Seems we have two gnoll haters in the group.

I don't think either one of you would have gotten along with a player of mine back in my D&D days. He had a gnoll paladin of Pelor. Pretty neat if you ask me. But I like both of yalls concepts so it's cool.

I also had a player who played a gargoyle Druid and another player who played a half-goblin paladin of Ilmater.

@DM Default;

While david knows all about Pugwampi (they are the first encounter in Shattered Star AP which I ran for my home group), what does Mahk know about them?

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

@Josria - In 25 years of home games (I was the DM) my guys 95+% of the time played human characters. I can only remember two dwarves, two halflings, one half-elf, and one half-orc.

Also, other than a few characters from the APG (Oracles), they played Core Rulebook characters.

Ah cool. My mistake when I was a gm for the first time, was not to tell my players what races they could play. I even got a robot wizard once.

And I try to play a variety of races although the non core rulebook ones greatly interest me. The plane touched interest me a great deal, although I do try to play the core races. This is my first time playing a catfolk.

December 26th Update

Mahk has never heard of them.

December 26th Update

Mahk, when the characters indicate they are going to go pick you up for the next part, feel free to start posting.

As an FYI I'm working night shift the next three nights (tonight, Friday, Saturday) and sleeping during the day so my posting rates will likely drop during the time. I'll try and catch up/keep up as best as I can but feel free to bot Reja & Naseem as needed to keep things moving along.

If we get into a combat, Naseem will help out if needed though primarily by trying to help our melee PCs flank :)

Thank you for letting us know.

Also I've been reading up on catfolk in my Races of the Wild D&D 3.5 sourcebook and it mentioned that catfolk like tokens and trinkets.

I'm so glad that 5th edition added those trinket lists! I'll be adding them for Josria, although I might post them here first if the gm wants to look them over to make sure that they're okay.

I guess the same is true for burning hands correct?

Also can we cut our way through as well? Mahk has a scythe.

With some effort, you could cut through it. Its a bit weaker than a tree, but just as thick really. I'd say it'd take a good 10 minutes to get through each cactus, taking about an hour or so to get to where the crying is coming from.

Here you go GM, Josria's trinkets!

Josria's Trinkets:

A glass orb that replicates yesterday's weather inside itself.

A conch shell covered in black crystals.

A quartz crystal which when looked at closely seems to contain a dancing flame inside of it.

A white gold ring with a large central diamond and two small pearls, light doesn't fall onto it normally. The ring fades and glitters unpredictably, as though it was lit by an invisible sun shining in a unseen, yet parallel world.

A small, finely polished geode whose crystals slowly fade between every color of the spectrum.

A blue ring made of unbreakable glass.

An ancient arrowhead from a bygone era.

A stone from a road that once belonged to an ancient empire at the dawn of time.

Wind chimes that glow when the wind blows.

A small silver bell that makes a sound like quiet, distant thunder when it's struck.

A small crystal snowglobe that, when shaken, seems to form silhouettes of dancing forms.

Half of a palm-sized geode that pulses dimly with purple light.

An hourglass that tells time with falling mist instead of sand.

A yellow gemstone that glows dimly when a storm is nearby.

A rag doll in the likeness of a gynosphinx.

Let me know what's okay and what's not.

Btw I think I found two languages that actually would work better for using as Catfolk: Hungarian and Czech.

Not sure which one to use. I did look up that both languages have rolling R's and since I've given Josria a rolling r accent, I thought this might be better. I'm not sure which to choose!

I had Google translate Hello I am a sorceress and this is what I got (I actually listened to them being spoken and that actually made things more difficult as it proved that both would be excellent as the Catfolk language):

Hungarian: Hello Én egy boszorkány

Czech: Dobrý den, já jsem čarodějka

So which one do you think sounds better?

Hey gm just curious here, but I was just curious what you thought of the list of trinkets I came up with. I was just waiting for your approval or your thoughts on it. Sorry to rush you on it but I just need to know so I can do my next post.

December 26th Update

Hmm...I'm fine with most of them as long as they don't have any major effects that could significantly affect the game. But I'd rather you have a couple and build your collection up during the journey.

Pick any two, trying to stay near ones that are more to the trinket side of things.

Sure thing!

Also you can use any of those I don't pick along with any of these from this list that you like to the adventure as well. I actually liked the fact that Wizards of the Coast added trinkets into 5th edition as it adds more variety to the game.

So without further ado Josria's trinkets will be:

A rag doll in the likeness of a gynosphinx.

A quartz crystal which when looked at closely seems to contain a dancing flame (it was either this one or the yellow gemstone trinket)

A small, finely polished geode whose crystals slowly fade between every color of the spectrum. (This is actually my favorite one when I did a face to face version of the Princes of the Apocalypse. Sadly the game never took off. :( )

and thank you again gm for letting me do this! I just wanted to make sure as some GMs may not want to add something like this into their games. I'm glad you were willing to. I do plan on having Josria build up quite a collection of trinkets during this campaign. I'm going to start with three since the doll is actually more of a memento from her childhood than a trinket, if that's okay with you.

And btw, and just curious here but you said you were okay with most of them. Were there any you didn't like? It's okay you can tell me.

December 26th Update

The ones I was slightly unsure of were ones that could have actual mechanical effects that may actually prove useful: the one that could predict storms nearby, unbreakable glass ring, silver bell that sounds like distant thunder, etc. There are a few scenarios that I can imagine these would prove useful if you were creative enough.

If you'd like to obtain more, you might find something if you're specifically looking for a souvenir or looking through a market or trading with others. Just ask and I'll see if you find anything.

Btw, I did say only a couple (two) and you chose three. Its fine though.

Sorry I over looked the part that part where you said pick two. That's what I get for trying to do a post half awake. But again sorry about that. I know you said it's fine but I feel bad for not paying attention to your instructions so I'll pick two: the rag doll and the Quartz crystal with the dancing flame.

Other trinkets can be found through exploration and shopping so that'll be good.

I would never have thought those trinkets would have actual gameplay effects and might upset the game.

Since we are on the topic of trinkets, what do the rest of you think of them?

December 26th Update

I think trinkets are fun and interesting, and I don't even mind giving access to "useful" trinkets in proper circumstance. So to answer, I don't have time currently to go over them all and give a list of yes and no, but as I have to look them over to give you options later you'll just come across ones I've approved of.

In short, you won't be declaring that you found a specific object, I will place objects in your journey that you can stumble upon.

I think varying ourselves a bit is a good idea going forward, though it also makes sense for most of us to have first focused on knowledges like nature, geography, or arcana based on our backgrounds and abilities. Reja can certainly pick up a rank in Kn. Religion at next level though :)

That's true. Josria was going to focus on arcana and planes, but I was going to add history and religion next. Didn't expect our knowledge expert (aka Haran) to disappear on us (not his fault mind you).

I hope I didn't scare anyone. No I'm not leaving (I'm having way too much fun with y'all in this adventure!).

So I've been looking for a new job (I still have a job, just trying to find one that pays a bit more and is closer to home), and I've been doing it on my iPhone. The problem is that I forgot to take into account that I'm on my parents' data plan and I forgot to keep an eye on how much data I was using. Long story short, I used up a lot of data. So, we have 8 days left in the billing cycle before our data usage resets.

While this will reduce my posting rate a bit, I'm going to try and keep on posting on my laptop before and after work if possible. I just wanted to let everyone know about this and I apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.
