init for Luthor and save for skeleton against grease spell
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 for Luthor initiative
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 for skeleton grease save

Keith S. |

Paewyn casts grease on the skeleton's weapon, and it promptly drops out of his hands. The skeleton turns and darts into an alcove.
Rodgar roars and chases after it. He finds it in an alcove, longsword in hand and shield on its arm.
I moved you up as best I understood your intentions. I assume Az'Avis is off map south of Luthor.
Rodgar has used a move action, he can make an attack action.
Everyone else also used a move action, except Paewyn who moved and cast a spell.
Party takes the rest of their actions now (except Paewyn who went first)
skeleton's armor class is 21.

![]() |

Avis moves up and puts away his sword and shield. He then starts looking where he left his sling .. oh, there!
Put away my stuff, move to the square above Luthor.
Yes, that would be about right. I'm far off in the back, being support.

![]() |

Oh okay then. I've already used my move action, so I guess I'll just swing away.
war axe attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 111d10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
The dwarf swing, though powerful, goes wide and misses the skeleton entirely.
With an AC of 21, this thing is going to be a pain to hit.

![]() |

my current tactic is to make another attack on my next turn, then 5ft step to the right. Thus allow more people into combat and take advantage of hard cover (although obviously ol' boney will also get the same bonus. Ah well)

Marchello Aria |

To the extent that he can, Marchello will slip past Rogdar and get himself into attacking position, even if he has to be in the alcove opposite the skeleton, allowing him to come out of his alcove so that the three of them can get attacks in.

Keith S. |

I moved people in initiative order. Luthor beats Marchello to the southern alcove. I think everyone else is close to where they wanted to be.
Skeleton gets an attack of opportunity as Luthor runs by.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 to hit
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for damage if successful 'to hit' (which I believe it is)
It is now Paewyn's turn, then the skeleton, then the rest of the party

![]() |

With the rush of people in front of her, and the undead having stepped back into one of the alcoves, Paewyn can no longer see a target. Therefore she will remain where she is and ready an action - cast Acid splash at the undead if it reappears in her line of sight.

Keith S. |

Sword flashing, the skeleton attacks Rogdar!
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 to hit
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 if it hits ac20
(and I must apologize about character names - I think I have misspelled everyone's name at least once if not more. I find I spell Rogdar wrong more than most)

![]() |

Avis loads his sling, but knows that he'd need to be damn lucky to hit the skeleton. And right now, he wasn't feeling that lucky.
Move action to load the sling, but I can't fire nor get into a position from which I can fire at the skeleton. I'll have to wait till either more room opens up or something else happens.

![]() |

(Umm... Rogdar's AC is 20, but note that skeleton only got a 16 to hit.)
Rogdar hefts his waraxe for another strike:
Waraxe attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 191d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Just missing the undead, Rogdar swears under his breath and steps to the right. "If ya got holy water, ya might want ta use it. This thing ain't goin' down easy!"
5ft step to the right. Rogdar now has hard cover (+4 AC).
Guys, don't forget we were given vials of holy water when we came down here.

Keith S. |

@ Rogdar - that is how a play by post works. You roll the to hit and the damage at the same time, if it doesn't hit you don't take the damage.

![]() |

@Keith S. - Oh, I see. Well, what I usually do is press 'Preview' after I put in the dice rolls. Then I add details depending on the dice results. Only then do I hit the 'Submit Post' button.

Marchello Aria |

I think there is now room to do the following ...
Seeing an opening, Marchello dodges past his comrade into an open spot in front of the skeleton, he brings his mace down upon its bones in a viscous sweeping arc from overhead.
Attack w. Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 2 = 5
But he is way overzealous and nearly trips over himself in the process.

Keith S. |

Again, the skeleton laughs at the party; then slashes out at Marchello
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24 to it
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 damage if successful
I believe Marchello is down on the ground now, at -2 hp
The part may go now.

DM if possible I would like to cast burning hands in the skeletons square.
With a bright flash erupting from her halo, and an snake of fire that courses through her body and erupts from her fingertips the area that the skeleton is in is consumed by a diving flame.
burning hands DC 14: 3d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 3) = 9

Keith S. |

I think that you can poke a hand around to shoot off burning hands at the skeleton while missing Marchello.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13 for skeleton save
The skeleton roars in anger as he is badly burned by the magical flames!
But he is still moving (un-alive, as it were)

Keith S. |

D is Delphinia, R is Rogdar. So I am not sure I understand Az'Avis' plan...

![]() |

Phew, you were confusing me for a second there Avis.
Damn. My initial plan was for the space in front of the skeleton (where Marchello now lies) would be empty, thus we could blast the undead out with ranged attacks. thus forcing it out into the open... where we could flank it.
The dwarf shakes his head as Marchello hits the ground, but gives a slight nod to Delphinia. Magic seemed to be effective.
Deciding to chance his strategy, Rogdar throws his waraxe to the ground. It had never failed him before, but it was time to adapt.
Drawing a flask of holy water with his free hand, he hurled it at the undead.
Ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 52d4 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5*
With that done, Rogdar stoically moves in front of the undead, standing guard over Marchello's unconscious form. He draws his secondary weapon, his warhammer.
*Undead does not get an AoO since Rogdar has cover. Total miss anyway, but undead still takes 1 point of splash damage.

![]() |

I'm not sure how Paewyn can get a line-of-sight to the skeleton to make an attack. These small rooms are not ideal for a ranged spellcaster... Rogdar's plan would've been best from the sorceress' point of view, but no plan survives first contact with the enemy.
Trying to get into a position from where she can actually see the opponent, Paewyn will move up into the alcove directly opposite Az'Avis, hoping that from there she can cast spells...
If she can see the undead from that position...
Acid splash, ranged touch attack, into melee: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Acid splash + Havoc + Focus: 1d3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

Keith S. |

Just so I am clear, no one is moving into the square where Marchello lies?
So the skeleton can just take a 5 foot step up and hack on either Delphinia or Luthor?
I do not believe Paewyn can see past two hard corners to attack the skeleton.

Keith S. |

Rodgar flings holy water at the skeleton, who flinches at the splash as if the holy water burns it. The dwarf then steps in front of the skeleton, protecting the wounded, unconscious and bleeding Marchello.
Az'Avis and Paewyn maneuver about, trying to get an angle on the thing.
Someone give me an action for Luthor. He made a comment in the discussion column, but not in the gameplay column.

Keith S. |

And Marchello can make a roll to stabilize on his own.
DC10 constitution check minus how many points you are below zero.

Keith S. |

skeleton save vs. positive energy
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The skeleton lets out a grunt and swings away at Rodgar, iron broadsword glinting in the light!
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 to hit
1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 damage if hit is successful
Party may go.

![]() |

Rogdar deftly raises his shield as the skeleton's sword comes down, blocking the blow. With a grin he returns the compliment, striking with his warhammer.
Warhammer Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
The attack misses also, deflecting off the undead's shield.
Yeah... Don't expect me to take this thing down. I need to roll a 17+ to hit at all, I'm just here to hold the line.
Keep smiting the thing with channel energy and spells.

![]() |

Keep smiting the thing with channel energy and spells.
I'd love to be able to help with spells, but Paewyn can't get a LOS to the skeleton without moving through multiple threatened squares, which for a first level sorcerer is sheer madness, even with Mage armor active. Frankly I don't know what to do to help; if you have any suggestions, please tell me...

![]() |

Hmm... I see your point Paewyn. Even if you did have LoS, the penalties to hit would be through the roof.
Nope, guess Luthor and Delphinia will have to do the damage here. Luckily, the undead has already taken (I think) 14 dmg. Surely it can't be too far from dropping... I hope

![]() |

The only other choice I have to offer is that I intentionally provoke an AoO. Then you guys could rush past to get into a better position. This is possible (especially if I fight defensively) but risky. After all, the undead might have combat reflexes.
We'll see what happens net turn... Just waiting for Luthor and Delphinia to post now.

![]() |

Sorry didn't realize that I was the hold up.
A flare erupts in Delphina's eyes, as the light from the halo sends forth the gout of flame from her finger tips once more.
Cast burning hands again
3d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 4) = 7

Keith S. |

The skeleton shrugs off Luthor's holy energy, although he does stagger a bit as it hurts him a little.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 will save
But Delphinia's arcane blast finishes him off, and he collapses to the floor in a charred heap of old bones.
It would help me out if you posted the save DC and type (reflex, fort, will, etc, with each spell.
Luthor got him down to 1 hp, then the burning hands did him in.
You are now in a small room with alcoves; each alcove has niches filled with old bones.

![]() |

Rogdar puts away his warhammer, giving the charred skeleton a healthy kick with his boot for good measure.
"Yer worthless heap o' bones!" he snarls angrily.
Catching his breath, the dwarf checks the bones for items of value. "Oh, an' if one of ya wants ta take care of Marchello 'ere, I'm sure he'll appreciate it when 'e wakes up." He calls out without turning around.

Keith S. |

Assume Luthor heals up Marchello (I believe Luthor is travelling for vacation at the moment).
What next?

![]() |

Okay... but what did the undead have for loot?
"Huh. Might as well keep headin' that way." Rogdar grunts, indicating the direction to the east.
Not sure if the passage ends at a door or a dead end. If the latter, check for secret doors.
