Male Sylph Inquisitor Level 1

Sorry, lots of stuff happened yesterday.

I pull the bolt back and fire again at the pug king. Attack:1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 6 - 4 = 17 For:1d10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 I took into account firing into Melee.

AoO of 2d20 + 2 ⇒ (11, 8) + 2 = 21 results in a 10 to hit for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 damage.

Horgun makes a clumsy swing at the ape as it dashes past, drawing his attention away at the wrong moment to defend against the warhammer. He curses and hops in place to regain his balance. Then, with his shield held up to ward against further strikes, he tries to lay a return blow through the cursed influence of the creature.

Since attack, 2d20 + 4 ⇒ (10, 20) + 4 = 34 results in a 14 to hit for 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 damage.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

I'm gonna rule that a natural 20 bypasses the unluck aura. Roll to confirm

Confirmation of 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 potentially adding 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (3, 2) + 6 = 11 damage.

Cackling wildly Chee does a little dance on the statue Who is da best?! Chee is da best!

Feeling the sense of unease/misfortune returning, Chee screeches at the pug Hate you all! Chee grabs a flask of oil, unlit, at throws it at Moknokk.

Oil attack 2d20 + 7 ⇒ (3, 1) + 7 = 11 deviation 1d8 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6 Deviation indicates that the flask should impact G4, but I'm not sure if the door frame would block it. I'll do G4 for now, but change it if you disagree.

Seeing the flask miss, Chee makes a rude noise.

Human Bard 2

Aakim will keep singing, watching out if anything else comes from behind the group.
Spending another round of Insipire courage, and I turn my back to the fight so I can see if something tries to flank us.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

Map has not changed.

Jesail fires his crossbow once again, but Horgun's bulk prevents any real accuracy and the bolt sticks into the wall behind the creature.

Horgun is finally able to shake off the tension in the air and strike a solid blow, sending the creature reeling, but still on it's feet.

Janos strikes out with his spear, aiming for the King, but he cannot hit the small thing.

Longspear: 2d20 ⇒ (9, 17) = 26

Chee's flask rebounds off the doorframe, cracking open just inside the doorway (Landed G4)

As Aakim looks behind the group, he can spot something peering out from a doorway but it's gone as soon as he saw it, leaving him wondering if he saw anything at all.

Round 3

The King screams obscenities in Gnoll at the Dwarf, swinging the oversized hammer once again. He almost loses his grip as the weapon rebounds soundly off of Horgun's shield.

Warhammer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Party's turn once again.

Horgun makes a clumsy return strike with his axe, his skills seemingly deadened by the cursed creature. Holding his shield up he retreat three steps to try and lure his foe out where the others will have a clear shot and Argia will have room to swoop down.

Attack is 2d20 + 4 ⇒ (11, 8) + 4 = 23 for a 12 potentially doing 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11. Then making a 5ft step away.

Human Bard 2

Aakim, seeing his companion still cursed by the bad luck, tries to concentrate his singing even more. A powerful scream suddenly erupts, aimed at the gnoll.
Casting ear piercing scream, DC 14, damage 1d6 ⇒ 2 sonic damage and dazed condition for 1 round, Fort halves damage and cancels the dazed condition. I also Inspire Courage for 1 more round.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

As Aakim casts his spell, he can feel the creature actively resisting him.

Roll to overcome spell resistance. You can take a 5ft step to be outside the unluck aura, otherwise roll 2d20 to overcome

Chee throws another oil flask at the creature

Attack 2d20 + 7 ⇒ (11, 10) + 7 = 28

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

Horgun's strike misses, the King laughing, shouting at him in Gnoll (does anyone actually speak Gnoll?).

Jesail reloads his crossbow and steps out of the aura, firing at the now open King, his bolt biting flesh as it tears a long gash across the king's face, which begins to bleed profusely.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 Damage:1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Aakim's SR check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Aakim's scream seems to hit the same cursed aura as the rest of the party's skills sink into, disapating before it reaches the creature.

Janos, seeing Horgun's movement, also takes a 5ft step back after striking out with his longspear, but it still unable to get through the creature's defenses.

Longspear: 2d20 ⇒ (2, 19) = 21

Chee's flask hits the creature's armor and smashes, covering him with oil.

Round 4

King Moknokk cackles as Horgun steps back, puffing himself up despite being slick with oil. Clearly he thinks you're retreating, and is following up, moving and swinging the hammer at Horgun with a single action, but once again fails to connect. (5ft step and swinging)

Warhammer: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Can't update the map atm, not at home.

Horgun spins around to the north as Argia launches herself at his command from the south, and he throws caution aside to let loose with a flurry of strikes. His axe cut is followed by a shield strike to the face while Argia bites and claws from the other side.

Move to E2, Argia attacks from from E4 for flanking, shield bash reduces AC to 17. Axe attack is 2d20 + 4 ⇒ (10, 11) + 4 = 25 for a 14 to hit doing 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 damage. Shield bash is 2d20 + 4 ⇒ (17, 10) + 4 = 31 for a 14 to hit doing 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 damage.

Argia's bite is 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (10, 20) + 5 = 35 for a 15 to hit doing 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage, the first claw is 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (15, 15) + 5 = 35 for a 20 to hit doing 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage, the second claw is 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (14, 12) + 5 = 31 for a 17 to hit doing 1d4 ⇒ 4 damage.

Chee screeches at Janos Light him on fire! Use Spark! As he readies another flask

Oil flask touch attack2d20 + 7 ⇒ (20, 9) + 7 = 36

Human Bard 2

That didn't work out...
Aakim casts flare (DC 13) on the gnoll while he keeps singing.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

Just to be clear, he's a pugwampi, but he's speaking gnoll. No one is too badly hurt Janos. Unless you guys say something, I'm having you go in the order that you post. Just so you know.

Horgun and Argia move into position, flanking the creature who screams in rage. One of Argia's talons bite flesh, opening another gash in the pugwampi's shoulder.

Janos' attack once again finds nothing but air.

Another of Chee's flasks cracks against the creature's armour, adding the goop now sticking to him.

Aakim tries a different spell, this time he's able to pierce the King's natural resistance, and the creature covers his eyes momentarily to shut out the blinding light.

SR Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Moknokk Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Jesail loads another bolt and looses into the fray. Horgun sees the bolt stick into the doorframe not inches in front of his face.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 6 - 4 = 15

Round 5

The King's eyes are watering and he is hurting quite evidently. He takes a swing against the bird that gave him his most recent cut, barely hitting her talon (1 damage).

Warhammer: 1d20 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 2 - 1 = 15 (1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0)

Horgun lets out an angry yell, almost synchronized with Argia's croaking cry, and the two of them lash out together with axe and claw. The injury and hex together throw Argia completely off balance, but Horgun's fury lets him get a telling blow.

Horgun attacks with axe, 2d20 + 6 ⇒ (12, 19) + 6 = 37 for an 18 to hit doing 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 damage.

Argia attacks; bite 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (8, 12) + 5 = 25 for a 13 to hit doing 1d4 ⇒ 4 damage, claw 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (1, 19) + 5 = 25 for a 6 to hit doing 1d4 ⇒ 4 damage, claw 2d20 + 5 ⇒ (1, 15) + 5 = 21 for a 6 to hit doing 1d4 ⇒ 2 damage.

Burn! Burn!

Chee throws a tindertwig at the king, hoping to ignite him Ranged touch2d20 + 7 ⇒ (18, 15) + 7 = 40

Horgun axe is buried in the monster's chest as Chee's tindertwig hits the oil and instantly ignites it. Horgun manages to pull his axe and hand away, with only minor singes to show, but the gurgling noise the King was making turns into panicked screams as the fire burns him. The king starts running back towards his throne but trips, falling on the ground and knocking himself out. The smell of charred pugwampi flesh is quite acrid.

Well done! 500XP for that encounter, so you guys should level up! Try to keep that stuff out of the main thread, and I have guidelines for leveling posted in the discussion.

Wahoo!!! Maybe I can actually hit something for once this game now. . . :)

Exhausted from a long battle of flurry of failers, The Prophet will just go flop down in the king's "throne" for a moment as he contemplates all the mysteries he has unlocked within his divine mystery. . .

"I swear, the door spoke. I think it was sad,. . . but look at this, and who wouldn't be. ", motioning at the rest of the room behind it.

Chee runs over to the king and excitedly watches him burn The beard will carve and Chee will cook, then its time to have a look. Once you're done, we'll take the head, then lady that knows you're dead!

Is there anything Chee can see on the king's body that might be endangered by the flames?

Horgun leaves the others to their diversions, and Janos to his insane ramblings, as he follows the old pirate maxim. Loot anything not actively on fire. With a practiced eye he turns over the room for valuables and curiosities. "I'll be well pleased to see the last of those cursed things. I feel as if I've lead weights tied to me hands when they're about."

Human Bard 2

That was a though one. I am pleased to have such worthy companions. Aakim then starts inspecting the body of the pugwampi king. We must rid this sacred place from the corpes of these foul creatures. he says, and if he sees no danger incoming, he will start gathering the dead bodies and bring them outside of the monastery, to set up some sort of pire.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

Chee can see that The King is not wearing anything really flammable. He is wearing very small armor. That will probably be hot for a while.

Anything valuable on the king, aside from war hammer and armor, and are the weapon or armor particularly valuable looking?

Chee helps Horgun loot the room while the king's body cools. Once ready, he cuts the head off and drags the body outside.

Male Sylph Inquisitor Level 1

I lower my weapon and wrinkle my nose at the stench. "It's dead. Finally. Such a foul creature, it's musk only matches it's nature. Hopefully we just cut off the serpents head and we can finally cleanse this holy place of their filth. What do you say brother?" I say to Janos.

"They tell me that the corruption goes further, but it can't see past this room, so only that there are others. They are different though. But you are right, we should remove the taint from this area and cleanse the room. I think Haleen would be proud."

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

Searching the room, the companions find a ball of cloth stuffed undernearth the throne. Inside is a non-descript gold ring, and a tiny wooden box attatched to a leather cord.

The King was wearing a Tiny Breastplate and the hammer is a small Warhammer, looks like it was sized for a gnome or halfling.

I was trying to be subtle. ;)

Horgun grumps unhappily. "This be a small haul, I fear. Though maybe the creature were smart enough to hoard enchanted items. Someone look them over, would ye?"

Male Sylph Inquisitor Level 1

I look at the dwarf. "My good dwarf you seem to want every little item we come across. These items are of little value when the real treasure is restoring this sacred place to it's former glory. Why do you crave these menial items so?"

"Anyone care is I take the little box? " as I rise from the "throne', which is actually very uncomfortable for my size and start slicing into the door with my knife to make little slivers of glyphs.

I'll cast another Detect Magic and just do a quick scan of the room for Horgun.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

The box, ring and warhammer are all magical Janos. No other magic in the room

Horgun shakes his head sadly. "Here's some wisdom about the world for you, kid. Treasure be anything what has value to a man, and what most men value be things that bring them closer to their goals. You care about the glory of your goddess and the purity of your devotion. A right worthy cause that, to be certain. So restoring a sacred place of hers be a treasure for you."

The dwarf taps his chest. "My goals in life are to travel the world and to do so in comfort and style. Now maybe that ain't so selfless as your goals, but there's plenty of worse ones out there." He runs a hand over his crude sackcloth tunic with a snort of disgust. "As circumstances have it I be short on both the freedom to travel and the means for any comfort. To remedy the first I need to please the Lady in charge. For the second I need what valuables I can claim as my fair lot. As I see it, them be perfectly reasonable things for a man to care about. We can't all be holy men."

Laying a hand on Horgun's shoulder, and stepping between Jess, "He does have a point, ya know. We could use what help we could gather, and what is handed down to use by the fates, why not accept. No harm in that, and comfort can be nice sometimes."

"I sense that these three items carry an enchantment of some sort. . . but they don't speak." <unless they actually do speak to me>.

Male Sylph Inquisitor Level 1

I nod. "Just as well. I accept that which is given to me freely. However, I will only accept what I need. The rest is up to those who wish a share. In the meantime I will stand vigil less more of these foul creatures creep up on us as we go over our spoils." I have my crossbow fully loaded and ready. <Edit> Damn it. I can't actually use it for anything. Actually, can anyone really use a Phylactrey of Faithfulness? I've never seen the point it the item?

Horgun shrugs it off. "It's no skin off my nose who carries it, just so long as we get a full split when we're done." With their foes dead and the room clear, Horgun goes back out to check on one of the untouched rooms. For a start he heads to the door he was about to open before the noise drew them away.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

I believe Jesail is the only person in the party that could actually use it. It's definitely a paladin/cleric/inquisitor item, since most of their powers are granted by a god... which would make it difficult for them to do stuff if their god was pissed at them.

Which door was that Horgun? Tried to find a reference but I might be missing something.

Male Sylph Inquisitor Level 1

What does the thing do? Jesail may cheat on his no looting policy if this thing would actually aid his worship of Sheyln. Or of some use other than to sell.

I know I was going in order. Where's the map? Okay, it'd be the eastern of the two south doors still unopened.

The Half-Alive Streets | Truth of the Seeker | The Sanctuary of Drowned Delight

Alright, can't update the map now as I'm still out of town (lappy doesn't have the tools), but here's the next part. I hope everyone had good holidays.

Ten bunk beds in various stages of disrepair fill this chamber, which
must once have been a dormitory for students. The roof is mostly
intact.

The east and west walls both bear sturdy wooden doors leading
to other rooms, though the door to the east seems to be covered in some sort of fungal or moss-like growth.

Room is 20ft wide and 40ft long.

Scarab Sages

"Shiney. See how it dances. Perhaps what Horgun seeks lays within the memories of dreamers lost?", pointing at the various beds. I'll go take a bit of cloth from one of the beds, cut off a small square, and gently lay out my splinters, wrap them up lovingly in the cloth and then, almost without regard for the care I just took, cram them right back in the box.

"This might be a nice place to stage a sort of headquarters for the caravan masteress and her ken? Beautiful view of the stars and all, too. I think she would be happy, or at the least less troubled."
