Kori is unsure if he knows what the term hit and run means, or if he's trying to be funny. "No, hit and run does not mean kill and run to the next. It means hit them, then run away to draw them out, not run further in. It's how you seperate them from the others to bring them down. Also, it makes it so they are farther from help if they try to run from us. My people use this method good against the elves. So we don't go in blindly, we have to plan our raid, and that takes time. You have hate for gnolls. What do we need to know about them?"
She doesn't have any knowledges, so all she can do is an untrained knowledge local on them 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17. So whatever she gets with a DC 10
She turns to the dwarf beside her on the balcony, "Short-legs, you said your god is praised for war and tactics? How does he say to do this? Has he talked to you yet?"
Basically waiting to hear back on where we enter the town. That will change the plan a little. Also, Kori will defer to Angmar on planning this (as long as he doesn't try to order her around). Planning wasn't exactly what her focus was when learning to raid.

Angmar chuckles a bit at Appollo's claim that he does not rush into danger mindlessly, but remains silent on the matter. As Kori inquires what Angradd told him to do the Dwarf smiles.
Tonight I had a dream of you keeping Appollo on a leash. Mustev been a vision from Angradd. he laughs at his own joke but knowing Kori might not have caught on he goes on
Angradd told one of his first Faithful Gelmaz the Stout, who lived many thousands years ago in the Iron Mountains about the art of warfare. And this wise Dwarf wrote down Angradd's thoughts. I have studied a copy of this tome and in a situation as this it advices for patience. Much like you described. Pick weak targets take them out quickly retreat to a defensible position and bid your time. Once the tally becomes too great you have sowed fear in your opponents heart and they will have to come for you!
Apollo Randasian |
Apollo glances over at Angmar, listening to his tale, then looks at Kori.
Listen to our friend here. Combine both his and my suggestions and we have our plan sorted.
The only difference between our tactics is where I prefer to take out stronger targets, Angmar suggests we aim for the weaklings first.
Still waiting impatiently, Apollo quickly explains the situation and hopes that the others will stop talking and leave with him, almost deciding to leave on his own.
We work our way from the outside in, checking for guards whilst trying to remain hidden. We hit hard and fast, taking on one group at a time, killing and moving swiftly to attack the next, until each member of each lookout party has been dealt with. Then we move into the Battle Market, which I'm guessing is in the centre of Kelmerane with a heavily guarded proximity.
Simple tactics, but effective. he muses.
Now, will you guys get a move on? Every second we waste here could be costing innocents their lives.
Koritylija |
At first she rolls her eyes at the dwarf when he mentions the leash, looking sideways at Pain-lover, then she realizes he was talking about having Lizard-friend on a leash. She begins to wonder if he is like Pain-lover, maybe he does like to get hurt too, judging by the way he fights. She nods in agreement at Short-legs' assessment of how his god directs him to attack, giving a rough description of what she saw of the town and where they would be coming from.
the top right corner of the map
She asks for further guidance, "So, Short-legs, where does your god say we strike first?"
Kori is once again confused by Lizard-friend's suggestion, maybe he really doesn't know hit and run, "How can you combine the two. Short-legs' god says hit small targets, run away, then next smallest and run away again. You say hit big targets, run toward, then hit another big target. The only thing to combine is you both say stealth, but we all know that."
She crosses her arms, then looks at Lizard-friend. Adding, "You still have not shared with us what you know of these gnolls. Besides, what god do you listen to that tells you what to do?" She points to the dwarf, "His god offers dreams of winning battles, as I dreamed of great wars after he spoke to me of the gods, and a great man in spiked armor like mine gave me power against many enemies. I don't think you've spoke of gods at all." She begins to walk after she asks, "I have been ready, we can walk while we prepare can't we?"
Apollo Randasian |
That's what I've been waiting for! he adds.
Hit and run tactics aren't as simple as "hit one enemy, run away" when there are groups of the things roaming around together. You hit one, they all go for you, with some even alerting others.
Targeting and killing the leader of the group lowers morale for those that follow. This is how we gain the advantage.
Keeping eye contact with the woman, he continues.
As for Gnoll's, you only needed to ask.
Does Angmar's god know about Gnoll's? If his god is so much greater than I, surely you would have learned something already?
Apollo smirks at his own response, understanding that the woman dislikes him, always quick to disregard his opinion.
We'll see how well these guys do in Kelmerane. I'm ready for the Gnoll dogs, but can the same be said for those I travel with?
Angmar Firefox |
My god suggests that before we strike we find a defensible position as a base of operations.
What's this here Angmar inquires as he points at B1.

To Dmitri's humble request, Almah widens her eyes and says "Oh, of course! How could I forget such a thing. Zastoran!"
Calling the halfling over, they have a short, hushed argument about potions. Zastoran grumbles, and angrily walks over to his caravan, and comes back with a handful of potions. Thrusting them angrily at Dmitri, he says "Perhaps it would be better if you could simply learn to avoid injury, but if you TRULY MUST..."
He hands over three cure light wounds potions, one cure moderate wounds potion, and two lesser restoration potions.
Kori recalls from one raiding trip that gnolls are hyena-like creatures that have some rudimentary civilization. They use tools, eat sentient creatures, keep slaves, and revel in pain.
Almah responds to Angmar's request about the town with "I don't know! That's what I'm sending you guys in to find out."
Hatim |
Hearing the banter back forth makes Hatim come to one conclusion, "If we rush, we will die. One cannot wipe out an infection at once; it must be weakened over time. I believe hitting small is the best choice." He then directs his voice towards the Dwarf, "I do not know of any Gods, but I do know your logic is sound."
Apollo Randasian |
I didn't say to rush. In fact what I said was quite the opposite. I feel I'm repeating myself here, but if you attack one group, no matter how small, you have to deal with them all.....as in all members within that singular group....not the entirety of the Gnoll tribe, like I get the impression you think I mean.
Picking one off and then running away will compromise our mission. We focus on one group at a time, like I suggested, and I'll aim to take out the biggest guy in each group first. Morale will be lowered and we'll have a better chance of success.
Frustrated by the fact the whole party is disregarding his opinion, he speaks out of character, with no sign of his usual playful tone.
I know Gnoll's. They hunt in packs. Trust in what I say because it might just save your life...
There's no reasoning with these guys. If they want to die, it'll be down to their own ignorance.
Apollo abruptly walks away, making his way outside of the monastery and onto his camel.
Eep. I have higher Charisma than Angmar, but if that's not coming into play, I understand.
Hatim |
Hatim raises a brow at Apollo's remark, "I believe he confuses his own words, he says one thing, but yet means another. Also if they do hunt in packs; I don't see why he would not understand the hit and run concept. His impatience is reckless." Hatim is upset with himself because he didn't mean to sound as if he was completely destorying one of the party member's ideas, but he couldn't help to fear that his own safety would be as risk due to this selfish man. "We are a team, are we not?"
Note: Hatim has the same Charisma and Wisdom as Apollo, and a higher Intellegence... if we are going to pull the number card. I didn't even look at the scores of the others. This isn't simply based on Charisma; it's a combination of Intelliegnce and Wisdom aswell.
Dmitri Mavis |
Dmitri bows; "My gratitude, to both of you. I assure you, these debts will be paid. I've no interest in owing favors..." while still bowing, he looks to Zastoran as he raises back up, though he doesn't say anything.
During this he overhears the conversation amongst his allies... if you could call it that. It was more like squabbling. He avoids the conversation entirely, at least, not chiming in.
Sense Motive on Apollo: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
In some sort of twisted way, Dmitri could relate to Apollo's desire to seek out the gnolls. While he was more intelligent, he was no less beastial. He wanted to test out his new found strength, even if it did only work on those that were somewhat more... he couldn't find the word. Regardless, the bloodlust this man had towards the gnolls was remarkable, and Dmitri enjoyed it, even if it was for the wrong reasons. His idea of wrong reasons, anyway. As for his attempts to distance himself in his fit, however, Dmitri could care considerably less.
Walking towards the group he looks to the dwarf, and holds out the potions he'd obtained to Angmar, much to the dwarfs surprise. "I unfortunately do not have the necessary space on my person to hold these healing potions that Miss Roveshki was so generous to donate to our engagements. I would honestly prefer that Angmar hold onto them, if he would...
He pulls his hair out of his face with his free hand, holding the bottles rather awkwardly, but not losing his grip.
"I would also like to point that this talk of tactics is rather void, as we have plenty of time to converse about such plans after we've gathered knowledge of what we're up against. We need to take a closer look, do we not?"
Dmitri had unfortunatley not been informed of Kori's viewings, and would still suggest a much closer look prior. Despite being a raving psychopathic bloodletter, he still had plenty of intelligence. Dark, Twisted intelligence, but intelligence nonetheless.
If we're bringing stats into this, I'm frankly certain that Dmitri is the second-most intelligent, and sexiest (which was bolded because it's far more important (Which was italicized because it was sarcasm))

Amidst argument and bickering over tactics, the quintet finally picks up their belongings and begins the trek to Kelmerane. On their way out, the odious man Dashki approaches from the monastery's nave with a wave.
"Were you guys mindin' if I tagged along? I haven't seen a dead Kulldis tribe gnoll in awhile and I've...missed it."
The pugwampi corpse swings limply from his staff.
Dmitri Mavis |
Dmitri was not a fan of actual death. He found it appalling, actually, and much preferred to not see corpses, as in no way were they becoming of their former selves. Especially if their former selves were already unbecoming.
The Pugwampi that hanged from Dashki's staff was... unappealing, to say the least. The creatures were vile excuses for creatures to begin with. A dead one was just that much more appalling. Out of all of the people that he'd met on the caravan, he knew severely little of Dashki. He couldn't remember a single thing about him, and most of that reasons was because he seemed to be a rather droll, foul man.
That said, Dmitri was very quick to assume the worst, and made it a point to see where the man was coming from with his eagerness.
Sense Motive Dashki: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Despite his rather good sense of understanding, he just can't get over the intrepid pugwampi that hangs so close to him. It's absolutely sickening.
Koritylija |
Kori shrugs, unconcerned about the man. She was more concerned about how many people she's met since coming on this trip that were obsessed with killing gnolls. A fight is a fight, and she just hopes they are as eager to fight all their enemies instead of just these ones. "Hey, Imp-stick, I already said I'm okay with it. As long as you want to kill gnolls and are able to then it's fine by me."
Angmar Firefox |
@Apollo: Sorry to be so frank but you are starting to piss me off OOC. Maybe you should come to realize that nobody wants to listen to Apollo because he's been acting like a jerk all the while IC. Whining about having higher Charisma than other people isn't gonna make matters better. If you want folks to listen to you, then learn to play with the team.
Angmar remains calm as all the bickering is going on around him. The fact that Dashki is joining them for the outing is definitely soothing to the Dwarves nerves. As they set out the Dwarf walks next to the smelly man with his lucky charm.
So Dashki. Ave ye ever been to Kelmarane?
Apollo Randasian |
Pretty sure he hasn't done anything wrong to any of you guys, other than venture off on his own for a little bit, and if that annoys you, I must be roleplaying ok. As for me annoying you, I thought that was the point of Charisma, so mentioned it with no bad intentions. It's how we play Tabletop here...and I haven't once left you to fight alone, so there's no need to take things so personally or feel annoyed or even state that I piss you off, as it'll no doubt cause further debate, leaving a bad taste in both of our mouths. I'm letting this slide as I don't want yet another argument, so please have a little consideration before saying things in future. I hate arguing and just want to play the game...
Apollo trudges silently up front, while the Camel he rides spits and groans.
Just say nothing. Get to Kelmarane, do what you can there. If those around me can't understand my actions, maybe I'll let them deal with things for a while.
leinathan |
The journey through the desert sands transitions quickly into a journey alongside a large pesh field as the party rides along the road - the pesh field fills up nearly the entire space directly between the monastery and the town. The trip into Kelmerane takes about two hours on camelback, although the party dismounts a few miles out of town, and attempts to stealthfully enter the town to begin scouting it.
The camels are tied down, and Kori and Dashki take the lead (much to the rest of the party's dismay, who have to follow behind Dashki and smell his aftermath). Angmar and Dmitri are behind them, and Apollo takes up the rear with Hatim. They go unnoticed as they approach the first building, a fire-gutted shell of a building. A partial sign hangs above what remains of the entrance, proclaiming it to be a "-AVE MARKET".
Koritylija |
Kori, her blade leading, eases in toward the confines of the damaged building. She looks for signs of any enemies before entering completely, and if there are none waves the others to follow with her empty hand.

Kori leans in to listen to the sound for anything distinguishing about it, before shrugging and quietly telling the others "Don't see any gnolls, but watch where you step, there may be some snakes living under the rubble." As she moves into the building for cover until they plot their next move.
Apollo Randasian |
Snakes....someone's gonna end up poisoned!
Carefully aiming in with his bow, Apollo remains 10 foot outside of the building, just in case anything attacks him before he takes his revenge out on the entire Gnoll race, though still saying very little to the party.
leinathan |
Kori and Angmar move into the building, burned and ruined though it is, and Apollo waits outside to cover them.
The pair that move inside see something huge slithering in the shadowy inside of the building. It's a few moments before they realize what it is. A huge mamba snake has made this building its lair, and its 10-foot-long girth rears up in the center of the main room and hisses at the intruders. Long fangs drip venom and its eyes glint with hunger.
Alright so there's a Large snake in here. I'm assuming that you'll want to fight it, so I rolled initiative. Beginning round 1.

"The fact that this isn't a Pugwampi nulls the feeling of going slower than a fatass mamba.
While rather slow with his entry, Dmitri hadn't lagged far behind Kori or Angmar. Making it a point to stay in front of Dashki and Apollo at this point, having been absolutely loathe of the stench. It wasn't rustic at all, and entirely unlike blood's scent, something he rather enjoyed.
At the first sign of the stop signal that kori had given, he'd drawn his scythe in gleeful anticipation, and delighted at the sight of the mamba. A short sweetness, of course, as he knew that the sleek creature would doubtfully last any time at all at their combined efforts. Biting his lower lip, he waited for his chance to charge in... if he even had to.

The battle with the snake springs into action half-heartedly and anticlimactically with a javelin slipping out of Hatim's hand and clattering to the ground. Angmar fares better, charging the beast and connecting with his big axe, but the creature's rubbery skin does not break at his blade. The big snake rears and snaps at Kori as she rushes past, but its thick teeth fail to reach her, and it hisses when she delivers a solid swipe with her scimitar, drawing a line of blood. Apollo's arrow goes wide, and clatters against a far wall, missing the big snake entirely. The snake, (a giant emperor cobra with dripping venom) lunges at Angmar, wrapping its head around his torso, but it has trouble finding purchase with its teeth, and can't puncture his breastplate. Daskhi smiles a smile reserved for people who relish combat and bloodletting, and a fine scimitar and kukri drop into his hands as he charges forward. The kukri snags a vital point in its hide, but gets caught on an especially tough portion, and only deals minor damage. Dmitri stands back, ready to charge but keeping his distance (for now) from the fracas.

This creature was rather something. A truly marvelous thing, really. Sleek, precise, and dangerous. Truly something worthy of being a pet, but alas, he had no time for that. Because the creature obviously threatened Kori somewhat, and showed far more threat than anything they'd faced prior, he was certainly ready to charge in with glee, but, something irritated him.
If the city was so "overrun" with Gnolls in every area, why was such a freakishly large snake still alive? Perhaps they found it religious? Surely enough, without even having to recollect he knew that some deities, namely the evil ones, of course, enjoyed snakes as a symbol, but he couldn't fathom why gnolls would deal with them.

While Dmitri had not yet adjusted properly to the weapon's surprising effectiveness, it no less reached it's desired mark. The blade sank into the creature with ease, and drawing thick, viscous serpentine blood. He'd hoped he would recollect soon what these things had to do with gnolls, if anything, but in the mean time, he simply watched the trail of succor dance through the air off of the tip of his blade.
Today was going to be just swell...
leinathan |
Dmitri thinks hard about gnolls and snakelike dieties. He recalls that most gnolls worship Lamashtu, a demon lord who has nothing to do with snakes (natural ones, at least). It seems likely that the gnolls left this snake alone simply because it is too dangerous to want to deal with.
Koritylija |
Kori hears the boom and sees the flash of Hatim's fiery explosion way too late to react accordingly. All that said, even if she had seen it, she probably wouldn't exactly understand what to do about it. "What the hell was that for? Watch where you throw your fire New guy, or I will pour it down your throat!" Her anger at the audacity of the jerk hitting her is too much for her to keep her cool.
She begins to tense up and growls loudly between her clenched teeth as she shifts threatingly closer to the bald freak, while keeping the big snake between her and her allies. Her muscles almost appear to grow with her anger, as she pushes away the pain of the burn she just suffered. Grasping her blade with white-knuckled fury, she swings, and swings hard. The new weapon bites hard into the rubbery flesh of the giant slithering beast.

Angmar's blow once again fails to find purchase in the snake's remarkably tough skin. In response to the pain, Kori flies into a rage and delivers a shockingly solid blow onto the creature, carving out a pretty thick slice of flesh. Apollo's arrow finds its mark this time somewhere in the undulating mass of flesh that is the snake, and it hisses in pain as it lunges at Kori to deliver retribution. This time, its fangs sink deeply into the elven woman's flesh, delivering searing venom and pain. Kori, 9 damage and 1 Con damage. Dmitri grimaced at the spectacle. Kori had no doubt been poisoned, for certain, this time. He thought back to the fact that she didn't like him all that much, and he'd really never done anything to prove it... but this was simple enough.
It didn't take much knowledge to understand that snakebites were curable via sucking out the poison, or atleast, that's how he thought. Dmitri wasn't impressive at healing, but he understood cuts and piercings.
Walking up to Kori rather slowly, he was more worried about getting clawed across the face than anything, or worse, making her worse-off. Regardless, it would have been against his code to not atleast attempt to aid the woman. While not aware that the poison had already done minor damage, he was more concerned with it's potential. She may have had obvious fortitude, but that didn't stop him from wanting to aid her.

"Koritylija, bear with me on this, and feel free to punish me if this goes wrong, but I do believe I can aid you. Please bear with me." He bit his lip a bit, considering the circumstances. He placed a hand on the nearest important vein/artery that the poison could pass through, and clenched it tightly, knowing full dam-well that it may be painful. "I'm aware this may hurt, but I assure you, it will be done in an instant. I'm going to suck out the poison."
And with that, consequences in tow or not, provided she'd let him, of course. He did.
Koritylija |
I was waiting to see if anyone responded with the request for antitoxin or any other actions (I assumed Hatim would have one, but just checked his profile and he doesn't).
At first Kori worries that he will burn out the poison, or cut it away somehow, but when he says he's going to suck it out she scowls at him. Thinking it might another one of his advances, she glances at the dwarf to see his reaction to the suggestion, and is comforted when he doesn't react as if the suggestion was odd. She decides to let him try it his way, still holding the limb in a hard grip, she offers the wound to Pain-lover.
2nd Fort save 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 4 = 22
She is surprised to actually feel the burning subside, going through a few motions with it after the fact. As she feels it pass, she is overcome with fatigue, her energy sapped from the experience. "I just need to catch my breath." She decides to take her time inspecting the rest of the building as the weariness recedes. Considering its effectiveness, she wonders if there is any way she can use the dead snake to her advantage, "That poison is strong, and I could feel its burn. Is there some way for me to take it to use? Can I poison someone if I stab them with one of its teeth?"
3 rds of Rage used, 6 rds of Fatigue. She will look around while she rests. Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Hatim |
Hatim then walked over to where Kori had decided to rest, covering his nose as he passed Dashki. Knowing he would have to be cautious due to Kori’s mention of poisoning ‘someone’, possibly him, with one of the snake’s teeth. But, Hatim felt somewhat responsible for the damage she had suffered.
He then looks down at her and says in an informative tone, ”Perhaps I should have warned you my explosive was off. I’ll work on excluding certain individuals.”] Hatim didn’t sound concerned what so ever, but instead his expression looked as though he had ate something awful. Just looking at her infected bite made him sick.
Trying to distract himself, Hatim begins to look around for anything that may interest him.

Apollo Randasian |
While the party members search inside the building for any useful items, Apollo keeps watch outside, checking for any movement with his eyes and ears, whilst using his nose to try and catch a whiff of the foul smelling fur, Gnoll's often carried.

Fortunately, Kori's rage-fueled fortitude is able to brush off the snake's poison.
Unfortunately, this ruined building contains nothing of value or interest.
Chances: 1d10 ⇒ 7
Apollo spots no gnolls moving about the buildings of Kelmerane at the moment. Silence (but for the occasional rasping of dust) reigns in the city.
Angmar Firefox |
With the snake out of the way Angmar begins to search the room for any secret doors or things left behind.
