Luthor does 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 damage.
The thing falls to the ground, skidding along the flagstones and coming to a rest near the north end of the room.
Combat is done.

It looks like a magical construct of some sort.
You also have the loose rune in the west wall you found just before this thing attacked you.
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
Putting away his waraxe, Rogdar draws a dagger and cuts off charred portions of his singed beard. Muttering several dwarven curses, he saunters over to the loose gap in the western wall, he checks for anything of value.
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
Rogdar pauses after hearing the druid's words, then nods in understanding and allows Paewyn and Delphinia to take over the task.
"Aye! Barely even burned. Shame it weren't much o' a fight, but pleny more beasties 'round 'er no doubt. He replies with a hearty grin.
| Keith S. |
The rune in the wall is not magical. It just fits into a recesses pattern very well, and is the only other loose stone (rune) you have seen.
Paewyn Temari
|
"There must be a reason that this particular rune can be removed. What do you think, Delphinia, since you've just taken such a close look at the thing? Should we take it with us in case it proves to be of some use elsewhere in the ossuary?" Paewyn makes her own assessment of the object as she peers over the aasimar's shoulder at the rune.
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
| Keith S. |
No,the wall slot is just a negative image, if you will, of the rune to hold it.
Az'Avis
|
"Best keep it. Who knows what it will be good for. Now, do we want to .. search through the room? Or let it be, taking this rune as our prize?"
Let us go north to number 19 on the map?
Map of what we know so far
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
Putting the strange item into his backpack, Rogdar grunts in agreement with Az'Avis.
"Aye, we 'aven't 'ad a good look about yet."
He begins checking the room for anything else of interest.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
To be fair, we haven't actually searched the room yet. But maybe someone else should do it rather than Rogdar. For some reason the dice roller likes to give me 5's.
| Keith S. |
Nothing is found by any searching in this room.
To move things along a bit, the door by 19 leads to steps that lead down, down, down (and out of this adventure, so don't go that way!).
The door in the long hall opposite of 19 is a possibility, so is the door in 15. The two doors in the corridor between where you are now and 15 essentially lead nowhere (14a and b). I added those rooms to the map. Those rooms have some interesting development for a long term campaign, but won't mean anything in a PFS format.
You have not yet found a reason as to why freshly entombed bodies are disappearing from the Ossuary.
| Keith S. |
I will help - the tunnel at 7 will lead to the cliff face (the city you are under is built on a plateau or escarpment, and this tunnel leads to the cliff face, with no way up or down short of flying or jumping).
Paewyn Temari
|
I agree with Az'Avis that we should go check the door opposite area 19, since the GM has kindly ruled out the tunnel at area 7 to save time.
Paewyn cautiously starts heading down the corridor towards the door at the far end, her ioun torch illuminating the path as it whirls around above her head. "Are you coming friends? The answer to this mystery is still somewhere ahead of us."
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
Rogdar grunts in agreement, gladly leading the group to the next location.
Go to the door opposite area 19.
The dwarf listens at the door, and (assuming there's nothing to hear) opens it.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
| Keith S. |
The door opens like most in this place; hinges stiff with age groan in protest but the door is not locked.
It is a 40 foot diameter circular room. The middle of the room is taken up by a 30 foot diameter pit, its bottom lost in darkness. The ceiling arches 20 feet above the pit, which is encircled by a narrow 5 foot wide walkway. No rails or ledge guard the edge of the pit. You can see a door roughly opposite the one you entered.
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
"Not sure I be likin' this place. How 'bout we go around it instead? We can always be comin' back round."
Yeah, don't like the looks of this place either. What about the door in room 15 instead?
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
"s'pose. But it'll 'ave to be someone light." Rogdar responds, scratching his chin.
Realisation slowly dawning on him, he glances at Delphinia and Paewyn, now grinning at each of the spellcasters.
"So... flip a coin or fight to the death?" he mutters with a wink.
Paewyn Temari
|
"Hmm... too much backtracking and we'll never finish exploring this place, although I agree with the sentiment. If no-one else is willing, I'll risk going out there with a rope, although I'm no kind of acrobat. At the very least, my mage armor should provide a little bit of protection." Paewyn looks a little perturbed by the idea of walking alongside the pit, especially when she has no idea what horrors may pop out of it. <But damn it! I'm getting impatient to be done with this place. The sooner we find out what's been causing the remains of those interred in the Ossuary to disappear, the sooner I can get out of this horrid dungeon.>
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
A snake would have the best chance of this, although (obviously) it won't be able to tell us much about the other side. :)
Still, provided it can be told what to do, it sounds fine to me.
Paewyn Temari
|
I think there's more risk of something attacking out of the pit than triggering a trap - famous last words, perhaps?
"I'm sure Tongi could do it. So could my Puck for that matter." Paewyn's weasel familiar pokes his head out of Paewyn's satchel at hearing his name called, then just as quickly ducks back in. "However I think that I should do it. After all, I'm the one who suggested that it looked dangerous out there, so I can hardly expect someone else to do it. Tie the rope around me and hang on..." As soon as the rope is securely tied around her, Paewyn ventures out onto the walkway and starts making her way around to the door on the other side, very cautiously...
Az'Avis
|
"May deh spirits watch over you."
Cast: guidance. The creature gets a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. It must choose to use the bonus before making the roll to which it applies. Lasts 1 minute.
| Keith S. |
Paewyn makes it across the room without issue. In fact, she becomes much more relaxed after a few steps. Sure, it is a bottomless pit undoubtedly filled with horrors - but it is also a 5 foot wide walkway.
She stands in front of the door.
Now what?
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
"An' don't get yerself killed." Rogdar adds.
The dwarf takes the other end of the rope, tying it around his arm. Carefully and methodically he gives more slack to Paewyn as she makes her way.
Paewyn Temari
|
Once she's accross to the other side, Paewyn relaxes and looks for somewhere to tie off the rope so that the others can use it as a handline, if only for an extra sense of security as they walk around the pit. "Alright, alright... looks like I was scared of nothing after all. Come on across folks!" When she has secured her end of the rope, Paewyn turns her attention to the door in front of her, inspecting it and listening for anything on the other side.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
Provided Paewyn has managed to secure the rope, Rogdar makes his way across the ledge (he drops the end of the rope, but still keeps one hand on the trail as he walks... just in case).
| Keith S. |
Paewyn ties the rope to a torch holder and Rodgar easily makes his way across.
Paewyn Temari
|
Calling back to across the pit to Az'Avis, trying to project her voice without shouting so loud as to wake the dead, Paewyn replies to the druid. "I think I'll wait for one or two of you to get over here before I open the door. Call me paranoid, but I like having some capable warriors between me and the undead when I'm trying to throw spells at them, and that's what is most likely to be behind this door!" Once Rodgar is at the door, she'll move aside to let the burly dwarf take point.
Did Paewyn's perception roll above detect anything about the door or hear any noise emanating from beyond it?
| Keith S. |
Rodgar sees a 10 foot wide passage stretching straight away from him.
2 rounds are now complete since Paewyn came across.
Rogdar Stoneshield
|
"Still don't trust this place. I'll cover the corridor 'ere." Rogdar mutters and enters the corridor.
Call me paranoid but I don't like the circular room one bit. So Rogdar will move 5ft into the corridor to keep an eye on things on the other side. It looks safe enough though."
