Jelani's Unchained Test (Inactive)

Game Master Brian Minhinnick

Roll20

Hello everyone,

I am interested in trying out the unchained versions of the monk, rogue, barbarian and summoner in actual play (and by play I mean combat). I am pretty busy at the moment, but I could set up a series of basic encounters...say for levels 4, 6, and 10 and then run a group of four through them. Naturally I want to make a character myself, but I'd be willing to take on three more participants.

Proposed Character Creation Rules:
Level 4, 6 and 10 version
20 point buy
Core and Featured races
Standard wealth by level, no more than 30% in one item, no crafting
Two traits, no drawbacks
Only unchained classes

The first encounter would be CR 7, the second one CR 9 and the third one CR 14.

Would anyone be interested in joining me? People I've played with in the past take priority, otherwise I will go with who seems the most reliable. Any questions are welcome.

I think I stumbled across something that looked interesting (i think it was a skill or something) that had some kind of "unchained" variant.

What book could I find this info in? It sounds interesting.

EDIT: Nvm, found it on the PRD. Color me interested. probably gonna go with barbarian

I think I want to try a monk for my DMPC.

Well if you guys are going Barbarian and Monk, I could pick up Summoner. I've looked at the class off and on for a little while and I'd be interested to see what I can do with it.

I just started an Unchained Rogue in a game. Wouldn't mind play testing her at higher levels to see how her build will function.

So, only unchained classes means we will be on our own for healing? Just wondering, for planning purposes.

It means the summoner would be in charge of healing/wanding. Or someone else who has UMD or something similar.

Looks like we have the necessary people. Go ahead and make your characters you three. I need the stat blocks in standard Paizo format, or Hero Lab format is close enough. I also need them in aliases for this forum, just for ease of access. You can keep a personal copy of their sheet in whatever place and form you choose. I will get working on the encounters soon.

Do you want three separate alias or would be alias with 3 different spoilers suffice?

Three spoilers is fine. I just need to have access to the information with a single click and on a site I know works from China (aka here).

I am not sure if you wanted all 3 at once, but would it be OK just to build the first one, so i could change things for the next tier if i felt like it?

if not, I'll do all three. I was just wondering. I am pretty indecisive at the moment so i dont know if i want a big two-hander or to dual-wield. or just go with punching.

One at a time is totally fine as well.

Are archetypes ok? I have none in mind as of yet, just wondering. I initially thought the unchained classes did not allow it, but the barbarian entry states that it is allowed. I just wanted to know how pure you were looking to keep it.

As long as everything it replaces is still there, sure.

How are you doing HP? Max?

PFS style. Max at first and then half you HD+1+con after that.

here is my submission at level 4:

Kodlak

Here is my DMPC.

Jeez how is that monk doing more damage than my barbarian? I must have done something horribly wrong

Here is the Rogue. With the bonus weapon finesse, it made sense to use the same, light melee weapon. I went knife master for the increased sneak attack damage. Kubrick would have been the best choice of weapon but I didn't want to waste a feat getting proficient. I may do it for the 10th level version.

He's not really...about the same. His average damage on a hit is 19.5 while power attacking.

If you rage and power attack you should be doing 20.5 on an average swing.

The whole point of the unchained monk was to bring them in line with the other melee classes. Plus you're built defensively...better AC than me, more HP and DR to top it off. Max out your strength and lower your con and stuff and you'd do more damage too.

ah. yeah i wanted to have some CON and DEX, didn't want to be too cheesy.

and i was more worried about dying even in one fight since there is no dedicated healing so i figured i'd take a few precautions.

about same damage per swing, but you get two of them, haha. oh well, we can see how it goes.

Indeed we shall!

How much more time you think you need, Loupe?

I'm working on him on and off, my work schedule got bumped up and I've had less time than I would've liked. Still, I got through the toughest bits--choosing evolutions and such--already, so I should hopefully have it set up to go later tonight, tomorrow night at the latest.

Cool, cool. I'll start working on the map then.

Sorry guys, I got delayed by work having me stay late and other inconveniences of real life. I'm off tomorrow so I'll have plenty of time to get the character finished up.

I've got the map for the first encounter ready to go. Where we at Loup? I'd like to get started soon.

Just finished putting on the finishing touches of gear and spell selection. Hopefully with this I'm good to go and ready to roll. And I'm hoping he'll do well--especially once he gets his buff routine going.

Alright, I will get a gameplay thread going soon.

Gameplay

So let me see if I get this, The unchained summoner is "fixed" now At 20th level the summoner has 4 attacks/ round and his eidolon has 7 attacks/ round (so between them 11 attacks/ round). The new unchained monk has only 6 attacks/ round while the unchained barbarian has 4 attacks/ round. Them me how this is fixed?
