No, Dawna and Leiko have decided not to leave after all.

Okay. If no one has any objections, in a few RL hours I'll move us onto morning. I want to keep the campaign moving but I don't want to deprive you of potential RP time, either. The five of you bunking down in the temple together gives you a chance to get to know each other.

I was pretty sure Dawna and Leiko were leaving after the meal, but that's cool too.

We've reached over a hundred posts in the gameplay thread. Woo!

I got the impression Leiko wanted to go to the orphanage after the meal, too, but then Dawna said you were staying. If the two of you want to visit the orphanage you're still allowed.

I'm enjoying the RP, by the way. It is nice to see you all interacting. That's as much fun (if not more!) than the looting and the fighting.

I'll give to tomorrow morning for social RP over dinner and we'll move on. It will either be to the next part of the evening (if Leiko and Dawna decide to go stand guard at the orphanage) or the next morning (if they decide to stay at the Temple with the party).

By the way, for those who are interested, since this is a Temple, it will have a Shard Room. There will be a small Shard of the Emerald Totem inside. Anyone who wishes to venerate Emerald, Totem of Healing and the Hearth, may do so here.

Oh, all right then. I think I got Leiko wrong.

Which will it be then, Lady Paladin?

Kintal venerates the Emerald Totem, it is from his home after all.

In fact, in a way it IS your homeland. In food terms, the Totems provide the fuel which nourishes the land. When a Totem dies, the land dies - as happened in what is now the Obsidian Badlands.

Oh, if that's still an option we shall leave.

Play goes forward! As noted, you've been split into two groups. Dawna and Leiko are heading to the orphanage. The others are spending the night at the Temple of the Quiet Hand. I've separated what's happening with each group with spoilers.

You might notice that the roll20 map is mostly dark. My tabletop players were nice enough to buy me a subscription to roll20! Which means we now have dynamic lighting. That lets me set up lighting to stop at walls, account for torchlight, low-light vision, dark vision and so forth.

There is a small everburning torch on the left wall near where the guy are sleeping. That and a second, larger everburning torch in the southeast portion of the floor are the only lights present at the moment. That'll affect how light works for each of you.

Kintal, you should be able to see further than Milo because of your low-light vision.

Telthes, you should be able to see everything due to your darkvision with no restriction except for walls. If there is a portion of darkness on the map that should be because there's a wall in the way.

If this isn't the case for anyone, please let me know and I'll adjust the light sources on the map.

sorry I was super busy yesterday and couldn't post.

also don't mess with Telthes, he may not be awesome at hitting, but he only needs to hit once.

If Telthes doesn't post by this afternoon I'll assume his action and continue.

In character Telthes will try to kill all the enemies.

Out of character we should try to capture the last one alive for questioning.

Ah, grapple! The arch-enemy of GMs everywhere.

We meet again.

:)

Youd be surprised how often ive had to resort to it as a caster...Its worked most of the time as well, which is just mind boggling.

Milo? Kintal? It would be nice if we could wrap this part up so y'all can regroup with the others in the morning...

It has been three days since last posting. I am concerned. Is everyone still with us?

Male Ifrit Paladin 1

I thought we were heading to see the locksmith?

It was mentioned. It hasn't actually happened.

Ill admit I also thought we were waiting for you JGray ;)

Sorry for the confusion. I try not to assume my players are doing something unless they specifically say they are. When GMs do that they sometimes steamroll their players.

No worries these things happen at the start of the play by post.

I am still here. Thought we were waiting on someone else. Also thought we were headed to the locksmith.

Moving this over from the IC thread.

On my character sheet I have the base for each weapon (BAB, Str/Dex, Weapon Focus, Enhancement, etc). Then, when attacking I list any other modifiers (Inspire Courage, Bless, Haste, etc).

For instance: Attack-rapier: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 21 <-- +1 Inspire Courage, +1 Bless, +1 Haste
Other common modifiers might be Point Blank Shot, Favored Enemy, Racial Hatred, and the like.

I don't do it, but I have also seen people who put the majority of the common rolls (attacks, perception, stealth, knowledge, etc) into their character sheet. Not sure whether it reads the / in the second [/dice}, but it would assuredly speed things up if people need to post in a hurry, or frequently have multiple modifiers and like to cut and paste things.

--------
If anyone wants, I can email my character sheet, or feel free to use it. It is probably not perfect, but after nearly 4 years on the board, I think it works well for finding information and letting others (the DM) identify things.

Just a short chef's 2 cp.

Waiting on Dawna. If she hasn't responded by this evening I'll make her action for her.

As this is V-day, I probably won't have a post bringing us to the next portion of the adventure up today. I apologize for that but the spouse comes first. :)

Again, sorry. Power has been out most of the day. Posting from the iPad is possible but not setting up a full dungeon crawl.

You in the northeast? Or is the power out elsewhere?

I'm in the northeast, yeah.

You going to TotalCon next weekend?

I am not. Sadly, cons are a bit out of my budget this year.

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Ah, too bad. I should be there Saturday and Sunday. Maybe next year.

[Img] [Info] [Sheet] Female Human Paladin 1

I strongly recommend we switch to a block initiative. Individual scores just delay the game too much. If every player posts once a day with individual initiative, the last in order has to wait for as many days as entities are in before them in initiative order and in the mean time the game looses it's pace.

I prefer to keep individual initiative but I don't mind people posting their action ahead of their init order with some if then statements. (I'll try to do X but if I can't I'll do Y).

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

Both systems work fine. Always post in the alternative:

I attack X with my sword,

But, if X is dead or moved away, I draw my bow and fire,

If there is nobody in view, I move in front of the squishy wizard in case something tries to attack, and go on total defense.

-------
You can easily post 3-4 alternatives if your initial action has that big a chance of not coming to fruition.

In this case, everyone can easily draw a ranged weapon and fire at the cube, and then 5' step back. The order really does not matter.

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

I am off to TotalCon this weekend. Might be able to post, but it is likely to be light until Sunday night.

Sorry all. We've been without water all day because our well pump broke. This and a few other things have ruined my GMing ability. I'll be posting in the morning.

[Img] [Stats] [Info] Female Elf Cavalier 3

Should I roll for attack and damage as well?

Good luck with the water in your home.

Dawna, I rolled for you. And thank you.

Sorry about that, everyone. The last few days have been a bit hectic between snow, family and my new book coming out.

Hey, Ive been in enough games to know you have to just wait sometimes. As long as you keep returning, I dont see much trouble.

Breaks, especially when the person checks in and informs the rest of the players what is going on is fine. Long disappearances not so much. So far, your breaks have been less than many players, and DMs, non-breaks, so no problem here.

Plus, it gives Kintal time to cook a meal for everyone.

My computer has been rendered inoperable. So, I may have difficulties posting.

I know Leiko's having computer issues but everyone's been very quiet. Everything okay?

The Exchange

Male Halfling (Emerald Shire) Swashbuckler/1 (HP: 8/12; AC21; FF16; T16; F+3, R+7, W+3; Perc: +8, Init +4)

I'm here. Not sure who is planning on acting. Kintal does not have any lock picking skills, unless it involves a kitchen pantry.

Male Ifrit Paladin 1

I thought we said we were going down the next path?

Checking to see if Dawna and Leiko are still with us... ladies?

[Img] [Info] [Sheet] Female Human Paladin 1

yes... I am working on it. Sorry. :(

Honestly, I've kinda been getting squicked out by the whole, being inside the flesh of another thing and being very uncomfortable. :/

Sorry, Leiko. I'll try to tone down the squickiness. If you all like, after this adventure is over we can move to another city in Krystallos? Perhaps Dawna's home city?
