I know this is a great time for bad news, but unfortunately my computer went down last night. I’ll try to keep posting via mobile, but expect me to be sparse for a few days. Thankfully the local shop is still open, so hopefully I’ll get it back soon.

Iron = I did post Bessie would work on the carriage for the cannon when she had time - I realize that we have not actually had time!
Just a reminder to let me know when this task can be worked on and completed.

            Hey everybody,
I'm sorry for going missing on you. It's been a very hectic couple of weeks. At work we had two back to back short notice and short deadline extra projects added on top of our regular work. With what free time I've had I really needed to do other things than sit in front of a computer yet more.
Things should be getting back to normal now, and I'll be catching up on reading up to date on posts and posting myself. Within a day or two I should be all caught up and back in the flow.

You may attempt to acquire more crew at any port or settlement, or upon the successful capture of another ship, by making a DC 20 Bluff (to trick sailors on board), Diplomacy (to convince people to join the crew), or Intimidate (to press-gang new crew) check. Each such check takes 1 full day, and a successful check results in 1d4+2 new crew members for the PCs’ ship.
You must designate who is making the attempt.

I am fine with the roll being required; taking 20 requires time - technically taking 10 is possible when there is no distraction or danger; I have seen this debated and go both ways which is why I asked.

Captain giving encouragement where needed
Bleepos at the helm
full compliment of sailors for speed (20)
crew the ballistae 7 crew/1 officer Orslaw,
Nasifi and Bessie manning the cannon - assuming the cannon would be used sparingly, giving us a chance to case spells and hurl alchemical mixtures too.

I keep picturing Bleepos's antics at the wheel (thank you for the awesome descriptions and RP of a goblin!!)
Pirates of the Caribbean missed out by not having a goblin! And lets be honest; seeing a goblin steering the pirate ship coming after you... you know nothing good is going to happen.

Bleepos at the helm with David Bowie singing "Magic Dance" in the background.
You guys crack me up! If I ever play S&S in person, I will have to use Bleepos. Plus his avatar in Paizo is so very much appropriate! Only reason I don't buy a monkey is that I feel Bleepos would try to eat it.

I picture him with both hands and feet on the wheel and occasionally his teeth... hopping on and off and with all kinds of erratic antics that keep the ship on course... making the rest of us question whether it was luck or skill.

I think you guys are on point! I don't actually think he knows what he's doing as much as it seems like it (in terms of skill points). At least he isn't the cook or the ship will sure be catching fire as we speak!

@IronPerenti It looks like the Siege Engineer feat requires Knowledge(Engineering) 5 AND proficiency with one other siege engine before you can use it. Would you be willing to waive the Exotic Weapon Proficiency prerequisite?
Either way, I'll plan on gaining at least Proficiency with the Ballista at the next level up. That way Orslaw can take lead on that and we won't take the penalties. I have a hunch we'll be using it quite a bit.

I'd been planning on taking the siege engineer feat from back at the beginning of the game. Nasifi has plenty of skills points to work with so it shouldn't take her long at all to qualify.

Fantastic! Would you prefer to be the primary siege engine specialist or would it be good for us to both have it? Then we could each take lead on one and fire two without penalty.

I was figuring Nasifi would take the "Gunnery Officer" position since she isn't good for much else as an officer. She also might be able to parley her explosives focus into better ordinance down the road. For example, ballista bolts could already be fitted with alchemical charges by her.
That said, having more than one of us trained would be nice. Orslaw should have some feats to spare since he's a fighter, even if the skill point investment slows him down.

Sounds great. I've had him taking Knowledge(Engineering) already, so I was counting on hitting 5 ranks at the next level any way. So we should have some pretty outstanding ship combat before long!

Ready for some awesome boarding action as we take this ship! Any particular strategy y'all think we should use? Go after officers and hope the lesser seamen will surrender, maybe?

Nasifi should be within throwing range of the other ship's deck by the time we can board. She can throw at least one bomb ahead of the boarding action to clear an opening. After that she can possibly shift across to throw a couple more at the back of the defending crowd for some extra confusion and mayhem.
She probably helps more by waiting until the crews are mixed up with each other to board the enemy ship.

Hello there strangers! Mr Ironperenti was kind enough to welcome me back now that I have all my personal stuff sorted. You cannot believe how excited I was to see that this game was still ongoing and with most of the original crew!
I did some backlog skimming and will do some more in-depth reading when I can. I am stupendously happy to be back.

I've not had much time for posting in the last couple of weeks, and it's going to continue for a couple more before things calm down.
Not only are we getting hit with a second tsunami of applications this month now that enhanced UC benefits have ended, but we're also in the middle of transitioning to a new software platform that changes just about everything about how we work, from learning the software itself, to office procedures and workflows.
Almost all the regular eligibility workers are in training so the rest of us, who don't do eligibility but have some training, have been pulled in to cover for them. It's going swell.
Anyhoo, if I'm falling behind and slowing things down go ahead and bot me. I think we'll be back to normal around the 2nd week of September.

I hope we're taking the ship too, and re-flagging/painting it at the next port. It's worth quite a good buck, but yes - we might need to split the PCs temporarily or put a trust-able NPC leading on the other boat.
