Marius was careful to give a calm and friendly reaction. It would be absurd to agree right away to such a dangerous request, and if he gives his word on killing the Voice it would mean he would have to honor it. For now, he was more worried about his escort, they didn't show up at all when his rival rushed into the cave, they may not even live by now. Once he leaves he will have to contact the cleric he heard about, that one can be useful in so many ways.

I walk around the location, looking for them, or a hint at whom got them (either the tiefling or that rival as I suspect).
I go to the wagons, and ask them to pick the most skilled tracker from themselves and look for them with me together, meanwhile I ask them to prepare for immediate leaving once they unloaded the wagons but do so without being obvious about it.
Sir Seamus of Klanach |
“Council Member and The Speaker, thank you for receiving me so quickly.
I must inform you that I will be withdrawing my father’s petition for the crown along side the duchy’s support to the crown. It is only too obvious that the machinations set in motion by the council through the competitive action of my self and my pears can only act to divide our already weak nation. Plots and machinations even target the council!
My family harbors no ill will against the kingdom, we only wish to judge and evaluate the new ruler for ourselves before supporting him or her.
Speaker you mentioned not to worry “about such things”, but I beg to differ, please be open about your role is in what is happening and I may change my mind. ”
Marius Corvinus Gabela |
After a long time of not finding any trace of the guards, Marius decides it is the only way to act dictated by common sense to disappear in the preparations for the party. He orders the ones who came with the food to hand a different horse and a disguise of a normal mercenary over to him, and once he is gone claim as cause for missing from the festivity an urgent matter that came up.
Stopped waiting for reply upon the search of the missing guards.
With his private meeting earlier interrupted, and with his guards not even being alive most likely, he didn't feel safe at the camp of the tiefling.
Marius went back to his own camp, and gathered his commanders for a meeting, he was very interested in the recent events, and how his orders were carried out, plus Marius was also very interested in what information was gathered since he requested an investigation into some people.

Seamus observes the reaction to the announcement.
Sense Motive 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
"Be transparent about what is transpiring and I will reconsider. There can be no benefit to pitting heirs against one another in this time of turmoil..., well being of the realm is not a game."
"My family can still offer assistance to the realm, but it will not precipitate it into civil war. The words shared here can remain private until a new heir is selected.

"No, you have no clue of what is going on, this tournament is vital for the kingdom's survival, more importantly there will be a fine for leaving the race"
Sir Seamus of Klanach |
“The Speaker. Very well, if machinations, under dealings, deceit, are the way of the Council, then who would I be to contradict you. Please name your fine and I will judge whether to address the fine or reenter this sham of a competition." said full of rage. Seamus feels a very odd fire burning inside of him as he angers. He then breaths deeply to continue.
"Abalon, my grandfather’s support to the faith is well known, please let me know if you require support in his memory."
"Timtinio de la Garra, research is vital to the advancement of the realm, through my travels, I have made some connections with some adventures who have come across some rare reagents, perhaps some you have been looking for."
"Grot and Umillo, I would value your military concill in time, particularity given in the increase in orcish military activity in the region."
"Lady Lamboux, the realm mourns the loss of your son” said with no sincerity. “Please le me know if there is anything we can do in his memory in these time of benefaction.” said with calculated honesty.
