Bleeding heavily from the hacking blow delivered by Corum, but nonetheless pleased with her work in locking the rest of the group in place, Granny Nan is old and wise enough to know that her time is nearly at an end. she cannot hope to defeat so many attackers and her damned useless troll guards are nowhere to be seen.

The old elf struggles against the webs with everything he has, if he could only use his anger to power his frail body as Corum could he would tear these webs off Him and rip the witch apart with his bare hands.
Alas his will was strong, his anger toward the witches an undeniable, but his flesh was weak and he could do nothing but rail ineffectually at His bonds and glare with hate toward their enemy and hope that one of his companions could end her miserable existence before she could really hurt one of them.

That's exactly what I mean :)

The witch had on her a potion of cure moderate wounds, a potion of fly, a potion of invisibility, a ring of protection +1 and a ring of keys.

A large glass snow globe depicting Whitethrone's Royal Palace with a music box built into the base sits atop one of the nightstands, and is worth 300gp.

Under the desk, there is also box containing dozens of handwritten letters to Queen Elvanna and children's parents, obviously written by children themselves. The letters are heart-wrenching appeals to 'go home' or to 'let them go.' Alongside them are requisition orders, all stamped with approval, for children from orphanages in Whitethrone to be brought to the clock tower. There are far more requisition orders here than children in the cells below - the box's contents paint a grim picture of what has transpired here.

I need to be better than that...I have to be or someone is going to die. Probably myself

Berating himself silently he moves with purpose toward the headless witch.
Looking down at the crumpled corpse he tries to regain his composure, takeing several deep breaths he calms himself as best he can.

I apologise Greyston, and to you also Dell. I should not take out my frustration on you...I ...it's just that I was not able to do anything...I couldn't stop her, I was helpless. It is not a feeling that sits well with me he says without turning around, apart from Corum none of the others knows much about him. They know nothing of his incarceration or the events that led to it.
but I say this to you now and mark my words well. should a witch gain control over me then do not hesitate. Put me down before I hurt anyone. I will not have your deaths on my conscience as well he says bitterly

before we head through this door we need to heal fully and buff as much as possible assuming this leads to the dragon.
Do we wait an hour so Nasrin can speak and cast spells? Can we wait that long with people's active buffs?
I have 4 potions of clw if anyone wants them
I can cast enlarge person on Corum if he wants it, 5 minute duration
And I have a scroll of fly. Which I think I should cast on Corum as well is it 5 minutes duration?
I will cast mirror image and protection from energy on myself
When we get to the dragon I suggest everyone waits before acting so I can cast haste on you all.
I will need to do this before Corum rages.
I am assuming if the spells are active on Corum and then he rages then they continue to work ?

Moving over to Sapphire offers his hand to her. "Let me guide you, you did well in that fight." He says squeezing her hand.

He then turns back to Elleross as he apologises. "It's ok Elleross, my frustration got the better of me i couldn't get out of that web either." He turns to show the self inflicted burns. "Let's at least have a plan first Corum. Do we wait for Nasrins and Sapphire inflictions to wear off?" He says slowly the energy still sapped from him.

I say we wait and heal, we could do a quick search while we do.

Elleross waves away Greystons apology, he had nothing to apologise for he was just keeping the peace.
its fine Greyston, You were just keeping the peace. i do not know what is the best option. if we can afford to wait, we should wait. Nasrin cannot call upon her powers whilst she cannot speak and Sapphire you look like you could do with a rest. he says
on the other hand, if we wait the spell I cast upon dells ammunition will end by the time we set off
Nas, Sapphire, what do you want to do?
he asks them
whatever we decide, before we go up I have some spells I would like to cast, Corum I will enable you to fly and I intend to increase your size and strength. If you are willing.
Then once we get up there, if you can hold off on your rage I will cast a spell called haste upon you all. It will give you incredible speed

That's correct Elleros, any new spell would require a saving throw.

At Greyston's shout, Del's perplexed look becomes even more confused and he points to himself and arches his eye brows wildly as if to clearly say, without words, "Me?" He begins to stammer, "Now wait just a-" when Sapphire's grip steals the retort from his lips before he can speak it. As the others mull about in awkwardness and Corum urges them all to press onward, Del offers to Sapphire in a quiet aside, "I would just like to point out that I have been nothing but a wellspring of charm and wit since we set foot in this black tower." He shoots her a grin and wink, demonstrating perhaps that Elleross and Greyston's shouts were already water under the bridge when the very pair then apologize.

Del nods with a broad, easy smile. "Think nothing of it, my friends." He then nods to the door. "Before we go quaffing every potion we have, shouldn't we check to see that those stairs end in a dragon and not just another floor of grannies and trolls?

Del, I'm sure we all appreciate your wit, but maybe you can keep the more eloquent parts to yourself.. just for now?

she gestures around

after all, you don't want anyone else to hear your words spoken aloud and write your story before you get a chance eh!?

She claps the half-orc on the back, squeezing his shoulder in fondness.

Sapphire grimaces at Greyston as he kindly tends to her.

Now that's kind of you to say, but I made no difference in that fight, just cut a lot of air with my blade. Corum, his rage, saved us there. Sometimes all the magic in the wworld can't defeat a steel blade, I should remember that lesson more myself. Even with training to fight in the dark, I just couldn't land a blow.

She sighs and smiles at the alchemist

Never mind, together we can triumph, I'm sure of it

Sapphire gratefully accepts another potion from Elleross and swings in back

Dropping the bottle to the floor she tenses her shoulders high then relaxes them, before moving up next to Corum.

Ah ok thanks for the heads up JZ, I thought a healing spell on the magus list was too good to be true (forgive the pun ;)

Perhaps now she's seen it in use and been directly able to observe its effects, she might try and limit it to emergency situations.

One thing I should point out is that I recognise pbp is a long format of the game and if people make a decision early in character building that they think may be a mistake, I will work with them to rectify it later provided they don't subsequently choose feats that are reliant on the one they'd now like to change and so on.

Also, I tend to give players a chance in the level up from 1 to 2 to change any aspect of their characters, from ability scores to class and even race. This is a one time thing and it would be good of you did decide to change class for example that you were broadly still I'm the same category, so Corum changing to fighter, bloodrager, even melee druid or ranger. It just helps maintain the Continuity of back story and rp so far.

Have a think whether this applies to you because you will be at that junction soon

Commentary, not complaint: does this adventure realize we are only 1st level?

Yep. I have changed nothing about this adventure so far save from actually removing two encounters and not having any random encounters that resulted in combat either.

The obituary page for Snows of Summer is quite extensive :/

I don't use XP but the guide actually suggests you shouldn't level up until even further along than this Lodge. However, I will have you level when you clear this place cos it's not going to get easier!

On a serious note, I would have a backup character or two ready for this p as particular book. I'm not a killer GM by ny stretch but this is a pretty deadly scenario as low level Adventure Paths go

Maybe you could allow us more hero points to offset the danger?
It would be annoying to invest time in a character and have them die so early with no hope of bringing them back.
But at the same time we don't want it to be easy :)

Well the early days is the easiest time to lose a character if it happens since there is less impact on the overarching story.

That cloak is brilliant - Happy to let it go to Sapphire. I suppose its a good time to talk about how loot is dished out? Will we roll for loot? Priority first? so a ring of protection would go to frontliner with the worst AC?

The only loot i'd really like is a good at the spellbook - i'm not sure if anything in it is on my list though. I'd also take the Mswk thieves tools as i have disable device and they will help a lot! Then i think its best we use 25gold from what we got so i can craft a cure light potion, agreed?

Rage power:
Superstition.

On rage powers. I'm torn between the beast totem path and the regenerative/self healing ones.

Beast totem uses 3 powers to eventually gain pounce (which looks great) but the others will enable me to self heal and regenerate HP. With Damage reduction I reckon that will enable me to stand toe to toe with almost anything while raging.

I will also go increased DR when I can (lvl 8) and follow the superstitious path by taking Witch hunter and spell sunder.

What do you guys reckon?

One thing Corum, the average hp for d12 is 7.

Also, it's a 20 point buy for ability scores so I don't think you'd be able to just take 1 from cha and add it to str

Yeah 20 point buy so this is my calculation:

Star 16 (10 pts) +2 racial to make 18
Dex 14 (5)

Cha 8

22 points in total. I get the extra 2 points for dropping cha to 8.

Nasrin. Pounce = full attack on a charge which is good. To get it though you need the others. Armour bonus is OK but not a priority and claws feels like a waste of a power.

Leveled with one caveat... before I pass on JZ's kind offer of whiteout liquid for my character sheet, thought I'd better check something.

We're all good with an invisible character losing their invisibility when they attack, and it's recognised that for instance rogues get a single round of sneak attacks in as they break their invisibility. However, being invisible grants you total concealment, my question would be..during the round you break invisibility are you still considered to have total concealment?

I ask because I'm looking at following the Moonlight Stalker feat chain, so it's important to understand when concealment applies and when it doesn't!

Sapphire wrote:

Sapphire are you saying that it is your interpretation that a rogue gets a full attack routine benefiting from concealment when breaking invisibility? Because that is not my interpretation unfortunately.

If a rogue is under the effect of invisibility and has multiple attacks. I would rule that the first attack breaks the spell and therefore the second would not benefit from concealment. Am I to take it you don't believe that to be the case?

Wow that was a quick answer JZ!

Nope not my interpretation, I was just paraphrasing the concept and evidently have ended up being too imprecise! The first attack benefiting sounds exactly right, I was just bouncing the idea around to make sure moonlight stalker would apply for that first attack before I went ahead and built towards it!

Thanks for confirming :)

Yes, it would totally count for that first attack and multiple attacks when greater invisibility is in play. It would also count for all attacks where you were in dim light and the opponent does not have darkvision or other special perception and also when under the effects of some spells such as blur or on the outer edge of a fog cloud.

When you think about it there are actually quite a lot of opportunities to get the benefit, especially for a magus. At first glance I thought it was a little circumstantial but you should be able to get the benefit fairly consistently.

1 scrolls of magic weapon
1 Scroll of unseen servant
1 scrolls of lesser animate dead

2 x alchemist fire

I will take these if I can, and also I would like to keep the spell book to copy all the spells out of it but that will take time. Especially if anyone else is going to study it.
If no one wants the other scrolls I will keep them or we sell them .

I can duplicate healing spells now in dire circumstances , as it will cost me a lot of spell slots to do it and several rounds.
But it will be a useful fallback if we are in a tight spot.

The spellbook is amazingly useful for this group. Elleros, Sapphire and Greyston can copy most if not all of the spells out of it.

I should be able to copy all of them, how do you want to manage that j? How long does it take to copy a spell it's an hour plus the time to decipher it I think.
Plus you need to pass the spell craft check.

That's right. Decipher the spell first, easiest with read magic spell, then spend an hour studying it. Make a spellcraft check and if you succeed its done. So an hour per spell basically.

Male Elf Alchemist 11 | HP 80 | AC 17, touch 13, flat-footed 15 | Perc 17 | Fort +11, Ref +13, Will +7

contains alarm, chill touch, expeditious retreat, feather fall, identify, locate object, and ray of enfeeblement

These are the spells. I'd let you and Sapphire have a go at it first but i'd like to take the scroll to write in my book if you dont mind?

Iirc someone pointed out to me that it's best if a wizard copies spells from scrolls in to their book first, as other classes can usually copy from a wizard's spell book, but vice versa is not necessarily true as wizards etc cannot understand formulas.

I'm happy to pass on the spells and scrolls, they are far better homed with Greyston and Elleross. Also, good plan with the alchemist's fire!

You are right Sapphire - But i assumed wizard/magus could understand formulas of spells they know. But i think it would be best of you or Elleros copy it down and i just cheat off both of your work :P

Messed up with rage power j. To follow the invulnerable and self healing path (making Corum a total melee guy) I can't follow the superstitious path. I'm swapping my 2nd level power for roused anger which allows me to rage while fatigued.

So what is the plan with loot? Do we know how much gold is split? are we setting aside some money for me to buy ingredients to craft a potion a day?
