Alex Traza |
So way back on page 25, we found this armor and we figured out it was +1 scale mail. Now that we have a minute we should put it on Bambara. Maybe not this second if we want to go grab the other piece of notable loot, but we should soon.
I rummage through my pack and pull out the suit of armor.
My my. Between the suit, the bolts, and the ring this has been a good day, in spite of its trials.
Chui Nyeusi |
Chui, Goodberry heals 1 point of damage per berry eaten. The 2d4 is the amount of berries that are produced by the spell.
Good to know, I'll just go ahead and eat both berries, which should bring me to full.
Did Chui ever figure out the shiny thing on the floor?
Chui Nyeusi |
Chui responds to Alex's comments ...
Yes, we've found some nice stuff, but we haven't dealt with the primary threat here, the div.
I'd like to suggest a short operational pause. We pull back from the Necropolis for an hour or so. Bam, puts on his pretty new armor, and we buy a six-pack of Oil of Bless Weapon. Then we come back and turn the div into chutney
Thoughts?
Alex Traza |
I don't think we will be bothered by the div, who is named Imanish, anymore. While you were fighting the dog the two of us managed to find an understanding. This place is his home, I simply stated that once we left we would not be back and if he left for a few hours we could do our thing and he could do his. I didn't find him to be that dangerous, he is just a prankster. Bam and I are immune to the effects of his spells and melee combat is beneath him. Also even if we got blessed oils we would still need to be able to deal with his ability to go invisible, fly away, and wait out the oil then reengage. He doesn't have pockets so he will have no loot himself, and all of that stuff sounds very expensive for no gain. I say we stay and search then leave for good.
Harmini Wakestep |
Harmini shakes her head at Chui.
While I don't think we should underestimate the powers of the Div... or bargain with it for that matter, I'm afraid I have to agree with Alex. It isn't a very good idea to leave the creature here for any length of time to devise new methods of trickery for us to deal with upon our return. If it accosts us again, we simply kill it. We should also conclude our business and be done with this accursed place as quickly as possible.
Ugh. I can't believe I'm agreeing with the insane red-haired woman. With any luck, we won't encounter anything worse than we already have. Best be ready for anything though.
She squeezes her crossbow tightly, keeping it close at hand and loaded.
Alex Traza |
Underestimating Div, or for that matter anything that we meet, is something we shouldn't do. I want to make it clear that just because the two of us were talking, that doesn't mean that I liked that it messed with your mind.
At the time I did though, and this is not OK.
I was angry at you for dragging us around looking for something that clearly didn't exist and wasn't needed. When I saw the div I did want I thought I had to in order to keep everything from spiraling out of control. My anger was misplaced and my temper can cloud my judgement. I was wrong. And...I'm sorry.
I can hear the teachings of Apsu's now "Anger and pride are wings that will never fly". If I don't keep myself in check, we might end up like that group in the Mana Wastes. I will not make this mistake again.
Chui Nyeusi |
Chui cries a little inside.
People, we're in the middle of a tactical situation here. Can we save the true confessions for the bar.
By which point, I will hopefully be elsewhere, hard at work on my night job.
Bam, are you good with the "trust the div" and "sack the div's house now while he's still alive" plan proposed by our two esteemed colleagues?
At the very least, I want to torch this place and burn it down below its foundations when we leave.
Chui Nyeusi |
I can't open roll20 on my Mac right now, so I'm operating on my memory of the area we're in.
Excellent, Bam, nice, precise statement of objective there.
While the rest of you search for bling, I'm going to keep an eye and a nose open for "Mr. Flying About Evil Genie Head."
As much as is possible, I'd like to carefully move and direct my perception checks to the return of the div rather than possible loot.
There is a second outbuilding here and a well, let's hit them before we head back into the big house. And remember the snake under the table. Yes, they taste like chicken, but I'm not hungry right now.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
Backing up for a second to the shiny... Yes Chui could have taken the treasure he found. It consist of 7 gold coins, 3 silver coins, 12 copper coins, and a turquoise earring. I will add it to the treasure list.
Chui is keeping an eye out in the open yard. At the moment the only thing moving is the asp, though it is mainly just watching the group to make sure they keep their distance.
Who is taking over Chui's place in line while he keeps his eyes (and nose) open for dangers? And where are you going? Of note, whoever leaves should start with going to the well and then move on. It is empty.
Alex Traza |
If you are keeping an eye out for trouble then I think we can safely move on.
I move over to the well, careful not to startle the snake under the bench and finding that it is empty, I then start walking over to where I saw that ring.
I think its best if we secure that piece of magical gear. Then we search the rest of the house, then the rest of the structures outside.
Harmini Wakestep |
hmph... There's more out here I believe. It's important to be thorough.
I'm not going back in the main house just yet where that Div might be lurking. Let's investigate the rest of this courtyard first.
Harmini moves to the north slowly and quietly around the eastern side of the well to begin inspecting the northeastern courtyard structures.
Moved token on Roll20 map (Moving at half speed, avoiding the snake and providing cover for stealth).
Talalmackk Chirronna |
Alex, I moved you to the well while Harmini heads over to the next building.
Alex heads over to the well. It is mostly dried out and nothing appears to occupy it. You can see some decayed rope nearby and at the bottom a few broken pieces of wood that may have been a bucket.
Harmini heads over to the end of the outer building. She moves as silently as she can and peaks around the corner of the open doorway. Inside is a room similar to the area occupied by the death dog, though with no signs that anything has occupied it for years.
- 1d20 ⇒ 15
- 1d20 ⇒ 1
- 1d20 ⇒ 16
- 1d20 ⇒ 2
Alex Traza |
I did want to grab this ring before the div might decide to pick it up and then go through the doors up ahead and avoid the snake but if we want to search here first that's OK.
I move around the well and get next to Harmini to take a look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Stealth: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Alex Traza |
Before we go back inside, let’s see what’s in here I guess.
I check the door while listening for sounds behind it.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Once that happens I move to open the door but I stop, remember what Chui does when he moves around places like this, and I take 20 on the door. Only then do I open the door, if it’s safe.
Chui Nyeusi |
Alex is listening/checking for traps at the closed, northern door?
This is why I wanted to kill the dang thing NOW!
Foreseeing an explosive disaster, Chui sprints over to the door that Alex is fiddling with ...
Let's trade jobs good buddy. You watch for flying div death, and I'll check the doors for traps, OK?
Alex Traza |
Oops, forgot to move myself in d20, yes I am checking the northern door and I moved myself to where I would be while checking it.
Also, does the GM need/want to know how much money was in the bag that I dropped?
Sure lets swap, traps aren't my thing. You've got those eyes for detail, I'll admit that. What's your secret? Is it in your blood? Insane amounts of raw talent? Years of practice?
If he really is invisible then none of us will be able to see him anyway. Still, it doesn't hurt to keep an eye out.
I start looking around.
At least its a nice day.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
So, Alex and Chui are going to wrestle with who is responsible for the parties death?
Alex begins to listen at the door and seems poised to open it when Chui sees what is going on and moves to check the door. There is a lot of commotion as the two change places and Chui takes some time to check things out.
Chui Nyeusi |
Nifty, a target rich environment.
Chui backs up five feet and whispers to the others ...
Looks like a party beyond the doorway to the northeast. I'm going to sneak in and see if we're invited.
Chui motions for Bam to move up in case he didn't hear the whisper.
Once Bam is within fifteen feet, Chui will slide up to the door and take a stealthy peek inside.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
Chui heads over to the doorway to the northeast. Both he and Alex can clearly see inside, noticing the skeleton standing towards the back. Chui sees more around the corning, two more skeletons waiting in the dark quarters. As he approaches all three turn to face him, seeming to be aware of his approach.
There are three skeletons in the small space. There is no surprise though they have not moved from where they are. If you wish to take actions against them please roll initiative.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
I am sorry but for some reason my post from last night appears to have failed. None of the rolls will show but I remember the results... Chui dies! Just kidding, all were misses.
As Chui moves into the quarters the skeletons silently lurch forward to attack. The furthest reacts first, moving steadily forward and lashing out with its clawed hand. The claws fail to do more than scratch his armor. At the same time, the one visible from outside the building steps up and scrapes its claws more on his armor, sending splinters of bones falling to the floor.
Chui, your turn.
Chui Nyeusi |
I am sorry but for some reason my post from last night appears to have failed. None of the rolls will show but I remember the results... Chui dies! Just kidding, all were misses.
Chui can not die! He is an idea, an ideal, a paradigm of male catness - amoral, sex-crazed, thrill killer!
F* me, these are quick bone piles! I think I'll pick on the lazy
one.
Chui takes a five foot step to the north in order to full round the flat footed red skeleton.
Damage 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (4) = 9
Damage 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (2) = 5
Damage 1d4 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (5) = 8
Talalmackk Chirronna |
Chui steps into the fray and begins biting and clawing at the skeletal figures. His teeth crunch into the shoulder of the slow skeleton, shattering the bones and causing it to fall. He then turns to the next skeleton and his claws drive into its ribs. Several ribs break but the thing still stands.
The first attack dropped the one so I moved the next attacks to the second one. I did have to remove the extra damage, but still it hit.
Bambara the Fierce |
assuming that its my turn as chui killed the red skeleton and harminni delayed
I move into the doorway drawing longcut as I move
GAHH! More bonemen for bambara ta smash
lacksidasical slash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 131d10 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Harmini Wakestep |
Harmini sneaks into the entryway of the building nearby to take cover, raises her crossbow and keeps watch while the others handle the skeletons.
Hmmm... Better keep a lookout while the others handle this scuffle.
Free action - Perception vs a Div ambush. Standard Action - Ready an action to shoot the Div if it appears. Stealth Move 10' to take cover in the building entrance.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
Sorry for the delay. Had to catch up with work and spending time with wife.
Bambara fills the gap in the door way and slashes at the skeleton. His blade hits but the bone turns it aside with nothing more than a minor chip. The skeletons are relentless and return the attack with mindless devotion.
Chui and Bambara each face the wrath of one skeleton with the attacks drawing blood and sap, though only minor scrapes.
- Blue attacks Chui
- Blue Claw 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
- Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
- Blue Claw 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
- Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
- Green attacks Bambara
- Green Claw 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
- Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
- Green Claw 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
- Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Chui then Bam, feel free to go.
Chui Nyeusi |
Hey Big Veg, bet I pulverize my skeleton more than you pulverize yours.
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Edited to include Bless to hit bonus.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
Chui flashes a smile before he snaps his jaws around the neck of the skeleton in front of him. The bones crush in his mouth and it slumps to the floor. He then slashes out with his claws on the other skeleton, tearing through its ribs and spine. With a clattering sound the bones all fall to the floor.
Considering the current BLESS spell counting down, I am willing to stay in rounds if you are. Bambara, your action unless we want to step out of initiative.
Harmini Wakestep |
Doesn't matter to me one way or the other whether we stay in rounds or not.
Harmini steps out from her hiding spot and enters the room full of Chui's carnage to inspect it.
My My, I do like efficiency. Stupid questions on the other hand...
Perception to search the room. Knowledge religion to determine if the skeletons actually are/have anything important to learn.
I highly doubt these leftovers represent any kind of importance, Alex. They didn't even have any weapons. Sometimes a skeleton is just a skeleton, I'm afraid... Worthless. Let's keep looking for valuables, shall we?
Alex Traza |
I catch myself thinking out loud and turn to smile at Harmini.
Of course. You're are certainly correct. Sometimes a skeleton is just a skeleton.
Ahh yes. Skeletons raise by the areas lingering necromatic energy. Now that I think of it, haunt are more likely to form in places that already have bad energies about them. The energy that created these raddlers might have appeared after this area was lost to the plauge, but what if it wasn't. What if the aura was here before? If so that could mean...no, I shouldn't get too excited so easily and its far too soon anyway. I am not ready. Not yet.
Yes, let us continue.
Talalmackk Chirronna |
While you search around, you hear light scratching and what sound like a large group of insects crawling in the chamber to the west.
As for any significance these skeletons had, it is common to find animated mindless undead in the necropolis. The death and madness left from the plague have suffused the necropolis with evil and negative energy. It may have taken some time for these particular examples to rise but the energy abundant here is the most likely cause.
