He looks uncomfortable, "I... I don't know. Mom was a white martian, not green. Maybe it's different?"

He shakes his head of the thought, "Phantom zone... I think I remember something about that. Uh... Hold on, maybe I can find something like that. If there was one here it would be... In this direction..."

Trailing off, he concentrates on isolatibg his kryptonian genetics, granting him his X-ray vision which he uses to search for a projector.

Imagine keeps herself busy intensely supervising as the LexSec struggle and grunt in effort to keep the martian securely immobilized.

'Ooooo! Phantom zone! I hear'a that once! Yeah! Let's totes do that!'

Kara has no idea what it does, but it has the coolest name of any other suggestions thus far.

Unhuman scans the station, locating Kal-El's quarters and a strange but deceptively simple projector locked in a metal case. It is simple and almost silly looking, like something a child might use to shine stars on a wall. But William recognizes it as a portable Phantom Zone Projector. The Phantom Zone, of course, is the highest form of punishment on Krypton. The idea of using such a severe punishment from one side of his heritage on the other side causes a near panic attack in William. William places his hand on a hand shaped panel on the box. The lid slides to the side, and a small hologram of Superman appears.

"William, I know that you would not seek the power of the Phantom Zone except in dire circumstances. Understand that whatever threat you exile to the Zone is not destroyed, but simply put off for another day. The Zone is largely timeless, so while you are buying time for yourself, you are only delaying the inevitable."

Inactive

"I know, Grandpa... We will find a way to bring him back, I promise. God... I hope he dosn't kill me..." He takes a deep shuddering breath, then takes the projector and rushes back to the others. He hesitates to use the device, telling the Burned Martian that he was sorry, before using it to trap him away.

"It's... it's done. For now. He won't be held in there forever, but it should buy us some valuable time."

"Sorry to interrupt your emotional musings, Unhuman, but I have retrieved the information regarding Project Deep Wells. Thirty years ago, in the early days of the Justice League, the original team encountered an invasion of White Martians. These Martians initally appeared to be a team of superpowered humans, though they included one alien of unknown origin who also turned out to be a White Martian. They operated as a team of heroes known as the Hyperclan, and they established themselves as a rival of the Justice League. Their goal was to discredit the Justice League heroes and replace them as the greatest heroes of Earth. Then, with the Justice League disbanded and defeated, they would proceed to conquer the Earth. This was at a time when the Justice Society heroes had mostly retired, and the Justice League founders were the most powerful heroes on Earth. The Hyperclan was able to deceive and entrap all of the JL save Batman, trapping Superman in the Phantom Zone. Batman was able to use his understanding of Martian weaknesses and physiology to defeat them. Without a way to imprison these powerful beings, the members of the Justice League decided to hide them on Earth. Using J'onn's mental powers in ways that he was loathe to do, the Martians were programmed to believe that they were humans and to live normal lives among humanity. There identities are unknown even to the Watchtower computers. I believe that the identities may be located on the computer in the Batcave. If The Burning has been able to awaken these sleeping Martians, we could be in a lot of trouble...."

Kara stares open-mouthed at the talking computer-victor. As the speech ends, she maintains her gawking vigil for some minutes.

Then some minutes more.

Then a few minutes more pass.

'And THAT, chummers, is why we f~%@ing kill people when NO JAIL ON THE WHOLE DAMN PLANET will hold them! Oh my holy butt sechx, guys, WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT??? People "almost" come close to "taking" over the "Earth" and they KEPT them here??

Okay, yeah, lets go to teh Cave de la Bats an' see what's what. Daddy's been t0tes _dying_ to go in there for, like, ever, but something always came up, or it wasn't a good time, or something more important happened, or he was "afraid" that the "Batman" might "find" "out" and that "would" "not" be "good" or whateves lame stuff like that.

But now seems perf.

Let's all port back. We can take my chopper.

Whooooooo wants mojitos? ;-)'

The wetbar aboard Kara's private chopper was legendary.

Az is curious about these "mojitos."

Perhaps Ms. Imagine is correct, he says, donning the helmet of Nabu once again. Let us return to Earth, now that we've recaptured The Burning, and seek out this "Bat Cave" to identify potential future threats.

Inactive

"I... think i heard J'ohn mention that before, but it's been some time. If Batman can at all help us locate them, then we might as well try."

I'm assuming that our predecessors never told us about Batman's relation to Wayne enterprises?

I think instead of answering the Bat-Question, I'll let this play out. I'm pretty sure Imagine knows about the Batman/Bruce Wayne connection, and she certainly knows that Director Grayson was once Robin and Nightwing. All of the heroes probably know about Batman and believe in his existence. But they probably don't know much about him. You can really know or think whatever you want based on the animated series.
Fate almost certainly knows, but what Az knows is up for debate. Same with Gigabyte and Unhuman.

Assume that you can easily take the League teleporters back to Earth and take Kara's chopper to Gotham. What happens from there?

Duh. Mojitos!

Once aboard the LexCorp Chinook-class helicopter, comfortable seating is found for everyone, and Kara personally makes everyone a world-famous mojito. The drink itself is nothing special, save that it's made from ridiculously fine ingredients, making all other mojitos taste like they were made from dirty bathwater.
But the really special thing is watching her make them. It turns out having a world-class telekinietic as your bartender is not something that happens to everyone.

'Alrighty, me hearties. We're airborne and we have a place to go. Y'all wanna just smash the place up for a bit or do we wanna do anything special? Maybe some naughty graffiti?'

I will say that it goes without saying that one does not simply...walk into the Batcave.

Inactive

William being underaged and knowing how much his mother would disapprove if she was still around, Declines the drink. The he declines it again when Imagine tried a second time. Then he had to pretend to drink it despite tossing it's contents into a nearby plant when she forced it upon him a third time. He's pretty sure she saw him do that, but he's trying his best to ignore any accusational looks.

"I would... Really consider that an awful and terrible idea... Let's try to avoid pissing off the Bat family?"

Despite the voice inside his head, literally, telling Az it's a bad idea, the young man cannot help but to remove his helmet and sample the mojito, his first experience with alcohol.

One does not need a Sense Motive check to tell that he's impressed; Az has a very weak poker face.

I don't understand the big deal. I was under the impression this 'Bat-Man' was just a normal human.

Az displays his ignorance of the world twice in one post.

'Meh,' Imagine responds to Unhuman's words of warning, but at least happy that she finally got to introduce him to the wonderful world of mojitos. 'Fate's right. The whole 'Bat' line is un-powered. Bat-man, Bat-girl, Bat-um, dog? Bat-robin, Bat-bird, Bat-aardvark--the whole line doesn't have a wit of true power in 'em. My theory? Good marketing. They build up a reputation of superawesomeness, then they just show up, and everyone all but punches themselves in the face!

But, whatevs. That "man" hisself ain't been seen in sometime. Most like moved to florida and got some sun. You all can come up with a plan that involves 47 different words for "sneak". As for me?"

As one the ten LexSec powered-armored guards lock'n'load their WarHammer assault rifles.

'I tend to shoot things with guns and see how that works.

You got a better plan?'

Another mojito seems to pour itself and float over to Kara's waiting hand.

If the cave has no mystical defenses, I may be able to just teleport us in, once we have the location. Az says as he sips mojito #2.

William frowned in Az's direction, he could easily tell the man was about his own age. 'Honestly, Kara...'

He signed, and shook his head. They can make their own choices. "I was thinking, maybe we could just... Try to get in contact with the man and ask for his help? He hasn't been with the league for years, no, but he was once. He'll recognize the stakes here, want to help."

You see, I grew up here in Gotham and everyone on the other side of the Law learned to fear Batsy..."

Kyle scratches his chin as he thinks about their conundrum "I have some connections in Wayne Tech, they paid my scholarship and I've teamed with them for a couple projects since. Perhaps I can try to incognito my way there, try to get info or contact Mister Wayne. I think he'll understand, given the whole V aliens but this time they have godlike powers."

William shrugs uncertainly, "IF you feel it'll get u in with little fuss I guess..."

Your JL communicators all buzz simultaneously and Director Grayson's dulcet voice rolls into the chopper as if her were present.

"Good Afternoon, League. Vic filled me in on the situation. I wish I could say it is unbelievable that the founders kept a secret like this, but that is exactly the sort of crap Batman would pull. One time Prometheus almost took down the entire League after he stole Batman's secret plans for how to defeat each of them... Vic also says that he thinks the ID's of the Martians are stored only in the Cave. I see that you are in Gotham. Are you planning to break into the Bat Cave?"

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male A.K.A. Kyle Knight

Kyle facepalms as his plan fails before even starting "Howdy, Director. I was trying to avoid breaking in the brute way, but Vic's rarely wrong... Any chance we could ask Batsy politely to invite us in for a tea and some information gathering?"

"Umm, Batman is a little indisposed at the moment. In the sense that no one has seen him for about 5 years. I know, I know, you've seen stories on the news about him and there are sightings and he is still kicking butt and defending Gotham. That is all a sort of smokescreen. A combination of substitutes and marketing. I haven't even been in The Cave for 4 years. I mean, I've been in one of the caves, but not The Cave."

Inactive

William sighs, "So we don't have much choice then. On a scale of mugger to joker, how much is he going to beat us up if he's home and we come in uninvited?"

"In the words of that guy from the Simpsons, 'Breakin into the Batcave...That's a beatin.' He doesn't know any of you from Black Adam. If he's sitting in there brooding, and you interrupt it with Ms. Luthor's trademark bravado, you should expect significant resistance. For purely automated systems, you should expect it to detect your Kryptonian DNA and attack you with synthetic Kryptonite. Assume that Batman knows everything about you, and will use your weaknesses and strengths against you. The Martians you guys are looking for? They beat the entire League. Wally West, Diana, Superman, J'onn, a Green Lantern, the whole gang. The Hypercorps beat them down. And Batman beat the Hypercorps with a match and his fists. Well, and his belt, I guess."

Inactive

"Wonderful," he groans, rubbing his face. "At least we'll know what we're in for, Batman certainly will. Hey, Vic, what's the status on the first responders from the attack? Are they alright?"

He didn't voice it, but his cousin Supergirl was at the top of his list of worries.

"Supergirl is on the mend. We're going to keep her in an induced coma for a few more days. Knightingale, well, that is going to be a longer process. The other two are going to take some time, as well."

He smiled, relaxing. "That's- that's great. Aesome, really. At least they're going to be alright... Can you make sure my dad vet's informed about her status if we don't get back in time?"

We've been stalled for a week, and I'm finally getting my life back from being a teacher at the end of the year, so I'm going to take some liberties to get us moving.

Imagine's helicopters ferry everyone through Neo-Gotham into the suburbs. The city has, by now, grown to the point where it mostly encompasses the wilderness around Wayne Manor, not that all of you know that that is where you are going. Of course, Dr. Fate has been to Gotham many times, and Fate has even been to the Batcave, even though his current partner has not. Fate weaves his spell of transportation and the world seems to bend around you. As the helicopter vanishes, you find yourselves in an underground lair. No, you find yourselves in The underground lair. The ceiling soars above you. You stand next to what you think is the Batmobile, but then you realize that there are Batmobiles stretching into the distance. Cars, tanks, planes, helicopters of every kind, all Bat themed.

Fate speaks into Az's head, "I have neutralized the magical defenses that surround the Batcave. It seems that The Batman has shrouded his domecile in protections both from Zatanna and of course those that we created, but they were easy enough to dismantle. You will be safe as long as you are here."

The cave stretches around you, with all of the typical accouterments. Robot Dinosaur, Giant penny, glass cases with the costumes of the fallen, big screen Bat Computer, etc.

"Whoa."

Imagine allows herself to rubberneck for a moment, but the LexSec take no such luxuries. While the girl wonders just -why- someone would make a penny that large, the ten power-armored men fan out in a tactical walk, rifles leading the way. They try to at least establish a safe zone around their current position, with a list of possible avenues of expansion.

Their in-built cameras all record silently.

Please read this in Kevin Conroy's Batman voice.

"I don't know who you are, or why you thought this was a good idea, but it's time to find out how wrong you are."

Nullify Technology (selective: not bat-tech) Effect: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30

Make an opposed power check vs the nullify technology for any technology to function. If failed, tech is affected by a combination of EMP and nanobots that prevent any technology from functioning that fails to overcome the nullify effect.

BTW, ever since reading Grant Morrison's run on JLA, I've thought that the real Batman superpower, the thing I've never seen in a build of Batman, is Nullify. What Morrison's Batman did that made him so powerful is that he was always able to tear down people's super powers.
