Inspired by visions of John Carpenter's the Thing, Akira Kurosawa's Dreams and his masterpiece Ran. And maybe a little of Throne of Blood and some good ol' fashioned Toshiro Mifune neck scratchin'. Now with Ninjas and Vikings and Bears, oh my!

Kidney stone, eh? I can attest to the fun of those. Had one that I needed to have surgically removed. The pain was downright mind-boggling.
Hope you feel better :)

Wow that sounds very not fun. I got super lucky and did the majority of my work when asleep and woke up for the firework finale. I passed it very very quickly and I thank my lucky stars I did.
Female Human Housewife/1
All I can think of is that scene in Deadwood.
I'm fairly certain medicine has progressed beyond the point of "hey, we got all this whiskey at our disposal and this metal pipe that we figure might go up there..."
Here's hoping your lady is treating you like a champ.
Hey Devon,
Sorry for what you went through. Hope the hospital took care of you well and that you're on the mend. :)
Seiji can be a little rude. I am sorry for his manners. :)
I'm sorry to hear about your kidney stone troubles, Devon, but glad to hear that you are feeling better. My brother-in-law went through that recently, and it sounded really terrible.

Whoa... whoa...
Um... did our lawful paladin just do something as chaotic as flip a coin to determine which way?
...whoa...
{HP36/36 | AC16 T10 FF16 CMD17 | F/R/W 9/4/7 | Inish +0, Per +0}
Hey now, flipping a coin isn't completely chaotic. Chaotic would be making the decision to flip the coin, then taking a third choice.
Female Human Housewife/1
Gonna let Joyabraund weigh in on things before I continue, if ya'll don't mind too much.
Female Human Housewife/1
Okie guys, for the six skeletons, and the skeletal champion, you earn 410 xp, pushing you over the magical number 2000 to obtain level 2!!
'Course, bonuses and such will apply after you have rested, which might not be for a while, considering Joyabraund's fear of HUUUUGE spiders :P
Female Human Housewife/1
Hey guys. Thinking of implementing a new house rule in favor of your resident smith, and any of you folk this would benefit, really.
Craft checks and Perception checks can be WIS or INT, provided it is justified by the character.
Reason based on Mike the Handyman on the Discovery Show The Colony. Guy didn't have a PhD like some of the folks on that show, but his reasoning was sound, and he had learned the basics of machines and such through just plain working with them all his life. Seems ridiculous to me that your resident smith, who is an armorer and has been for decades would not be better at being a smith through straight dwarven tenacity and experience with the forge even if he doesn't have above average intelligence.
If this is game breaking for ya'll, let me know.
Male Dwarf Cleric of Torag 2
Perception? I can see Profession. A lot of the more scholarly professions should logically benefit more from book learning than savvy. And a lot of crafts are more about patience and "feeling" the materials than know-how.
Cross synergy is a good thing in my book. Some skills should have the option to be based off multiple stats. Like Perform (Dance) should be allowed to go off Dex as well (some might argue 'instead of') as Cha.
I am for it, not just because it is good for my character, but because craft/profession skills are considered widely useless, and ranked as "fluff" skills and cannot be used to "break the game".
Female Human Housewife/1
Ah yeah, I misheard profession when I was discussing it verbally. Silly GM.
So, Craft/Profession does the switcheroo for WIS/INT if you would like, to improve your scores in something that is rarely mechanically important.

Okay. With HP, ya'll, you can roll. Re-roll ones, and if you get less than half, I'll roll for you and hope to get better than half.
Male Human Ranger 2 (Guide)
Nicely done! I'll gladly take that 9. :)

I'll try to get leveled up soon. Work is kicking my butt right now, trying to post as able.

waitin' for Treygan to get a chance to post before we move ahead. Do you guys know if you want to go back tonight or camp out here?
Updated my skills, BAB, HP, Picked up Versatile Performance for Performance [Oratory] and picked up Saving Final as my next spell. (WHich seems like an AWESOME support spell for a group like ours.)

Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2
You guys might remember at the start of the game, I was indecisive about which archetype to take. Having played Seiji for a while now, and having thought about how I wanted to build the character, I think I will actually go with the baseline alchemist.
Though I originally thought he would be adverse to using poisons, I've since decided that it's not so simple for him. Ever a naturalist, I think Seiji realizes that poison is a part of many a creature's natural defense. He's not like to sprinkle powder in anybody's wine glass, but I think he might keep a supply of poison on hand for his crossbow bolts.
Moreover, as anti-ninja as he is, I think it might be more intriguing for him to adopt some of the tactics of his enemy. He has a strong sense of honor, but he also resents how his father's strict code shaped his early life. There is like to be an internal struggle once he gets his hands on poison, and I don't want to miss the roleplaying opportunity.
In any case, though his bombs will prove useful, I think Seiji will also be using his crossbow very frequently, and his bolts should prove an excellent vehicle for poison.
I will take the Infusion discover at level 4, and will happily hand out extracts then.
Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2
Sheet is updated now.
Saving Finale is great! It's one of those 1st-level spells that never ceases being useful.

Joyabraund Northropple wrote: Saving Final as my next spell. (WHich seems like an AWESOME support spell for a group like ours.) Also known as "ALL OF MY LV1 SLOTS!" for my current bard character. The only other spell I cast with any frequency is Feather Step, because the GM looooooooves his difficult terrain. (So much I took to calling his version of Serpent Skull "Difficult Terrain" as I kept forgetting the actual name of the AP).

Apologies, folks. My organic bits have been failing me this weekend. A pervasive funk has fallen upon me and I dunno when I will be shaking the feeling and getting my head back completely.
Will get you guys up and moving when that does happen, though.
Male Human Desk Monkey 2/ Logistics Guru 3/ Over-educated 2/Gamer 6
FYI, sorry for the delay. Wife got sick then so did I, food poisoning or something. Will update soon.
Female Human Housewife/1
No problemo, PirateDevon.
Just so ya'll know, checking out the last point is not going to take over long, and after, assuming no randumbs on the way back, we can fast forward to Sandpoint.
Of course, assuming no randumbs :P
Male Human (Tian-Min) Alchemist 2
Sorry to hear that, PirateDevon. You have had more than your fair share of ills lately. Feel better soon!

Yeah I'm a troupe magnet buti mend fast.
Female Human Housewife/1
this encounter was meant for Tabletop. it's full of superfluous checks and asks for stuff that goes by rounds, which, to me, is impossible to track in PbP, so let me know where ya'll would like to go, and I'll let ya'll know what ya find, and what happens.
Female Human Housewife/1
killin' gobbos at the table. at least, that's the plan.
will update when I get home, or possibly tomorrow.
Female Human Housewife/1
Yay! NPC time.
Hope Valcrim and Joyabraund don't feel cheated by the less lengthy of the descriptions, but figured it was time for Joyabraund to bard it up and make his influence on his world known.
Female Human Housewife/1
Going to be absent from the 5th til the 9th of August. Husband and I are going to a cabin by the sea and will not be bringing the internet with us. Lots of card games, sun bathing and generally just chillin' to be done.
Male Human Desk Monkey 2/ Logistics Guru 3/ Over-educated 2/Gamer 6
MHhmmm time travel! What a treat! Fun for the whole family ;P
Have a good break!
That sounds lovely! Got room for a stowaway in your suitcases! :) (Though that would probaly defeat the purpose of a romantic getaway.)
If the weather stays nice, maybe I'll try heading out to the beach with my son as well. (the 2 hour drive each way with a 4 year old in tow is a bit of a deterrent though...) :P

Ultimately I'm fine with whatever decision is made regarding exotic weapons. I'm not certain about calling a Katana = longsword (mostly due to balance), but Wakizashi as exotic does rub me the wrong way abit. Katana=Bastard Sword and Wakizashi=Shortsword seems more fitting in my opinion. But hey, that's just me ;p
Male Human Desk Monkey 2/ Logistics Guru 3/ Over-educated 2/Gamer 6
Yah I have read some systems that further skew the weapons into general types and leave the specifics to solely narrative fluff which, in my quest for system simplicity really jives with me.
I mostly agree with the opinions listed above. I don't know about making it TOO easy to acquire exotic weapon proficiency, so I'm okay with either playing by the official rules or going with Treygan's suggestions.
Male Humanoid (Scandinavian Human) GM5/Ranger1/Expert3
I am fervently against the whole notion of EWP being so ridiculously stifling. Personally, I think there should be one feat to get ALL exotic weapons, with requirement that you are proficient in all martial weapons, because weapon training as a warrior familiarizes you with most any given concept of weapon physics, and the idea that a fighter gets the same -4 as a farmer who knows how to use a singular simple weapon is downright silly.
That, and the fact that there is maybe one or two weapons actually worth a feat to take.
Exotic Weapon Familiarity
Requirements: Proficiency with all martial weapons. Base Attack Bonus +1
Effect: This feat allows you to treat all exotic weapons as martial weapons.
Hmm... something to bring up as a house rule for my next session in the game I GM.
Female Human Housewife/1
Sorry for being away so long guys. Trip to cabin got prolonged, which was good, since husband is now familiar with Breaking Bad and he got to recover from his surgery without my sterling mother in law nagging every waking moment.
And seems the troll-nets issue is cleared up for now. So I'll get this thing moving again soon.
The campaign's been pretty quiet lately. Is everyone doing okay? I just posted in the hopes of getting things moving again... :)

Around, but been sickly of late. Had a bit of surgery done, and they kinda messed up, leaving me prone to infection and fevers. Ironic, considering my character is a Fort-save monster :P
I'm sorry to hear that, Valcrim! I wish you a speedy recovery!
Hey Valcrim, sorry to hear about the problems with the surgery. After your wife's last comments, I had hoped you were doing well and moving towards a full recovery.
Get well soon,friend. :)
