Our slowest movers are at 30' base speed, right? So staying together and just doing double move would have us moving 60' per round. Add the 200' per round that the husks are closing? The ones with missiles can hang back. The rest of us have 7 rounds until we 'meet'. Note: Slowing to "move and prep" a couple rounds before we meet. ??
Holy weapon balm to the ones with missiles. Let me know who so I know how many to cross off. And Protection from Evil, Communal on the group and Divine Favor and Sun Metal for himself cast by me.
| Beorn Blackmane |
I think the nearest husks are running away at a rate of 200' toward the main group which is 1700'. That means we need about 28 rounds or so to get up to the group. I'll apply one set of arrows with the balm.
Beorn accepts some of the holy balm and then begins to follow the others chewing up ground between the team and the undead husks.
| Rouqar Surtova |
Good point. They are running away from us faster than we can move. ??
| Rouqar Surtova |
Rouqar stops, panting from the running. "Strange that they're just running away, but we obviously can't just catch them."
"Back to the mission though. Renia and Flouncy, examine that portal. Try to figure out where it goes, how much longer it will be open and is it safe for us to go through? The rest of us can try to find who was shooting at the enemy other than us." He glances around, "Where's Loarin?"
And if we don't start some regular posting the husks can attack us while we are split up....
| Beorn Blackmane |
"I think Loarin stayed up top. I'll catch a ride on Reaper and go check on him." With that, Beorn gives a telepathic call along with a loud whistle and waits for Reaper to land. He mounts and flies off to check on Loarin.
| Renia's Warform |
Renia nods. "Yeah, seems like it." The huge insectoid heads over to the portal to check it out with Flouncy.
Not going to add much to Flouncy's checks but I'll go ahead and roll.
Kn:Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Kn:Planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
| GM Wolf |
Flouncy and Reina head to the portal. They get there and begin to analyze it.
From your checks. You think it is relatively stable teleportation circle. You need to power up the sides with a 1st or higher spell. One spell for each side. But it looks like it is still powered on. If you stepped on you would likely be teleported to the other keyed circle.
Beorn calls for Reaper and then flies off to look for Loarin. He finds him on a platform with several distraught women. This platform also has several corpses that were tortured to death, likely.
| Rouqar Surtova |
Does it look like the husks are leaving the area?
"Can we safely leave? I hate being harsh, but burying the dead can be done by the town's people. If we delay too long the circle may close."
| Flouncy Magoo |
We don't know what we'll meet on the other side, but it won't be friendly. I think we can activate it later with a couple of low-power spells. I'd like to have a full quiver when we do, so to speak.
| Flouncy Magoo |
Does this portal lead to the Void, the Shadow plane, or somewhere else?
kn. arcana: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (10) + 17 = 27
kn. planes: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
A little help here, guys. If you can roll it, do.
| Rouqar Surtova |
They're still staying away from us though right? Do they look like they're merging together or anything like that? Or maneuvering toward the circle?
| GM Wolf |
They are about 1700 feet away. They seem to be joining en mass to a globuous form. They do not look to be moving towards you or further away. I hope you guys get away before it finishes.
Beorn returns to the group. He enthusiastically states, "Loarin found a few... prisoners... what are the plans? We should get them out of here but that will take a few trips unless we got some more dimensional doors?"
| Renia's Warform |
Renia shakes his head. "That teleport gate will take us straight to Mr. Unlucky. I don't think we want to go straight into his summoning circle and get stuck there. At least we know it's probably not on the other side of the world. Within about 200 miles. Still a lot of ground to cover if we want to find him."
Oh wait. Does anybody have Locate Object? What if we send a cart through but whoever has the spell studies a chunk of silver or something on it then can Locate Object to lead us to where the silver went?
Renia shakes his head again. "I'm out of dimension doors for the day but I can help ferry people away from that... glob thing."
Religion, any idea what they're globbing into?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
| Rouqar Surtova |
Locate Object doesn't have the required range. Scrying does, but it is a level 5 spell for a cleric. Level 4 for druid, witch or wizard. Does take a material component that would be difficult to get quickly though. (Mirror) or Pool of Water for divine focus.

Renia has a silvered mirror in one of his equipment kits if somebody on our team can use it.
Loarin Valeguard
|
He offers a bit unsure himself, "It sounds like we should rest. I can use the key or we can walk... they were sustained by their bindings. They are more in shock than hurt."
Sable Soren
|
The male elf before you has pale skin with flecks of reflective shiny skin almost like glitter. His white hair hangs loosely down below his neck. His blue eyes seem very intelligent and aware of his surroundings. Piercings and silver jewelry are very apparent on his figure showing his status and wealth. The chain mail suit of armor hangs tight to his figure with a simple blue tunic over it. Black leather breeches, belt and thick soled boots finish his look of simplicity and bring attention to his silver adornments. A thick curved blade resides on his back most of the time, it is nearly five feet long and a hollow along the blade allows a silver like liquid to rush along the blade. On his other shoulder resides a quiver and composite bow.
He greets you in the morning, "Greetings agents, I appreciate you tending to Koldur. I am Sable Soren, High Lord of Khorvian the Arcane Kingdom."
| Rouqar Surtova |
Rouqar says good bye to Beorn and gets the rest needed to refresh his magic. In the morning he completes his prayer routine to ready the magic that he expects to need.
"Well met Sable. Are you seeking to join our battle with the undead army in these lands? I am Rouqar Surtova from Port Ice, Divine Paragon of Cayden Cailean and Slayer of undead. I'll let the others of our team introduce themselves."
Rouqar is an odd looking one. He is a catfolk, with white fur and some feathers mixed in.... He wears a chain shirt, rapier, longbow, chakram, and the holy symbol. Although, I guess that's not as odd as Sable's description....
| Renia the Traveler |
Renia shakes his head at Flouncy's question. "We don't even have a direction to go in, do we? Those tracks led us to that quarry. Where do we go from here?"
The red-haired half-elf whistles when Sable walks up. "Now that is a big sword. Wow. I think I saw an executioner in Vudra with a sword like that. Huge curved thing like yours. I always thought it was more of a ceremonial type thing, to be honest."
Sable Soren
|
He replies to Rouqar casually, "I could be persuaded. I am here to stretch and get some exercise but I can always find that where I walk."
Then to Reina he chuckles, "Technically it is a ceremonial blade but very functional as well. It is an Elven Courtblade. Yes most would see it as but a greatsword but it has its different nuances." He answers the halfling in common for all to understand.
| Rouqar Surtova |
"Good point Renia. We still don't even have a direction."
Rouqar points down into the mine where the glob of husks are grouped. "We destroyed the mob of undead down there except for those things. They're really fast and dangerous, and apparently still controlled by something. The leaders were using mindless undead to mine and push the carts of minerals through that portal. We haven't been able to figure out where the portal leads. The creatures that controlled the mobs left through there so we're fairly certain going through would be right in the middle of their stronghold. I've lost too many friends to hasty action to consider following that way."
Rouqar looks around for the locals, trying to identify any that look like leaders. "Does anyone here know what direction the undead came from? They didn't just teleport in did they?"
| Flouncy Magoo |
There was a portal. We know how to get in, assuming it's still open. What we don't know is what we'll meet if we go through it. Or how we'll get back, if we survive.
I've got lots of questions, but no answers. Can you help us, Sable?
Sable Soren
|
"I could lead you through the portal. Though to understand it more, that would require my aide. She is busy at the moment. We can go down and have a look." He then leaves the inn and heads for the quarry.
Sable Soren
|
Sable heads out of the inn and to the quarry ledge. He asks, "How do you want to get down there, the long way or the fast way?"
| Renia the Traveler |
Renia shrugs. "We're not in a rush now so no need to use any spells or anything to get down there."
Sable Soren
|
He walks with his curved blade in hand and resting on his shoulder. Descending down the path to the depths of the quarry.
Sable Soren
|
Down he goes, taking an hour walk.
At the quarry bottom level he asks, "Where are we headed?"
| Renia the Traveler |
Renia looks back at Sable. "You were going to take a look at the portal, right? So we can figure out where it goes."
I think that's right?
