Razif hustles past Layaali as she attempts feebly to help drag Drael away from the carnage just at the front of the roiling terror. The gnome siblings flee as best they can as well, their swollen forms hampering their normally-jovial spirits significantly.

As the group race past the ruined gatehouse at the bottom of the hill, the ominous clacking and scrabbling of the innumerable insects silences and the centipedes disappear into cracks and crevices.

You have successfully and wisely fled the combat. Min, I need one further Reflex save from you. If you fail it, you fall paralysed similar to Drael.

"We need to get back to the monastery," Layaali remarks. "Min and Drael need Father Zastoran's aid."

Looking at her companions who can see the sky and their surroundings she asks, "What time is it? Can we leave for the monastery now?" Then, looking at Razif she asks, "Do you think we can get Drael far enough away from here tonight? Or do we need to wait for him to regain mobility?"

@ GM: Based on how close it is to sunrise, do we think we could get far enough away from Kelmarane if we started for the monastery now, or do we need to hole up here for the day and head back tomorrow? Or do we think Layaali and Razif's strength will give out before then since we're dragging Drael?

That's fine by me! How do you plan to carry Drael out of Kelmarane? You all were able to drag him out of the combat with the swarm, but carrying him is likely going to be a bridge too far.

Help! Drael is dying again. He does that a lot. He's not moving and we need help to get him to safety so he doesn't die a horrible death. Help! Help! HELP!

She gives the letter to someone else to activate the bird token thing.

Undrella enters the abandoned inn a few hours later, hurrying to the side of the still-paralysed suli with a concerned look on her avian face.

"I see this as a repeating trend," the harpy says with something close to a growl. "It is becoming harder to make excuses to leave Kardswann's court. Perhaps I should just take my betrothed with me back to the battle market?" she says with a discerning and lascivious look over Drael's form. "You don't seem able to protect him very well. Look at his poor face; so swollen!" She clucks over the paralysed bloodrager.

Despite the veiled threat, the harpy assists Razif in carrying Drael out of Kelmarane, brazenly walking through the streets without attempting any form of stealth.

"Let them try to stop me," Undrella says at one point in answer to the question. "I am the consort of the ruler of Kelmarane and a mystic. My business is my own and no mangy dog-man questions Undrella." Her fierce answer is punctuated by a particularly toothy and evil smile.

A few hours and the first rays of dawn later, the gang start up the hill towards the old monastery. A call echoes out from the walls before the pass-word can be given and a small cadre of armed defenders - Garavel amongst them, rush out to greet you. Garavel recoils with disgust as he sees the harpy with you but does his best to ignore Undrella.

"What happened? Is he alive?" the major-domo insists.

Rab-rab nods at Undrella's threat to take Drael. "Okay," she says. She doesn't seem to realize Drael wouldn't want that. "Will I get invited to your wedding?"

As the group arrives at the monastery, Rab-rab nods. "Yeah, of course he's alive. He's just not moving for some reason. Probably lazy. And Min too." As Min falls over Rab-rab grabs him by the hands. "Are you okay? Here! I'll get you to the doctor man!" Rab-rab tries to drag Min along the ground for Father Zastoran to look at him.

"Here! Fix him!"

"Well, if he's not by now," Garavel grumbles, "he and most of Kelmarane are, thanks to young Rab-rab. I'll inform Princess Almah of your return; once you're presentable, see to it that you report to us in her study."

He lowers his face to Layaali. "And for Erastil's sake, stick that vulture-woman away somewhere where she won't provoke my ire."

Father Zastoran grins in a non-reassuring way as Min and Drael are deposited in his make-shift healer's chamber in the crypt where you previously fought the slime creature that attacked Uzma. The Varisian notes the harpy, does a double-take, and cocks an eyebrow at Layaali.

"Yes, dire straits makes for strange bed-fellows, eh?" he moves smoothly onto his patients without further comment. "Ooooh, yes. Nasty venom, mmmm. Insects, yes. The suli has been rigor mortised. Without the mortis, of course." The creepy alchemist looks up under his bushy eyebrows for a reaction from the group. Seeing none, he proceeds to anoint the bodies of the two paralysed (or, semi-paralysed) with a substance from a clay bowl.

Min:
It smells TERRIBLE.

He then mixes a reagent with a blue powder in a glass decanter. The liquid fizzes and pops. Father Zastoran forces half of the liquid down the throat of the immobile bloodrager before offering it to Min.

I'll assume, Min, that you drink it.

Drael wakes up. Min feels less like death.

Drael emits an involuntary groan as his muscles begin to work for the first time in hours. Still too weak to even sit up, he opens his eyes, looks around at everyone around him, and immediately falls still again.

She offers her thanks to Father Zastoran, then turns to Undrella. "Thank you for your aid. Drael, once again, would not have survived without you. We are in your debt." She gives Undrella a respectful bow. "Will you return to Kelmarane?"

Min drinks the potion Zastoran prepared, then gags at how gross it is. "ACK!" He spits on the ground, trying to get the taste out of his mouth.

"Ewww... Thanks?"

Then he rolls over and tries to sleep.

Rab-rab hugs Min. "Are you dying, Min?! Tell me you're not DYING!!" She wails dramatically, worrying over her brother for a while, until he assures her he's not. Then she grabs Min by his hands and drags him back up the stairs to a nice comfy bed -- but the trip there is not comfy at all! Once she gets him in his bed, bonked and bruised, she tucks him in. "Goodnight!" Then she hops into the bed beside his and goes to sleep.

I'll assume that Layaali will burn any further healing she has before y'all collapse into fitful sleep punctuated by nightmares filled with scuttling bugs.     Feeling refreshed, though still weary from old wounds, Layaali checks on Min, Rab-rab, and Drael.

    "Oh dear... You'll need much more rest, at this rate..." She putters around, collecting badges, swabs, and poultices, then returns to their bedsides to help them recover. Does Father Zastoran have a healer's kit she can purchase? If so, she'll pay the 50 gp out of her leftover gold for it.

    Layaali's going to spend her day providing long-term care for Rab-rab, Min, and Drael. They'll recover 4 ability score points for a full day of complete rest if I pass (and assuming they agree and actually rest all day and night). The DC is 15).

    Heal Check: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 6 + 2 = 20 (This check is -2 lower if Zastoran didn't have a healer's kit she could purchase or borrow).

    This will take up her whole day.

    Rab-rab is so sore and exhausted, she lays in her bed, cuddling King Jack-jack, while Layaali fixes her. Halfway through the day she gets bored, but with some more cuddles she soon falls back asleep.

    Razif looks for Princess Almah to give his report. He mulls over what to tell her.
    It's not like we've been making that great progress lately... but I should be able to spin it positively.

    When an audience with her is granted, Razif bows and gives his report. Both as a show of respect and to steel his nerves, he remains on his knees and looking at the floor as he reports.

    "Kelmarane continues to be a dangerous place, but with each visit we chip away at their forces. Barring the occasional patrol, the outer streets at the foot of the hill appear to have been cleared out. We leave no things to chance, however, and we remain cautious in our explorations of the area. Among the area's last remaining defenses was a massive wild boar, which we have slain."

    Speaking the following part of the report comes with some difficulty for the ranger.

    "We also found some clues as to what happened to Uzma after he split from us. Nothing we didn't already know deep down, but he has at some point been captured by the gnolls. We found tracks of gnolls dragging a human body in one of the buildings, as well as Uzma's charm to Gozreh.

    After this, we proceeded to follow the road climbing up to the heart of the city, along the city walls. The roads there could easily be defended by rolling flame barrels and the like downhill, but it appears the gnolls are not utilizing this advantage. Even better, we noticed a group of trees that are growing over the city walls, a potential point of entry.

    There is, however, one problem with the road and those trees. Insects. Large bugs are known to inhabit these trees, and as we tried to climb the road, we were set upon by hundreds and hundreds of poisonous centipedes. At this point, we were unfortunately forced to retreat: they had caught us off guard and we lacked the resources to fend them off. Min and Drael have been seriously poisoned and are currently recovering.

    The silver lining is that Undrella the harpy has proven reliable as she saved us from trouble once again. Though dare I say that Drael might not be as enthused about this, heh. Be that as it may, however, she is a powerful ally with a high position within Kardswann's ranks."

    "All in all, while the mastermind at Kelamarane might be gathering forces, it seems that his grip on defending his own base is lacking. Guard positions seem to remain unmanned after we take them down, and blatant defensive features of the town are being completely ignored."

    He looks up, hoping that the Princess's response is a favorable one.

    Princess Almah receives Razif one-on-one (with the ever-present guard in the form of Trellis on guard in her private chambers). Before he provides his report, the princess directs a stern look at him.

    "Why are you the only one to come to me? Where are the others?"

    She then listens to Razif's thorough report, the look on her face indicating receipt of the answer to her previous question. She considers some things for a moment as Razif falls silent, makes a few scribbles on a sheet of parchment, then raises her head abruptly.

    "And Min and Drael? Are they still poisoned, or Father Zastoran has their well-being in hand?"

    Razif nods. "They were brought to Father Zastoran immediately, who told us they'd be alright. I believe Layaali will be assisting in their recovery for the time being."

    "There is a problem, this tendency of making allies with the more bestial and cunning of our enemies' forces," the princess begins, rising from her desk and walking over to one of her lacquered chests on the floor. She produces a key and opens the box, still talking. "The Pactmasters have provided a direction, however, and it is up to us to determine in which direction the wind blows us. Ah yes, here it is." With that, she produces a small skullcap of finely-stitched wool.

    She hands the skullcap to Razif. "It does not inspire confidence to have Undrella, if that is her name, walk about our troops with bare talons and fangs. Give this to her; ask her to wear it when she comes to us. This will at least get Garavel to stop murmuring murderous things. I would have this back once our mission has been completed."

    She has given you a cap of human guise.

    "You will need a full day to rest, I take it. No matter," she says, cutting off a reply from Razif as she returns to her seat. "I will have Dashki show his worth by scouting some more around the trees that you've helpfully identified near the city walls. You and your colleagues have important work to do, Razif. You'll need your health to do it. Dismissed."

    And with that, Razif is ushered out of the princess' chambers.

    What now? You have a single day (night) of downtime.

    If possible with our nocturnal schedule, Razif would like to see if he can get some Alchemist's Fire for a possible rematch against the centipedes. He also gives Undrella the skullcap along with Princess Almah's request.
