Zaralastra |

Hmm, just wondering if "cast" is the right verb for a psionic ability. I just used that verb out of habit, but now I'm wondering whether I should say something like "manifests" or "activates" instead.

Jin Hebimoto |

Jin cracks his neck as his servos in the suit charge up and he rushes at the beast with his powerful Piston Hammer. He raised it high as the cylinder slammed down with his strike.
Powerful Charging Hammer Smash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 252d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 6) + 7 = 14
Charge and Attack the creature AC is 16
Confirm Powerful Charging Hammer Smash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 124d6 + 14 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 3) + 14 = 25

jimibones83 |

@Lan If yur hiding, I need a stealth roll.
@Zaralastra Manifests is correct.
Claw 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Claw: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Jin races forward and strikes at the wild feline, doing heavy damage, but it strikes back just as deadly in return.
Heroes up!

Jin Hebimoto |

The cat rips into his metal suit digging deep enough to eve draw some blood, but his plan was secure. The hungry beast was focused on him. Knowing that his mighty blow created a head start at scaring the beast, Jin eased up with his hammer, the adrenaline and advantage from the sudden charge gone and tried to slam his hammer into it's back haunches.
Hammer Smash: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 152d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 4) + 4 = 14
AC is 18 Again took the 12 damage

Jin Hebimoto |

Jin smirks under his helmet and then turns to the group, " IT SEEMS I HAVE IT DISTRACTED, IT IS QUICK BUT HEAVILY WOUNDED TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AND WE MIGHT HAVE A NICE PELT AND SOME MEAT NEXT TIME WE REST. " The bleeding indicating how brutal the strikes were easily being enough to drop a normal man.

Zaralastra |

Zaralastra reasons that the beast is will remain focused on Jin, thus eliminating the need (for the moment) to manifest Vigor. Therefore, for his next action (after manifesting Inertial Armor), instead of manifesting Vigor, he will fire his crossbow at the beast.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Zaralastra also shouts:
One of you melee-oriented types might wish to get behind that beast. It won't be able to defend itself from two directions at once.

Lan Minerva |

stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12
Lan moves around the edge of the outcropping, seeking to catch the side of the wild feline. Double move, sucky stealth, but it is what it is. If the cat had come to us, we'd be a whole lot better off.

Jin Hebimoto |

Your actually kinda off there if this is the creature it was based on because they (Like most big cats) had Pounce. Meaning it would have straight on charged you Flatfooted.. which would have been bad. And since it had two turns that could have been two charging full attacks.. As Most of the Big cats do that save for I THINK the cheetah. I was actually surprised he didnt do it.

jimibones83 |

It depends on whether it sees you as food or as a threat. When a wild animal stalks prey, it gets as close as possible, then pounces all at once. When it fights for it's life or to establish dominance it always intimidates first, by growling or otherwise looking some sort of menacing. This is just my observation though, I could be wrong.

Jin Hebimoto |

No you have the gist of it, They tend to choose a target, announce their intent and intimidate the prey. If there is no significant contest or the prey starts to run they pounce and rip it to shreds. When it roared and then came up instead of immediately attacking it basically prepared.. but no matter what its next round was gonna be a pounce.. and it would have most likely been on the lighter more weakened/tasty looking people. Or whatever was in the way of their meal.

Lan Minerva |

Ah, see, I thought it was entirely a dominance issue, and simply leaving would be fine. Cougars, at least in modern days, do -not- attack groups of people sitting around a fire unless the seasons have been terrible for the creature. Or said people happened to set up camp and start a fire near where it had its babies, or a stashed kill. As such, backing away slowly would have been absolutely a possibility. If in this world 'small' cats see humans as food, then by all means, charging it was the correct response. That's why I was hoping for a know(nature) check.

Jin Hebimoto |

Animals in general see people as possible food resources if they are large enough. Charging it at least in Jin's mind was such that if he hit it hard enough and it was foolhardy enough to attack a group of humans, it would realize it is not worth it and run away. However if it's intent were to eat people, than leaving it able to choose t&%@ prey would put others in danger. Ad it was good he DID charge because that would have been one person unconscious already. either way, it would not be considered a Small Cat.. as it is the same general size as a Human.

Elisa Anima |

Elisa sighed when Jin charged in instead of waiting for the cat to attack but there was no avoiding the fight now, she charged in after him Her blade flickered with energy as she empowered it.
To hit: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 = 16
damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (2, 6) = 17
charging and using my psionic charge to empower my weapon with the psionic weapon my AC is also 16 for this round also I can't access the map atm so if someone would kindly move me I'd appreciate it

Lan Minerva |

The dc for identifying monsters is almost always gonna be higher than the DC 10 'common sense' roll, sadly. Let alone knowing motivations. :p. I do plan to invest more in knowledgeable, but that needed to take a back seat to who Lan is, as opposed to the 'extra' stuff. Either way, it's no big. :p. The only guy hurt so far seems pleased with nearly being disemboweled... So nothing lost :p

Lan Minerva |

Jin set himself up to be able to heal the group with just a few hours of work. Other members can help speed that along.

Jin Hebimoto |

Jin looks to Elisa and nods, it seemed the cat was down. He did the human thing and ensured the creature dead before starting to gut, skin and harvest it for possible rations later. A predators meat would not be the most delicious but it would be lean and it's skin and fur might fetch a price back home, let alone provide extra warmth in the cold.
Survival; Skin/Harvest: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Afterward he would slam back the Elixir he made earlier, somewhat displeased it's use was for this beast rather than a Giant. He jammed the elixir into a shoulder-mounted slot as the liquid flowed through the suit. his wounds healed at an extraordinary pace.
Moderate Elixir: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 6) + 3 = 16
" IT MUST HAVE BEEN QUITE HUNGRY TO STALK US. REGARDLESS AT LEAST THERE WAS SOME FORM OF RESOURCE GAIN FROM THE CREATURE. TODAY I BELIEVE WE GO NORTH? " Not phased that the cat cut into him not much earlier.
What skill would it be to preserve the Fur/meat/etc.. though the outside would do that for the while. And to be fair we are a APL 3

jimibones83 |

@Jin The subfreezing temperature will keep it fresh on its own for quite a while. Smoked meat will stay good even longer though, which can be achieved with a survival check. Smoked meat is pretty much what trail rations are.
Also, your survival was a success. You now have a pretty fur pelt and about 60 lbs of funny tasting meat.

Jin Hebimoto |

Sweet. yeah I knew the meat would taste funny but maybe the natural flavors will win out, Cat jerky might be fine. This will be for the smoking/preservation otherwise just apply it to the tracking again.
Jin draped the fur over his shoulders then prepared and carried the meat ready to set out.
Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Jin Hebimoto |

Yeah I realized that after the post, but cooked meat tended to last longer.. Eh, We will probably get home far before it gets old or, like you said, just eat it before it get bad. We also have no way of Salting it.

Lan Minerva |

As Lan slipped out from behind the crop of stone he'd slipped behind, he pauses for a moment, seeing the cat broken and gutted... and shrugs slightly. As Jin begins to work to peel the skin and such off, though, he just tilts his head... and looks towards the sun to try to gauge about what time it is... he had a feeling this was going to take a while.

Zaralastra |

Neither Lan nor I require rations and no doubt there will be other edible plants and animals along the way for the rest of our group. So we should not be too concerned about extracting and preserving the meat from this carcass.
I've heard those pelts can command quite a bit of gold on the open market, however, so it probably would be worthwhile just to skin it and take the pelt with us. Hopefully that will not delay our departure by more than an hour at most.
I wonder whether the fact that this beast attacked us is some sort of sign that conditions are particularly desperate in this area, even for beasts.

Jin Hebimoto |

Doesnt take more than an hour to dress an animal especially when it happened early enough that we were getting our camping situation done. He's taking the meat on general principle that food might not be available.

jimibones83 |

The beast didn't attack you, it wondered into you camp and growled, then Jin attacked it.
Field dressing an animal only takes a couple minutes, skinning it only a couple more, but butchering it will take a bit. You could just field dress it and carry it with you, but once it freezes you will have a hard time doing the rest.

Jin Hebimoto |

Your not carrying it.
" I ONLY KILLED ANOTHER PREDATOR AND AS CUSTOMARY TO NATURE I INTEND TO USE EVERY BIT I CAN. I VALUE THIS GROUP OVER THE WILDLIFE, IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE Y ACTION PREVENTED ONE OF YOU FROM BEING ATTACKED. AS SUCH I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE. THIS CREATURE HAS GIVEN US FOOD AS WELL I SHALL CHERISH IT. OTHERWISE I AGREE WITH YOU, THE GIANTS ARE OUR TARGET. I SHALL HAVE THE CAT DONE BY THE TIME WE SET OUT TO LEAVE. " Jin hefted the Carcass not seeming any more encumbered than normal
60 extra lbs doesn't bring him over medium.. which isnt worse than his armor.

jimibones83 |

The group continues with the tracks through the perilous cold. The wind bites at you. It is certainly colder today then it was yesterday. Luckily, there's been no new precipitation. Off in the distance you can see a dot in the landscape, which reveals itself to be a cabin upon closer inspection, a curious feature so far into the wild. The tracks appear to lead right to it.

Jin Hebimoto |

Jin is wary and looks around, mostly to note the possible size of the cabin, considering the size of the tracks would dictate the giant-appropiate. However, if it was not than they had other problems.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Jin pointed out the cabin for the thoughts of the rest. " SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE, WHAT DO YOU ALL SAY? "

Zaralastra |

Is the cabin sized for humanoids? If so, Zaralastra asks:
How could giants possibly fit into that cabin, and why would they want to?
Zaralastra studies the cabin for clues, e.g. smoke coming from the chimney or other signs of current or recent activity.

Lan Minerva |

Lan simply cast camouflage, changed his psionic focus back to humanoids, then crept forward quietly, still maintaining his Vim.
As he used his power, the crescent moon glowed brightly, then all of his features seemed to blur. He became a white and brown smear in a white-on-brown world.
stealth: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (20) + 21 = 41
perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
power point for camo.

Jin Hebimoto |

Jin nods to Elisa and Zaralastra, approaching closer his senses readily alarmed as it did not add up. His hammer was ready, all they needed was to have some definite proof and then they could leave... no more no less. If later the council decided they assault.. it would be with much better preparation.
