, he lets you see the book as well, saying that he'll probably sell it as it isn't really in his area of interest. It's a flesh golem manual and has a bookplate in the front saying that it comes from the library of one Montagnie Crowl of Lepidstadt.

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

Dillan stays silent as Tre conducts his magical artl; a bit unnerved from the owls unblinking eyes he kept but feel this creature has more intelligence than a normal eye and perhaps its that appearance that unnerves the rogue even more...mustering his courage he turns to Master Ghoroven, "Are all the birds in this area as spooky as your owl?"

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

"Hmm, they are very interesting wands, do you know how much they've been used before they can into your possession? They would be most interesting, as is the book? And from Montagnie Crowl's library, now let me think do I know him? For it surely is a very unusual book, one might even think it veered to the darker arts. How did you come by it out here in Ravengro, its out of the normal academic area?"

Knowledge(nobility) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 To know about Montagnie Crowl and his library and his interest in this type of book.

Liberty's Edge

Tre'duinne, you know that Montagnie Crowl is a professor of antiquities at Lepidstadt University, and he is one of the people to whom you are supposed to deliver some of the books Professor Lorrimor mentioned in his will. He's a known eccentric, but well regarded by both colleagues and students alike.

Master Ghoroven says that he believes that both wands have something on the order of half-a-dozen charges remaining.

"As for birds," he tells Dillan, "who knows what they are thinking? Odd that you should phrase your question thus, for my owl's name is Spooky. He is usually thinking about the next fieldmouse, as far as I can tell."

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

"It would seem all the birds of this area have earned that name." The rogue looks about nervously, "It feels as if they are watching us, as if they are 'seeing' what we are doing."

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

Tre, stops scratching his chin, and his eyes light up, "Yes that's it, of course I met him when he came to see the late Professor Lorrimor. He was another learned Professor, over from Lepidstadt University. We'll be taking some of the late professor's books over to him, to aid Prof. Crowl in his studies, you know how it is with these professors. You know, I could return the tome on the flesh golems at the same time, save you having to do it? What do you say Master Ghoroven? "

The elf then turns his attention to the wands, so they are well used, how much are you hoping to get for them? As for scrolls, maybe I can come back tomorrow and we can sort something out? It's so good to find such an experienced purveyor of majiks here, one didn't think there would be such treasures. The elf seems quite excited at the prospect of maybe getting some extra magical help.

"I'll be happy to entertain reasonable offers for the wands and the tome," says Master Ghoroven.

female human oracle of battle 4

For the record, I think Arturin and Merian are headed back to Kendra's house.

Male Human Fighter 2

Actually I think they went for a drink first but yes, eventually we will wander back to Kendra's place.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Merian and Arturin, you are welcome to go for a drink... it is that time of day, after all. You have the choice of the Laughing Demon (location C) or the Outward Inn (location K).

Revengro Town Map

Barret, Kendra is quite happy to chat with you about her father's adventures. She seems a lot more cheerful now. If you want to make yourself useful, there's some wood to chop...

Dillan and Tre'duinne, do you want to make Master Ghoroven any offers, or ask him anything else?

Kellid Mooncursed 1 (HP 15/15; AC:12, T:12, FF:10; Fort:+4 Ref:+2 Will:+2; Init+2; Perception +5) (Effects: None)

Barret will happily chop firewood. He will strip himself of his armor so as to not constrict his muscles while doing so. Showing off is an unexpected side benefit, of course. He finds and picks up a woodcutting axe and starts splitting up chunks of wood.

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

Tre is rather shocked when offered Professor Crowl's book, his eyes open wide, as he looks at Master Ghoroven. Slowly he starts, "S..So you are offering to sell me one of the Professor's books, but isn't it his book, what with it still having his mark on it. How did you get it? for all I was offering was to return it to the man who's mark lays claim to it?", his curiosity peeked as he looks across at Dillan questioningly.

Megan:

Other than the tome, Tre will beg the wizard's permission to leave and saying that he doesn't have much money with him and will return if he can draw on some funds to maybe purchase the wands. Tre will return to Kendra's and let the others know about Master Ghoroven and his shop, with the scrolls, wands and scant details about the book.

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

Dillan looks back at Tre, don't think it would be wise to knock him out and take it, he thinks to himself hoping his interpreting Tre's expression correctly. But knowing that not to be a wise action, and perhaps maybe the elf wasn't thinking that; the rogue just shrugs his shoulders waiting for their business to conclude.

Dillan has nothing really to do here, he's just along for the ride so whenever Tre is good he's good.

female human oracle of battle 4

I'm guessing somewhere called the Laughing Demon wouldn't be Merian's first choice, so what's the Outward Inn look like?

Male Human Fighter 2

Seeing Merian's reaction to the name of the tavern he says, "Although the Laughing Demon would probably be more my style I am more than willing to go where-ever you would be more comfortable. Let us go enjoy some food and drink at the Outward then."

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

Master Ghoroven looks somewhat indignant.

"My dear sir," he splutters, "Whilst the book may have once belonged to Crowl, I purchased it from someone else, one of my regular suppliers of magical materials..."

You get the distinct impression while that may very well have been the case, Ghoroven himself may have suspected that it did not honestly come into the possession of the fellow that sold it to him!

As for the Outward Inn, it's a respectable looking place of two floors with a basement tavern. The top floor is guest accommodation, the ground floor is used for eating. It's run by a lady called Sarianna Vai, who enjoys music and encourages those who can play or sing to perform for her guests.

female human oracle of battle 4

Merian smiles as she enters the Outward Inn, not least in appreciation of the pun. "This looks like a fine place," she says, glancing sidelong at Arturin. "Up for a turn on the stage?" she adds, grinning with mischief.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

A greying lady comes up to you, Merian and Arturin, as you enter the Outwards Inn.

"Good evening," she says. "I'm Sarianna, the owner. What'll it be? Dinner tonight is a hunter's chicken stew with dumplings. Or maybe you just wish to drink?"

female human oracle of battle 4

Merian's stomach rumbles at the word 'stew,' and she uses that to make her decision. "Some of both, I think," she smiles back at the other woman.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

A pleasant evening ensues. The stew is tasty, and both ale and wine are available. Towards the end of the night, regulars entreat Sarianna to sing, and eventually she does so, a fine mezzo-soprano with a voice that is strong and beautiful to hear.

Arturin, do you want to perform?

What of everyone else?

Male Human Fighter 2

As Sarianna signals for Arturin to come up on stage and join her he initially balks at the request. "I haven't sung a proper song in years but maybe she knows the Maiden of Trendul, I used to sing that one all the time in my youth."
Wisdom Check to really know if this is a good idea or not: 1d20 ⇒ 5. <-Guess who is going up on stage!
Having a few drinks and a full belly certainly helps with the bravery to get up on stage. He says to Sarianna as he climbs up on stage, "I fear that this may not be the best rendition but lets have a go at it, you are familiar with the Maiden of Trendul?" Arturin tries his best to match pitch and produce a decent sound forgetting only a few of the words.

"I do apologise, my mistake, I didn't mean to besmearch your name, it was just my excitment at discovering such knowledge here. may I borrow the book this night to discover some small benefit of its teachings. As for the wands, I will have to fetch some money, but maybe I could raise 50gp for the two?" A rather contrite elf, starts his move towards the door, smoothing down his cloths, dallying as he waits for an answer.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

"I'm ideally looking for 40gp each, but if you want both, shall we say 60gp for them?" says Master Ghoroven. "As for the book, you are staying at the Lorrimor place, are you not? You may borrow it."

He ushers you out, showing no signs of bearing a grudge.

Where now?

Meanwhile, in the Outward Inn...

Arturin's song is well-received even if it is less expert than he might have liked.

Sarianna then teaches him a love song:

I will give my love an apple without e'er a core
I will give my love a house without e'er a door,
I will give my love a palace wherein she may be,
But she may unlock it without any key.

My head is the apple without e'er a core,
My mind is the house without e'er a door.
My heart is the palace wherein she may be
And she may unlock it without e'er a key.

DM remembers being taught it by a world-class opera singer who lived down the road when she was a kid!

Male Human Fighter 2

"Many thanks to you Sarianna for this enjoyable evening. Perhaps I shall return and perform with you once I have had a chance to practice this new song. Having an ear to the goings on of the townsfolk I wonder if you might have any feelings or have overheard anything about the death of Petros Lorrimor or this defacing of the statue? These are obviously very unpleasant things to happen in this small community."

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

Tre returns with the Tome and begins to study it when he gets back, taking copious notes. When the others return, he tells them what transpired at the teachers, and the wands and price....

If Dillan wants to go off somewhere else, Tre wishes him good luck and heads back by himself to Kendra's house.

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

Dillan continues along with Tre', his fear of the local humans and their numbers keeping him from venturing off on his own. He finds comfort back at Kendras' house and finds ways of making himself busy with any tasks she may need help with.

Liberty's Edge

Female Depemds on the game system (human in the real world)

For those dining at the Lorrimer house, Kendra has prepared a rabbit and tomato stew, with fresh bread to mop up the sauce. There's a nice fire in the lounge, courtesy of Barret who has been chopping wood - Kendra reckons his enthusiasm for the task has provided the better part of a month's worth!

If Dillan in his turn wishes to be helpful around the house, there's always the washing-up! Or if that is too domestic, Kendra would be grateful if he would check the oil in the lamps that she has in every room, refilling as necessary.

Sarianna says that whilst the recent death and vandalism are most distressing, she has nothing to contribute... but that this is the sort of place where minor unpleasantnesses tend to occur.

There is a thunderstorm during the night, seemingly centred over the ruined gaol...

Kellid Mooncursed 1 (HP 15/15; AC:12, T:12, FF:10; Fort:+4 Ref:+2 Will:+2; Init+2; Perception +5) (Effects: None)

Barret just grins when Kendra mentions his efforts. He eats up the supper heartily as always. If there is any mulled wine left, he will offer to drink with whoever is at the house still. Talking to him, you get the feeling that he is an open book(ironic as that may be), unabashed about any questions you have. Afterwards, he will stomp up the stairs and off to bed.

Male Half-Elf Rogue/ 4

Dillan will refill the lamps, besides the task will allow him to become more familiar with the house...perhaps there are some hidden passages or more...

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 +4 (27) for anything concealed/hidden! Love that Rogue Talent!

Male Elf Wizard (necromancy/undead)/4 HPs 24/24

After a day of intense learning, the storm disturbs Tre's meditation. He tosses and turns as the sound of the rain pounds the window, the lashing winds howl of ghosts and demons of the night. At some point in the night, he lights a lamp and gingerly makes his way downstairs. He draws some water and takes a drink, before returning upstairs to bed. He looks out of the window, seeing the storms might and where it appears to be centered. Speaking to himself he paces in front of the window. "Ill omens, the evil that lurks is centered on that goal, whatever we must investigate there. These disturbances will surely make the townsfolk even more suspicious of our presence here. Something in that old ruin moves...." With the blackest thoughts, Tre lies down to rest once more, though he continues to go over in his mind all that has transpired in this town.

female human oracle of battle 4

Merian sings happily along to Arturin's performance, but demurs when offered the chance to sing herself. She nurses her one ale all night, though she takes to the stew with relish. At long last, though, she steers her companion toward the door, with compliments to the innkeeper on the fine food and her excellent voice.
