”This is Oleg’s home before it is anything else. I am more than happy to help fund and orchestrate increasing his defenses to repay his kindnesses to us, but whatever layout he wishes for this post, I trust to him,” Darian says. He stands and smiles at the others, ”And thank you, one and all,” he adds, placing a hand on Jory’s shoulder and an arm around Isabel, ”for helping us with those Chelaxians. I feel a significant weight lifted off my shoulders, and feel like I can finally focus entirely on the task at hand.”

He looks to the sky and the setting sun, ”Let’s get some dinner and rest. We ride again at dawn.”

During the meal, Darian is much more pleasant than he had been. Even going so far as to attempt a hand at humor. ”An elf, a dwarf, and a halfling walk into a bar and order three ales. As they're drinking their ale, a swarm of flies comes in, and one fly lands in each of their mugs. The elf pushes his mug of ale away disdainfully and refuses to drink any more. The halfling picks the fly out of his ale, shrugs his shoulders, and goes back to drinking it. The dwarf picks the fly out of his ale, shakes it violently, and yells, "Spit it out, you wee bugger!!!"

"Right. Carpenters. Masons. Smiths." Jory scribbles away furiously at a series of notes. One gets the impression he intends to make up for minimal individual chance at success via pure volume.

Jory adds a stack of missives to Lisl's and Isabel's, destined for various small-time craftsmen of Restov, otherwise beholden to factors on the wrong side of the law and looking for a safe exit. Consider it an....Aid Another??? if you intend to adjudicate the recruitment success my means other than GM fiat

Isabel watches more in amusement than anything else as Jory, Josef, Lisl and Darian start tossing building ideas around at breakneck pace. She sits back and enjoys the sight of passionate people making a difference. This is why we came here. If we can all keep hold of this fire - this desire to do better it's going to make this part of the world a better place.

Buoyed by that comforting thought Isabel goes inside and attempts to help Svetlana with dinner. Thankfully she doesn't take offence in her current good mood, and Svetlana is able to minimise her efforts well enough to ensure that dinner still comes out edible.

She's heard Darian's joke before - but it is a good one and she laughs heartily, before offering some anecdotes of her own about particularly haughty elves she's known. When she and Darian finally leave for bed Isabel feels better than she has done since the arrived in the Stolen Lands.

this good mood extends into the next day as she is up bright and early, ready to ride.

Plans made and letters sent the party once again rests. Then sets off to explore the south.

The next few days are quiet, little is seen but the natural animals that live in these plains and rolling hills.

On the fourth day you see a natural landmark. Looming over all the hills in the northern Kamelands, a graying hulk of a sycamore tree clings precariously to its last years of life. The 100-foot-tall tree is a well-known landmark and is visible for miles around.

At it's base you easily detect a root lined shaft that drops down under the tree, going down some distance.

What are you doing now?

The opening has been excavated by something, Freya looks it over carefully and thinks it's a Mite lair. It looks as if the tunnel widens a touch 10' down, but it would still be very close quarters for anyone bigger than small size.

Mites:

LE Small fey
Descended from even smaller fey, the mites are among the most pitiful and craven dwellers of the dark. Hideously ugly, even goblins have been known to mock mites for their homely appearances, mockery most mites take to heart and nurture for weeks, months, or even years in their tiny homes, until their distress and anger finally overcome their natural cowardice and impel them forth on short-lived bouts of bloody vengeance from the
doubtful safety of a spider’s back.

Mites are a nasty pest. What are you doing now?

B2. Hatchery.

The wet-looking floor of this large cavern is crisscrossed by several shallow trenches, each containing trickles of putrid looking fluid.
Six foul mounds of compost and dung lie heaped about the room, each studded with small spherical eggs.

This room seems to be where the Mites breed their favored pets, Giant centipedes. You are attacked by 3 as you reach the room, killing them easily.

The passage leads on.

B6. Common Room .

This damp room is haphazardly cluttered with broken beds, chairs, wagon wheels, and an assortment of worn, tattered, dingy, and broken objects pilfered or salvaged from big folk.
A row of bookcases stands crookedly propped against the far wall, the shelves filled with bits of bone, feathers, and dried centipede legs. Old window frames, cracked and splintered, hang upon the wall like works of fine art.

B5. War Room

Rows of wooden pegs line the earthen walls, some hung with tiny, filthy cloaks. In the center of the room stands a rickety table held together with twine, covered with a filthy redchecked tablecloth and heaped with mounds of dirt and twigs and gravel, apparently arranged to form some sort of map.
Sitting at the edge of the map, weighing down a scrap of paper, is a bloodstained ivory statuette of what looks like a crouching reptilian devil. A bulging burlap sack sits under the table.

This seems to be where the Mites have chosen to face you. Their leader screeches a challenge, seated on a revolting, oversized tick. His troops lined up before him. Behind him a huge Centipede is waiting by the chasm.
