Koritylija |

Kori mostly ignores Red-beard. First, she's no 'youngen' certainly older than he is just by him being dwarven and her elven. More importantly, though, no man is going to tell her what to do or how to do it. Instead she just hisses back with the same low sibilant she used to shush Lizard-friend, "Just becasue you are slow Red-beard, doesn't mean you should slow the rest of us down. We'll go through and kill stuff, you can follow 'step by step from chamber to chamber'"

Angmar Firefox |

Angmar shakes his head at Kori's words and it seems his head is getting as red as his hair but he then begins to breath deeply and replies more or less composed.
Very well, you all rush around like fools and try an get yourself killed but don't come cryin to me when ye get yer fingers burned...
My action is sort of dependent on what others do. If everybody goes running off Angmar will search the courtyard by his self.

Apollo Randasian |

Well, I'm going to the courtyard, but you're welcome to follow me everywhere!
Apollo then places his finger on his lips, looks to Kori and then goes Shhh! back at the Elven woman, before smiling playfully.

leinathan |

The Courtyard. Huge branches and overgrown weeds clog the central open air courtyard of the monastery’s cloister walk. In better times, the monastic priests would have contemplated the open space while circling the cloister, but today it is barely possible to see a few feet into the tangled mess, let alone all the way to the opposite cloister walk. Here and there the brush thins out enough that a dedicated explorer might be able to create a sort of passage, but mostly it is an impassable mess.
There are a few more things I should inform you of.
From the nave, there is an entryway into another area. There are two entryways into the courtyard-area, and one into the chapel, and a third into another area that you haven't explored yet.
Additionally, in the courtyard area to the north, there is an entryway into another area that you haven't explored yet.

Koritylija |

Seeing nothing but weeds Kori decides she'll just keep walking south along the west wall. The whole idea of planting an indoor garden seems kind of stupid to her. That space could be better used for battle practice and weapons drills.
She continues to move toward A6, then move East along the south wall toward the opening at the bottom of the map.

Angmar steps into the courtyard and looks around. An odd growth in the middle of the courtyard catches the Dwarves eye and he recognizes it as a Geyer's nest. He points in the direction and explains to his companions:
That's a geyer nest. Big birds o prey. We should search it before the thing comes back. Maybe burn it down as we don't really wants a geyer in our new home.
general Perception check for searching the area 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Dmitri Mavis |

Following slowly behind Kori, in the cell directly behind her, Dmitri takes notice of the odd plant growth.
The thought of a powerful avian overseer appeased Dmitri more than it should have. He had a thing for animals, actually. He found he could handle animals as well as he could people. Whether it was because of his unnatural raising, or not, he wasn't sure.
"How large of an Avian are we talking, exactly? Axe beaks are one thing, but... I've never heard of these."

Apollo Randasian |

Really should have grabbed this, spending a lot of his life in the wild and all:
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 ⇒ 10
Hearing the Dwarf's knowledge of the creature, Apollo seems rather happy.
A big bird eh? This brings back memories of when I first met Nom. Burn the nest down if you'd like, but I would leave it personally. I'm not a fan of killing defenseless creatures.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Looking to the sky, Apollo comments.
It appears the mother isn't around right now, but I plan on keeping one of the eggs. If it dies, so be it, but if it's strong, it'll act as both mine and Nom's bird companion!
Regardless, let's not worry about this for now. We currently have other things to be concerned about.
Walking away, the man looks to pass through the Nave, seeking to explore what's beyond.
Pretty sure there are eggs in there, as it's a nest, but need GM word. :p

leinathan |

There are three geier eggs at the center of the tangle of underbrush, although it takes any searching characters some effort to elbow their way through.
The opening on the western wall of the courtyard opens into a vestibule of sorts, an antechamber to two more rooms. Carvings of significance to Sarenrae line the walls, but none are related to the massive statue of the bearded man you saw. On the other hand, an entrance into a small room to the east reveals a shrine of the man - melted candles, carvings, and runes line this room.
A doorway in the northern area of this vestibule leads into an octagonal chapterhouse, although much of it cannot be seen from here.

Apollo Randasian |

Apollo heads towards the entrance of area A9 and looks in.
I won't do any more right now, as I know you guys can't post as much and Kori's player felt it to be unfair.

Angmar Firefox |

We're not killing hapless creature by burnin the nest. Just tellin the bird it better find a new home. It's the way you build up civilization, ye push back nature? Anyone gots a problem with that? Or ye want to get eaten by a Geyer? And maybe we can sell these eggs. I recall Geyer's bein liked to be held as pets by the oddest of folk in Katapesh...
Angmar rants to his companions. Then seeing that they are already moving on he joins them in their search.

Koritylija |

Kori hears the dwarf ramble on, something about civilization, and whatever or something. Really, she stopped listening almost as soon as he started. As far as she knew, if there were eggs, all she wondered is if they tasted good or not. She could go for some nice big eggs about now.
As she gets to the opening in the south wall, she looks back to see Lizard-friend on nowhere to be found. If it's one thing she's learned as both a bodyguard and even back to the old drow hunting parties, is that everyone should stay together unless you were setting up an ambush. She yell whispers up the hall, "Pssst, Lizard-friend, where are you? We're on this side."

Apollo Randasian |

I'm over here! shouts Apollo whilst trying to keep his voice to a whisper. He can be heard from Kori and Dmitri's left.
I've found some kind of room that I'd like to investigate before proceeding. It doesn't look as though there's much to worry about here.
Apollo cautiously approaches the room in A10.

Koritylija |

Kori shrugs, whisper yells back, before moving on "Well, we're going this way. Don't die, Head-woman may have a problem with that." She makes her way down the hall to the south.

leinathan |

@Apollo
This room is a stone octagon, with a roof that's seen a lot of wear. Rubble and detritus cover the floor, and a few benches sit here and there, where the monastery's monks may once have sit in contemplation and discussion.
As you enter, there is a buzzing noise from above. Looking up, three grotesque, fat flying creatures fly towards you. These creatures have four bat wings each, long insectile legs, and a thick proboscis protruding from their faces.
Roll for initiative! The others about about 110 feet away from you, and if they can succeed at a DC 5 Perception check with a -11 modifier, they can hear the combat.

Entering the doorway, there is a plain and weatherworn hall here. It contains five entrances to other rooms, and a worn statue of a winged woman. There are enormous holes in the ceiling, so this place must be pretty subject to the elements and unpleasant during inclement weather. The door to Area A15, the second room on your right, hangs open. The rest are closed.
The statue itself is, of course, Sarenrae.

Kori shakes her head at the dwarf's question, "Nah, to me a door left open says there's nothing inside." She decides instead to head for the closest door. Never want the unknown behind you, so you keep all your enemies where you can see them. If that means not passing a door, makes sense to her. So focused is she on their surroundings, that isn't even trying to keep an ear out anywhere else.

As Dmitri keeps closely behind Kori, he thinks back to the statue's that he's seen. His moment of twilight-rage has given him a second to think back on the statue of the man, and the one's of everything else. He thinks back particularly to the stone statue that they originally saw on their arrival...
As he does this, he notices Kori going for the closed door. The lavishly brutal woman was obviously not a fan of surprises. Ironic, seeing as the only way to reveal one is to bump into it.
"Not that you enjoy the thought, but I'm hoping there's more of the blaspheming rats behind this... dull or not, they've only made my blade more painful."

Come here so I can hit you! speaks Apollo, as he looks up at the flying creatures surrounding him.
The creatures unless they have spring attack or whatever, should be hovering right next to me when they go in for attack, but will ready actions when necessary, and will do the following on Apollo's turn:

The three ugly pink creatures fly towards Apollo, probosces making gentle sucking noises. Apollo's hammer catches one as it gets too close, crushing the thing's body into a wet empty bag. The other two attempt to grab onto him with their six insectile legs. Their legs dig into Apollo's flesh, and they stick their long probisces into his flesh. Apollo begins to feel weakness as his blood is slowly pumped out of him by the two cat-sized foes on him. Apollo, 2 CON damage and you are grappled.
Angmar, down the hallway, hears the squeaking of tiny creatures, the flap of tiny bat wings, and Apollo's far-away cry of pain.

Kori listens when the dwarf asks, but she's pretty sure he might just be imagining it. "He's a loud guy, I'm sure we'll hear him if he calls out. Did it sound like that big bird was coming back? That I'd be interested in fighting." She continues toward the door she was about to open.

@Apollo
Apollo throws one of the stirges off of him, backing away, while the other steadily gulps away at his blood. The tiny pink creature he's just thrown off skitters at him once again, leaping into the air to attempt to get another bite in. The creature succeeds, digging its proboscis and its legs into Apollo's paling flesh again. It begins to drink heavily of the big man's blood. Both creatures redden as they fill with his life's blood. The creature's dirty snout rubs a bit on his skin as it punctures him, and a bit of filth breaks off inside the wound. 2 more CON damage. The sounds of pain and tiny screeching are becoming increasingly apparent to the rest of the group. Apollo's voice can distinctly be heard echoing through the stone walls of the building.

Koritylija |

Kori is clearly irritated by the dwarf's insistence, but he is right, and the Head-woman would be mad and possibly not grant her the freedom she came to earn. When the cries ring out, she growls and grumbles to herself in undercommon, but moves towards them all the same.
Double move to the other side where Apollo is.

Apollo Randasian |

:Round 2:
Let's see if I can knock the thing unconscious!
Dropping his Hammer, Apollo punches one of the creatures attached to him.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 -2 for grappled condition
Damage: 1d3 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Max damage. Shame!
Get off of me you wretched bug!

leinathan |

I don't believe you actually need to roll to attack on creatures that are grappling you. The description, as I remember it, says as an option "you may deal damage equal to your unarmed strike, one a one-handed or light melee weapon". Where's the extra 2 coming from, by the way? I see 1d3+4+2.

Apollo Randasian |

I read if you're suffering from the grappled condition, you cannot attack with a two-handed weapon, so I dropped it, and Power Attack, which is why my Attack is +4 and not +5. :)
So 9 damage. Fools for grappling me! :p

Dmitri Mavis |

Dmitri had stayed silent, having not heard anything and not one for arguments that didn't involve his religion. However, when Kori moved, so did he.
As they ran, Dmitri's sinister urge to kill more of the pugwampi menace surfaced, though he wasn't about to enjoy it. This was a purge, rather than a pleasure.
Move as much as necessary to keep up with Kori. I only have 20 movement, so...

Angmar Firefox |

Heering louder screams Angmar makes a run for it. His short legs aren't the quickest but at least he can keep up with Dmitri.
Double move...

Apollo Randasian |

They're more audible grunts than screams. He takes pain well, but doesn't like it unlike Dmitri. It pee's him off! Also, no worries Lein. If I put PA next to it, that should help you. :)

Koritylija |

Kori keeps moving toward the direction she was told Lizard-friend was, until she can spot him.
Wasn't sure if it was a new round, so Kori will keep double-moving until she arrives.

Apollo Randasian |

:Round 3:
Guess it's now round 3, so let's try this again with the -2 penalty to attack!
Attack unarmed with power attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d3 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Feeling his health worsening, the man now desperately swings his hand out, hoping to hit something through the obstruction of two giant bugs attached to him.
GET OFF OF ME! I'LL CRUSH YOU WITH MY BARE HANDS!

leinathan |

Oh, in THAT case, Apollo's in more trouble than I thought XD
Round 2!
The creatures continue to slurp on Apollo while he flails at one of them, hitting it hard but not hard enough to injure it. One of them, too distracted by its meal to keep a hold on him, loses its footing and falls off of him, the proboscis sliding out of the wound with a horrid squeak. 1 more CON damage! Health now at 8/9, CON now at 7.
Kori, in the lead, quickly makes it to near enough Apollo to strike just as he's striking the things with his fists. Angmar and Dmitri lag behind, short legs and heavy steel armor impeding their steps, and will be a few more seconds.
Round 3 is NOW. Apollo's already posted, so you other three go.

maintain grapple 2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

Just so you know, Apollo, if you had rolled just a few less, you'd have two diseases right now XD

Koritylija |

As Kori nears she sees two big bat-bug things feeding on Lizard-friend. The one on the floor doesn't look to be much of an issue at the moment, but the one still drinking from him sure is. She swings her blade with a flick, trying to dislodge the thing without cutting Lizard-friend.
Nine-ring broadsword 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21, damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Apollo Randasian |

Pretty sure my health is on 6hp now, as you lose hp based on your level times by your con damage (I think) for every point of Con you lose.

Koritylija |

Ability score damage only affects you for every 2 points of damage (regardless of your original stat). So a 16, taking 1 point suffers no ill effects, despite the score acting as a 15. It's for ease of bookkeeping. For every 2 points of Con damage, you lose your HD in HP. If you have 6 pts damage, you have lost 3 HP from it.

Apollo Randasian |

Nowhere near as bad I've been thinking then. Okay, thanks a lot for the clarification. :)

Angmar Firefox |

Angmar rushes through the courtyard with his massive axe out.

As he runs, Dmitri falls short of Kori, which is no surprise as he is still rather adept at moving swiftly in a breastplate. His tattered scythe out, pronged for attack.

Apollo Randasian |

Heh, I'm confused which round we're on right now, but as everyone seems to have taken their turn, I'm going to go with Round 5.
:Round 5:
Taking another swing once more, Apollo tries to smash the creature hard enough to lose its hold on him.
Attack with Power Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15 Includes the -2 due to grapple
Damage: 1d3 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
