Globlob breaks into a broad grin that showcases a few too many teeth to be called anything other than manic, before he starts waggling the wand around again. This time, he aims to try to keep Biggun out of the blast if at all possible.

This time Globlob’s wand looses a burst of sound that is too much for the amorphous blob enveloping Biggun… disintegrating like a large bubble bursting, it collapses into a smear of ectoplasm that floats on the filthy water of the flooded tunnel. Biggun suddenly finds himself breathing ‘fresh’ air once more…

There are steps up out the flooded part of the tunnel (leading to a stone door covered in carvings) to the north whilst, to the east, the tunnel splits in two directions: north east and south. Actions?

Ravboom makes sure his powderhorn is capped, and that his gun is held up out of the water, and then slowly sneaks along the wall forward until he can see up both directions in the tunnel. If anything is there they know the group is there after the wand making noise through the tunnel.

Picking his way along the wall of the tunnel, Ravboom moves past the slime-covered Biggun and makes his way towards the junction in the tunnel. Silently approaching the junction, he can see that to the south, the tunnel heads into the gloom before turning to the west once more... a slightly green glow can be seen coming from beyond where the tunnel heads west... whilst, to the north east the tunnel appears to lead to a chamber...

...and Ravboom sees it immediately - there is unusual movement in the water in both directions...

Palomia breathes a sigh of relief as the amoeba swarm collapses under the weight of the second blast. "Nice work," she comments, giving Globlob a pat on the shoulder before cautiously wading down into the water behind Relas and Biggun as Ravboom readies his weapon and moves further up the tunnel. "Are you okay Biggun?"

Shaking his head wildly, Biggun staggered drunkenly to his feet and looked around. "Biggun's head hurt..." he muttered before looking at Palo. Giving himself a slap on the cheek to get himself back together, he grinned and exclaimed, "Biggun good to go!" And with that, he took off down the corridor to see what came next.

So far, the unusual movememt in the water (to the south and to the north east) doesn't seem to be approaching Ravboom, Biggun and the others...

Ravboom sneaks back. "More stuff in water down each tunnel. Maybe more slimy stuff. Maybe throw rocks down north tunnel, splash water, lure into this tunnel, sound stun?" He whispers.


Heading back towards the staricase and his companions, Ravboom stands on the steps to the doors heading north...

The double stone doors appear to be locked... a series of cogs and gears in the walls around the doorway suggests that the unlocking and opening of the doors is mechanically driven. A second look at the door, now that the danger of the amoeba swarm has passed reveals that there is a small keyhole within an engraving of a raven.

As they study the nearby door mechanism, Palomia's eyes flare with recognition at the sight of the keyhole with the raven engraving. "This must be the door that this key fits!" she exclaims, pulling out the key they'd found back at the first abandoned building. "Finally, something decides to go right."

"Whatever's on the other side of that door isn't going anywhere though," she muses as she looks at the others. "Let's try Ravboom's idea first and check those other tunnels. I'd rather not have something else creep up to eat us while we're dithering around."

"Wow, good aim Biggun!" Relas cheers, still paddling around in the water. "Maybe Ravboom should make you a BoomRav too...er...a BoomBiggun? BoomBig?"


Taking aim at one of the areas of turbulent water, Biggun throws a lump of rock... it splashes down into the filthy water cretaing a mighty wave - a wave that turns and builds as it approaches the goblin...

Perception DC10:
Something gelatinous is moving within the wave... similar in form although much smaller than the swarm that attempted to digest Biggun, it appears to be a single entity.

Knowledge DC11:
Giant amoebas, organisms that can spilt off from swarms when they become oversized, attack through grabbing and constricting their prey...

"Ewww!" Relas cries as the giant blob-like thing approaches, but rather than flee he does his best to move up next to Biggun and help the goblin hold the line. "It can't eat both of us at once!"

"It looks smaller than the last one...maybe regular attacks will work?" Palomia calls as she moves up to get a clear line of sight to the creature. She points her finger and sends another small orb of acid whizzing towards the blob.

Growling in anger, Biggun took a step to the side and held his chain up in front of him defensively. "You not eat Biggun so easy this time, stupid jelly!" he exclaimed.

The blob within the water is twice wracked by attacks from the goblins (and Palomia) standing at the junction in the tunnel… globules of ectoplasm spray out as the membrane of the creature is pierced by gunfire and then burnt by acid…

…yet still it bears down upon the group…

Globlob lets out yet another yelp of surprise, the sudden appearance of all manner of amoebas doing very little for his nerves. Fortunately, a few choice words are always on his lips for moments like these. After he belts out a rousing tune, he snatches up his bow and gets ready to fire.

Goblin:

"Ugly, goopy, grimy, glop!
Longshanks, go and get a mop!
Goblins mush you down to size,
Shoot you, jab you, rip out eyes!"


Leaking fluid as it undulates through the water, the giant amoeba slams against Biggun… and, unable to grab him, slides back off of the oversized goblin…

Biggun laughed in glee as the jelly slid off of his beautiful body. "See? No eat Biggun this time!" With his piece said, he reared back with his chain and lashed it forward.

The smaller, single cell amoeba proves to be a much less hardy foe than the previously encountered swarm... between Biggun's chain crashing through the water, Palomia's acid and the claws of Relas, the amoeba is swiftly reduce to no more than a floating puddle of ectoplasm...

Globlob immediately moves to heft another of the rocks that Rav had gathered and hurl it down the other hallway. No sense in wasting perfectly good inspiration, after all. He aims to hit whatever is making waves down that way, regardless of how wise that is.

"Hah! That worked out great!" Relas cheers, happily bounce-splashing in the water. As Globlob moves up and chucks a rock down the other hallway, he turns and watches expectantly to see if anything else wants to tangle with them.

"Oh boy..." Palomia groans upon seeing Relas' excitement. Most of the time he was fairly calm and level-headed, but she'd noticed that there were times where he almost seemed to feed off of others and grow surprisingly excitable.

"Knew I should've formed him to look like a dog..." she mutters before raising her voice. "Relas! I know you're having a good time but try and act a little more dignified!"


Deciding that getting the attention of whatever it is in the water to the south is a sound strategy, Globlob throws one of Ravboom’s rocks along the tunnel… it splashes down sending a plume of filthy water rising towards the roof of the tunnel and, once more, a bow wave starts to form as yet another globule of ectoplasm moves towards the group…

"Here comes another one!" Relas calls as the slimy mass begins moving up the tunnel towards them. "Get ready!"

Though Biggun's jubilant attitude has rubbed off on him, the eidolon does keep his head enough to know that it would be better to let the creature come to them and give Rav, Glob, and Palo a chance to fire at it before as it closes the distance.

Relas will hold his position at the tunnel junction and go total defense.

"At least we can hurt these without having to resort to solely using that wand..." Palo observes as she fires off another acid orb at the approaching amoeba and then backs away from the tunnel junction.

Once more ghe gods of battle deigned to test Biggun, and he was thrilled to prove himself. With a mighty battlecry - "Biggun spread you on toast!" - Biggun swung his chain around his head before slamming it harshly across the jelly thing.


Palomia, throwing another globule of acid down the tunnel, sees the amoebic creature recoil as it is burnt… and then, crashing forwards through the water, Biggun brings his massive chain down hard – there is an almighty ‘splat’ as the amoeba literally explodes under the force of the blow.

…and then silence returns – interrupted only by the lapping of water against the sides of the tunnel and the occasional dripping of water from the roof of the tunnel…

Actions? From here, you can back track to the locked door near the stairs, head north east along the flooded tunnels or head south along the tunnel towards the green glow.

"Well...that went better than with the giant swarm," Palo states as Biggun splatters the second amoeba all over the walls. After peering around for a moment to make sure that nothing else is lurking in the water, she looks at the others. "Looks like we've got plenty of options. I think we should either try the northeast tunnel or go back and see what's behind the locked door."

Bringing his chain up, Biggun licked a bit of the jelly's gunk off of the metal. Swishing it around his tongue, he eventually swallowed before nodding. "Not the worst Biggun eat," he explained before looking around. "Where to next?"

"The key we found earlier looks like it'll fit the door," Palomia reminds them, holding it up. She turns to Glob. "Want to do the honors then?" she asks, offering the key.

Globlob nods furiously and snatches up the key, scurrying over to the door to unlock it. Before he does so, he takes a long moment to look the door up and down, listen at it, even lick it in spots just to make sure it is not trapped.

Only once he is very certain that the door is not trapped, whether or not it actually is, he jams the key into the lock and turns it.


Inserting and turning the key - with little thought or consideration of the consequences, there is a sudden grinding of metal upon stone… dust, coming down in small clouds, is shaken from high-up ledges whilst the water within the catacombs is patterned with ripples from a vibration that builds as the doors slowly open inwards… revealing a shrine as they crunch to a halt…

This octagon-shaped room has a low, 7-foot-high ceiling and a recessed alcove to the east. Along the far wall, on a pointed, three-step dais, a black stone statue of a hooded figure stands within a pristine pentagram. It clutches a black crown in one hand and a raven in the other. Perhaps more disturbing, a dancing aura surrounds the figure, bathing the room in a soft, violet light, while a long onyx tentacle protrudes from the figure’s hood where its face would normally be.

The statue is a representation of the alien god Nyarlathotep… also known as the Crawling Chaos.

Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday; kinda took advantage of the usual weekend slowness to take a bit of a breather!

Palomia gapes at the small shrine and the strange tentacle-faced statue that stands within. She was expecting a storage room, maybe even a small vault - but this was something entirely different. Cautiously she moves forward and attempts to examine the statue...

Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Can't actually make the DC but she'd try anyway.

"Well...all I can figure is that whoever lived here must have been part of a cult or something," she finally announces, sounding rather annoyed. "But to who or what, I have no idea. What a waste of time..."

Walking into the room, Biggun looked around. "Think it get good money?" he asked as he stepped closer to the statue. "Maybe just take crown? Be easier to carry than whole thing."

Palomia shrugs. "Well, if you insist..." she replies as she moves back out of the way, beckoning the eidolon as she does. "Come on Relas."


Biggun is next to the statue, assessing whether it will make good loot, when Ravboom suggests that destroying the effigy with the Boomrav is a sound tactic – looking back at Ravboom he notices, in the alcove to the side of the room – which is painted jet black like the unsettling statue - an old leather bag lying abandoned upon the floor...

"Oooh, Biggun find loot easier to carry," Biggun said with glee as he walked over to the old bag just lying there...completely defenseless...just begging for him to nab it. The temptation was too much and he snatched it from the ground with glee before leaving the room with his newly gained booty.


Without a single though to the consequences, Biggun marches over to the satchel that he sees lying upon the floor… and, the very moment that he steps into the blackness of the alcove, he stops…

Biggun:
In a flash, your mind is transported in to a stark, desolate landscape surrounded by a distant ring of impossibly tall mountains... Overhead, lightning flashes in a violet sky... and then, as suddenly as you ‘left’, you are back in the catacombs once more...

Biggun must succeed on a DC 15 Will save or be shaken for 1d4 ⇒ 4 minutes.

...and then, a hitherto unseen figure floats from the corner of the alcove; apparently missing the lower half of its body, a curiously amorphous humanoid 'body' reaches towards Biggun... its mouth gaping open in a permanently frozen scream...

Knowledge (Religion) DC12:
A shredskin is a wretched undead creature created either when a humanoid is skinned alive to be preserved as a trophy or otherwise killed in a terrifying way that leaves much of its upper half unharmed, such as being dissolved feet-first in acid. A fragment of the creature's soul animates the skin and seeks vengeance on those who created it, all the while trying to find a comfortable body for it to use as it did when it was alive. A shredskin may attack on its own and try to squeeze the life out of a living humanoid to use it as a body, or it might control another undead such as a skeleton, zombie, or ghoul, covering it like a morbid costume. In either case, it abandons its borrowed body if it finds a better one or the old one is destroyed.

As the creature stepped out of the shadows and took a swipe at him, Biggun glared. "No, this is Biggun's bag now! You can't have it!" With his declaration, Biggun straddled the bag and swung his chain at the thing.

Globlob grunts in agreement with Rav's assessment and makes to scurry back toward the door, when Biggun suddenly starts muttering about loot. With wide eyes, he whirls back around and is about to yell back to their abnormally large friend, but is too slow. A fairly justified shriek at the sudden appearance of the...thing slips from him.

"Yeek! Shredskin! Is dead, is dead!" The overwhelming urge to scream and run around in circles nearly overpowers the warchanter, but he remembers his "training." Instead, he settles for taking a deep enough breath that his tummy bulges outward and belting out a song.

Goblin:

"Big and eerie, floaty ghosty!
Get some fire, make it roasty!
Don't let it make meal out of friend,
Turn it into mush again!"

3 rounds of +1 to attack and damage for all. He also draws his bow afterwards.
