The injured orange bandit shouts, "I'm hit!" then hops off his horse, dodging a swing of Derra's shield, and runs screaming trying to escape, but finds he can't quite get up the pallisade. The hooded one draws his bow, knocks an arrow, and looses at Andreas, "A fight eh? Try an' be amusing!" His horse jostles at just the wrong moment and the bandit's arrow flies high over the knight's head.

Andreas, Annurian

Seeing the bandits didn't surrender, Annurian rages and unleashes his full attack - nonlethally, even sacrificing his accuracy - against the enemy on the horse in front of him.

As the hooded one drew his bow, Fenn loosed an arrow of his own: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9 which puts the hooded man's hood down, but fails to make a hit. "Ha! He's supposed to teach me how to hit clothes? I'll pa-aaah!" the boisterous man's mockery is cut short by Andreas' sword which catches the man in his thigh and he screams in pain.

Hey folks sorry.. the site did not Inform me of any new posts.. or I would have posted.. here goes...

Fenn drops his bow... annoyed... he knew he would never really be satisfied with a bow he did not make himself... but that was for latter... right now the bandits were clearly trying to escape...

Drawing his longsword Fenn moves to chase down the Bandit fleeing toward the ladder and the pallisade...

Fenn grimaced... he did NOT like striking people from behind~ even low-life bandit scum like these men.. it jus' weren't a noble-thing a man should be doing.. but if these bandits escaped.. there'd be even MORE trouble... Still... he gave warning..

"Come back here ya' varmint! Yur real in tha' mood ta fight folks who can't fight back.. ya coward! Turn an face me or I swear.. you'll STILL taste mah steel in yur gut from behind if need be! We said surrender or be put down.. not make a run fur it!!!"

His sense of fairness and common folk decency and honor satisfied.. the young half elf laid into the fleeing bandit.. with righteous fury.. and Great Determination!

Fenn easily hits the bandit who had failed to climb the palisade, since he's considerably more focused on leaving than fighting back. The backwoods warrior cuts the bandit deep in the leg, hitting an artery. The bandit falls bleeding out quickly.

As the hooded bandit sees his last man fall, he drops his weapons, puts his hands up, sighs, and says, "I surrender, I'm not about to die over this crap."

End combat. Yellow is unconscious, Orange is dead, Red is dying but stabilized (for now). Hooded has surrendered.

A simple nod of his head and keeping his weapon trained on the hooded bandit.
I believe that is the smartest thing you have done so far. I accept your surrender, now if you would be so kind as to dismount.

Andreas looks at gird.
I got him covered, will you restrain him.

Looking at the other bandits on the ground.
Check for survivors and restrain those that still live. Collect any items that will be of use.

staring the hooded bandit in the eyes.
The days of praying on this outpost are at an end.
He pauses for a moment as if he is thinking
Think very hard and long about the words you use to answer our questions, for they will determine your future.

Once the hooded bandit is restrained, Andreas will move him over to the tables and sit him down gentle. He then waits as the rest take care of those things they deem necessary.

Male Shabti Unchained Summoner (Soulbound)

Annurian didn't shift to human form, preferring to keep his hybrid "wereboar" looks. He did, however, calmed down and stopped raging, so the more "monstrous from the Abyss features" he had started fading, giving him a slightly but not enough more pleasant appearance.

Silently, the bloodrager took the unconscious man in front of him and threw him over his shoulder, carrying him inside to tie him up. He repeated the same for the other living-but-unconscious bandit.

Last but not least, he went through each of the men, dead or alive, and removed their possessions, other than clothing itself, grouping on a corner of the stables. He would leave the talk to the talkers, and align once they had a chance.

He didn't really worship any gods, but yet muttered a prayer for the dead bandit. He knew what was coming for him, so his death shouldn't be taken as news; yet, it was the loss of a life, and the brute man felt compelled to react accordingly.

Thank you
He then looks over at fenn and derra
Well done everyone, anyone hurt?
He is genuinely concerned about the well being of the others.
When he gets a response he continues on...

Andreas kneels in front of the bandits. He starts to rip some strips of cloth from the bandits shirts or what ever to make some quick bandages.
It would seem that the tax season is over. Let me look at your wounds.
When he gets to the wound he gave the hooded bandit
You opened up your defenses when my friend took your hood down. You should have used your horse as a deterrent to keep an enemy away.

Andreas starts to wrap any wounds he finds.
What are we to do with you now...hmm. In these parts the punishment for banditry is hanging...or...we could take you into custody and return you to face trail in Restov. Now there they tend to hang a bandit right away, but we do know a few people and we just might be able to spare your lives...that is if you are willing to be of use. He looks at each of the bandits.

I will start this off slow. Ok? What are your names and where is the rest of your group.
Andreas pauses in between each question to give the bandits a chance to answer
How many remain and what armaments do they have?
Who is in charge?
You seem to be a capable people, why would you want to be a bandit and live a life of forcing misery on others?

Kingmaker Table 1

The hooded bandit is calm, and answers the questions in a quite matter-of-fact tone.

"My name is Happs Bydon," he started, "That dead one was Jengo, the one that got mauled by that thing," he gestures toward Annurian, "is Wulf Randell, and the third is Dio. The rest of the group is back at Thorn River Camp. There are nine more of us, armed with the same equipment you see here. They're lead by a woman, Kressle Banner, she carries a pair of hatchets," this last bit he said while watching Oleg, who grimaced and stormed off at the mention, "Ooh, I think I touched a nerve."

"I think I speak for the lot of us when I say this isn't exactly the life we'd pick if we had better options. It's just an alternative to the s*#% we were given."

Fenn is... clearly aggrieved... HE was the only one to make a kill... he had not mean to do that... merely stop the man from fleeing.

He knelt down and closed the mans eyes, muttering a soft prayer fo rthe slain, in elvish...

Elvish:
"May DESNA, guide you to the beyond and PHARASMA judge lightly.. a lost life misguided and wasted.. 'Until All are One!'..."

And he folds the man's hand over his breast in a state of rest...

Fenn will then join the others his eyes burning with an intensity... angry that blood needed to be spilt this day...

He nods gathering the loot into a sack for the party sheathing the swords are examining them with his weaponsmith's eye for quality and make... when his eyes catches on the silver amulet.. he holds it in his hands for a bit and a memory stirs... something remembered but forgotten.. just as quickly.. but has he seen this before somewheres? He shrugs and shoves in in the sack.. handing it all to Annurian for safe keeping... he looks strong enough to carry it all...

He has the right of it, but I am not sure these gentlemen can be redeemed.

This is a good start. I thank you for the information.
He rubs his eyes...not in frustration but in exhaustion. He was physically fine but the burden of sorting through the bandits words for what was true and what was false was taking its toll.
I want to hear more of your stories, all of you. What drove you to make the choice of banditry. I can understand that we all have different upbringings and such. So tell me why you thought this was the best thing for you.
He waits as all the bandits that are awake tell there stories.

Continuing on with other questions directed at all the bandits.
As to your friends back at this Thorn River Camp...what can you tell me about its defenders, the defenses and where is it located. I would like to know the layout of the camp and where these defenses and defenders will be located. I am also very interested in knowing more of the Banner women.

Andreas looks at Fenn and in a calm voice....
Happs is beyond redemption. He cares not for anyone but himself. He was willing to let his men die instead of surrendering. We offered him a way out and he would not take it. It was not until he was alone that he decided to surrender and even after his defeat he still opt to antagonize his victims. He should face justice....
He looks at the two unconscious bandits and then back at Fenn.
You have the right of it thought. When they wake up we can separate them and ask our questions to each individually. Their actions and responses will determine their future. You take the hand you are dealt and make what you can out of it. Sometimes you need to reshuffle the deck and hope for a better hand.....I am not an unforgiving man.

Fenn carefully ponders Sir Andreas' words... regarding Happs... eyes narrowing slightly then turning back to Andreas he nods in firm agreement!

Derra suggested that they allow the bandits the chance to redeem themselves.

"Killing them while the easy way to deal with them, is not the most appeasing one in my opinion. Now, giving them the chance to rrrredeem themselves to me is betterrrr. I didn't sign on to this mission to slaughterrr people. Don't mistake that as me being afrrrraid to kill. I've killed bandits in the past but giving otherrrs the chance to find rrredemption is verrry satisfying to me especially since I'm a followerrr of Shelyn."

Kingmaker Table 1

Don't know if I mentioned it before, but the other table brought to my attention the fact that I've since forgotten about the Wanted Board at the trading post. The titles of the posters are as follows: "Wanted: Bandits," "Kobolds in the Hills," "Wanted: Tatzlwyrm," "Wanted: Tuskgutter." Also, during your conversations, Oleg and Svetlana have also mentioned Svetlana's Ring, and Moon Radish Soup respectively; these are subjects regarding which you noticed they were keeping something else from you, but would be willing to share about in private.

Fenn smiles at Derra and gently taking her hand kisses it gentlemanly-like, "Brave, a Fighter.. AND compassionate... THAT sure is one lucky fellah you got fur a boyfirend back home Miss Derra...{chuckle}!"

Clearly in his tone the young handsome half-elf is merely being playfully charming... not actually making a pass at the spoken-for cat-woman.

"Well let's get on with trussing Happs up so' he's no longer a threat ta' anyone.. and get these injured folks inta' a bed. Ah'd like ta' talk with them before trackin' them back ta' their camp... but we may have ta' wait?"

Fenn asks Oleg, "Does yur misses, Svetlana have perhaps some 'smelling salts'? That should wake 'em up temporarily ta' answer some questions... see what kind'o men they are?"

Fenn smirks at Gird's comments, "Whatevah fur? They are ALL seriously injured and unconscious, there are only three of them, and the have no weapons or armor... none of us are injured or unconscious, we double them in number and we are ALL armed and armored! Wha' are they gonna do... 'threaten ta' bite us before we run them through'...?!?"

Girds look goes a bit serious

"Well aren't we planning on not letting them die? Couldn't one of them have a concealed weapon? Svetlana and Oleg are not armoured. I'll not be so casual around others safety without at least having the conversation. As an Inquisitor I have learned to always consider the innocent."

His face softens a bit

"We need to consider this, these men are not good guys, we don't know their history, some of them could be murderers or capable of murder."

Svetlana regrets to inform Fenn that they do not have any smelling salts. Never had call before.

Andreas looks at Fenn and then at Gird. Seeing that this is going to turn into another debate on what we should do.....
Secure the prisoners and search them for anything that can be used as a weapon. Get these two into beds, we will need to tend to their wounds. It is the only way we will get answers from them. We do not know anything about them, so keep your guard up. Once we know more about them and their motives we will make a decision about their future. Mr Happs is going to prison. I will see to it that he is sent back to Restov to face charges.

Andreas turns around and looks around the fort.
Until those troops get here, we are the defenders of Oleg's Outpost. I would like to shore up the defenses and make repairs to what we can.
He turns and faces Oleg.
That is if this is ok with you Master Oleg?

walking over to Derra...
The first thing to repair is the stable doors.
he give a genuine smile to Derra
that should be your task, but we can all work together on the repairs.

he once again turns and faces these new companions.
I am sorry if my manners or tone offends anyone. This is not my intent. I wish for everyone here to have a say in what we do, but we can not get bogged down in debates on what is right or morally just. You make your mind known and we make a decision. I am fine with making that decision, I can handle that burden, it is what I have trained for. We need to come together and move forward as a unit. We were able to take out these bandits with some good planning, teamwork and lots of luck. I wish to continue that trend.

Kingmaker Table 1

"Totally fine, not to worry."

If you'd like to let me know what you're character's going to be doing until the guard gets there--it'll be a few days--there may be something in it for your characters!

Male Shabti Unchained Summoner (Soulbound)

His voice comes from the shadow, as if whispered by conscience itself.

My morale compass will keep dictating my actions, not a person making decisions. This isn't to say I'm not willing to work on a team - but simply that I don't compromise my values just because I'm ordered to.

Annurian approaches Andreas. His look isn't threatening; in fact, the skinwalker is fairly scary by itself, but he seems so calm and shy most of the time that his natural "aura of good" outshines his monstrous presence.

You're balanced, Andreas, and I see the weight and need to take responsibility transpiring on your words. You saw me fight by your side, and will see again. - he had washed his hands, but the memory of his claws dipping blood should still be quite fresh - I will help the feline with the repairs.

GM: For these side quests, can we go in smaller groups? Maybe assume the others stay at the fort, a group of three goes, it comes back then the other three go? I don't know, just throwing ideas there

Fenn replies to Gird, "..well Ah reckon any man in tha' right circumstances givin' enough desperation and no seemingly better choices could become a murderer... Ah jus' kilt mah first man today... not something Ah woke up this morning thinkin' Ah'd be doin'..but there it is. Still kinda... wrappin' mah head around tha'... jus' makes meh feel sad is all..."

His pretty emerald eyes take on a somber expression briefly...

"Mah point is.. these bandits are so wounded the moment they make any violent move.. their likely ta' start bleedin' again and fall unconscious anyways... with out a healer it will take days fur them to heal enough to be any threat ta' anyone!"

Regarding Svetlana, Fenn grimaces, "Darn... was hoping yur general store had a god selection of specialized gear... guess Ah'll have ta' make a trip back ta' Restov fur some of it... like healer's kits an such.. no problem.. had ta' ask at least."

When Andreas speaks up Fenn listens but cocks a head regarding Annurian's comments... then shrugs, "Ah'm kinda in the same mind as Annur' here.. a man has ta' follow his own morale compass... Ah also don't mind playing with a team effort.. but not sure as we need someone perse in charge.. we are all mostly responsible adults, meh being on the young side o' it. A man's got a right ta' his opinion... jus' so long as he respects tha' other folks got a right to theirs jus' as well, but he also has ta' follow what his heart tells him is the righteous path. Ah think in general we all agree on tha' goal of fightin' tha' good fight and protecting folks from harm.. as long as we keep tha' in mind I think we should all do jus' fine!"

"Though, aren't we forgetting somethin'? Tha' bandit camp.. if we wait fur them soldiers ta' arrive.. they are likely ta' have cleared out! Those injured three aren't going anywhere in the next 12 hours.. we can make fur tha' camp and take down this Kressel bandit gal.. fur good we got surprise on er'! If we wait we'll loose it!"

Fenn, grouses but concedes the point, "...true, Ah can follow tha' track their horses made with no problem.. but tha' won't tell me how far away or when they were due back... too true... but we can't wait too long ta' get after them or tha' element o' surprise will be lost! Kingmaker Table 1

I don't recommend leaving the Levetons outnumbered, and when you go exploring you need to be in a group, but otherwise yeah, feel free to split up.

Downtime:

Annurian: repairs, +1 to Engineering
Gird: hunting, +1 to survival

K (Geog) DC10:

Looking at the map you can tell the camp is about a day's hike as the bird flies if you hustle (20 hours at 30 ft, no exploration), you might be able to shave off a few hours by going through the plains (15 hours total), and a few more at full gallop on horseback (9 hours).

Male HP:13/13 AC:19 T:12 FF:17 F:+4 R:+2 W:+1 Perc:+2 Init:2 Bastard Sword +3, 1d10+2 CMB:+3 CMD:+15 Human Cavalier 2

Fenn, you and Annurian have some good points. I have not and will never ask anyone to do something that they feel is morally wrong. I am asking that when we discuss our options that we do not get bogged down in hours of debating our own views. This is why we need a person in charge, to take everyone's views and opinions...and make the decision that is best for us all. Everyone has a say in what we do just like the planning of the ambush, no one was left out. We need some form of structure...controlled chaos if you will.

He takes his time and looks at each of his companions.
Look, what we do now and from this point forward will be our influence on this land. The more we reclaim the more our actions will be view by others as their own moral compass. We are the light that those people will look to for hope and guidance. We need to be here for them, to protect them.

As the group discusses the times need to get to the bandit camp.
Happs, when are you expect to be back in your own camp...?
