Cedany finds a variety of clothing like items and copious watch chains and vests of all things. Apparently this gnome's fashion sense is similar pant/shirt - new vest/chain every day.
Tirkala and Lucky look over the documents, widgets tools and so on. Lucky finds not traps but the drawer is "locked"...
Can I get Linguistics from Tirkala and Harrison please? Dis Device from Harrison too.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Harrison would reach into his coat and pull out a set of fine thieves' tools and set to work trying to open the drawer with practiced ease.
Disable Device - Take 10 for a 22
Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Master of Absalom Devon |

Tirkala has no skill in Linguistics and it can't be used untrained. Can she use a spell instead? She has Comprehend Languages.
Mhmm, good point. dont waste the spell, its more about noticing something about what is in the writing than comprehending its contents if that makes sense...in that case you can make a straight Int check...

Master of Absalom Devon |

Weekend posting can be hit or miss for me, sorry. Toddler and wife in grad school. Just an FYI
A click here, a lifter hidden latch there and there is success! Harrison pulls a drawer open that has:
1 Key (Magic) (transmutation) (Does not look like the others)
1 Leather Portfolio w/ papers. This portfolio features a small and intricate lock. (No Magic)
1 small box (approx 6 inches by 6 inches) with elaborate woodwork in the form of gears and clockwork. This box also features a small and intricate lock. (No magic)

"The Lucky Halfling" |

"Indeed, there was a hidden drawer down here with a few items of interest." As he speaks, he'll gingerly place each of the items he has found on the table before taking some time to examine each a bit more thoroughly for any signs of danger.
Perception on Key: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Perception on Portfolio and it's lock: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Perception on Small Box and it's lock: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
If he finds nothing of further interest, he'll go about trying to open each of the locks. First he'll take a moment to see if the key will fit either. If it does not, he'll work on opening the portfolio before moving on to the box.
Take 10 for a 22 on Portfolio's lock.
Take 10 for a 22 on the Small Box's lock.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Harrison would look at the objects with a forlorn look upon his face. It was not often that such objects proved beyond his skill.
However, instead of allowing his disappointment to keep him down, he would suddenly pick up the box once more and give it another shot.
I'll take 10 for a 22, which I will then boost to a 27 by spending a hero point. (+4 from Hero Point, +1 from Fate's Favored)
Roll to see if I don't actually lose a Hero Point: 1d20 ⇒ 18
18 means I keep my Hero Point.

Master of Absalom Devon |

A surge of inspiration later Lucky hears the satisfying *click* of the minature but remarkably strong lock.
The box holds a series of metal plates upon which images of other gnomes and a few non-gnomes stand posed as though for painting. The fidelty and "realness" of the images are almost unnerving. Think high def tintype A few obvious pieces of correspondence from another party and a brooch are the only other objects in the box.
The brooch is a handsome piece featuring a tooled bird in an exotic metal with gemstone feathers and eyes. It is certainly a more "feminine" piece by most standards and it appears to be most valuable.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Harrison would take a close look at the items he found in the box.
Perception with Archaeologist's Luck: 1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 10 + 3 = 23
Appraise with Archaeologist's Luck: 1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 3 = 15 +2 Int for a 17.
Not sure what I conclude from it all.
Harrison will give the other lock a try now.
I'll take 10 for a 22, which I will then boost to a 27 by spending a hero point. (+4 from Hero Point, +1 from Fate's Favored)
Let's see if I lose the Hero Point.: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Lost it that time. I'm down to 3.

Master of Absalom Devon |

"This would go nicely in my bed..." She whispers, hoping the others don't hear.
LOL
Harrison's best gues is a bit of a wild estimate that the brooch could command as much as 35,000 gp based on various factors.
The portfolio releases with a satisfying *click*. Within are documents of obvious importance; Will, deeds and titles and a few bond documents that list monetary assets in various parts of Korvosa. It is plain that whatever his interest in watches and clockwork, Bastqualmie Moondew is a fairly rich gnome...or in some circles Harrison is a rich halfling as he now has the holding documents in his hands...

Tirkala Wren |

Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Tirkala looked at the documents Harrison uncovered, keeping up her ability to detect magic and trying to discern if any of them were magical. Just in case they turned out to be of use to her... er, just in case they needed protecting.
Creak
Tirkala's head shot up as soon as she heard it. She immediately began to signal to the others, using the system devised by Osk, that there was someone on the stairs. She also pointed to her eyes, clenched her fist, and made a semi-arcane gesture; she hoped they understood her message.
Now, she just had to sound casual...
Bluff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
"We might want to bring these papers with us; our employer may want to see them. Anything else of value within this room?"
Even as she spoke, she raised her hands, tensing and ready to unleash arcane magic as soon as someone came through the door.
Readied action: Cast flare on person to come through the door.

Maeltheron Timmerond |

Mael moves quickly and silently to the door while sliding his Curveblade free. He positions himself to attack who or what comes through the opening.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Harrison would be too engrossed in looking over the documents while maintaining his own spell to notice the noise outside the door.
These documents could be of some use, but it's not wise to count your blessings before they have come to fruition, he would think to himself.
Then, as Tirkala draws all of their attention to the presence of an unwanted guiest, Harrison would put all of the documents he has just found into his other hand with the portfolio before invoking a spell to vanish from sight.
Cast Vanish
If he still has still has time, he'll snatch up the box and it's contents and push them into his jacket to make them disappear from sight as well.
Please let me know how much I accompish.

![]() |

Martin with a silent nod to Mael, Takes up the opposite side of the door as him, also slipping into the shadows. Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26 Martin Ducks down with his Umbrite Kurki in hand ready to swing at the legs of whatever opens the door. He leaves the Tower Shield leaning against the door.

Master of Absalom Devon |

To clarify Tirkala would have noted that the sound came from downstairs, and there is no door on the stairway. So I will assume you do all your actions relative to the stair case. That said, if someone were to climb the stairs they would expose their head to you before anything else which may help explain what happens next...
Martin and Mael blend into the shadows around them, silent and ready to strike. Tirkala holds up her hand and anticipation while Harrison casts his spell and disappears as he scoops up the other objects of interest as Cedany waits from her position.
Round 1
So here is how I have been handling initiative. I roll for everyone and you end up in "blocks" relative to the enemy. (Most enemies will be all one block except in the case of named NPCs where combat might be more "dynamic". Within each block it is first come, first post to act. So for instance:
Martin: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Maeltheron: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Tirkala: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Lucky: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Cedany: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Gm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Mael, Tirk and Lucky are Block 1
GM is NPC Block
Cedany and Marting are Block 2.
The group preps, there is a pause (my action) and now top of the round. Block 1 is up.

Master of Absalom Devon |

Funny enough I have an analog map but not the resources to put it up...I will wrap my head around that in the next couple of days and no, I should be clearer in the meantime, no head popping up, and for Mael/Martin no obvious presence on the stairs in general ( you would need to move to the top stair to really see down the staircase, which I assume neither of you would have done for obvious reasons.) Feel free to act with this information, I will get a handle on the map situation.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

So the other door looks like it might go to a closet?
Finally, Harrison would pull a dagger from one of his wrists sheaths while stealthily moving beneath the desk and behind Tirkala's legs (C3).
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

"The Lucky Halfling" |

"The Lucky Halfling" wrote:YEah or something in that vein. Big enough that someone/something could be in there but of questionable space for much "activity"So the other door looks like it might go to a closet?
I'm just thinking of the Tardis right now. "It's smaller on the outside!"

Tirkala Wren |

Tirkala sighed, silently. It seemed no one was coming up... Time to get creative!
Bluff: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
"Too bad we didn't find what we were looking for... I bet this journal we found would be of use to someone. So much information about the criminal underbelly... So, shall we get out of here and burn this place down? Just to send a message about how this is our turf now..."
That should get some interest!

Master of Absalom Devon |

Silence greets the sorcerer as the group continues to trade glances. On a side note "timing" can be an issue with PbP as far as sense of time. Harrison, don't expend the Vanish, it would be obvious in the narrative that things aren't happening fast enough to warrant the spell.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Alright, well Harrison will be a bit more meticulous in his actions then. They will go as follows:
- He'll place the documents back into the portfoilo and lock it before placing it on the table.
- He'll remove his backpack and place it on the floor at his feet.
- He'll remove his sleeves of many garments, allowing his garments to shift back to their normal form (Entertainer's Outfit), and place them on the table.
- He'll pick up the pendant and key, loop the pendant's chain through the key, place the chain around his neck, and slide it beneath his clothing.
- He'll pick up the portfolio and slip it into his shirt.
- He'll pick up the sleeves and put them back on. This time his clothing will shift into a fine nobleman's outfit with a elegant shirt that rises up his neckline to conceal the chain that lies there, a tight fitting vest that will secure the portfolio to his chest and help hide it away, an exquisite jacket to offer further concealment to the items and draw attention, and other various items to help finish the ensemble.
- He'll relock the box, place it into his backpack, and finally slip it over his shoulder.
He all of this with practiced ease as if he is familiar with doing such.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Maeltheron Timmerond |

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Flanking the door with Martin, Mael motions silently that the enemy has drawn and points in the direction of the noise.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Master of Absalom Devon |

To clarify Meel was saying he heard someone draw a weapon. When he points he would be pointing down the stairs, which come up on an open landing. No door here. I apologize for the confusion.

Cedany |

Can Cedany get a good enough view from where is, if there's an invisible opponent there would casting "create water" as a momentary "rainfall" over the area, give us a rough idea where he is (not expecting it to remove all attack penalties or anything, just a space to target?).

Master of Absalom Devon |

The catch-22 here is that because the stairs are steep and narrow chances are whoever is down there can't see you (unless they were right on top of you which Mael can be relatively certain is not the case, the sound he heard was downstairs) but you can't really see down without sort of peeking "down" and "around". If you have ever been in a pre-1940s style house that might be helpful...well for my American players, not sure if any of you are international....anyway without poking your head out you can't really see down. Everybody basically has another rounds worth of actions. Let me know what you are going to do.

"The Lucky Halfling" |

Whoops, it was a brooch not an amulet. He'll have put it on the inside of his clothing and fashioned a secret pocket along the interior of his clothing to hide the key in. That way both are out of sight. Otherwise...
Harrison would look to the others and use their hand signals to ask, "Do you want me to investigate?"

Master of Absalom Devon |

Beg your pardon it does, not clear from my map I am sure. Two on the southern edge, one on the northern. The southern ones are big enough that someone would fit through easily when open. The northern one (which casts light on the staircase) is more "halfling" sized were one wanting to climb out. Ugh sorry guys I feel like I have made this way harder than it should be LOL, it will be smoother next encounter.
