Male Human Cleric 10

"Melinda? Your show."

Alaric stands by Hrunndalf, in a non-aggressive, but defensive posture: shield up, weapon down.

Liothonae:
You may roll if you like, but you will be unable to identify the tracks either; in addition to Survival, it requires a knowledge skill neither you nor Myriana have.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

Hearing the frightened goblins, but not understanding a word, Hrunndalf raises his voice in what he hopes to be an authoritative but well-meaning manner. "Goblins! We have come to talk peacefully. Do not attack us, and we shall not harm you."

Let's hope at least one of them has bothered to learn the common tongue...

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Human Ranger

If Myri hears this before coming ‘around the corner’ she stays behind the wall and waits for an 'understandable' goblins response.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kalimac readies his lance and follows the rest of the party. He stays a little to the rear, all the better for a lance charge if necessary.

He warily scans the swamp for the return of whatever did this to the goblins.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Quick look at her companions, Aħna ma jiġu tweġġgħek. Jittrattaw magħna mingħajr vjolenza u aħna għandhom jagħmlu l-istess.

Diplomacy 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Goblin:
We haven't come to hurt you. Deal with us without violence and we shall do the same.

Quietly to the two men by her, What did this to them was our size or bigger

There is a pause after Hrunndalf and Melinda call out to the goblins. Then you hear more goblin voices raised in apparent argument:

"Il-bnedmin mejta delikata qed jippruvaw trick lilna ma tagħhom!"

"Aħna kollha ser die! Logħba fuq, il-bniedem! LOGĦBA FUQ! "

"Irridu motiv għall-ħajja tagħna!"

"Irridu Nuke-raħal kollu mill-orbita! Huwa l-uniku mod biex tkun ċert."

Goblin:
“The tricky dead humans are trying to trick us with their tricks!”

“We’re all going to die! Game over, man! GAME OVER!”

“We must plea for our lives!”

“We must nuke the entire village from orbit! It’s the only way to be sure.”

At that point, a slightly more authoritative voice interrupts the argument:

"Stenna! Peress kap tagħna lilu nnifsu fid-dar tiegħu, wieħed u waħda minna għandu jieħu l-inkarigu. I, għandhom l-ħalq wiesgħa ta 'kull wieħed minna hawn, u għalhekk naħseb li lkoll naqblu li jien l-aktar xierqa li jwasslu minfloku. "

And receives some calmer replies:

"Jagħmel sens."

"Jekk jogħġbok, mur fuq."

The louder goblin voice continues:

"Żewġ approċċi ġew proposti - negozjati, u l-attakk. Kemm minn dawn il-pjanijiet ikollhom mertu. Preparrati? Mur! "

You hear the tramp of goblin footsteps as they scramble behind the walls.

The translation of the second part of that dialogue, since it wasn't working in the first post for some reason

Goblin:
“Wait! Since our chief has barricaded himself in his house, one of us must take charge. I, Tonguewrencher the Deranged, have the widest mouth of any of us here, and therefore I think we all agree that I am most fit to lead in his stead.”

“Makes sense.”

“Please, go on.”

“Two approaches have been proposed – negotiation, and assault. Both of these plans have merit. Therefore, we shall attempt both at once. You four – you will climb up the east tower and negotiate with the dead humans. You will win if you strike a deal with them before they or we are all dead. You four – you will climb up the west tower and assault the dead humans. You will win if they or we are all dead before a deal is struck. Ready? Go!”

Human Ranger

Myri knocks an arrow, though keeps it pointed down for now. She peaks around the gate to get a sense of where the others are.
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Perception:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Message to Myriana, speaking quietly but so the men can hear, Keep your eyes out for undead, the Licktoads said something about dead humans coming back. And keep an eye on the goblins, they are planning to negotiate and attack. She says the second as if this makes perfect sense for the goblins.

Louder, to carry over the goblin scrambling, Wrencher ilsien, ġejjin u tkellimna. Għandna l-ebda bżonn li tweġġgħek, aħna biss jixtiequ jitkellmu biex Gutwad kodard qodma. Jekk inti tagħmel attakk, aħna għandna magic kbir fil-kmand tagħna.

Goblin:
Tonguewrencher the Deranged, come and speak to us. We have no need to hurt you, we just wish to speak to old cowardly Gutwad. If you do attack, we have great magic at our command.

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

In a low voice: "Mel? Are we in trouble?"

Action:
Hrunndalf readies an action to cast Shield of Faith on the slightest indication of imminent escalation.

"Oh, good," Alaric says cheerfully. "It's hard to tell, but it looked like swords that killed the ones in the pit. Swords wielded by undead. And here I was worried that the worst of the day was behind me."

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Trouble? That depends on how truthful Uncle Jal was when he said that the goblins in this area are highly resistant to low level magic like color spray.

She shrugs, If he was fibbing, I can take care of the first rush. If not, yep, trouble.

Human Ranger

Myri relays Mel's message to Lio and Kalimac. "Mel says there may be undead around. The 'toads said something about dead humans coming back. ... and it sounds like they're planning to 'negotiate and attack'."

The slightly louder goblin voice from before responds to Melinda:

“Ukoll ... Jien ser tara jekk irid biex jitkellem miegħek, imma ma naħsibx li hu ser ikunu interessati. Hu kien maqful fil-post pjuttost tajba mill-aħħar darba li inti attakkat tiegħu. Lura fil-minuta!”

Goblin:
”Well ... I’ll see if he wants to talk to you, but I don’t think he’ll be interested. He’s been locked up in his place pretty good since the last time you attacked. Back in a minute!”

Male Human (Ulfen) Oracle of Battle 10

"Trouble it is, then."

Hrunndalf touches a fist to his left shoulder guard, his breast scales, and his right shoulder guard, and rumbles in the rhythm of the ritual: "Thaukhthir shkôr, tlekopok nô!"

A Spellcraft check DC 16 reveals:
Hrunndalf casts Shield of Faith on himself.

Terran:
"Faithful steel, protect me!"

Meanwhile, as you watch, two sets of four goblins apiece emerge up on the top of the two nearest watchtowers. The watchtower roof platforms are about 15 feet off the ground.

The one slightly nearer to you (the eastern one) has a ladder running up from the ground to a door into the building itself, the door being about 5 feet off the ground. The ladder (and watchtower) are about 20 feet away from the closest party member.

The western watchtower is about 30 feet away from the closest party member. There is no ladder directly into that building, but one leads to a nearby catwalk which in turn leads to a door in the tower similar to the one on the first tower.

This is just to give you a rough idea of where things are. I will draw a map if it becomes relevant.

The four goblins on the roof of the eastern tower assemble into position. While one conducts, the others start singing to you in three-part cacophony:

”Oh, il-bnedmin mejta, hekk tal-biża fil jistgħu tiegħek,
Inti maqtula żewġ terzi minna u issa rridu li jikkurak dritt!
Jiddispjacina inti sab li aħna seraq dak kollu li Jittieħed mill inti,
Iżda aħna taw ħafna lura, hekk jgħidulna dak li aħna issa għandhom jagħmlu!”

Goblin:
“Oh, dead humans, so awesome in your might,
You killed two-thirds of us and now we want to treat you right!
We’re sorry you found out that we stole all that stuff from you,
But we gave most of it back, so tell us what we now should do!”

At the same time, the four goblins in the farther tower have all drawn odd tubes, and they are trying to light wicks which tail off of them with flint and tinder.

If you wish to take any offensive action, please roll initiative and declare. If all actions are purely defensive, we have not entered combat rounds yet.

Male Human Cleric 10

"Those goblins in the watchtowers are going to cut us to pieces if we let them. Of course, the upside is we know where the fireworks are."

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Sounding very frustrated, Aħna MHUMIEX l-bnedmin istess li inti attakkati. Aħna rridu li dawn iweġġgħu bnedmin. Allura jitkellem magħna.

Goblin:
We are NOT the same humans who attacked you. We want to hurt those humans. So talk to us.

GM:
I can see that being taken either way. And my Diplomacy and Intimidate are the same: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

The goblin who was conducting on the Eastern watchtower breaks off for a second, looking dubious.

”Inti żgur?” she asks. “Għaliex jekk inti ma jkunux l-bnedmin mejta li kkawżat terrur bħal dawn u biża fil-qlub tagħna, għandi l-ebda idea għaliex irridu jkunu up hawn tipprova tinnegozja miegħek. Ma jagħmilx sens! Aħna sempliċiment kollha tkun qed tipprova joqtol lilek, minflok biss nofs ta 'magħna. Hekk jien mhux ċert I nemmnu li inti, iżda biss fil-każ inti fuqi, jien se nistaqsik mistoqsija: Inti xi ħaġa ħażina li m'huwiex tajjeb għandna nkunu tinnegozja ma ', jew sempliċiment bniedem għandna nippruvaw biex joqtlu?”

Goblin:
”Are you sure? Because if you are not the dead humans who inflicted such terror and dread in our hearts, I have no idea why we would be up here trying to negotiate with you. It makes no sense! We would simply all be trying to kill you, instead of just half of us. So I’m not sure I believe you, but just in case you are playing a trick on me, I will ask you a cunning question: Are you a foul undead thing we should be negotiating with, or just a filthy human we should try to kill?”

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Ummm, do you think we can pass for undead... probably not. she says quietly.

Loudly, with confidence and a sneer, Aħna bnedmin, iżda aħna huma ferm aktar qawwija milli l-undead Meer li jinqatlu ħafna minnkom. Attakk magħna u inti kollha se jmutu. Jitkellmu u ħafna minnkom tista 'tgħix.

Goblin:
We are humans, but we are far more powerful than the meer undead who killed many of you. Attack us and you will all die. Talk and most of you may live.

GM:
Bluff 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Intimidate 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Human Ranger

GM:
Look around. Any chance there is a way to get a better vantage point on the towers? or a whole bunch of firewood stacked up against them?
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

Melinda Sorn wrote:

"Maybe before I healed myself," Alaric says with a grin.

Myriana:
No firewood against the towers, but they're wooden structures and might burn.

You're in a good spot for shooting right now, frankly -- you're in the first range increment and you have cover.

GM Only:
Sense Motive 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer
Alaric Graff wrote:

Quick, play the part of my undead minion. She says very quietly, trying to burn off some of the anxiety as she waits for a response from within.

"Ma nemminx tiegħek ħafna jimteddu, ħaġa undead ħażina li m'huwiex tajjeb!" shouts the visibly frightened conductor. "Issa, jien se tagħmel inti wieħed u wieħed biss joffri, qabel ma jinstabx vjolenti - ħalli lkoll ħajjin u inessu jaħarbu, u jista 'jkollok kollha ta' teżor tagħna! Dan huwa OFFERTA FINALI tiegħi!"

Goblin:
”I do not believe your highly improbably lie, foul undead thing!”

”Now, I will make you one and only one offer, before this turns violent – let all of us live and allow us to flee, and you may have all of our treasure! That is my FINAL OFFER!”

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Loudly, Ftehim, jekk inti tħalli b'mod paċifiku issa.

Goblin:
Deal, if you leave peacefully now.

Messaged to Myriana and loud enough for the boys to hear. They will be leaving now. Let them pass without injury, unless they attack. Be on guard for attack, sometimes they forget what they agreed to.

Human Ranger

GM:
Yeah that’s what I was afraid of. They have height and cover…I’m first lever & did not take rapid shot. Sigh. ;) Get ready to shoot one if any of their ‘tube things’ launch or Mel says go.

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

"Great. Undead," Kalimac mutters. He does his best impression of a dead cavalier riding a wolf, but otherwise maintains a defensive stance.

Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

"TIM TIEGĦI JIRBAĦ!" screams the conductor.

Goblin:
MY TEAM WINS!

All the goblins cheer. The ones on the other tower launch their fireworks into the air in celebration, where they spark with bright, colorful flashes and bangs. Then the fireworks keep going, since apparently each tube contains more than one, so they fire them across at the other tower, then at each other, and then in completely random directions.

This number will accidentally be fired at party members: 1d6 ⇒ 3

And that sequence of up to six, going by alphabetical order, will be: 1d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 3

I'll determine if any of them actually hit once I see those numbers. Let me know if you take any actions in response to the accidental firings.

Then the Goblins slip off the top of the towers and leave. Before she goes, the conductor says: "Oh, il-bqija tal-teżor huwa fid-dar tal-Kap. Ma naħsibx li huwa ser ikunu kuntenti dwar il-ftehim. Hu msakkra lilu nnifsu fil hemm, sabiex nirrakkomanda tissettja il-post fuq nar. Li se tikseb lilu."

The she hurries off the roof.

Goblin:
"Oh, the rest of the treasure is in the Chief's house. I don't think he'll be happy about the deal. He's locked himself in there, so I recommend you set the place on fire. That will get him out."

Human Ranger

bluff? what is this bluff you speak of?

Myri puts her bow away before the goblins can see her & does her best to pretend to be an undead thing behind the wall.

bluff: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

These fireworks are ranged touch attacks, so they resolve against your touch AC.

Firework accidentally fired at Hrunndalf: 1d20 - 16 ⇒ (5) - 16 = -11

Firework accidentally fired at Liothonae (Liothonae gets +4 to her touch AC from cover, as she is presumed to be behind the wall with Myriana): 1d20 - 20 ⇒ (13) - 20 = -7

Firework accidentally fired at Melinda: 1d20 - 18 ⇒ (1) - 18 = -17

In the unlikely event that any of them hit, they will do 2 hit points of damage, unless it is a critical.

Oh, and a possible fumble on the negative 17 to hit attack against Melinda -- yes, those were all negative numbers. Fumble confirmation roll: 1d20 - 18 ⇒ (19) - 18 = 1

Male Human Cleric 10

Having had quite enough of getting hit in the face, Alaric will take a knee and point his shield skyward.

Randomly generated Fumble -- Hit self, roll for crit threat. Since that changes it from the 9th to the 1st range increment, that also alters the confirmation roll: 1d20 ⇒ 17

Yup. A goblin shoots herself in the face, stumbles around blindly, and falls of the building into the mud with a soft plop. She lays there face down as the rest of the goblins vanish from sight.

GM only:
Falling damage, nonlethal 1d6 ⇒ 4

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kalimac can't shake this feeling that the firing of the fireworks could be a distraction from the imminent attack of undead from the swamp. He nervously tries to keep an eye both on the goblins and the as-yet-unseen undead.

Perception, if it comes up: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Human Cleric 10

Sighing, Alaric starts toward the facedown goblin.

(The fireworks were very pretty, though, as they arced over the village and into the village and towards your eyes, exploding with a shower of bright sparks. It was like a 4th of Erastus festival. Only right next to you.)

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Mel follows Alaric, her eyes watering from the stupid bright lights, prepared for a goblin horde to burst out on the cleric.

As Alaric checks out the downed goblin ... absolutely nothing happens.

The village has returned to eerily peaceful silence.

Alaric:
She's a little burned, but it's mostly nonlethal damage from the fall into the mud that knocked her out.

Male Human Cleric 10

"You were putting me on about pretending to be undead, weren't you?"

Assuming he reaches the downed goblin without incident, he's going to see if she can be saved.

Heal 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Alaric carefully turns the unconscious goblin over, making certain her airway is clear and her head is pillowed on something reasonably soft. "She'll be fine, and hopefully a little more reluctant to play with explosives in the future."

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Is she okay? I did say that they could all leave un-dead. Did I lie? She seems to be waiting to answer his other question when she is more sure that there isn't goblins ready to jump out.

Human Ranger

Once the goblins are safely out of sight, Myri’s bow finds its way back in her hands and she rejoins the others inside the fort. ”Umm, so what just happened?”

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Then we should probably back off so that they can taker her with them, if she's alright to be moved. as her hand gently touches Alaric's shoulder. I would prefer that our peace accord is kept.

Male Human Cleric 10

"Of course." He stands and steps away from the unconscious goblin.

The pair steps away from the unconscious goblin. There is a pause.

Nothing happens. No one comes for her.

Kalimac, on high alert, sees nothing.

There are crickets.

She looks peaceful, sleeping there, kind of like a ... well, kind of like a sleeping goblin with a singed face, really.

Male Human Cleric 10

To Melinda: "She might be on her own. Considering how little they seemed to care when she suffered her injury, it's not too surprising. Let's keep an eye on her while we investigate the village. If she's still asleep when we're finished, we can decide what to do with her then."

Female Quarter-Orc Sorcerer

Okay, so the goblins are gone? She slumps slightly against Alaric, her face losing color as she breaths, trying to keep the meal Lio and Myriana put together in her stomach.

After a minute, The long and short of it is that they surrendered, and promised us all their remaining treasure. Which is in Chief Gutwad's hut, where he locked himself away while the undead humans killed two-thirds of the tribe and took back most of the treasure. She looks around at everyone, Any specific questions?

Male Halfling Cavalier 10

Kalimac dismounts from Attatoq. "I'll have Attatoq guard the gate while we're checking the village." To Attatoq he says, "Attatoq, te olete valve kohustus. Anna meile teada, kui keegi tuleb."

Halfling:
"Attatoq, you are on guard duty. Let us know if anyone comes."
