On the bright side, you could look at this process as extended tryouts, and once we see who sticks it *should* be a pretty solid group.


It's just the nature of the platform, I don't take it personally -- I'm going to end up botting some of the other players too because I still had ideas for plot threads based on those characters.

Yeah. I hope they fix it asap. I was unable to post on the thread days ago as it kept delaying me with error notifications whenever I tried to post.


Just wanted to check in and let everyone know I'm still here and running the game for everyone who's still playing. I worked on the level 2 map a bit more, and started on level 3 of the mines. I'll post the new map for level 2 soon -- I added a lot of new areas.

Once we get this back on track, I've got some great stuff in store -- I just got Slumbering Tsar, the Sword of Air, Rappan Athuk, and Cyclopean Deeps ewith the recent humble bundle promotion, and I'm going to mix them all together with some other stuff to create the ruins of Kalidnay and the Stoneburner horrors deep beneath.

Something else to ask, more mechanical:
Amunet-Ra is focused on 2 things combat wise, ranged sneak attack with shuriken and melee/maneuvers with unarmed.
Is there something lacking more or needed more in the group?
I'll probably focus on trip with ki throw and bull rush, going for the greater feats there and combat reflexes.


If you look at the initial recruitment thread, you will see that the campaign was based on an idea from another poster to primarily focus on the Kelmarane storyline, though I think I may use more of the AP.

The characters are headed to Kelmarane, and will do adaptations of the AP scenarios, this is all a long side trek based loosely on the 2nd edition module Black Flames. We're basically in the very first part of the 1st AP scenario when the caravan is moving to Kelmarane.

I don't tend to run stuff 'out of the box' so to speak -- I'm going to be tweaking and adapting, expanding and modifying everything.


Not really sure about the combat questions -- that would probably be a better question for the other players to answer

To more fully answer the first question -- Almah, Garavel, and Dashki of House Vordon are all AP characters -- the merchant house is changed, but those characters are basically the same. The trip to Kelmarane is basically for the same reason.

Katapesh is replaced by Raam for the later scenarios -- some of the other stuff will get changed around too. I'm going to include a lot of homnebrew and other Athasian material in and around my conversions of the AP scenarios -- stuff like Dregoth ascending (which you can see seeds being planted for in the dray story line right now), Black Spine, etc.

I'm also expanding the Athasian canon a bit -- there isn't one version of Dark Sun, so there's some leeway. I'm emphasizing the planetary adventure angle a bit more -- and expanding on the sci-fi elements. So, for example, the magic and psionics are linked to the old Alternity setting Star Drive, where there two advanced alien races -- these are the source of magic and psionics in my version of Dark Sun.

I'm also expanding on the canon versions of all the cities with lots of elements based on their real world inspirations. Raam in the canon version is clearly based on Mughal India, I'm just homebrewing a lot based on that basic set up. I use the stuff that's there, but I also expand a lot on it. The same will be the case for all the other city states.

I'm also using a lot of fan ideas from Athas.org to expand the world, such as the crystal sphere around Athas and the areas beyond the Tablelands.

I think it's a pretty interesting mixture so far, and also loaded with enough ideas and angles that I'm pretty confident we're going to be constantly surprised by what comes next.

There seem to be several story angles, what is really good.

TBH, I've read it as it was posted (sometimes slowly, from behind) but I might need a refresher on some of it myself. In fact, it might be beneficial to keep a set of player notes somewhere (similar to the "journal" in single-player CRPGs)...


Maybe we can crowd source a dramatis personae and peoples and places glossary? I already did this once above when Kethe and Canaan joined. I can resurrect it and make it editable by everyone in the campaign info section.

As far as I know Malkaer, Rokan, Pak'cha, and Kuro are still playing -- we've had a lot of turnover -- including a whole separate group from another world.

I wasn't planning on two groups -- I don't want to have a bunch of people drop and then have to recombine two separate groups.

I'm still here, Rokan had a lot of the recent non-DM posts, and I didn't want to turn it into a solo campaign :) I can resume as long as others don't feel drowned out.

That's how I'm leaning too, but Rokan needs to be talked out of heading to the serpentsingers to deal with the threat of the shapeshifting people (e.g., not worth it, not really sure if they'll have the answer, etc.)


I don't want to overrule anyone but just lay out some considerations:

Amunet will still be able to fulfill her mission later if they make a detour to the nearby Serpent Singer camp.

Rokan's concerns are real -- the dray are running around, and they are extremely deadly.

Also, I just have to share this -- I've had a lot of fun designing an NPC over the last week who is a dray 8th level temple assassin (an inquisitor/rouge multi class archetype) with the umbral stalker and sanctified slayer archetypes.

He can do about 240 damage from sneak attacks, along with poison damage if he hits on all his strikes!

And he has a nasty kalin pet too.


Sorry, make that 492 damage + poison. I can't believe I min/maxed his sneak attack this much, I bet I can get it to 1,000 + if I make higher level templars on a similar chasis for when we go to Giustenal for Dregoth Ascending.

That's insane damage.
Is that a mythic gestalt character as well, with some 3PP?
Or regular Paizo with normal rules?


He's single class with a multi class archetype (that's 3pp) and two stacking archetypes applied on the base class (inquisitor)

He gets 5d6 from stacking sneak attack from temple assassin and sanctified slayer.

You can use a double-headed flail for the sneak attack, which gives an extra attack -- all those attacks get sneak attack.

He has 28 strength from his troll hide armor that gives giant form I.

The alternative action economy allows you to attack 3 times a round.

Improved two weapon fighting gives an extra attack on top of your 1d8/1d8 with the flail

so that's three hits with the dire flail, each of which get an extra attack at a penalty.

If all those hit, thats 9d8 + 5d6(x9) + all the other strength bonuses, and you get full damage from another feat.

The archetypes also let you get a rogue talent -- get ninja talent -- get ki pool and a feat that lets you be invisible so you can keep doing sneak attack over and over.

He can also create shadow doubles to absorb attacks destroy opponent's weapons with some of his other feats.

And that's only at 8th level. If I extended this build, I could get an advanced ninja talent equivalent to greater invisibility where attacking wouldn't dispel the effect.
