I just want to brag to my PbPs... Abandoned Arts totally got a little mention on the Store Blog today. I'm on the font page of paizo.com, and I've only been at this in a professional capacity for a month and a half. And I've been featured in the Paizo newsletter at least three times recently, and three of my products occupied three (low-ish) spots on the "top 10 downloads from other companies" list last week. How cool is that?

I'm stoked. Hey; does anybody want a free PDF? Send me a PM and let me know which one you want, and I'll ask Liz to hook you up. If you can't hook up your gaming table with free stuff, what's the point of authoring for a third party production company, right?

PS: Oterisk... if you're still following this and still interested, peek in and say hi. I want to touch base with you now that Fireclaw is back, and make it clear that you're still very welcome to join (by group vote, not just GM mandate).

Male Pale Master

Hey right on Garden Tool! You guys have done some great work at Abandoned Arts and deserve the praise.

Youve already hooked me up with the PDF's so I wont ask for any more...at least until I knock out those reviews I still owe you. Which I havent forgotten about!

anyways, congrats again and looking forward to more material from you guys.

Dark Archive

Looking forward to it.

@ Everyone: I just got my Ultimate Equipment PDF. If anyone else is a subscriber with an early copy, that sourcebook is now legal at my table.

m Orc 8 Fighter / 2 Champion

Okay, 5700 miles and 12 states later, along with really sketchy internet access, I am back.

It seems we have changed locations since I have been gone, and we found your missing player, which is a good thing. If the consensus is that you still want to have me around, I will actually come up with a new character concept. The Druid was fun, but may not exactly be a good choice to fit in where you are. I think I can have something worked out in about a day or so if you guys are still willing to let me aboard your pirate crew.

Dark Archive

Survey says yes. You'll come in with exactly as much xp as everyone else, by the way. Otherwise, the character creation guidelines are spelled out in the discussion thread.

The only difference between that text and the current stat of things is that the Advanced Races Guide and Ultimate Equipment are now legal.

Dark Archive

Quick heads-up: I am going to be out of commission today.

Slim did his best in Sargava as a common laborer before he was ironically pressganged into piracy by a free captain. He hated his time at sea and received several beatings for his insolence, but eventually found something he really enjoyed: knife fighting. He practiced constantly and showed great promise before he said something stupid when the captain was listening, and he was given heavy boots and long swim. Whether due to his indomitable nature, his will bent on revenge or that he ended up in some unholy underwater temple that bound his soul to his dead body, few could say for sure. But those few months later with all the flesh stripped from his bones, he easily slipped out of his boots and made for shore.

He went to an old friend who had joined a monastery near Sargava to get some help, and eventually found the Chelaxian Doctor’s outfit to keep his status as undead from prying eyes. Knowing it would likely be a long time before the free captain came back into port, he waited, practicing his skills with the blade and plotting revenge.

(Well, this has been fun to make. To me it seems that a Skeletal Champion template is a little too good, but if I ever hit 0 HP, I’m dead and gone forever, so it still seems a bit risky to me. You can find the Skeletal Champion Template under the Skeletal Champion entry in Beastiary 1. If you decide you don’t like this guy, I can always make another or use the Druid. I'm intending to eventually make a duelist out of the guy, and I will buy his stuff depending on approval.)

m Orc 8 Fighter / 2 Champion

Here's a picture

Dark Archive

The template is fine - you take on a lot of vulnerabilities as an undead (of which being dead-and-gone-forever if you ever so much as touch a 0 hp total is only one).

@ Everyone: Bear with me, everyone. Shi... stuff is about to go down, and I am preparing a map. Oterisk, nice tie-in with the monastery. If you get a final stat block up, I'll get you included in the aforementioned going-down-of-stuff before we get started.

Male HP:9/17, AC15/To11/FF14, F4/R2/W9 Half-elf (Half Garundi) Diviner 2/Cleric of Nethys 1

Also, keep in mind that I will NOT be able to heal you, meaning you won't have emergency healing at your disposal either. A couple ranks of UMD and a wand of inflict would should be top priority for you IMO.

Also, if you intend to keep your undead status a secret... I may accidently cure you. Watch out for that.

Very cool Slim Shady, Oterisk!

m Orc 8 Fighter / 2 Champion

GT- I will be finishing the statblock soon, and will create an alias for him as soon as I can as well.

Jelani- I am aware of that, as you might see that I took the Dangerously Curious Trait to get a bonus to that very thing. Although I was under the impression that you could still prepare inflict spells, being Neutral, although you couldn't spontaneously cast them.

Syndir- Thanks!

Male HP:9/17, AC15/To11/FF14, F4/R2/W9 Half-elf (Half Garundi) Diviner 2/Cleric of Nethys 1

Yes that is true, but my cleric spells slots are going to be limited for a little while yet. Jelani wouldn't stoop to actually touching his enemy.

Also, just a side note. Good clerics can also prepare inflict spells (as inflict spells lack the evil descriptor), unless there is something I'm missing.

Human

Fair enough. :)

Here is my Alias with a google docs link for those who want to see the statblock. I can run it differently or present it differently if you want GT. I think I have everything I need to start, as my character doesn't require all that much.

I'm looking forward to a fun ride.

Dark Archive

Having trouble with the GoogleDocs link? Can you post your stat block, Schrim?

Male HP:9/17, AC15/To11/FF14, F4/R2/W9 Half-elf (Half Garundi) Diviner 2/Cleric of Nethys 1

Was the googledocs thing directed at us? Cause I think we missed that post.

Your buckler should really be masterwork unless you want to suffer its ACP on your dagger attacks.

Weapon Finesse wrote:

Weapon Finesse (Combat)

You are trained in using your agility in melee combat, as opposed to brute strength.

Benefit: With a light weapon, rapier, whip, or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalty applies to your attack rolls.

Human

Ah, good catch. I could also get it made out of darkwood, which would help that as well, and be cheaper. I will go and make that change...

Edit: I just made it masterwork instead. I think special materials assume masterwork quality anyway.

Dark Archive

Looks good. Back in the swing of things now that the holiday is over; will be getting around to putting up a map later today.

Is Schrim assumed to be using his hat of disguise? If so, is the disguise meant primarily to add to the masking and inscrutable nature of the plague doctor suit, or do you want to emulate the appearance of a specific race or person?

Male HP:9/17, AC15/To11/FF14, F4/R2/W9 Half-elf (Half Garundi) Diviner 2/Cleric of Nethys 1

Hm, board is bugging out on me. Can't see the main thread on my focus list. Can you post in here when we have an update?

HP: | AC: | T: | FF: | CMD: | F: | R: | W: | Perc: | SM: | Init:

great news Garden Tool!

Dark Archive

Okay, you should see a GoogleDocs link at the top of every page in this campaign, now. You'll ave to click on the appropriate tab at the bottom of the screen that it links you to. The one that says "Shelyn Monastery."

As soon as I get an answer back from Schrim I'll get him "introduced" and proceed with the scene.

Schrim, see the question, above.

m Orc 8 Fighter / 2 Champion

Yes, that is exactly what I had planned. It would be tough in social situations if I just walked around as a skeleton. I want for all intents and purposes to appear as a plague doctor, just out of place.

Dark Archive

Quick update: in court today! Witness summons. Bear with me.

Male Pale Master

interesting. guilty or not guilty?

Dark Archive

He's pleading guilty, it's just a matter of how much time he'll do.

Schrim & Seamus: Now that it's relevant to two PC backstories, I've done a little development of one of our unnamed background NPCs. The Free Captain that Seamus is on the run from (the same that "sank" Schrim) goes by the name of Captain Rumgold. When Seamus resided in the Shackles, Rumgold was an up-and-coming contender for the next year's Free Captain's Regatta. Rumgold was one of the few Free Captains to command a small fleet (three ships). Wealthy, lucky, and personable - Rumgold was becoming something of a power player in the Shackles region. When his wife was murdered, Rumgold began to live up to his name. Now Rumgold is a ruined man with but one ship to his name. Depression and crippling alcoholism have curtailed his career, and the man has become mean. Now terribly unreliable and bereft of his former popularity, Rumgold runs a racket "escorting" merchant vessels to and from Cuttle, on Mediogalti Island.

Schrim: Your friend at the monastery is a former pirate. He became fascinated by some magical trinket plundered from a merchant vessel. The item may have been cursed, because the appeal of treasure was lost to him after the trinket was looted - nothing compared to the bauble. He wrapped up his affairs and paid his debts - then he gave his life to Shelyn. He's not a bad fellow... just a little touched in the head.

At least - he was. You suspect that he's dead, now. You've just arrived at the monastery an hour ago... and you decided to hide when you heard the party approaching.

Sorry I'm kicking everyone's asses with two low-level undead. : P

I am sorry I am such a hot-head and just HAD to rush into the building to axe that bastard that dropped a statue on me a few questions. Actually Farid is really not sorry. This character is far and away removed from how I normally play using ordered tactics and reason, I am quite enjoying him!

Man we've gone from multiple postings a day to once a week. We got to step it back up fellas.

Male HP:9/17, AC15/To11/FF14, F4/R2/W9 Half-elf (Half Garundi) Diviner 2/Cleric of Nethys 1

GT can only post once a day, that sets us back during combat, though we should try to follow initiative order better. We don't need to wait to be told it's our turn :).

Male Human Gunslinger (Mysterious Stranger) 3

Yeah sorry bout that last delay on my part. Weekend posting isn't really easy for me. Trying to keep things moving though.

Dark Archive

No worries, Seamus. I don't post on weekends at all.

And, yeah, since Abandoned Arts started up and took off, I'm down to about once a day - which is fine as long as we can all contribute roughly that often). For what it's worth, the time and energy I've put toward Abandoned Arts has been more than worth it. In only three months (with a tiny ~100-sale bump from my very recent setup on DriveThrRPG) we've netted over 1,000 sales. We have a fan-base measured in the (low?) three digits, I've got an article going up on Roleplayer's Chronicle, we've been really well reviewed on Know Direction (and our products get great reviews here, too), we seem to appear on the "top downloads from other companies" portion of the Paizo newsletter just about every week, and we have permanent links to our class-related products right there on the main class pages of the d20pfsrd. All that by 90 days in business.

[/bragging rant]

Awesome Garden Tool.

I just started a Publishing Company a few weeks ago with some friends. Once our website is ready I will post it so you can check it out. We are doing Children's books right now.

Glad to hear the great news about Abondoned Arts, Garden Tool and I certainly dont begrudge you the time on that. Lots of good stuff there and the price just cant be beat. Once a day is perfect. Too many pbp's fall by the way side when it becomes once a week or so and I dont want to see the game end. Its one of my favorites ^_^

Thanks, everyone.

Any particular theme or "genre" of kid's books?

A series teaching children how to defeat monsters, the first book is about how to defeat Zombies. Once my tech partner has the site up I will post the link, the artist did a great job.

When I get a chance to breathe Garden Tool I will have to download some of your work, from what I have seen in reviews it is good stuff!

That sounds awesome! I want to read it.

You know, several fantasy-genre authors sell their works through Paizo. Since your children's books are related to the genre, you should consider setting up a webstore here.

Just realized that there were three enemies on the map all of a sudden. It's still two for now; I've corrected the map.

Popping in to let everyone know that today is the girlfriend's birthday, and I've got the day off: no posting for me. Not much of a loss since the forums are scheduled for some downtime. See you tomorrow, folks.
