Beast. |

Sure, I can roll the next one :)
Terquem, just tell me where I need to start, and I can follow the instructions from there.

Tofutee |

*pulls out Terquem sock puppet* *is slapped by sock puppet*
Ok, so I'm not terquem and I don't play him on TV. But the document is available so in the effort of expediency I'm going to toss my two cents in.
Assuming you can access the Appendix 'A' document wherever you are.
Roll a D20, check Table II C
'space beyond door is'
Don't forget to check the passage width Table III A.
Then just follow the tables for where to go next.
Typically I just roll a pile of dice on the forum and use them as needed for the interactions.

Beast. |

Table II C start point. Check. :)
The space is: 1d20 ⇒ 13 A room
Size: 1d20 ⇒ 4 that is 10ft by 10ft
Contents: 1d20 ⇒ 5 that is empty :(
Exits: 1d20 ⇒ 17 with 2 exits,
Where?: 2d20 ⇒ (3, 5) = 8 both on the opposite wall
So an empty room :)

Tofutee |

Looks right. Under the assumption that we follow standard procedures and look in the room we now need to see what kind of doors they are (and if they are trapped.
Exits pool: 5d20 ⇒ (13, 13, 3, 7, 2) = 38
Strong wooden (13)
Neither locked or trapped (13) So stuck. DC16 Str check to open.
Stone door (3)
Trapped but not locked (7)
DL+3 trap (magic) (2)
*sigh* perhaps this one turns me into a tortoise.

Terquem |
Beast – I’ve seen other DMs do different things, like requiring Profession; Tanner, or Craft; Leather, but also allowing skinning, and getting the skin off successfully with a Survival Skill check. So, I will allow you to make a Survival Skill check, the DC will be 15, but it will take three turns to skin each alligator (but a single pair of alligator boots will require only one skin) so it is up to you to decide how much time to spend on the activity.
Bud and Tofutee, if Beast skins an alligator expect to spend 30 minutes in this room, which brings me back to something I’ve been lax about and that is enforcing a mandatory 10 minutes of rest every six turns. I’m going to remember to do that.

Terquem |
Okay - so here it is. I will try to update all my games this weekend, really try, and keep at it through the weekend and into next week. Okay?
I had a CT scan on Monday, the results weren't the best. I am scheduled for a surgery on Oct. 27 to remove something from my head that cannot be treated with drugs, but it is not in my brain, and is not supposed to be any kind of cancer, just something that needs to be taken out. There is, as always, a tiny, tiny chance of complications including vision problems - BUT I intend to keep doing this until I am forced to stop.

Terquem |
I have named the World where Du’Orbna is found, it is called Pirrunoth and this is a word that means, “Where the goddess Pirr Sleeps.” Pirr is a Dwarven Goddess, and Dwarves number almost as many as humans on this world.
The Country where Du’Orbna is found is called, “Eastland.” And it is on the continent of “South Augooria.”
The following Games are all set on this world
It’s “A” Dungeon
It’s “A” Dungeon, Too: The Second Chance
Reflections in the Eyes of the Beholders
“Say your Right Words”
The first three games are all set in Du’Orbna, while "Say your Right Words" is set on North Augooria
With regard to timelines
The It’s “A” Dungeons take place 400 years after the fall of Rhandilinskenburg, which is what became Du’Orbna (after the fall of the city, the terrible occupation that followed, and eventually the reclaiming of the city by the Lich Baroness It’Dupree).
Reflection in the Eye’s of the beholders takes place during the Necromechadon and Goblin Invasion of Rhandilinskenburg.
Say Your Right Words takes place 450 years before the fall of Rhandilinskenburg

Beast. |

Neat! Some cool history for this world :)
I'm adding 1 alligator skin and 2 alligator tails to my inventory :)
Oh, if you want Beast to pick a door, he will do so arbitraly, and probably pick left (he's left handed) :)

Tofutee |

No worries Terquem' just rest up. Sbould give you plenty of time to consider what Tofutee gets turned into next with all these magic traps I keep running her into.

Terquem |
I am feeling well enough to start getting back to updating games. It will be slow at first, maybe two or three games today, and then the rest will follow through the weekend.
I appreciate everyone’s patience.
I’ll start each game post with a review, to try and bring everyone back to where we were when we left off, and a prompt to getting us moving again.
I imagine it will take some time for everyone to realize the games are going to get moving again.
Again, thank you.

Tofutee |

No worries terquem, so long as we are in your mind.
Hallway reveal thine secrets!
dice pool: 3d20 ⇒ (18, 6, 8) = 32
*sigh* crap.
(18) Trick or a trap
(6) Trap of DL+3= CR (So, CR 8) Nasty
(8) Melee attack trap
Bah. apparently this dungeon really wants Tofutee to brush up on her trap finding skills.

Tofutee |

I as a player find being a wombat amusing. tofutee is complaining because actually being a wombat comes with problems.
I don't mind heading back to the pool and fixing the curse though. It just means I stop being a wombat, though the novelty of that will wear off sooner or later.
(Tofutee got cursed instead of polymorphed because the plant type is immune to polymorph effects for some strange reason)
I believe the altar in question would cost me something like 400GP to remove the curse.

Bud Wiser |

I'm all for the rule of cool. If you want to play a wombat for a while go for it. We'll just have to be creative in how we handle disabling the traps. Too bad we don't have a barbarian we can just throw at the traps.

Beast. |

Careful there Wiseguy! This "Bid Stupid Fighter" just might throw you at the trap if your not careful!
But I do have a creative way to go about this trap (since its pressure plates). We could blanket the area in inpact foam and then try to cross that. Impact foam is apparently extremely light as over 300 cubic feet of the stuff only weighs 1 pound (if I did my math correctly) and it would absorb our weight. what do you guys think?
Also, welcome back Terquem :) Always glad to see you ^-^

Bud Wiser |

I did say barbarian there my big hairy friend. :)
I don't know that the foam will work. Now a big bouncy rubber ball might. Let it bounce down the hall and set off all the traps, but I don't think we have one of those. Wonder if you could make one out of the foam.

Tofutee |

From my memory of the last mechanical trap in here they are actually manned by a union of Imps.
So I'm not sure if the old 'bag of rocks on the pressure plate' trick would actually work.
If we can trigger it that way then great.
As to the foam, I'd say that the foam would work significantly better if beast gets a chance to see some exposed machinery. Toss the pellet into an exposed armature or something and depending on how strong or complex of a device we have in front of us it might do something.
I'd guess that if we just tossed it on the floor before activating the trap the machine that opens the wall panels/arrow holes or what have you would displace the foam. Assuming we get it in the right spot.

Terquem |
I am wondering what to do with this game. Beast was so kind in agreeing to join us, but then almost immediately we lost another player character, leaving us with only 3. Now Tofutee being a wombat might be only temporary (and Bud being a really nice guy could turn out to be only temporary as well!) but in truth, both Tofutee and Bud are played by players who participate in other games I run, and asking them to keep participating here seems like a lot ask.
I don’t want to abandon Beast, he really adds a lot to this game. But, I’ve realized to my embarrassment that I have committed to too many games, and when I recently got sick the point was driven home hard. I want to keep providing good games for the players who were kind enough to take up my creations, but it really seems like this is one of the games I am running that may not need to go on.
And one last thing – the “good” player characters that this group of monsters are supposed to be chasing down, sort of got a little bored with the random dungeon generator tables, and asked to do something different for a while (with all the while maintaining that we would return to the random dungeon at some time, but it is looking like that might be a very long some time to wait.
I really want to leave this up to beast. If he is having a good time and wants to keep this going, we will, but if it is not giving him the bang for his buck he was expecting I’d like to end this game, and let trawets71 and Movin give more attention to the other games of mine they are in. If it will sweeten the deal, I am sure I can find a roll for any character Gobo Horde would like to play in one of my other games.
What are your thoughts?

Bud Wiser |

I enjoy all your games, even this one, but if you need shut some down, by all means do so. This has been a very fun game and I do enjoy all the strange plot twists. It's good to play a game that doesn't take itself so seriously, that's why I like the goblin game so much as well, though that may need to wind down as well as it's getting harder to push everyone along.
I am ok with whatever you decide but these are the two most fun games I play in and they will be missed.

Tofutee |

Sorry on the delay here. Life on my end has been piling problems on me. Which would be why I essentially vanished from PBP for the most part for a good chunk of that month.
As to what we should do with this game. I'm entirely fine with continuing and find Bud/Beast/Tofutee to be an amusing band of murder-hobos. I've never had the chance to play a murderous bacon-mold before and certainly never a former bacon mold wombat.
Perhaps I haven't been expressing that desire terribly well recently but I do intend to amend that soon.
However that is secondary to the other part, much as I find this game enjoyable I know that you put a lot of work in breathing life into those random table rolls Terquem. So it might make more sense to shelve this, much as I love my bacon-mold.
If we continue I think I'd want to have tofutee get her curse broken on that useful Altar in the grotto. That way she can be useful to the party again, amusing as being a wombat was lacking hands is kind of crippling for a trap finder.

Beast. |

Alright, well heres what it looks from my eyes :)
Ever since I had come back to this site a while back, I have managed to get into 2 games that stuck, this one (abet however slowly it went) and another one where I played as an Elan Psion (Midiotoziggeroto).
Recently my other game has gone on a hiatus as the GM seems to be having a few real life struggles, so its effectively pausing.
During this time (and essentially ever since I came to this site) I am constantly looking to get into one game or another, always looking to go beyond character creation but having little success (only 2 actually). Recently I have gotten quite de-motivated to continuously create new characters and the only draw has been from the 2 games that I have had work.
Now, one game has paused and this one is potentially winding down. I find myself in a position where I could easily set down all my obligations to Pathfinder and go on a break myself (possibly and probably until the new year) for a while, with the intent and hope that I could come back re-motivated and re-energized.
I think that letting this game die down would be fine, and would allow me to take a much desired break. I would hope that you would remember and consider me in the future when I come back, maybe I could get into one of your games then!
One of the things I want to say about this game is that despite its slow pace it has been a pleasantly deep game, I had fun playing out my character and interacting with my 2 friends while my 3rd friend wove a wonky RNG into a fun story. I have genuinely enjoyed this game and wanted to say thanks to the 3 of you for playing it with me.
TLDR
I am ok with the game closing up and would hope you do not feel that I am upset about it. I had a blast playing the game, and indeed this was 1 of my 2 favorite games. I have been wanting to take a Hiatus for a while, and this seems like a natural time to do so. I will be back, probably after the new year, and I would hope that you would consider me again then!
If you guys wish to keep playing this game, or wish to start it up again soon (maybe after the new year), I am all for it and would love to re-join you guys then!

Beast. |

Because Intent tends to get lost in long posts, heres the recap :)

Tofutee |

Hrmm.. fair enough. If everybody is game I'd be ok with a hiatus.
In game it makes a lot of sense as well, after all our quarry has left for a different part of the city and has legal right to be there.
Perhaps on returning above we find that out and the group of us disband for a time to do our own work for a while.

Beast. |

Hmmm. Ya heres an idea.
Does everyone want to do 2 more posts, the first one is us getting out of the dungeon, and the second one is us going our separate ways and a brief piece of where we ended up as we were in the city (such as construction labor for me or something).
That way it rests at a good spot and we can then come back to it in a more natural way (such as a recruitment drive, or something) at a later point.
What do you guys think?

Terquem |
Update on my return - I don't want to bore anyone with details, but here we go. I bought an HP Pavilion on Friday, returned that machine to Best Buy on Monday and picked up a Dell. I am almost done setting up the Dell, and lucky for me my portable Hard Drive has almost all of my old maps and tokens. I hope to post a brief game update to all my games today, and by this weekend I should be posting maps again.
Thanks for being patient with me.

Tofutee |

assuming I'm not forgetting something the party has found:
1600 gold pieces (The Bloodhawk gang *Wights*)
Misty's Anytool and wand of Inf healing *specifically left it for us*
Note to self Find and steal back Larg's muleback cords. those were useful.
12000gp from the cursed wombat room.
A rather fancy hat that Bud is now wearing (which I'm assuming we are going to keep.)
6000 gp in albums from the bacon loving alligator room
-400gp from breaking the Wombat curse.
From what I recall there is a 2% conversion fee to get coins that will work in the city above.
Leaving us with 18816gp
or 6272 GP each.

Tofutee |

Any objections to splitting the loot this way?
Secondly we have reached the surface so if you haven't already you ought to finish leveling up to 5th. (I still have a feat to pick as an example. Also have to figure out if Unchained rogue is worth the effort of transferring over to.)
Now that we have (finally) reached the surface do we still want to do a hiatus?

Beast. |

6272 gp each? Ok that sounds good to me.
I can level up to 5th and fiddle with my gear in a bit.
As for whether we continue or not, I am currently in zero games :(
That and the half dozen or so games that I have tried to get in have all failed...
I would be happy if we decided to continue, even if it is just more random rooms (I actually thought that was a good bit of fun ^-^) However...
I remember the main reason we were going to put this on hold was that Terquem wanted to free up some of his time and dedicate it elsewhere.
So the choice is his on what we do from now on.

Tofutee |

Well glad you are still with us then.
From what I can see up the thread Terquem was mostly wanting to be sure we are still all on board this game. Its had quite a lot of turn over after all.
I enjoy the random nature of this game and find it an amusing departure from the more serious story driven games that are common on PbP forums.
Plus where else am I going to get a chance to play a sentient mass of bacon flavored tofu? Much less in the company of a walking shag rug and worlds first animate beer pickled human.

Terquem |
I have this idea -
The Annual Its "A" Dungeon Mega Gear Recovery Contest
(it's just an idea, so think about it)
We keep going using the random tables, but I do up a Revision 7b, with different chances for things to be found in rooms and chambers.
The team of monsters is informed that the "Good Adventurers" who they had been tasked with finding have moved on to another dungeon, so that task is no longer required.
Instead the team decides to compete in the Mega Gear Recovery Contest, a once every year effort, co sponsored by Jeffrey's emporium that rewards a single winning team of adventurers for recovering the greatest amount of gear (both magical and non-magical)
It is a 24 hour effort (game time, so we set the clock, and keep track of time). Lighting is turned on in the Dungeon for this one day, and teams of adventurers scurry about looking for the remains of other adventurers to recover their gear, which keeps Jerry's well stocked. You do not get to keep the things you find, but instead share a prize of 50,000 gp (in Jeffry's vouchers).
What do you think?

Tofutee |

Heh. That sounds like fun.
Though I'll admit that is going to be a serious impairment on Bud.
Its going to be really hard to contribute as a caster once his spells are worn out.
Assuming our group hears about it while we are getting tasks done on the surface it might be wise to purchase stuff to extend our staying power.
@Bud While your character doesn't sleep you might consider a ring of sustenance anyway. It reduces the time you need to prep spells from 8 hours of "rest" to 2 hours.
And as we are technically bad guys (Glances to alignment) are there any limitations to our interactions with the other teams?
Hrmm.. I wonder if buds Alignment goes back to normal.
The name of the game is coming back with the most adventurer loot I'm wondering if looting the other teams (of adventurers) is a viable tactic in this.

Bud Wiser |

That sounds like one hell of a way to restock your store. Mark all of your stock. Sell it. Then go back and get it after the customer's are dead.
I'm in!
Now I know you guys are bad guys but I'm a good guy now and while I'm you're friend, I won't help you do evil things and will be upset if you do them.
As far as running for 24 hours, you're right, once my spells are gone I won't be of much use. Pearls of power would help and so would scrolls.
I do have the acid jet exploit which gives me something to do other than spells.

Tofutee |

Yeah that is one interesting way to recover lost loot. fortunately any gold we find will still be up for grabs.
Hrmm.. Are we going to have like... a compass or something that leads us in the direction of marked loot?
Or are they just releasing a horde of ill mannered adventurers in one direction and hoping that the strongest ones come back with more loot than was lost sending them all in?
...
Why am I even asking this question, its the second answer.
As to Buds magically encouraged change of heart (can a zombie even have one of those?) good thing I started taking ranks in bluff.
Sadly I still have a crap score due to my abysmal charisma.
It should make for some amusing comedy.
Assuming we stop the rest once in the dungeon somewhere the ring would give us another 5 hours of time to work with.
Tofutee doesn't sleep as a plant so she is the perfect lookout for you two meatsacks that need to refresh your brains.
I don't know if Terquem would be cool with it but I came across the Quarterstaff of Entwined Serpents looking at stuff that might help Tofutee (this one not so much.) However it could be very useful for Bud and he could retire the old crossbow.
Beyond that a brace of alchemical tools will likely help, tanglefoot bags, alchemist fire and ghast retch flasks can be quite useful.

Tofutee |

Im going to be terribly amused if the timing works out that bid has a sudden and drastic mental change in the middle of doing something sickeningly nice.
Like donating to orphans or singing uplifting show tunes.

Beast. |

I like the idea :)
Are you thinking something like us finding a mountain of extra loot then watching us cry a little when it all goes poof?
Also, I am a Fighter. I can go all day and the only thing resting does is restore hp (and we have wands for that).
BUT we could say for this day only that the ring of sustenance can be used any amount of times, then we have to decide how often we want to take 2 hour breaks to let our spell battery recharge :)
As for our strat, I am sure that reducing the competition and "liberating" them of their burdens is a noble and completely justifiable course of action. Besides, I am sure those heathens would attack and Murder us if given half the chance XD
If Bud donated to the orphans I am sure he could balance out the act by giving them beer, then maybe pickling them and selling them as "Half-sized Pints" for an extra few bucks, just for good measure XD

Terquem |
I'll be building a new version of the appendix "A" document, so give me a bit of time.
Loot (that is cash or valuables such as art, or clothing) recovered in the Dungeon will not be counted. Only Gear and Magic Items (note, that Magic items that are also Art as mentioned above, WILL count).
I'm not sure how to make this really feel like a competition, but I am thinking about that right now

Tofutee |

Hrmm...
Well as its a contest and adventurers get grabby around treasure perhaps each of the groups gets outfitted with an Imp babysitterhanger-on that provides color commentary?
I know that there was some stuff with rival groups trying to plunder the same ruin in Serpents Skull. I'll see if I can't trawl some information about that to give you ideas to mull over.

Bud Wiser |

Running into other treasure hunters would enhance the feel of competetion I think, especially if they let you know how much they have. Or a leader board that magically appears in each room. And definitely a ticking clock.
I like the imp idea but you need two for color commentary. They talk to each other and the audience but never the adventures except right after a big fight or at half time... I mean rest periods. "The Super Treasure Hunters Bowl". TM

Tofutee |

Demons and Devils have Telepathy. So the color commentary could be coming from a box elsewhere. The Imp in question would just be feeding the commentators information about our exploits so they could react to those choices.
Perhaps make it so each imp bears a scrying orb that the commentators are able to see the action from there. Each of those orbs are then viewed by a potent multi-eyed arcane legacy creature that might or not rhyme with Schmee-holder to project all that information into a gameboard that the folks at home can follow along with.
Lots of back room work to keep an eye on everything and figure out what the best cuts to make are, this could play into our side as each imp that follows the teams gets a personal cut if their group manages to win.
So the Imp could serve as leaderboard and devils advocate for the groups encouraging self endangering and impressive acts.
The commentators could flip back and fourth on various teams as that information came in and pick the choicest bits.
Hrmm.. that could add an additional aspect to this. Appealing to the crowd imparts some manner of bonus for those who do it well.
that would mean the entire city profits from this as certain teams of adventurers could return each year and get a devoted following by hamming it up for the pedestrians.
But then thats just fluff ideas.
Mechanics wise I'm still a bit stumped on how to make such an event flow smoothly.
Heck, just recouping their lost gear every year would be the smallest part of the gains in something like that.
