Kereek shakes his head as the hodag chooses violence over kobold alliance. He steps back from the hodag and casts scorching ray!

Kereek gets an additional +2 that HE LOVES TO FORGET FOR SOME REASON from Prazil's challenge. Is he too proud to accept Prazil's hard-fought aid? I'm beginning to suspect this may be the case! =P

Prazil steps up closer to the hodag, trying to create an opening for Orin, who rushes in, barely avoiding the creature's teeth, and slams his blade onto its head, while Kereek burns it with a flaming brand.

Furious, the creature tears at Orin with claws, teeth and tail. 21 hp

The fight is over almost as quickly as it began, with Agnar's bow and Orin's blade making quick final work of the hodag.

In the den, you find three handaxes, one masterwork greataxe, a suit of +1 studded leather armor, and a +1 keen spear.

Prazil nods victoriously as the hodag falls. He then looks at his shield and holds it up in front of the wound the hodag scored upon him, as if trying to gauge where best to hold the shield to thwart future attacks. "Hmmm. Prazil am thinking maybe it am time for better shield. Oh well. Am everyone for being ok?"

Kereek shakes his head sadly. "Maybe they am called monsters for reason? If hodag am more smart, hodag am happier in Hartsland. Poor hodag."


Treshiell stops halfway through reapplying the proctective ward on Orin. Her pupils disappear and her eyes turn white while she studies the ranger. She scoops up a handful of loose dirt and flings it on him, then nods knowingly. "It does not work anymore. You are already protected."

Saw that the Ward hex grants deflection bonus, same as the ring of protection. So I'm switching the standard warding to Prazil.

Prazil has a ring of protection as well, though it's simply a +1. Is the ward bonus +2 at this point?

OK, guys, let's finish divvying up this bit. Then I think I'll move you to the east, which I think is the last unexplored hex in the area, and then back home unless you want to go visit the trolls or do something else.


Treshiell has no interest in any of the treasures. Agnar takes the spear. Anyone need the studded armor or is it going up for sale?

As you head back east, toward the last unexplored area between you and home, it appears to be a peaceful day. However, that's interrupted by what seems to be unusually common sightings of animals -- birds, deer, elk and the like -- passing you in the opposite direction.

You think they're probably being spooked by some sort of forest fire ahead.

Kereek is somewhat distracted by watching the local plant life for signs of evil. Periodically he jumps, causing Pork Chop, his intrepid war-sheep, to bleat and make a somewhat pained look. Still, Kereek is determined not to allow the plants to sneak up on them unnoticed.

"A fire?" Treshiell asks looking at Kereek. Moments after she starts to levitate upwards to get a birds eye view.

[ooc]Use the Levitate part of the flight hex to drift upwards to get a better view of where the smoke might be originating from.

Treshiell suddenly drops from the sky and rushes towards the groud, only to slow down and gently slide down into the saddle of Sun Dancer. Dismissing Levitate and using the Feather fall part of my Flight hex to descend safely. ”There is a fire over head. About 30 minutes that way.”

You're not sure, Treshiell, based on your limited watching, but if you describe it, both Orin and Agnar can tell that it's not likely to stay where it is unless some sort of outside force (i.e. a creature or spell or such) is behind it.

"Fighting monsters is one thing. Fighting a force of nature is something else entirely. We've too few hands to make a firebreak and while I could fill buckets all day to douse the flames, we couldn't get enough of them on the fire to do any good. Besides, I didn't bring any buckets."

"It doesn't sound natural to me," he says, "though if whatever's causing it isn't careful, it could spread."


"If it is no natural then it is something we should examine further", Treshiell says and motions Sun Dancer towards the direction of the fire.

Would a (take ten on a) Knowledge (arcana) roll for a total of 10 + 13 = 23 give any hints of magical creatures or spells that could be the cause of such a fire?

Prazil looks around nervously, "Prazil am not sure how to fight fires. No one in Sootscale am for knowing how, really. That am why Kereek was so scar- uh, honored. Yes. That am why Kereek was for being honored." He pauses and scratches his head as the group presumably makes for the blaze. "So, how am Prazil for helping now?"

Kereek looks smug at Prazil's praise, then begins to murmur arcane words and touch each of his friends in turn, finally ending with Pork Chop, his beloved war-sheep. Everyone has resist energy (fire) for fire resistance 10 for the next 60 minutes. Try not to die!

As you approach, you begin to smell smoke and soon hear the crackling of burning trees, along with the occasional pop as pitch catches fire.

Shortly afterward, you can see a flaming grove, at the center of which a lithe, feminine form leaps and twirls amid the conflagration, not only unharmed by the flames, but seemingly buoyed by them. She tosses her fiery locks and gives a laugh like the roar of the wildfire itself. She resembles an elf with long red hair and eyes like burning coals, her ruddy skin clothed in nothing but the smoke and flames in which she dances.

Know (nature) to identify; Agnar, the sight tickles something in your memory, so you get a +2 circumstance bonus to your check.

As the fire spread since Treshiell last saw it?

"What is she doing?" Treshiell asks her head tilted slightly as she watches the fey (?) dance around in the fire.

The woman stops dancing at Kereek's question and looks at the little kobold. She cocks her head, considering for a few moments, before replying in Ignan.

"I am making a new home for myself," she says.
