You pretty much hit the nail on the head, zimmerwald. I was planning on making a falchion-wielding dude who is brash and outspoken about the rule of law and order. Like the movie Dredd's famous line, "I....AM...THE LAW!"

Though granted, the film version of the comic didn't exactly do very well in the box office...

I like the way you think.

We'll be close friends.

Oh, you'll have fun with that.

Assuming Kudos chooses him, of course. Not that it's unlikely, but it's an ever-present caveat.

You guys aren't making this decision process easy. There are many good choices here...

I am going to throw my hat into the ring, I think. There are a couple of different character types that I've been wanting to play. I'm going to think about which I would like to put up for your consideration and come back with a character background.

Are you allowing us to work towards prestige classes? I'm considering a Harrower, for example.

DukeRuckley wrote:

I'm always for prestige classes.

Is there some timeline/deadline for a decision, DM? Just curious.

I believe he said this Sunday.

It's not that Jeremiah can't stand in a melee (decent con, and heavy armor, will make him a bit meatier than most casters), it's that if we're trying to be mobile and evade something THEN he can't be engaged, or he'll likely fall.

Also, the -6 Ride is with scale. It'll tank even lower when I get proper armor. :P

I considered picking up a trait for Perception, but decided the flavor of the trait wouldn't fit well enough. And how does Mister Crossbowman ever survive in the city without Bluff, Diplomacy, or Know (local) on his class list? :P

Edit: BTW, don't mind how pissed the picture of my character looks. He's actually a pretty nice guy, I just couldn't find a better picture to represent him. Despite all the jokes he took for being a cripple in the last group, he didn't cast Oracle's Burden on a party member once, so that'll tell you how patient and forgiving he is. XD

Jeremiah Strickland wrote:

Do NOT listen to him.

We do not joke the gimp.
We do not laugh at his 15 movement.
We do not mock his tendency to burst from his back.
We do not even make fun of his walking-stick-spear.
We do not lie, listen to us.

Seriously though, the cripple jokes got out of hand sometimes...The elf jokes especially >.>
Ya got nothing on me, foo! I'm a righteous, law-abiding nobleman! GET AT ME!

While the elf jokes did have a tendency to get out of hand, I was more offended by jokes concerning aspects of my background, once they were revealed to the party. :/

Also, Jeremiah's a pretty chill guy.

3:30 needs to get here! I'm ready to get home and work on my entry!

Lets go with average GP worth of gear. Sounds like a decent place to start.

I went with simple stuff in Garth's gear package ... backpack, bedroll, spellbook, etc.

DM_Kudos wrote:

Kudos, I'm going to work-up Garth's written backstory tonight after work (8pm) and then recording a podcast with some friends. Any thoughts on his Pioneer trait benefit of starting with a horse? Can I do a riding dog instead?

I love the mental image of Garth riding into town on his dog and at their side, his familiar ...

Spoiler:
a randomly colored goat.

This is Dukeruckley's character:

Appearance and Personality:
Hazel, named for her hazel green eyes, is a striking young woman. She has beautiful strawberry blonde hair that she sometimes wears up and at other times wears down. Hazel is very polite and courteous, a product of her noble upbringing in Brevoy. Her cleanliness and nobility has not, however, stopped her from getting hands on when the need requires it. She has been known to get dirty and wield a hammer when someone was in need, though she doesn't have a skilled background. When Hazel gets to know someone, she relaxes a little around them, employing a little more humor and occasional flirtations that she would normally shy away from.

Background:
Hazel grew up as a member of House Medvyed, the daughter of a noble. She is learned and has in fact studied four languages other than common: Dwarven (due to her butler being a Dwarf), Draconic (in an attempt to better understand the recent history of Brevoy, and in anticipation the dragons return), Gnome, and Sylvan (both of which are due to the fey creatures in the wilderness nearby).

When Hazel turned 15, she discovered that she was unique among the rest of her family. Her dreams appeared to be more real than everyone else's. Most of her friends and family thought she was looking into things too much, but Hazel was sure she was different. She turned to a traveling Varisian, who determined that Hazel was in fact Dreamspun. Her dreams were in fact more real than others, because there was truth in them. Often, Hazel's dreams were in fact visions of the past and future. The Varisian, a Harrower by trade, taught her to harness her abilities in order to divine the futures of others.

Hazel has been practicing her ability to Harrow ever since she learned from the Varisian, who has since moved on. While she is not able to know for sure the future of those she performs a Harrowing on, often she is able to find clues. Unfortunately for her, Hazel's family doesn't exactly approve of her practice, wishing she would instead focus her efforts on diplomacy and accepting one of her many suitors as her husband.

Instead, Hazel has decided to travel, in the hopes of learning more about her powers. She has prepared by learning how to channel her ability into useful spells, even going so far as to purchase equipment to leave. All she needs is an excuse and someone (or a group) to accompany her for safety. That is when she heard the Swordlords were searching for a group of people to clear the land to the south. Her dreams that night confirmed her suspicions. She must be part of that group!

Character Crunch:
See her profile for all of the crunch. The goal is for her to progress towards Harrower. I may consider item creation feats, but I'll work with you to figure out if it is feasible. As for the actual act of Harrowing, I figure I would draw the cards using the dice generator, give some quick fluff, and then let you provide any clues if you wish. We can make it as detailed or not as you'd like.

Thank you for your consideration!

Given the response I have recieved thus far on people wanting to join in, I am going to say that the people that have dotted for interest or submitted characters will be considered and any people after this post are not going to be accepted.

The turnout on this has really blown me away with the response and I wish more people would try their luck with DM'ing.

For those of you who have submitted characters, I will say that by sunday I would like to see the characters finished up and I'll decide then.

To those of you have already played this campaign, how far did you get?
I'm starting my reading into the adventure path and want to make sure I vary things up a tad to make sure you aren't repeating the exact same thing.

Stopped after taking out the bandit camp.

Umm..... We had a lot of DM-changed events, so we're, or at least, I'm not sure where we were. We had taken out the bandit holding, but after that seemed to be mostly DM-instigated "quests" related to specific backstories, or a giant barbarian invasion.

I'm still working on Udo's build, and as there are a ton of ranged submissions, I'm going to be more focused on melee, instead of a switch hitter as tabletop Udo was. I'm thinking of taking Internal Alchemist, Chirurgeon, and Vivisectionist, showing how Udo became vastly interested in alchemy, specifically in how it interacts with the humanoid body, and how he can use alchemy to extend the limits of said body.

This being said, I do plan on moving towards Master Chymist, provided nothing drastic changes.

I don't think I ever noted this anywhere, but just to make sure you are aware, Hazel is using the Seeker archetype.

I would also like to know of your outlook on crafting, as Alchemist gets Brew Potion at 1st level.

I just made this character for submission to this campaign. I will be refining his backstory(such as more on where he's from) and statblock (such as coming up with two traits and maybe changing some skills) over the next few days.

Backstory as of now:
Tiberius Badaxe grew up as a minor noble in Brevoy. After repeated expulsions from boarding school for fighting, Rourke resolved to follow in his father's footsteps and joined the military at age fifteen by lying to his induction officer about his age. There, he exhibited a remarkable talent for leadership, owing to his analytical mind, strength, and refusal to acknowledge the white flag surrender. He married at 27, but his wife left him after only four months. At 31, he retired from the military, having never been sent out onto the front lines. Perhaps the other Brevic nobles feared the political repercussions that using him would have meant. Perhaps they had been keeping him back as a secret weapon. Perhaps they preferred using him to train new recruits. Either way, he now seeks his fortune in the Stolen Lands, where his fervent nationalism and skill in battle will serve him well.

Straight fighter, with a focus on melee combat. I don't think he's going to specialize too much in any one thing, because I hate one trick ponies.

To answer a couple probable incoming questions about things in his backstory:

Spoiler to keep the post short:
Tiberius's "refusal to acknowledge the white flag surrender," is not me trying to justify killing everyone (meaning I'm not going to be doing that). He simply doesn't believe in walking into traps, such as walking unarmed and alone to discuss a peace treaty with a foe. He doesn't trust anyone not in his "squad."

His skills will probably be updated soon as soon as I figure out which trait to give him that gives him Sense Motive.

DM_Kudos wrote:

When you say "submitted characters", do you mean "created a character alias"? Or is the creation of a myth-weavers sheet or the posting of a herolab statblock in this thread sufficient for consideration? EDIT: This is Zimmerwald, by the way. I've given in to peer pressure and made an alias.

And can we get an updated list of submissions - an apparently final list since submissions are closed? Since your last post on the subject I believe it has expanded to include the following:

PREFERRED STOCK:
Doctor Hopeless - Richard Hawke - Human Fighter
Edgar Lamoureux - Udoeak Duskwalker - Elven Alchemist
Shane Gifford - Jeremiah Strickland - Human Oracle

COMMON STOCK:
Castarr4 - Tiberius Badaxe - Human Fighter (submitted after 22:29 GMT 11 April 2012)
Chainmail - Bimbur Longstrike - Dwarven Zen Archer
Dukeruckley - Hazel Medvyed - Human Seeker
Jacob DeCourcey - Lem Clawfoot - Kobold Ranger
Littlehewy - Robeno Cizani - Human Cleric
Lucendar - Garric - Half-Elf Ranger
MJinthePit - Garth - Gnome Evoker
Phillip0614 - ??? - Half-Orc Inquisitor
Roshan - Aldus Zapf - Human Witch
Unspunnen - Howa Hidebottom - Halfling Warslinger
Zimmerwald1915 - Anwel Lossio - Elven Shadowcaster

As for having played through Kingmaker, I must say I've never had the pleasure. It will be a new experience for me. I have, however, played through Realm of the Fellnight Queen (and would like to do so again, hence the hints about Rhoswen in Anwel's backstory), which I'm told can be inserted into Kingmaker with relative ease and to much profit.

Your list of submissions looks about right.

Also, DM_Kudos, will we be using Experience, or will we be leveling when you wish us to?

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

My bad. I must have missed that post somehow. You can disregard Tiberius if you'd like. I think I was typing up the profile when you closed submissions.

>_<

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it. Skirting the deadline's a mitigating circumstance, and as Damien says, the group's lacking a front line.

Crafting is always an option but materials are not always that easy. If you want to forge some swords in the middle of a field, that will probably not fly. If you want to try making some potions, you might need to bring along a workbench and if you can accomplish that, you might swing that.

It will depend on the situation and what you would like to make. But overall I don't see why I would stop it.

As far as experience goes, I'm not sure yet. Typically I have always just said "Ok, level now" but this time I might change it up. We can decide that after the draft.

Lastly, anyone who made a post above mine that said anything along the lines "I want to play" are allowed to join. Anyone after that post I will have to decline. There are alot of submissions and adding more to the list is only going to disappoint more people.

So we're locked in with 1 melee submission, 4 ranged, and 5 casters? More submissions thsn I originally thought we'd get. Sorry, Castarr, but in the future, you may want to post with interest before anything crunchy. It's done me in before as well.

Definitely a LOT more people than I thought :)

I was expecting like...MAYBE a dm, and a couple players. Thank you to everyone who's shown such interest, Looking forward to playing with whomever Kudos picks :D

If you need another melee type, here is my kensai magus. I would prefer the zen archer, but one fighter will get lonely on the front lines, I would need to add 5 pts to his build, but that is a fun thing to do! Hopefully someone would have mage armor to add to his defense. :=)

I could prep that for you if you needed it, as could most of the other casters.

Appearance: Tall (6'9", 215 lbs) with bluish-green scales and gold-flecked eyes, S'skaar (pronounced S-scar-ar) appears to be a typical member of the Lizardfolk race, but should anyone approach close enough, they will see some humor and joy reflected in his eyes which is atypical for his kind.

Personality: Quiet and reserved, S'skaar has a tendency to observe rather than speak. Because of his upbringing, he's managed to be understanding about people taking him for one of his more savage kinsfolk, and tries to calm their fears when they take a breath from berating or cursing at him. When he enters combat though, his tendency is to be quick and precise, striking where he feels it will do the most good to protect his companions.

Background: S'skaar's beginnings were relatively humble. Born among a tribe of his own kind, his early years were typical for a lizardfolk. However, when he was just 5 years old a band of marauding ogres and giants tore through the encampment, killing everyone in their way. The marauders were pursued by a group of adventurers led by a cleric of Sarenrae. Feeling guilty that his actions had forced the marauders through the lizardfolk's camp, he took S'skaar back to his temple to raise.

Growing up, S'skaar endured everything from bullying and assault by the other youths of the temple, just because he was not a typical humanoid. He found himself studying more and more the martial arts rather than the divine ones. He also found himself being called by the goddess herself to serve. As he approached what would be an adult age for humans, his father, now patron of the temple sent him out to do good in the name of Sarenrae and to find his destiny.

What do people know about you: Follower of Sarenrae, good sense of humor when with friends.
What does your character want in life? To prove himself worthy of Sarenrae's faith and to lead the temple.

I'll submit Osmond Raknian for approval. He's a sword and board cavalier of the Order of the Shield. He's currently built under 15 point buy, but I think the premise of the character comes through just fine.

Arknight
I have a lizardman paladin using the new races guide. Check out my Justin alias. My kensai Magus should be capable at melee. If I was minmaxing he would have a falcata.

If you were minmaxing, he'd have a 20 dex, a scimitar, and weapon finesse.

Falcata is nice and all, but hardly min-maxing, especially on a Kensai

Sorry bud, but the applications are over, unless you've posted as a different alias before the 'close' post.

Noted. Now I think I understand why people will post, "Dotting for interest." I've always avoided it since those posts seemed to just be cluttering up threads. It's good to know they serve a purpose.

When in doubt, say something along the lines of 'Will post a build later'.

In an attempt to consolodate all the posts and characters that have been submitted, can those who wish to join (and can join) this shin-dig post their final submission?

Please preface that post with some sort of title like "Final submission"

And don't let party composition sway your choice in what you want to play. If I end up with 7 people who are all casters then so be it. I'll try to rework up suggested monsters to make it challenging enough yet not punishing.

I.E. if I have all casters, then probably a mob will be more "range" heavy rather than all melee, which could cripple a party.

One thing about me is that I like to be organized in these sort of deals so I apprecaite the help with this!

Final Submission:

Please see the profile for crunch and background (at the bottom of the page). I would also like to note that if selected, I would like to work out a potential history with one or more of the other players if they are interested. I think that would add to the enjoyment of the game.

"If you'd like, we could...work something out between the two of us, Lady Hazel."

Seriously though, that'd be a nice touch.

Final submission -- I would be worried I would not be respected as a magus without going for the Janky scimitar dervish build.

Final submission. Anwel is just as much Anwel as he is ever going to be.

If this were any other forum I'd keep a table for you, or advise you to maintain one yourself in the OP. Since Paizo never wants us to edit anything ever, I'd recommend keeping a spreadsheet saved to your hard drive.

I did this with another player in the Curse of the Crimson Throne game I'm playing in (and also running since the GM's life made him drop out). It hasn't paid off yet, but the promise remains. I'll PM you with ideas.

Garric - Final submission (updated to 25 pt buy and average gold for equipment). Traits: Militia veteran, Pioneer. He and his horse Grady are ready to ride, if selected.

PM sent, Hazel. Tell me what you think.

Final Submission

I'm liking the looks of a lot of these characters. Whatever the composition, the party should be interesting.
