Confused as to why Drael rushes past them, the gnome siblings discover the suli's source of terror as millions of tiny biting centipedes erupt from the earth around them, biting, stinging, and infesting their clothing!

Swarm moves to cover both Min and Rab-rab. Automatic damage and two saves incoming for both gnomes!

Min begins heaving with revulsion while Rab-rab feels sluggish from the stinging onslaught.

Min and Layaali may act at the end of Round 1! Min, you can only take movement actions, and I'll remind everyone that it is still DARK (i.e. only Drael and Layaali can see). Rab-rab, Razif, and Drael can act at the top of Round 2 after Layaali and Min act. Drael, you will need to roll a Fortitude save at the start of your turn before your actions.

Seeing how hurt the gnomes are, Layaali activates her halo. "Run," she tells them.

Then she moves up behind Drael.

Other than a blessing spell, Layaali has nothing good to help fight the swarm. Just FYI.

It was the other direction, Min. I altered your movement. Unfortunately, because of Drael and Layaali, you can't move further.

Min stumbles back from the monstrous swarm, his face swelling with each step as his body mounts an allergic reaction to the centipede venom. Layaali steps up to the retching bloodrager and activates the light of her halo. The effect of the soft glow on the millions of centipede carapaces swarming all around Rab-rab is not confidence-inspiring.

Rab-rab, Razif, and Drael all may act! Everyone can see! Drael and Rab-rab, I need you to roll a Fortitude save before you take any action. Good luck!

GM, is there any way I could spend my turn to pull Rab-rab out of the swarm so she can use her own movement to get some distance? If yes, I'd like to do that.

I’d allow it, but where would you put her? There’s no space to displace her 5 feet into. She, of course, can move freely of her own accord through allies, but you can’t displace her through friendly squares. The short answer is no.

I'll rule that Rab-rab has already sorted the problem out on her own.

Rab-rab DEX damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1 more point of DEX dmg, Rab-rab. That doesn't do anything to your scores at present, but you'll need to roll another Fortitude save at the start of your next turn.

Rab-rab races away as Razif faces down the hideous swarm of centipedes. Drael shakes off the stinging poison and re-focuses himself.

Drael, you passed your Fortitude save. You may now act in this round. Razif, if you'd like to do something other than stand there and become bug food, I'll allow you to do that at this point as well.

    Sorry for the delay. Working on a project.

    Selflessly, Layaali strides into the pile of insects, grabs hold of Min, and attempts to drag him to safety...

    She'd like to drag him towards Razif and Rab-rab, as far as possible. Her max weight dragged is 400 lbs (5x her max. heavy load) so Min is well within that weight even counting both of their gear.

    Strength: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (15) - 1 = 14 If you need a CMB of any kind instead it's +1 higher for a 15.

    I haven't moved myself or Min yet since I'm not sure how effective her efforts will be.

    Rab-rab, the grey is the internal surface of the city walls. As previously stated, this passage is NARROW and unforgiving.

    Layaali and Razif both grab Min's form and flee the scene as Drael stands in the swarm's wake, drawing and lobbing another alchemical weapon with too much force at the mass of centipedes.

    A blast of air tears through the swarm, buying a too-brief reprieve for the bloodrager before the millions of legs plunge over Drael yet again.

    Layaali revives Min, though the poison coursing through the gnome sorcerer's veins continues to grossly distort his face and body with unseemly swelling. Rab-rab fires off another blast of air, but this sirocco fails to connect with the centipede swarm.

    Drael loses feeling in his massively oedematous legs, the centipede venom preventing him from being able to take a further step forward.

    Rab-rab does not collapse under the advance of the stinging swarm!

    I have a different HP total for Rab-rab in my notes than in her status bar - I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt. She currently has 2/21 hp and 7 pts of DEX dmg (a -3 to AC and Dex-based rolls). It is Min and Layaali's turn and I need a Reflex save from Min first!

    Layaali moves into a supportive position and heals Rab-rab as Min's body further swells in response to the centipede poison.

  • I've adjusted the map so that we're not all hanging off the end of it. Things are a bit dire at present. You are all 200 feet up a very narrow passage; you're retreating downhill; it's dark (though Layaali has her halo lit); Drael is paralysed; Min is not far from being paralysed. I need a saving throw from Rab-rab to start her turn, then she, Razif, and Drael may act.

    Rab-rab shoots the bugs then hurries to the back of the line.

    Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14
    Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5 (Deals full damage to swarms)

    Then she backs up, squishing into the space beside her brother. (If I can't fit there I move two spaces behind Min)

    Razif moves up ahead a little and keeps his eyes out into the dim light cast by Layaali's halo, trying to see if their retreat isn't about to be blocked by more bad news.

    Yes, it was a Reflex save, Rab-rab. And it was successful!

    Rab-rab fires a blast of air at the swirling mass of advancing insectile legs, the chittering of their chitinous legs across the narrow stone passage leading into Kelmarane city centre growing ever closer. Rab-rab glances with worry at her grotesquely-swollen brother, marvelling at the size of his arms and legs on his small frame, failing to notice the now-halted similar oedema of her own limbs. Razif advances with trepidation, not entirely sure how to proceed. Layaali stands grim-faced in the path of the malevolent swarm, her halo glowing on the paralysed form of the bloodrager just in front of her.

    Suddenly, the voice of Alaf-laha floats into all of your minds, his voice an urgent dream-like call.

    "Fly, you fools!"

    Razif, I will allow you and Layaali to grab Drael's form and retreat. You will take some damage when the swarm hits you both, but with two successful Fortitude saves (DC 13 each), you should be able to still successfully flee. Not a guarantee, but probably your best bet at this point.

    Unless, of course, you all want to become centipede feed.

    As if jolted awake by the shedu's message, Razif turns around and immediately rushes towards Drael's body. "We need to go, now!"

    Layaali, you got lucky and are just outside of where the swarm can move to - you don't need to make any saves but I will ask you to make an Aid check to assist Razif with moving Drael (STR or CMB, your choice).

    The swarm of multi-jointed legs and pincers surges forward, bathing the bloodrager and the ranger in a horror of bites, stings, and crawling sensations where crawling sensations should never go.

    Area Damage to Drael: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 pts of damage, Drael!
    Area Damage to Razif: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6 pts of damage, Razif!
    Razif Reflex Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 SUCCESS!

    Emboldened by Alaf-laha's words, Razif springs forward and pulls on Drael's form as the centipedes envelop him. The ranger shakes off his revulsion and the effects of the centipede venom.
