As the sun rises and the day warms, you grow accustomed to the sounds of birds and so on, and are instantly aware when they stop. Once or twice it's a false alarm, and you go back to chewing trail rations, but in one instance, you ready your weapons as a cracking branch signals an impending charge.
Cricket Perception, with forest favored terrain and Aid Another from everyone else: 1d20 + 11 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 11 + 2 + 6 = 32
Boar stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
You're aware of the monster's intent and direction before it breaks from the forest. Anyone with reach weapons can take a swing at him as he comes. Anyone who wins initiative can attack him as he goes by, before he gets the chance to gore someone.
Boar initiative: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 2 = 21

Jaegr "Knock Knock" |

Kirth, is there anything that can be done with grit to re-roll or get bonuses on the roll? I don't have any of the rules with me right now
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Kirth Gersen |

Kirth, is there anything that can be done with grit to re-roll or get bonuses on the roll? I don't have any of the rules with me right now
Yes -- 1 point of grit can be used as 1 hero point, to either force one d20 reroll outright or else add/subtract 1d6 + Cha mod to one d20 roll.

Kirth Gersen |

The boar acts in a frenzy of speed, choosing a new target to gore, but having learned from its previous attempt, it pointedly ignores the heavily-armored targets:
1=Caspian; 2=Cricket; 3=Miralda; 4=Wyvurn 1d4 ⇒ 4
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 212d6 + 19 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) + 19 + (2, 4) = 29
The monster angles for Wyvurn, who had threatened it with his blade on its last charge. This time, it would have savagely gored the doughty hobgoblin, except that Wyvurn's keenly-honed sixth sense allows him to twist aside even after it's seemingly too late; the boar's tusk misses him by a hairs-breadth.
Everyone can now act: Cricket (and Wolvie!), Kelgan; then Caspian; then Jaegr, Wyvurn, and finally Miralda. Also, Kelgan can still resolve his AoO due to his reach weapon.

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid |

Cricket strikes a strange pose. He stares down the devil boar with his hands behind his back. He shakes his head once. Then, again. Then, he nods his head up and down, looks over his left shoulder, winds up and pitches a wicked sidehanded slider!
To hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Fire burns for ??? rounds: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Rest of spell:
Wolvie whines and thumps his tail excitedly, obeying his bestest friend's command.

Kirth Gersen |

The burning pitch would have missed the boar, but, sneering at you through its tusks, it intentionally stands still just long enough for the ball of tar to strike. The fire fails to burn the monster, or even singe its fur. Looking at you, it growls, "Fire has no effect on a thing from the Pit."
Kelgan: You're up!
Then Caspian, then Jaegr.

Kelgan Cragbelly |

Sorry, busy week of midterm exams.
AoO: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 241d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Non-magical glaive
The Devil speaks! Stay close, Miralda.
Kelgan falls into shield stance with a well-practiced motion. He snaps his shield down and locks the glaive into the slot on its side. He grounds the butt of the glaive solidly in the earth with his foot and prepares to gut the boar on its next pass. While the glaive is shaped differently than a boar spear (and lacks its cross-bar!), it will do well enough to spit the murderous swine.
Glaive doesn't have the brace property, so just readying a pre-emptive action to strike at the boar when it closes.

Jaegr "Knock Knock" |

Jaegr charges the creature bringing his pickaxe down on the beast, "I don't know what you are, but I will bring you down all the same"
Power Attack with Crushing Blow, +2 Keen Pick Axe: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 2 = 24 Ignore 2 Points of opponent's Armor Bonus[/b]
Damage: 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
Status AC will be 24 this round

Kirth Gersen |

Miralda claps her hands at Caspian's idea to prevent the boar from running off again, and yells in disappointment when it doesn't work.
Jaegr's pick connects with the boar's side; again, the monster's hide seems to absorb some of the blow, but it's packing an awful lot of power behind it, and the brunt of the injury seems to get through to the thing.
It doesn't seem to be visibly wounded, however.
Wyvurn is in flanking position, and it's his turn to attack.

Wyvurn |

Wyvurn steps in to harry the creatures flank
Longsword (flurry attack 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 241d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Longsword (flurry attack 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 251d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Channeled Ki: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 6) = 9

Kirth Gersen |

The boar seems to recognize Wyvurn's blade as its most immediate threat; it attacks the hobgoblin again, determined to gore him to death.
1d20+11; 2d6+18+2d6
Wyvurn is hurled to the ground like a rag doll by the horrifying impact of the monster's tusks; he lies there, unconscious, amidst his own blood.
Wyvurn is at -5 hp, but thankfully doesn't need to roll to stabilize, since his fast healing will kick in.

"Curses! Miralda, back up. I've got to shelter Wyvern."
Kelgan shifts to shield Wyvern instead, trying to prevent the boar from savaging him further.
He swings mightily at the beast, aiming for its eyes.
Glaive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 271d1 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 202d10 + 8 ⇒ (9, 10) + 8 = 27
Spending a point of Grit to gain Blinding Strike for 1 round. Boar must make a DC 14 fortitude save or be dazzled (20% miss chance and -4 perception) for 4 rounds [Not sure if the DC is increased from the critical hit].

Kirth Gersen |

Kelgan's most ambitious blow yet strikes the monster full-on. Although lacking the sheer power to break through the monster's resistance to damage, his accuracy in this case more than makes up the difference, and the creature is heavily wounded with a gash to the head.
1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 11 - 4 = 15
The edge of Kelgan's blade just barely misses the eye, and the enraged boar snorts and tears the ground in its desire to kill.
Awesome use of grit, btw!

Jaegr "Knock Knock" |

Kelgan, that made all the difference! ;)
Jaegr continues the assault on the beast, assuming Stone Form when he sees what it's tusks did to Wyvurn. Jaegr aims for its skull, hoping to rattle its senses in case it tries to flee.
Power Attack with Crushing Blow in Stone Stance: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 2 = 23 Ignore 2 Points of opponent's Armor Bonus +2 more if large sized
Damage: 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21 +2 more if Large
Temporary Hit Points: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
I'd also like to spend a grit point for a confusing strike. I believe my weapon qualifies for it. If so the Reflex save is DC 16

Jaegr "Knock Knock" |

According to my list, which is the pdf version so may be a couple version old?
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +1, Weapon Focus with a bludgeoning weapon

Miralda |

Miralda's eyes are opened wide in panic, making her look a bit less alien. With a shaky hand, she points her wand at the boar and discharges it with a shriek:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 241d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 202d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 112d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
A malevolent gleam comes into the boar's eye as it prepares to charge the elf girl, perfectly willing to be split open by Kelgan's glaive in order to do so. Slowly, it gains its hooves and begins to move... to be blasted in the face by a bolt of force. It looks for a moment like it's about to get up again, then finally gives up and collapses into the mud. Miralda also falls down, shaking.

Cricket the Sexy Goblin Druid |

Get 'em boy!
Cricket unleashes Wolvie against the already fallen devil boar (Wolvie is so brave!) and Cricket runs over and tries to yank the amulet from around the boar's neck.
I'm not rolling attack rolls for Wolvie, since I'm assuming the boar is down. I'll make a roll anyway, in case I need it for something.
1d20 ⇒ 15

Kirth Gersen |

Cricket is now holding a wooden amulet, crudely carved in the semblance of a pentagon. It's on a reasonably heavy but very plain chain of dull metal.
Wolvie, his strength boosted by Cricket's spells, still does a poor job tearing at the large carcass, and complains bitterly that the boar tastes like rotten eggs. After a few seconds of this he steps back quickly as the body combusts; yellow flames quickly destroy it, leaving not even ashes.

Kelgan Cragbelly |

As soon as the boar collapses, Kelgan drops his sheild and glaive, nodding at Jaegr to keep an eye on the boar.
"Come on goblin, don't die on me now!"
He digs his kit out of his pack and goes to work bandaging Wyvern.
Heal: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 12 + 2 = 18 HP Restored
He also applies some of Grandmother Ruke's Grand Rebuke, a pungent, foul smelling ointment.
CLW: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Magical healing.
"There, now, back with us. Catch your breath and have a drink."
Kelgan lifts a bottle of spirits to Wyvern's lips and pours in a shot. Reccomend you take a breather.
