Wulfgar Ivarsson |
Seeing the decaying hyena Wuflgar turns to Grenz, "Beink an expert on gnolls I am not, but I believe gnolls are keepink pet of Hyena's, so If two headed giants are eatink hyena's they probably were not comRades of the gnolls." he shrugs, "Just sharink uneducated opinion, dah, comRade."
Seeing the dilapidated chest, he carefully inspects the pile of furs and chest searching for traps.

brvheart |

hmmm, you do notice that the chest can be opened without unlocking it as it has no hinges

brvheart |

The chest holds the ettins’ valuables:
a dire goat skull, a harpsichord, 6 cold iron throwing stars, a huge
wooden mallet, a bag of 564 sp, 34 gp and 4 pp, a silver masterwork
halberd, a bag of corncobs, 50 feet of hemp rope, a dead vulture
puppet, and 4 jars

Roylenna Flamefoot |

The halfling girl softly asks, "Grenz, you detected dweomers in this room?"
She looks doubtfully at the bag of corncobs. "If they had something magical, it would appear to have been unintentional."

Grenz |

"You are probably right my friend - though I find it strange they just ran past them without being mauled" - the half-orc shrugs.
The halfling girl softly asks, "Grenz, you detected dweomers in this room?"
She looks doubtfully at the bag of corncobs. "If they had something magical, it would appear to have been unintentional."
"I did" - the half-orc nods.
Tolbold is now also using Detect Magic, so we should know if there are any auras around soon ;)

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
On Roll 20 brv said the shield and jars are magical, but Wulfgar doesn't know that yet.
Smiling and nodding at Grenz, Wulfgar stuffs the harpsichord, 6 cold iron throwing stars in the bag with the 564 sp, 34 gp and 4 pp. Stuffing the bag into his pack then tying the silver masterwork halberd to the pack, he gestures at the other items. "I am doubtink if corncob, or puppet or skull are worth takink."
He then goes over to the table and starts scrapping the dead hyena off of the shield. "Bwa ha ha takink the servink platter we are dah comRades?" He turns to the others, "Who can be wantink this once we are cleanink it up?"

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
Smiling as Grenz claims the puppet, then gestures at the jars, "I am sorrrrry I was not pickink up jars comRades, I was not thinkink they were of value." he then adds the jars to his pack.
Gesturing out the door, he asks, "Shall we be continuink" moving out of the room he crosses the greatroom to the doorway directly across from the one they left. moving to 3-3
First listening for any noise inside, then checking the door for traps, if he hears nothing and finds no traps he then tries the door latch to see if it's locked.

There are no traps. The shield if cleaned up is +2. The jars are 4 jars of restorative ointment.

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
retcon
seeing Tobold raise his hands and tell them to wait, Wulfgar nods and hands Tobald the jars and holds the shield where he can see it, wiping the blood off the best he can. "My apologies comRade, meanink to be in a haste I was not."

Not finding any traps, Wulfgar opens the door and looks inside.

This room houses 25 gnoll youth. The place is a shambles of
broken furniture and rubbish. Two small barricades of furniture sit
along opposite walls. The gnoll youth form into teams behind the
makeshift forts to launch javelins at one another.

Roylenna Flamefoot |

”Close the door. We need not expend our energy and resources on younglings. Foes more worthy await. Perhaps we can barricade or lock the door.”

Roylenna Flamefoot |

"Perhaps Master Tobold can magically hold it shut for the time being?" She looks at the other halfling questioningly.
Does anyone every prepare arcane lock or hold portal? Are they even still available spells anymore?

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
Looking from Tobold to Roylenna, "Well comRades Tobold, if castink spells is not workink, maybe a mundane method is to our likink."
Turning to Grenz, then Dalgrym and Ulfgard, "ComRades are one of you able to be spikink the door? Or shall we be movink on hopink the pups will not be attackink us when we leave? Dah?"

Grenz |

"Locking them inside would be the same as starving them without a chance" - Grenz grunts - "Let us leave the door open - that way they at least will get a chance to survive somehow out there... Maybe" - he stares for a few moments, one of the black furred pups catching his assistance. But then he just walks away.
I just realized I had actually built Grenz to be kind of a scout as well as a supporter/melee DUH! Exactly because the group had no scout :P
Have we explored all the rooms here brvheart? If yes, Grenz will move to the northern B area to peer down the stairs. Otherwise, let us go to the next room.

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
I think we have only inspected 3-2 and 3-3 does the stairs go up or down, I thought it was a mirror image of where we came down. Grenz, Wulfgar is just opening doors to keep things moving, if you want to take point that would be fine :)
Shrugging Wulfgar moves towards the door in the southwest corner whil Grenz inspects the steps. "Leavink the door open is an option, comRade. Hopefully the younglings are smart enough to not be attackink us from our behinds, Dah."
Nearing the door listening for any noise inside, then checking the door for traps, if he hears nothing and finds no traps he then tries the door latch to see if it's locked.

Roylenna Flamefoot |

So far, you're pretty pushy, but it's keeping things moving and I'm not complaining. In this instance, I thought we were taking a vote.
"I have an uncle that might have opened a few locked doors in his time. He told me about using a thin piece of steel to slide between the door and its frame to lift a bar from its stays. He said it was an easy trick to foil with a decently-designed door, but he loved to try."
"If someone barred it from the other side to keep the ettins out, it's going to be a pretty stout portal. Perhaps they will open it if they know the ettins are gone. On the other hand, if they are down here and afraid of the ettins, how do they have enough freedom to bar the door?"
"I doubt there's any harm in knocking first. It's not like they wouldn't have heard the battle."

Wulfgar Ivarsson |

sorry, Grenz has disable device, Wulfgar doesn't. I was asking more for 'in game' discussion about what to do. If we wait for everyone to vote' we will be here all week, Three of us have commented which is half, that's good enough for me. I you all want me to wait until everyone chimes in let me know and I will slow down.
Turning and listening to Roylenna Wulfgar nods, "Dah comRade, only one way to be findink out." He then hammers three loud knocks on the door with the butt of his hammer.

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
Wulfgar shrugs his shoulders, " ComRades, answerink the door no one is dah? Shall we be tryink a different method?" He then repeatedly attempts to smash the door down using his hammer.
not sure about breaking doors, a strength roll I assume or should I attack it for damage?

With that Wulfgar busts open the door to reveal a hallway with 2 doors.

Wulfgar Ivarsson |
After knocking the door down, seeing the doorways in the hall, wulfgar chuckles, Bwah ha ha, we are findink more doors comRades." he then approaches the left hand door listening for any noise inside, then checking the door for traps, if he hears nothing and finds no traps he then tries the door latch to see if it's locked.
