Though the rubble and shards of glass, your find five ancient triangular coins from Ligar worth 50 gp each, an indigo jade bracelet worth 225 gp, a darkwood wolf ’s-head scepter worth 20 gp, seven octagonal continual flame gems worth 120 gp each. Finally, underneath some of the twisted metal of the water tank, Beppo finds a bead that Kyle feels is magical. (Spellcraft to identify)

Killian admires the treasures found in the room, musing aloud and wondering what kind of tales the items might tell if each could speak. Damaia focuses his attention though as she mentions breathing beyond the door.

"Let's hope that breathing belongs to a friendlier sort than that magnificent skeleton." As the group approaches the door, Killian gestures Brandon and Beppo forward while taking a step back to stand beside Taryin and Damaia.

Suddenly, three dog-like creatures lunge at you. Although shaped like dogs, these muscular creatures have a coat that seem to drink up the light, drawing shadows in around them. Their maw is full of sharp teeth, and a wisp of shadow drips from their writhing tongues.

Taryin jumps back at the appearance of the dogs but steels his nerves. Taryin faces his palms down and pushes them sideways, then barks out "Iegra!" and throws his hands towards the dogs. The ground underneath them becomes coated in grease.

Putting Grease at the feet of the dogs, hitting as many of them as I can without hitting allies.

The first dog bites and trips Brandon. The others quickly tear into him as he falls to the ground, taking 31 points of damage from all the biting. Beppo's first swing hits a wisp of a shadow.

Kyle's Knowledge:
When a shadow mastiff howls or barks, all creatures except evil outsiders within a 300-foot spread must succeed on a DC 16 Will save or become panicked for 2d4 rounds. This is a sonic, mind-affecting fear effect. A creature that successfully saves cannot be affected by the same mastiff’s bay for 24 hours. Shadow Blend (Su) In any condition other than bright light, a shadow mastiff disappears into the shadows, giving it total concealment (50% miss chance). A shadow mastiff can suspend or resume this ability as a free action. Great Fort, Great Reflex, OK Will defenses.

At first consumed by terror and then blinding pain, Brandon falls to the ground with the pack of dogs tearing at him mercilessly.

JC:

JC the second attack of opportunity and two of the dogs on the enemies' turn didn't hit me. I drank a potion of shield before coming in giving me an AC of 22, the dog with the AOO rolled 17 + 4 for me being prone. Also, once on the floor the first two dogs rolled 20 and 16 + 4 for prone, both missing.

I figure I only actually got hit twice for 23 damage.

Kyle casts Daylight on his holy symbol and lifts it above his head.

Daylight (Duration 10 min./level):
You touch an object when you cast this spell, causing the object to shed bright light in a 60-foot radius. This illumination increases the light level for an additional 60 feet by one step (darkness becomes dim light, dim light becomes normal light, and normal light becomes bright light). Creatures that take penalties in bright light take them while within the 60-foot radius of this magical light. Taryin looks down. A bit overkill, but it'll have to do. He moves his hands quickly upwards in a double helix, then slowly dissipating his hands outwards, while whispering the same word quietly. After a moment, Brandon dissapears from view.

Casting invisibility on Brandon, hopefully the dogs won't attack what they can't see

Killian snaps his fingers as Aemon's second arrow finds purchase in one of the mastiff's hide, the arrow's flight magically correcting at the last second.

"This little foray is certainly proving to be full of the unexpected. Dinosaur bones and baying hounds aren't exactly what I first thought we'd encounter as we walked up to the front door. It does seem that this may well be connected to the source of the shadowbeasts plaguing our city, though. Quite an adventure this is turning into. Ha!"

Grand Lodge

You quickly look around the room before moving on. The walls of this large display hall are decorated with numerous small alcoves. Some of these alcoves contain bits of exotic armor—a red-and-gold breastplate here, a plumed helm there— but most of the alcoves are empty with bits of armor scattered on the floor. A fully armored knight mounted on an equally armored horse stands in the middle of the hall on a low display.

Damaia examines a southeastern door with a lock. After insuring everything looks OK, she opens it slowly to reveal stairs leading to down to a cellar level. An examination of the lock shows it was recently destroyed by acid. The mounted knight figure in the middle of the room is a Chelish Knight from before Aroden’s Fall—the knight’s armor is mounted on a wooden frame, but the horse it rides is an actual horse preserved by taxidermy, reinforced by a wood and iron skeleton.

Taryin follows along quietly, noddin gat the others suggestion. He occasionally throws out a detect magic, usually on doors and new rooms. He sends one at the knight as well.
