Aemon Brooks |
Aemon walks up to Beppo, and pats him on his back. "I'll say one thing about you Beppo you sure can take a hit, good thing we've got Kyle here that really did look nasty" Aemon then looks ahead. "Let's get moving we can always come back." He then looks back and Brandon. "It seems a waste if we were to wait around."

There are a number of different ways we can go. Do you all have a preference?
Map updated. See doors available there.
Brandon Harcroft |
Brandon looms over everyone but still manages to look bashful when face with compliments.
Thanks for the assistance Killian, it made all the difference. Listen I think we should take the time to explore this place whenever we get it, who knows what's around the next corner. I'll keep an eye out while you look around.
Killian Shard |
Killian offers Brandon a half bow in return, "We all have our gifts, my friend." He the starts sifting through some of the puddles, pushing water aside with his foot as he looks about the floor, not wanting to step on any particularly large shards of glass. While minding his footing, he wanders about the room, looking at anything that might strike his interest.

Beppo van Drotske |
Makes sense to me, Brandon. Then let's go ... uh ... to the north? Beppo shrugs and starts looking around the room for any useful objects or helpful tomes.

You do a quick, yet somewhat complete search through the room.
Though the rubble and shards of glass, your find five ancient triangular coins from Ligar worth 50 gp each, an indigo jade bracelet worth 225 gp, a darkwood wolf ’s-head scepter worth 20 gp, seven octagonal continual flame gems worth 120 gp each. Finally, underneath some of the twisted metal of the water tank, Beppo finds a bead that Kyle feels is magical. (Spellcraft to identify)
Damaia checks the door.
1d20 ⇒ 15
I don't see any traps, but I hear something breathing on the other side of that door.
GM-JCServant |
Taryin identifies the bead as a Bead of Force.
The item has been added to the loot page along with its value, and the value of the items found so far. Refer to the house rules PBP section for more detail on how loot is handled in our PBP system.
Killian Shard |
Killian nods to Aemon, offering a smile, "You flatter me, friend."
Killian admires the treasures found in the room, musing aloud and wondering what kind of tales the items might tell if each could speak. Damaia focuses his attention though as she mentions breathing beyond the door.
"Let's hope that breathing belongs to a friendlier sort than that magnificent skeleton." As the group approaches the door, Killian gestures Brandon and Beppo forward while taking a step back to stand beside Taryin and Damaia.
Brandon Harcroft |
Bloody giant skeleton... Brandon mutters under his breath.
Give me a moment. I'm trusting this place less and less.
As he shrinks back down to normal size, Brandon takes one of his own vials and drinks from it.
Vial of shield.
Ok, ready?
He takes the handle and swings the door open
GM-JCServant |
You open up the door, carefully.
Suddenly, three dog-like creatures lunge at you. Although shaped like dogs, these muscular creatures have a coat that seem to drink up the light, drawing shadows in around them. Their maw is full of sharp teeth, and a wisp of shadow drips from their writhing tongues.

Tearing flesh from bone, the dogs instinctive and brutal pack attack has left the alchemist barely alive in only a few seconds.
Brandon Harcroft |
At first consumed by terror and then blinding pain, Brandon falls to the ground with the pack of dogs tearing at him mercilessly.
JC the second attack of opportunity and two of the dogs on the enemies' turn didn't hit me. I drank a potion of shield before coming in giving me an AC of 22, the dog with the AOO rolled 17 + 4 for me being prone. Kyle Gray |
Kyle casts Daylight on his holy symbol and lifts it above his head.
If daylight is cast on a small object that is then placed inside or under a light-proof covering, the spell's effects are blocked until the covering is removed.
Daylight brought into an area of magical darkness (or vice versa) is temporarily negated, so that the otherwise prevailing light conditions exist in the overlapping areas of effect.
Daylight counters or dispels any darkness spell of equal or lower level, such as darkness.
Killian Shard |
"Brandon! Back on your feet, man! These hounds are nothing compared to that shadowy triceratops so pull yourself together!" Killian's voice thunders in the room, somehow drowning out the lingering echoes of the shadowy beast's howl and steeling the nerves of all who hear it.
Rallying Cry: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Rallying Cry (Su): At 1st level, an arcane duelist can use performance to rally dispirited allies. Each round he makes an Intimidate check. Any ally (including the bard) within 30 feet may use this check in place of his own saving throw against fear and despair effects. Those already under a fear or despair effect can attempt a new save each round using the bard's Intimidate check. Rallying cry does not work on effects that don't allow saves. This is a mind-affecting ability that uses audible components.

He then looks down at his feet, Wait - where is Brandon? and holds his stance to avoid stepping on his wounded and invisible friend.

Urrggghh. I always hated dogs. Brandon grumbles as he hauls himself to his feet.
Thanks for the intervention gentlemen, I thought that was it for me. Just give me a second.
He eventually becomes visible, sitting on the floor and rearranging the tattered remains of his clothing.
Brandon Harcroft |
Putting on a brave face he says;
Come on, I have a couple of minutes of shield left. I'd rather have that protection in place something else jumps put at us in the next room.
He moves into the chamber beyond.
Killian Shard |
"This little foray is certainly proving to be full of the unexpected. Dinosaur bones and baying hounds aren't exactly what I first thought we'd encounter as we walked up to the front door. It does seem that this may well be connected to the source of the shadowbeasts plaguing our city, though. Quite an adventure this is turning into. Ha!"
GM-JCServant |
You quickly look around the room before moving on. The walls of this large display hall are decorated with numerous small alcoves. Some of these alcoves contain bits of exotic armor—a red-and-gold breastplate here, a plumed helm there— but most of the alcoves are empty with bits of armor scattered on the floor. A fully armored knight mounted on an equally armored horse stands in the middle of the hall on a low display.
Damaia examines a southeastern door with a lock. After insuring everything looks OK, she opens it slowly to reveal stairs leading to down to a cellar level. An examination of the lock shows it was recently destroyed by acid. The mounted knight figure in the middle of the room is a Chelish Knight from before Aroden’s Fall—the knight’s armor is mounted on a wooden frame, but the horse it rides is an actual horse preserved by taxidermy, reinforced by a wood and iron skeleton.
You can do a detailed search, move down to the cellar, or return back to a previous area. See map.
Aemon Brooks |
Aemon nods his head. "You're right Kyle let's keep clearing rooms." He then turns to Killian. "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself Killian, We will find a way to stop the city's shadow problem here and safe a lot of people in doing so." He then steps back into the back line of the party.
