The undead thugs and bandits charge your front line, several of them still swinging weapons they used when they were alive. Deftly, Jediah impales the two closest to him as they shamble forwards into his reach, cutting them down easily, leaving the area before him open for his own coutner attack. The rest of the zombies literally crash into your shields as their clawing hands and flailing weapons reach menacingly for your flesh. Unfortunately, Zethyris and Julian are unable to fend them off as they tear clothes and rip flesh (Zeth 6 damage, Julian 8+10=18 damage), their dead eyes staring hungrily at the fresh red blood. Seemingly from nowhere Isham is struck by two daggers, one rebounds harmlessly off of his armours shoulder but the other sneaks in just above the collar slashing through his throat and narrowly missing his artery my mere millimeters (18 damage), "Muah ha! You seem to like hearing your own voice a little too much. ha ha ha!" as Margave appears in two locations at once! Nervously Zethyris and Ana watch Rose for signs that she is resisting the mind control but it seems fruitless as the glow remains and she moves slightly to slash both Ana and Montulo in the back (Ana 5 damage, Montulo 2) with her sharp little daggers, (Montulo)"Guah! What was that?"

Zeth your up...

Moving quickly to engage Rose, Zethyris springs backwards into a roll before standing back up behind Rose. Quickly he slashes Rose's feet out from under her, while avoiding he retaliatory dagger, causing her to fall to the ground. The spellcaster in the rear chants something before pointing at Skallagbiorn who suddenly erupts in flames. As the fires dance across his body he furiously bats and slaps at the flames dousing them before they can catch but still remains singed from the event (6 fire damage). Montulo quickly acts, slashing down the first zombie to exit the cave before it has a chance to connect. Jediah's now burning glaive cuts down another zombie before him as the stone blade parts the rotten flesh with sizzling ease. Julian dives past the zombies attacking him and comes up with his bow ready to fire upon the nearest Margrave, the arrow flies true and buries itself in Margrave's arm. Thorvald, seeing Rose drop to the ground takes the time, between defending himself from hungry zombies, to pull the rope from his gear and toss it towards Ana and Zethyris suffering a gash from the zombie wielding a greataxe for his efforts (9 damage). Rutilux lets his flail come crashing down like three meteors upon the zombie he wounded previously, crushing its skull and sending it slumping to the ground. Calling upon the wrath of Gorum with a mighty bellow, a surge of divine energy erupts from Skallagbiorn crashing against the assembled zombies, breaking down and burning away large portions of their bodies but only reduces one to ash. Isham moves forward to join up with Rutilux and everyone else and swings at the armoured man, his northern axe tearing a line in the man's chain and drawing blood from beneath. Ana, not sure if the other Margrave is an illusion or not fires twin bolts of force at each of them. The one on the left fades away like a shadow while the one on the right takes the bolt dead on. The three undead armed with ranged weapons fire, missing Jediah and Julian but Isham isnt as lucky as he takes an arrow in the shoulder, just above his shield (7 damage).

I thought the intention was that Thorvald would smack her into unconsciousness, after which time I would tie her up. The trip was merely to keep her less of a problem until then.

Last round: Thorvald proceeded to smack Rose into unconsciousness after dropping Winters-bane

Undeterred by the damage already upon them the zombies continue their frenzied attacks and the remaining zombies close in. Two zombies fall to Jediah's smoldering glaive before they reach him. Despite their many flailing limbs and weapons only Rutilux takes a wound on the front line (9 damage)[/dice]. Behind, one zombie advances and manages to bite a large chunk out of Montulo's arm. Margrave launches two more daggers, this time at Julian. The first one misses but the second buries itself in Julians upper thigh [ooc](6 damage) before moving away from everyone. The black-clad warrior swings his heavy cleaver in a wide arc aiming for both Isham and Rutilux but even injured Isham manages to pull back out of the way, pulling Rutilux out of the weapons swing as he does so. Sensing trouble, and doubting Rose will be waking up any time soon, Zethyris moves lithely and tries to slip behind the black-clad warrior but his timing is off and his thin blade skips off the man's chain harmlessly just as the man's axe crashes into the ground where he was moving seconds ago. The spellcaster seeing their ambush quickly turning into a route utters a quick spell before disappearing. Montulo deftly finishes off the two zombies attacting from the rear before hollaring over his shoulder, "I hear more coming. How is it going on your side?" Jediah repositions himself and tears apart the zombie standing in front of Skallagbiorn. Julian brushes past the zombies attacking him to get a better shot at Margrave and plants his arrow deftly in the man's hip causing him to weeze and curse in pain. Rounding on the zombie still attacking him, Thorvald swings twice with his mighty claws tearing off several chunks and then felling it with his second strike. Rutilux swings his flail connecting with the meaty shoulder of the zombie before him but the tissue seems to absorb some of the blow causing the zombie to survive what should have destroyed it. Drawing upon the last of his holy energy Skallagbiorn once more lets his body become a conduit for his gods wrath as the two remaining zombies near by are turned to ash. Isham pulls back and quaffs his healing potion (normally requires a standard action to get anything out of a pack or bag but i'll waive it this time). Refusing to let Margrave get away, Anastasiya fires off another pair of bolts of seeking force that crash into him and send him flying.

As Margrave crashes to the ground the amulet around his neck shatters and the remaining zombies drop and become inanimate bodies once again, including the man in the armour. Strangely, as you watch, Margrave's face shimmers and fades revealing the bloody face of Rolf who lies coughing up blood dying, "huff, huff, he... he caught me after you le...left..." and with that Rolf's blood flows out into the dirt and snow around him.

She looks over her shoulder into the cave, to check whether any more people are coming out.
Just want to make sure that the people Montulo herd coming aren't coming any more, now that the the amulet is destroyed.

When she sees no more danger from the caves, she slowly advances towards Margrave, still with that smug smile on her face. Then she sees his face change.

What the ...? I knew it all along, that it was you, Samuel ... Wait ... that isn't Samuel's face either ...
"Rolf?! Oh, no. I'm sorry ... I didn't mean to ... Skallangbiorn! come here, quick! This man needs help! Save him. He's a friend."

Unable to help the dying Rolf herself, she instead casts detect magic and starts looking for lingering auras - to figure out what spell(s) Rolf had been under, and where the real Margrave might me.

Skallangbiorn sets his jaw, his own wounds weeping glorious rivers of blood dedicated to Gorum. His pain is a song of victory. The cleric moves to the fallen man that up until that moment had been the leader of their foes. There is a part of him that considers this 'Rolf' could be in league with Maargave's men. But he would not know the truth of it should the man die. At the least he would have information. He reaches into his gear and withdraws some field dressings.

"I will cease the loss of blood, then see if he can be made to explain himself."

Skall's ministration is not gentle. His 6" 5' frame looks more like a bear crouching over food than a healer. "Someone should keep watch on the pathway there. There will be more enemies if Gorum is generous."

He points to the fallen man upon which he operates. "Who knows this man and will stand for him. I will not give Gorum's blessing of healing to an enemy."

I've got one cmw and one clw left...choose wisely...;) Also, Skall is a hardcase...you'll note his ritualistic scarring and the style of his clothing mark him as a cleric of Gorum, but also a Black Raven.

Ana explains to Skall, while kneeling next to him and Rolf and scanning for magic: "A bandit, just as Zethyris said. He and his band attacked us. We won. He led us here, in exchange for sparing his life and the life of his men. I will stand for him. He was a minion of one of Margrave's minions. But he is intelligent - far too intelligent to betray us to Margrave now. Margrave knows that Rolf betrayed him once. Margrave tried to kill Rolf and failed. There is nothing left here for Rolf to gain. As I said: he has no choice but to be our friend. At least as long as Margrave lives."

The cavalier consider it. His own senses aren't half so keen as Zeth or Julian. "Zethrys? Would you lend your eyes to that path? So far, I am not overly proud of my own record at noting movements in the shadows." He touches the wound on his neck lightly as if to illustrate.

Followers of Gorum aren't known for gentle natures. This cleric lives up to the tales in that, but then again, we owe him our lives I think. Rutilux waits until Ana speaks her own mind, and then adds,"He is an enemy forged into an ally, or so we hoped to make him. He spoke as if Margrave was the head of the snake of banditry in these lands... and as if he held the whip that kept them at it. With the threat of the Winter Witches, we thought some bandits might be willing to abandon old crimes and take up a cause that would yet serve all. I am not sure I speak for his character, but he did indeed guide us."

A pause, "And forgive my lack of manners. I should thank you for your aid against the undead. I'm Rutilux Talonn. In service to Lord Kodiakborne. If I've mentioned that already, pray forgive. I'm feeling somewhat addled"

Skallangbiorn nods, turning over Rutilux's words in his head. The cleric stands from where Rolf lay and reaches into his satchel to withdraw a vial of CLW. He hands it to Rutilux. "Drink it now." When the other man hesitates, the ulfen man shakes the vial more emphatically. "A sharpened weapon is all that is of any use." I'll leave it to you to roll the 1d8...

He turns back to the man they call Rolf and holds a hand over the top of him. Focusing his prayers, he discards the spell he'd committed and elects to cast a healing up on the fallen man. Cast CLW: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 (replacing my last level 1 spell) Once done, he looks to the woman. "I have given him his life back, now our lives are forfeit should he turn to betrayal. The balance of our lives can only be removed upon his commitment to your cause, or by my hands shedding his life upon the ground...or by our deaths."

"You, Speaker..." Skall points to Isham and motions him forward. Once the bard is in closer proximity, the cleric grants his last spell to the wounded man. Cast CMW: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12 (replacing my last level 2 spell)

Once he finishes, he reaches into his bag and withdraws another CLW potion, downing it himself. "I have one more remaining, should any require it." Potion of CLW: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Now, to see the bloody victory Gorum has earned this day... The cleric stands before the others. "I am Skallangbiorn son of Heiflmein, follower and weapon of Gorum, blood dedicated of the Blackravens. Do I have the right of it that you are all sworn of the Kodiakborne?"

Skallangbiorn ignores the smaller man, looking him up and down and recognizing him as a scout...perhaps an assassin.

Dude, this show's got everything...even ninjas!

"But for their bravado, a good scout is worth twice his weight in gold and any amount of annoyance." His cold gaze shifts to the half-elf in the party. Perhaps another scout? he wonders approvingly.

The cleric goes to his pack and withdraws his light crossbow, stringing it, cranking it and knocking a bolt. He slings his weapon and readies himself to move.

"Rolf led us here and he can lead us back out. This is his home turf so I hope he will survive to be our guide, but where is our true enemy?" the other Ulfen states.

The cleric looks down at Rolf as the man's form begins to stir after the stabilization and healing. He would hold out his judgement for the time being, but the use of criminals as fodder in the war effort was not unheard of...

He looks to the others, Jediah lastly. "You will take me to Savol the Kodiakborne at the conclusion of your mission in the field. Six of us were sent from Trollheim, all in different directions to cover the most land, so we could locate the Kodiakborne and learn his intentions. Attacks along the border have increased. We need to know if there are fit warriors rallying to his banner...or must we look elsewhere for leadership to drive back Irrisen. "About three months ago Trollheim was in an uproar, a mountain of a man arrived with several carts, the lead cart holding the fresh heads of two black Linnorm. After meeting with the head priest of my order he named the man 'Savol'."

Skallangbiorn's ministrations to Rolf's dying form manage to pull him back from the edge but only enough to keep him alive.
