Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

"We're going to need to figure out our way through that eye. Before we start experimenting, do you mind if we poke around the other room? You never know what we might find."
Ready to start experimenting on the eye after that. I suggest we try; shooting it with an arrow, staring contest, showing it the steel mirror we found, sneaking up on it at night, and if none of that works, breaking the wall down behind it.

Zadok leaves the shrine, leaving Wellstone alone. A strange impulse comes over the doctor, making him walk over to a cabinet. He slides a drawer open, and begins feeling around until... Aha! False bottom!
Opening the secret compartment, he pulls out a cloth bundle. He reverently unwraps it to find a battered metal object, cylindrical in shape with a rotting wooden handle. Ten small metal objects fall out of the bundle as well. He gets a momentary chill down his spine. The age, the weathered nature... All signs that the pistol is a relic of a different time, and that it's ended many lives. One battered pistol and ten rounds of ammunition
Back out in the hallway, the guard on duty says to Zadok, "You can, but please take care and be quiet. We've done everything we can to shelter the children from all... this."

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

Calmly, quietly, Zadok slowly opens the door to inspect the area. He gives children within a warm smile, and holds a finger to his philtrum.

Zadok enters the room, quiet as can be. A nest of cushions and linens squeezes between the room’s rear wall and a battered desk covered in folded paper animals. A sculpted emblem of a spiraling comet overlooks the otherwise ransacked room.
Two children look up at Zadok. He can see that they were in the midst of folding paper animals. An adult watches him enter, then walks over to him to ask, "Is everything alright?"

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

"Indeed, as the sun rises, things will continue to get better. If you don't mind, I want to thoroughly search this room for any advantage in helping the situation."
As gently as he can, knowing he's not skilled with children, "Little ones, my name is Zadok."
He'll then search the room for anything of note.

The children nod and go back to their crafts.
Zadok searches the area, quickly realized that after the survivors holed up in this area they ransacked the room for fuel. A quick search of the lone piece of furniture, a desk, yields nothing of interest.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

The occultist leaves the room with a smile. When he turns back to the eye, his face turns to steel. "Let us lock wits with the eye."

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

Zadok goes out into the hallway and stares at the thing.
Anyone have other knowledge skills they can roll?

Deldhindon Duskmere |

Since I didn't see anyone roll these...
Deldhindon picks up the scrolls and wand and examines them to divine their purpose.
Spellcraft, scrolls: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Spellcraft, wand: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Deldhindon shares his discovery.
Can anyone use these? I can probably in a pinch, if not.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

For future reference, Zadok can identify items without rolling. He can even go a little further. I'm tempted to use the ability on the door if the other tactics don't work.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

Zadok steps away and gathers the others, "My curiosity is piqued. I have ideas for getting through the wall. I don't want to do this as a maverick, I'm interested in opinions."
1. Staring contest
2. Mirror
3. Object reading
4. Arrow
5. Break it down

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

Already tempted, Zadok, walks up to the eye. Gently (and not near the mouth) he touches it he seeks the cloth woven by threads of time...
As best he can, the occultist reads the Eye

Zadok places his hand on the edge of the eye, attuning himself to it as if it were an object. The first thing he realizes is that this... is not an object, not anymore.
A momentary flash of an image races across his mind's eye. A man, with long white hair and blue eyes that seem to stare at nothing. And a name: Ulver Zandalus.
He pulls his hand away, convinced that he's learned all he can using that power.

Arryn Glasswalker |

What can I discern about the way this eye works? What it can see or not see, what is it's field of vision? Does it have low light or infravision?
And from a medical standpoint... How is this thing carrying out biological processes?
Heal and Perception are both +9.

![]() |

Johari looks around the immediate area for any signs of the name, but comes up blank.
Arryn meanwhile makes a careful study of the eye. It's large, certainly larger than any he's seen before. It appears to be not unlike a human eye, though it also seems... watery? It follows him around as he carefully studies it.
One thing that is also clear: there once was a door here, but now this eye is here. It is both eerie, and and an obstacle.

Arryn Glasswalker |

To the eye: "Do you understand my words? Please blink once for yes and rapidly twice for no."
That was Taldane. He will try Elven and Sylvan if there is no clear response.
Is Druidic spoken on Golarian or written only?

The eye blinks once, pauses, blinks a second time... then blinks a third time. Arryn doesn't get the impression that it understands him.

Deldhindon takes some table scraps over to the eye, but upon closer inspection notices that the mouth, though visible, is well below the surface of the eye. WHen he moves the food close to it, the mouth doesn't move closer to eat.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

I vote mirror, then violence. Now. Still catching up, will post properly when I can if no one does before I'm caught up.

Arryn Glasswalker |

Arryn is hesitant... But Druidic is an old language. Perhaps?
To the others: We can't attack this thing, until we know more about it. It may be intelligent.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

"Talking hasn't worked. It's an eye, and I saw it's progenitor 'staring into nothing'."
Zadok draws his sword, and also pulls out the steel mirror he found upstairs. "Get into position, this could turn ugly as our fourth idea to our fifth."
Once placed, he'll raise his blade and point the mirror at the eye.

![]() |

Ha! Blink twice indeed.
Zadok pulls forth a mirror, aligning it so that the eye might gaze upon itself. When it sees itself, tears begin pouring profusely from the eye. It, along with the fungus surrounding it, begin to wither away. Eventually it reveals a door.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

Holy crap! Sweet. I figured that no matter what we'd have to fight that thing and had visions of a mini-beholder.
"Fascinating. I wonder about the story, and hope before my time is done, to know it."
Zadok confidently opens the door.

![]() |

Zadok opens the door, revealing a cathedral-like hall. White tile, spiderwebbed with cracks, lines the walls of room. A prominent, oval desk faces staunch double doors, while hard benches and portraits of somber doctors line the walls. Regal stairs ascend toward a second floor, but rubble has crushed the upper flights, blocking passage. Lofty windows, gridded by bars, reveal yellow mist seething just beyond.

Arryn Glasswalker |

Why are you asking it to blink twice if it doesn't understand you? If it did blink twice, would that mean it was lying?
No, it would mean it had a sense of humor. I was including the second option to save time and relay information.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

"Why that eye before this enclosure? Why an eye at all?" The occultist then motions for the others to follow as he looks hard at the desk.
Barring an obstacle, he'll Take 20 for 24.

Because even the WALLS have ears...

Zadok rifles through the desk, finding all the telltale signs of bureaucracy: patient admittance forms, remittance slips, and standard operating procedure manuals. None of it means anything of significance to him.
Arryn scans the room. For a moment he thinks he hears something to the south, and moves to investigate.
The southern doors have a small window, and when the druid looks he sees banks of thick yellow mist, obscuring sight beyond twenty feet. In the fog he catches a glimpse of vague, bulbous masses moving deeper in the mist and hears what sounds like the faint churning of a distant but gigantic stomach.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

Knowing that all information is important, Zadok stuffs his pack with the papers. "They might mean something to the survivors."
Hearing Arryn's words, he goes over to the window to see if he can get a handle on what's beyond the fragile glass...

Dr. Wellstone Quant |

Fascinating, Wellstone notes. Perhaps afflicted by some sadness that we cannot begin to fathom.

I have heard that one should refrain from telling secrets in a garden, for the corn has ears, the potatoes eyes, and the beanstalk!
With a hearty laugh, the good Doctor follows his friends into the room.

The slayer chuffs out a quick laugh.

Zadok glances out the window, but doesn't see enough to make heads or tails of what's out there.

Zadok Obed Mlaştină |

The occultist's eyes narrow, not enjoying the ignorance he feels. He turns from the window and instead heads over to the door down the hall and inspects it Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
